Sacrifice

The sound of feet against snow erupted through the silent forest. Not a animal in sight, not even the chirp of a bird. It was like the forest knew; it always seem to knew. The trees were kissed with the white cold fluff as we walked side by side. An angel, a nightmare, and two entities of snow: you couldn't ask for a more unlikely bunch of heroes.

We heard the snap of a branch and stiffened with caution. Our breaths stifled as very little mist came from our lips. The four of us posed and ready in case of an attack. I threw my hands down to my sides: two luminous orbs of ice and snow forming in my hands. My eyes quickly adverting from east to west to ground to sky to around and upside down. We were ready, but fear had made us cautious. We heard another snap and our heads whipped to the sound. Focusing in the direction as the sound of movement became louder. Something was coming directly towards us. The movement rapid as it bounded through the trees. It was locking in. We waited cautiously; powers at the ready. It was right on top of us, maybe a second away. My chest was pounding while my ears rang with adrenaline. Here it comes.

They broke through the trees and fell on the patch of snow where we stood. They were tall, unbelievably massive but yet slender; they looked at us hesitantly. Their hooves clipping the snow as they kicked at it. They lowered their heads and flapped their ears, making sure we were who we really were. What stood before us were two deers: a doe and a stag. The doe's head hanged stood until the bottom of the stage head. Her nose was like a shiny piece of coal as I soft charcoal strip went down from her nose to the bottom of her top lip. A long white muzzle framed big almond shaped eyes. Long dark lashes contrasting from her sapphire blue irises, her pupils large and innocent. Her eyes were almost like rabbits except more oval and slimming, the inside a pale pink surrounded by white. Her body held a small slender frame. White thin fur clinging to her elegant body, looking like a petite doll.

The stag however was anything but petite. His frame was more muscular, well formed and striking but slim all the same. Black fur clung to his muscles as a strong neck held massive black antlers that were perfectly symmetrically. An arrangement of black ash spikes framed beautiful into two slim stocks upon the stags head. Landing right in between the stag's black ears that were kissed with a light ember orange on the inside. His eyes were much more narrow than the doe's; holding an aura of sternness and agitation. His eyes were the color of the forest during spring: when all the trees grow their evergreen needles and the blooming of flowers. His pupils tinged with the soft hint of ember and fire. He was the perfect embodiment of power and elegance as he stared at the four of us. Eyeing us carefully as he stood next to the doe with a protective stance. It was silent, no one daring to move as familiarity was being tested. That's when I noticed the doe locked eyes with me. The two of us sharing a silent conversation, like a language no one could understand. Is it you?

She flicked her ears slowly back and forth. Bowing her head slightly as she took a cautious step towards me. Huffing out a breath before it crystallized in the winter air. She took another step and the stag nipped at her neck. His bite coming as a warning making her look at him. He shook his head: telling her not to go any further. His eyes looked upon her with worry and concern. Begging to let him handle it. She stared at him for a bit, tilting her head to the side like a curious puppy. She slowly, almost hesitantly, rubbed her muzzle and the top of her head against the side of his face. A gesture that displayed affection, a gesture of love. She made sure to make him feel calm; to trust that she knew what she was doing. She reluctantly pulled away staring at him for a long hard minute before she turned her eyes. Making her way to me once more.

She was hesitant in her movement. Each step a question that was answered as soon as she took that step. The snow crunching beneath her white hooves, sniffing the air. She listened with every step: determining whether she had just stepped into a trap or into the arms of friends'. She stopped before me, her head right above me as she stood at her full height. Letting me know that she wasn't afraid and was willing to do anything for her safety. To make sure her and the stag get out of this alive. She lowered her face until she was eye level with me. Staring at me as she sniffed my hair and analyzed my eyes. She always knew how to tell someone's truth from their eyes. Always knew where to find the little white lie within an emotionless gaze. That's what she was doing to me. Trying to find the little lie within my eyes. To find the flaw that screamed imposter. But she could find none and she placed her forehead against mine. A greeting. She backed up and allowed me to pet her freely. The snow fur feeling soft to the touch, like a feather or a piece of cotton.

The stag trotted over to us, realizing the coast was clear the moment the doe accepted me. He came up to Pitch, bowing before him as he lowered his antlers to the ground. Displaying his respect and gratitude. He straightened up; his proud body towering over pitch.

"We found them," The stag spoke. His eyes flashing a vibrant green.

"Where?"

