The Final Trial
Castiel was sitting in the hospital when his phone began buzzing in his pocket. He had offered to stay with Gabriel while Sam got some lunch for the three of them. It's been a week since Gabiel's accident and the doctors were still searching for the pressure that had caused his blindness.
Castiel fished his phone out of his pocket, freezing when he said the distorted voice's number. With shaky fingers, he pressed the talk button and held it up to his ear, remaining completely silent.
"Come to the pier at Trident Beach. You have two hours." The distorted voice said before the line clicked dead. Castiel put away his phone, taking a deep breath to keep calm.
"Who was that?" Castiel heard Gabriel say and looked up to find his younger brother's open, blankly staring at nothing. Castiel scooted his seat closer, pushing some hair out of Gabriel's face.
"Just a stupid survey" Castiel replied, despite his brother no longer seeing him. "How are you feeling?"
"I feel fine." Gabriel said, taking a shuddering breath before reaching out. Castiel grabbed his hand, letting his younger brother squeeze his fingers for comfort.
"But I just want to see." Gabriel said, his voice cracking as if his throat was closing. "I don't want to never see Sam's or Lucifer's face. I want to be able to see Carrie and Jake grow up. I want to work. I don't want to give up my life."
Castiel could see the tears slowly making tracks down the sides of Gabriel's face and sighed, leaning over and wiping the tears away. "Just because you're blind doesn't mean we'll love you any less. Do not worry, Gabriel, Sam and Lucifer will help you." Castiel comforted his brother, glancing at the time on his phone.
The sound of the door opening behind them caught their attention, and Castiel turned, seeing Sam there with a bag of food in his hand. Castiel let out a small breath of relief, standing and making his way over to Sam with a small smile.
"Hey, I have to get going. I'll check back with you in a little bit." Castiel said, giving Sam a one-armed hug.
"Oh, okay. I'll see you later then." Sam said, furrowing his eyebrows in confusion as he hugged back. Castiel didn't have time to explain and left hurriedly.
Once he reached his car, he got in and started the engine and backed out of the hospital parking lot, driving at the speed limit the entire time to the pier. He got there with ten minutes to spare. On the pier stood two men, both of them wearing hoods.
One of them turned towards the Novak, only an angular nose and thin lips visible under the shadow of the cloth. Castiel tensed, his hand twitching towards the gun he kept under his trenchcoat.
"I thank you for joining us for your final trial. If you would follow me." The man said, and Castiel recognized the distorted voice from the phone. He kept his hand close to his gun, but he straightened his stance, his eyes wary.
"What do you need me to do?" Castiel asked, his distrust clear in his voice. The man's lips twitched into a devilish smile and motioned to the man standing to his right.
"This is our other potential member. Your task is simple really." The man said as the other hooded man turned around, his jaw sharp and clenched tightly. "A fight to the death right here, right now. Go."
Castiel had only moments to let the words sink in before his hand shot to his gun, jerking towards the right and out of the open. He heard a gunshot, and took aim, followed by the hooded man slumping to the ground. Castiel couldn't help but sigh in relief.
The owner of the distorted voicce let out a whistle, kicking the body to make sure it was dead before pushing the corpse off the pier and into the water. "That was one of the fastst deaths I've ever witnessed. You sure have talent kid"
Castiel lowered the gun, not replying as he waited for the man to continue. "I have one more task for you in a later time, but for now, leave and wait for my call. The Angels have high expectation for you."
With that, the man walked off nonchalantly. Castiel watched him go with a glare, having half a mind to shoot him as he was walking away, but he decided against it. His revenge couldn't be finished without the man.
For now, he took the man's advice and left the pier before anyone came by and found a dead body.
