Training
"The goal is to extract, not destroy." She spoke. Pacing in front of us with hands behind her back. Dressed in all white as her heels clicked on the floor. Haya's blonde curly hair pulled back into a messy bun, her eyes sharp and deadly. "We will not destroy tooth." She stopped, standing before us as she looked at each and every one of us in the eye. "No matter how much shit she's done to you, you must remember she is not in control. It's up to you four to save her and to save the world."
She then turned and rose her hand to the air before her. A light of gold formed into Tooth's figure as it hung in the air. Her other hand went up as it added pieces of darkness that moved rapidly in the golden form that represented tooth.
"Elsa and Jack will keep Tooth's soul in place while Saraphine and Pitch will take the darkness and cage it." She turned to us again. Her hands fists at her side. "You. Must. Be. Careful." She said stern. Making sure we hear each and every word. "You take out her soul the darkness will completely over take her body. It's much harder to put back a soul then taking one out. Especially if the vessel is taken by darkness. You will use one hand and one hand only, anymore and you will obliterate her. This is a very delicate procedure, but it also takes all your energy to do so. You can't waste an ounce of your power, you can't mess up, you can't falter. You must get that darkness out. Now... show me what you can do." Haya then stepped aside. Her arms folded behind her back as we stood in a straight line. My eyes met Saraphine's and she nodded at me, she was the first to begin. She held out her hand in front of her, her forearm parallel to the black and dusty floor. She flicked her wrist slowly, making her hand twist before her palm faced the sky. A strong purple fire residing in her hand. Pitch then did the same, copying Saraphine as an orb of dark smoke and embers hovered above his palm. I then looked into Jack's eyes as he looked into mine. We took a deep breath and then looked down at our extended arms. We flicked our wrist, a blue orb of light and dancing snowflakes floating in my hand. Jack's orb was almost the same as mine except his had shards of ice hovering in his blue light. It was at that moment we pointed our hands at the flying figure of Tooth. Rays of light escaped our hands and hit the figure at once. Causing a massive explosion as we all fell back on our bums. We covered our eyes from the blinding light, looking at one another once it disappeared.
"Ahem," Haya spoke as she cleared her throat. Standing before us, her posture poised and demanding. We picked our heads up to look at her. Not knowing what she was going to say, or worst... what she was thinking. She kept her face emotionless, all shadow of pride or disappointment not being able to be seen. And in a voice as thin as a piece of paper she said...
"Again."
We dusted ourselves off and tried again. Taking our places as we rose our hands once more. Another explosion sending us back to the ground.
"Again!" She yelled this time.
We tried again and again. Each time falling to our knees. We didn't use our powers all in the same time, shifting the balance. We all hit the same spot, causing a massive explosion.
"Again!"
We tried different places. Different ways to stand to get this right. We tried going from above, underneath, surrounding her. No matter what we tried it didn't work.
"Again!"
There were times when we got it right, but couldn't pull apart the two from each other. Whenever Pitch and Saraphine tried to extract the darkness they would either rip it in two... or... rip tooth in half. Or they wouldn't do it in the same time, causing a whole new problem all together. It was our 50th time trying...and it was our 40th time on the floor. Our bodies were coated in sweat, our lungs about to give way from all of our heavy breathing. We... were exhausted. All of our energy had been taken away, our bodies trembling as they were about to collapse. I looked up at the figure of Tooth. Staring at it long and hard. feeling the last bit of my energy, I groaned as I moved to stand. Every muscle in my body was begging me to stay down, to quite. No matter how much they begged I kept moving, we have to safe the world... even if it kills us.
My knees wobbled once I straightened up. Seeing the others standing up right beside me, but they tumbled, unable to go on. I growled, pointing my hand to the thing that we hated most right now. Ready to try one last time, but... before I could... I felt a dainty hand between my shoulder blades. The other unknown hand grabbing my wrist as they brought it back down at my side. A moment of relief washing over me.
"That's enough Elsa," Haya whispered soft and caring into my ear. Taking a step back as she allowed me to fall back into Jack's arms. His chest feeling like the best goddamn pillow in the whole world.
"We'll stop here today. You all need your rest, I'm putting you all on strict bed call until morning." She was stern again. Her hands behind her back as she walked between me and Saraphine to stand before us. Her heels clicking on the floor.
"But Haya we-"
"We've done enough for today," She ordered, cutting Saraphine off mid-sentence. "You have done enough for today. Now go." And with that command she snapped her fingers. Sending us to our temporary rooms, staring at the four walls. Our backs on our beds while our feet dangled off of
It.
"That was painful." Jack huffed, exhausted as he got to his feet. Taking off his shirt as he headed towards the bathroom. Stretching as I heard is groans in the distance. My eyes not daring to look away from the giant snowflake on the ceiling. My back still on the soft bed.
"What if we can't do it."
"Elsa, we are going to save World. No matter what happens we-"
"No, I mean... what if we can't do it because of me?"
There was a long pause. The air still and almost thin.
"What do you mean?" He uttered, his voice coming from the bathroom.
"I'm not an official guardian Jack, what if I ruin the whole balance of it. Maybe I'm not the 4th-"
"You are a guardian Elsa, you're the strongest person I know. Just... just don't worry about it...okay?"
His voice was scared. Afraid and I understood why. If I had to become a guardian... that would mean I would have to die and there's a possibility I might not come back.
"Okay," I said almost in a whisper. Hearing him exhale with relief before the sound of rushing water hammered from the bathroom.