"In a field of snow, just behind this tree line. They are waiting..." His words held a heavy weight of seriousness. The fear of the unknowing prominent in his tone. We were silent, unable to respond as our own dread tugged at our heart strings. Just because we are heroes doesn't mean we can't be scared. We were once human after all. Besides I find fear to be a powerful thing and that it doesn't make you weaker...but stronger. Fear of being reprimanded for a lie makes you tell the truth. Fear of losing the girl makes you run after her. Fear of death makes you fight for life.

"I'm glad you're both safe Kaname," Pitch replied. Rubbing the stags head in appreciation. Kaname huffed and his hoof kicked at the snow thankfully. Making a small chuckle come from Celest as I continued to pet her softly. Laughing at her big strong stag acting like the cutest little puppy in front of his master. "Celest, Kaname...lead the way. Let's go save the world."

Kaname nodded in almost a bow before giving his attention to Celest. Gesturing for her to come by his side. Wanting to keep her close. She took her head from between my hands going to Kaname's side as she greeted him with a nuzzle. He greeted her back with the same gesture and affection. Seeing the two smile before they turned our backs to us. Leading the way through the trees as we followed idling behind. Jack coming to my side as he took my hand. Holding it tight.

The reason as to why we acted so unfamiliar to each other when Kaname and Celest came through the trees wasn't because they didn't know us. It was because we weren't sure if it was one of Yami's tricks. Haya warned us that Yami will try to trick us to make us not trust one another. Or use her schemes to make us kill each other. Celest and Kaname's reaction to us was more than reasonable...it was necessary. It was the leading factor that determined their survival, determined their friends and foes.

"How are you feeling?" Jack whispered in my ear. Breaking my train of thought.

"Nervous." I replied, looking ahead as I kept my eyes on Celest and Kaname. Making sure that they stayed safe. That I had their back and wouldn't allow anyone or anything to touch them.

"What do you have to be nervous about?" Jack sounded concerned, squeezing my hand reassuringly.

"I'm not a full guardian Jack, I'm-"

"You are guardian. Just because you didn't die and came back like the rest of us doesn't mean you aren't a guardian."

"But I'm not as strong as you either. I can't fly or levitate like you can. I-I just feel like I'm not at my full potential...that I could do more. I just don't know how." I admitted, looking down. This was always a conflicting topic for me. I always knew that I was different than them. I was born with powers. I wasn't created or chosen for a higher purpose like the rest of them. I was a simple queen who knew nothing about saving the world. And yet...here I am, surrounded by three of the most powerful guardians. I'm way out of my league.

"Elsa-"

"Shh!" Kaname said as he whipped his head around to look at us. "We're here."

We trade glances between one another. Stepping through the tree line and into the field of white. Scanning the white vastness of it all before our eyes landed on something green. She was about fifty yards away, flapping her wings as she hovered above the field. An orbit of darkness danced around her, looking a lot like Pitch's sand. North, Easter Bunny, and Sandy all stood beneath her. Their doll-like eyes looked lifeless as they peered upon us with unfamiliarity, without emotion. Brainwashed.

"We meet again guardians," Tooth spoke except it wasn't her voice. It was more velvet, dark; rich with evil magic and wickedness.

"Yami," Pitch said in a hushed voice.

"What do you mean?" I questioned. My eyes jumping back and forth from Pitch to Tooth. Watching Tooth carefully for any tricks that she may have up her sleeve.

"It's Yami's voice. She's using Tooth as a microphone, a messenger."

"SILENCE!" She screamed, eyes glowing yellow. "Only I speak," she giggled like a school girl. Lowering herself to the ground before she folded her wings behind her. "Ahem!" She cleared her throat as she slicked back the feathers on her head. Standing there like one of those popular girls who thought they were top dog. All prissy and privileged. "Guardians," She said in a fake cheerful tone. "Or should I say...Lambs for the slaughter." Her painted pink lips perked into a smirk, looking at us smugly. Pitch was about to attack when Tooth called us lambs being stopped by Saraphine's hand. "Look we all know what we're here for," she continued, grabbing everyone's attention once more. "You're here to make sure that I don't get what I want and I'm here to make sure I achieve world domination. Messy situation we find ourselves in isn't it? One where I am further damned into solitude or...you all die." She chuckled maniacally. "Oh quite messy indeed. But don't worry my little lambs I have a solution."

"I wonder what that could be. Alliance?!" I shouted. My hands were balled into fists; feeling my power surge in rage.

"Precisely," she hissed like a snake. Clamping her jaws menacingly. "Join me and you'll have the world in the palm of your hands. Don't and, well, let's just say you will be killed by your's truly. We both know that there's no way that you could defeat someone like me." She smirked. Bringing her hand up to the sky before she snapped her fingers. A small black light flashed between them and ribbons of black mass wrapped in a vortex of air. Creating a massive black dragon that had the body mass of three. It clamped it's massive jaws; biting at the air as a threat. A low grumble erupting from his throat with a head decorated with an arrangement of spikes. Long sharp pieces of black bone sticking out from it's neck all the way down to the tip of his tail. Long hooked like talons projected from his feet and buried into the snow. His body was framed with ripped black bat wings: the symbol of ragged war. Sensing the danger Kaname and Celest took the liberty of transforming into dragons themselves. Kaname was always a bit bigger than Celest when they transform, but neither of them could match the mass of the dragon before them. Of course their pure size did not make them back down, they were up for the challenged as they hissed and growled at the dragon before them. Two against one; that should be fun. "You see, I already have the upper hand. Ahaha, my dragon is so much bigger than the two of your's there's no way that you could-"

She was cut off by an ice dagger cutting her cheek. Blood trickling from the cut down to her bosom. She cursed and quickly put her hand on her face; her fingers touching the blood before she pulled it away. Peering at the crimson liquid on the tips of her fingers; glaring at the thrower of the dagger. Glaring at me as my hand was pointed towards her, another dagger at the ready.

"I hate girls like you," and I released the second dagger. She deflected the shard of ice making it stab into the white snow. I lurched for her and the battle began. Kaname and Celest took to the sky while the four of us took on the rest. Jack blocked Easter's rabbit kick with his wooden staff while Pitch surrounded Sandy with his nightmare dust. Saraphine dodged North's punch before she gave him one herself. And I took on the She-devil herself. Our powers clashed as we fought one on one. Getting closer to one another as her dark magic evaporated every shard of ice and beam of snow. The winter wind blowing through me as I fought with everything I got. But my attacks couldn't get through to her for she kept blocking them, making me growl in frustration.

"Let her go Yami!" I demanded, knowing that Tooth wasn't my enemy. That my mission was to save her...no matter how much she hates me. No matter how much she wished I was dead, to get me out of the way so she can have Jack for herself. I knew we never met eye to eye, we can't even be called friends, but she's a guardian and it's our job to save one another.

"Now why would I do that?" She laughed before she took flight. Flapping her wings frantically as she throw a wave of black magic towards me. My arms coming up to my face as they made an ice shield, blocking her attack.

"Because she doesn't belong to you!" I screamed angrily, throwing my palms to the ground. A large crack broke through the snow and I was lifted on a column on ice. Being raised thirty feet above the ground, meeting Tooth at eye level.

"She belonged to me the moment she allowed jealousy into her heart!" Yami snarled triumphantly. Whipping her hand from right to across her chest, three long half crescent blades heading my way. I twisted my hand into a fist as I watch the three blades coming my way. Crushing the ice column beneath me into a pile of snow. I uncurled my fist and faced my palm down to the earth. Moving it back and forth as I dodged the blades. Catching my breath after I had to limbo under the last black crescent. A small trickle of blood leaking from the minuscule cut on my forehead. Seeing Tooth smirk from the blood before she flew off. Me not to far behind on my mountain of snow. She twirled and flipped through the air sending a rain shower of black shards towards me. I dodged them the best I could but they cut through my skin. Almost tearing my dress into pieces. She flew in between the fighting dragons, weaving through Kaname's bite as the two dragons clash. Scratching at each other's throats as Celest bites at the massive dragon's back. Running her claws down his spine frantically trying to make him bleed. Tooth then climbed into the atmosphere, hovering far above the trees as she looked down at me. I narrowed my eyes at her and threw my hands to the earth. Making the hill climb and climb until I reached her height. The wind blowing furiously as her feathers ruffled wildly. My platinum Blonde braid vertical behind me as the train of my dress danced in the wind. She was flapping her wings rapidly as ribbons of translucent black wrapped around her. Her hands grew into raven like talons with black feathers that protruded into spikes. Her feet becoming talon like as well, slowly taking on the form of a harpy. Her eyes were an eerie yellow that danced with orange holding a menacing gaze.

"She didn't know what she was getting into!"

"Oh please, she knew exactly what she was getting into. Didn't you know that she wanted you dead. Slaughtered and pulled from limb to limb."

"You made her want that!"

"I don't make anyone want anything, I just bring out the worst in them. I bring out the thing that is buried deep within their soul, their darkest desire. And she wanted you dead, but her morals got in the way. So...I stepped in and she welcomed my help with gratitude."

"No," I shook my head. "She could never be that malicious."

"You'll be surprised."