"I'm going to get in the shower and after we can cuddle. How does that sound?" You could hear the smile in his voice. The uneasiness like a wall as he tried to break it with a deal of cuddling. He was trying to make me happy, what I needed was to be comforted. Instead of pressing the matter, I backed off and smiled.
"I would love that."
"Yay!" He said cutely. Making me chuckle before I heard the glass door of the shower opening. The rushing water being muffled from hitting the floor. It was at that moment I knew that Jack was in the shower. The moment when I decided I needed some answers. I changed into more comfortable clothes and walked out the door. Making my way to the garden.
❄️
The garden wasn't just a garden, it was a place where magic was born and the place where magic comes to die. It's ruins of the old and the trees of the new. The center of the garden was this huge oak tree, the leaves a silvery gold, almost like bronze. It's branches reaches pass the massive dome that encase the garden. Giant chunks of stone and rubble dare not to go near it. Walls that still stand from fallen buildings protect it. It's peaceful here, the only noise you hear is the chirping of birds and their fluttering wings. The wind scented with iris and lavender as it touches your skin. Only there for a second before it's gone. Here is where I will find my answers for she... is here.
"Beautiful isn't it." She whispered. Her voice enchanting and yet dark at the same time.
"Haya," I spoke softly. Looking at her as she stood beside me, her eyes still on the tree. "Haya... I have some qu-"
"You think that you not being a guardian might effect the ability of you saving the world?" Her voice was blunt and nonchalant. My eyes nearly coming out of my sockets.
"How did you..."
"The tree told me." She replied smirking. Giving me a smug look like a know-it-all child would give to an older sibling. As if the tree talking to her was natural.
"ARE YOU THE LORAX!?!? DO YOU SPEAK FOR THE TREES?!??!?!"
She looked at me as if I was losing my mind. She shook her head and laughed, "That... is a story for another day."
"But-"
"Do you want me to answer your question?" She was formal again. Her kid side fading away as she become responsible and stern.
"Yes."
"Than follow me." I did what I was told. Trailing behind her as she had tucked her hands behind her back. Walking like a sergeant or general.
The farther we walked from the tree, the more rubble and ruin I saw. Stones and boulders became more frequent before walls pierced through the green. Pictures of prophecy and ancient writing carved into the grey stone. Running my hand along the walls as I felt every carving, making sure I kept in step with Haya.
"What...what happened here?"
She stopped suddenly, making me almost run into her. She took a long hard look at the wall before she looked at me. Her eyes were blank, remorse and pain hiding behind her facade.
"That," her voice dropped a pitch, stern and afraid. "That is also another story for another day." She said quickly before she whipped back around and walked off. I was confused by Haya's sudden change in behavior, but it told me that what ever happened here... was not a good experience for her. In fact... it could be the whole reason why we're in this mess. Why things are the way they are. I took a peek at Haya as she was far in the distance. Looking back at the wall one more time before I sighed. Letting my hand fall as I finally walked away.
We soon came upon a building that was shaped like a circle. Except it's whole right side had fallen, making it more like a crescent moon. The roof less than half a dome. Vibrant blue, green, and purple lights shined from inside the building. The lights along with the crystal moon in the middle of the room gave it a eerie feeling. As if this was the place where destiny killed chances and coincidence. We stood at the mouth of the building. A cold chill
running up my spine as my breath became fog. I didn't like this place... nothing made me cold, nothing. But this place... this place did. I looked at Haya and it was if her body was glowing! My arms clenched my body tight as I trembled, my teeth chattering as I looked at Haya. Haya looking at herself before she looked at me.
"This place... amplifies your powers. That's why you're shivering and that's why I'm glowing. It's making our powers go out of control. We must proceed with caution, do you understand?"
"Y-Y-Y-Y-yes." I finally said through chattering teeth. Getting a reassuring nod from Haya before we walked on. My eyes scanning every inch of my surroundings. Holding myself tight as it was hard to walk, every fiber of my body getting colder and colder the farther we went.
"Elsa! Over here!"
I hurried to Haya's side, walking up to a wall. Watching her stare at it.
"Look." She spoke monotone. Her finger touching a figure made out of hard geometric shapes. The figure she was touching wore a blue dress and had a platinum blonde braid. Ice crystal shooting from her hands as she pointed them to a figure that almost looked like tooth. Three figures stood beneath the girl in the sky. Two males and one female, the three figures looked like Jack, Pitch, and Saraphine. Their figures shooting at the girl in the sky that in my mind... represented me. Except... the girl in the sky's eyes... glowed pure white.
"That's-"
"You." Haya said, cutting me off before her finger slid down to the three figures. Her eyes looking upon them with admiration and trust. "These...are the other three."
An unbelievably rage overcame me. My voice turning ice cold. "You... you know this whole time that we were doing it wrong. You know and you didn't tell us! Why? Why didn't you tell us?!" I interrogated her. My hands fist at my sides as the cold soon became red hot. I could see her tense instantly, her eyes shooting me a very disapproving look.
"Do you not understand what you see here!?" Her hands jumped to my shoulders. Holding them tight as she shook me slightly. Her eyes like a raging bull. "In order for this to work they have to shoot all their power into you! Then you must absorb all that energy and blast it on Tooth. Do you know what that can do to you!? You can go nuclear! Or worst, you could die! That's why I wanted to try the way that we were doing before. That way no one can get hurt!"
"How do you know I will die if we do it this way?! What if this makes it easier for us!"
"Read the description at the bottom of the picture." She advised sternly.
"What descrip...tion." My eyes fell on words. Words that were in English and not in that ancient language that the rest of walls shared.
"One must fall...so the rest of the world can rise."