"No, she could never think that! Never!" I threw my hands towards her, making explosions of snow go off around her. She snarled and furiously wiped the snow off her face. She threw her hand in the air, making a hook like gesture as a black orb slowly began to form. Not on my watch. I rose my hand to her's, flicking my fingers open to make ice form on her hand. Freezing it in an ice block as she hissed in pain. Looking at me with hate as she held her frozen hand in the other.

"Damn you!" The wind was more furious now, angrier. It whipped between us like a bull whip trying to make a rebellious mustang move. Whipping violently and relentlessly, not letting up. "Why are you wasting your time to save her when you know she wouldn't do the same."

"No!" Two ice daggers went flying with an icicle blizzard following behind them. She flew up trying to dodge my attack but I used my hand to change their gravity as they followed her like torpedos. She flapped her wings furiously trying to pick up speed, to get out of the reach of the storm. Unfortunately for her...I was faster. I flicked my hand across my chest and the storm launched passed her. One of them embedding itself into her leg before it melted into nothingness, the rest of her body covered in cuts. She clenched her teeth in pain as her hands went to her thigh. Watching it gush blood out of the small bullet like hole.

"Damn this body," she cursed and evaded into the low barring clouds. Using their dark luminous white as shelter from my sight. Stupidly I climbed into the clouds as well. My head whipping back and forth around me as I searched for her. Sensing her presence but unable to see her face.

"Dead! She wanted you dead!" Her voice was in my head as she screamed the words. Leaving a ringing in between my ears and pounding behind my eyes. I groaned in pain and fell to my knees, holding my head in between my hands. Strands of platinum blonde caressing my cheeks and forehead. "She wanted you out of the way so she could have Jack all to herself. She wanted you dead."

"No! She would never," I groaned back. Her voice not allowing me to think straight.

"Just imagine with you gone she could do whatever she pleased. Kiss him, hold him, indulge in unimaginable pleasures. She would have it all and you had to get in the way."

"No, no," I chanted. Shaking my head as I try to drive her out of it. Forgetting about her words as I try to only concentrate on my own.

"You, the Arendelle queen who could command winter at will. An equal to her crush and beautiful at that. You were everything she wanted to be. You had everything that she desired. You!"

"Shut up! Shut up!"

"Do you think she would do the same for you? Do you really think she would risk her life to save you? No, she wouldn't. She would leave you to the hounds if she had the chance!"

"It doesn't matter what she would do. What matters is what I'm doing, now get the fuck out of my head!" I flung my hands from my head out to my sides. Using the winter wind to push the clouds back and away. The clouds revealed her while her hands faced her wounded thigh. Healing it slowly as I watched it closed in minutes. Closing like some kind of sci-fi digitize Android. Without a second thought I grabbed her and we started free falling. We exchanged punches as we fell, doing flips as every punch pushed us away from one another. Rebounding ourself as we came in contact once more. Our feet pointed towards the sky as the gravity took hold. Pulling us down to the earth's core as the wind rushed passed us. Twisting and bending in the air as all were heard was a constant swoosh! We scratched and clawed at each other, ready to tear each other throats out. Each drawn out minute was only another leap from being smashed onto the earth's surface. We were getting dangerously close as the air made us spiral. Looking like a corkscrew or the twisting bullet that had just been fired from the barrel of a gun. We plummeted down, down, and farther down; testing to see which one will pull up first. Which one would give up first and who had less to lose. We locked eyes challenging each other mentally. Then, like a blowing out of a candle, she extended her wings and gave them a flap. Stopping herself from the fall as I did the same ten seconds after her. A tower of snow shooting from the earth and capturing me in a soft giant hand. The fingers fading away as I landed softly on the palm. The hand losing shape as it was just a measly hill once more. A hill that saved my life. I exhaled and stood on my two feet, dusting myself off as Tooth flew before me. Her arms crossed against her chest looking upon me with narrow eyes and a wicked grin.

"It's true that I have more to lose than you do. My freedom for one, but the things I want are figurative, untouchable by other's. While your's is within arm's reach."

My eyes widened and my voice came out in a hush whisper, "No."

She smirked and with the snap of her fingers sent a blade from the tip of her hand. Aiming directly at the boy named Jack Frost. I ran, the hill of snow carrying me as I dived to him. I tried stopping the blade by putting up barriers of ice and snow, but it passed through all of them effortlessly. There's was only one thing left to do. I ran to him frantically, watching him fight Easter oblivious to the danger beside him. We were neck and neck, the blade and I, but the fear of my fiancé dying overtook my speed. My feet touched ground, my legs pumping with every fiber I had in my body. My heart pounding out of my chest as my blood boiled. I reached out to him hearing the blade not far behind as I now stood between them. Almost there, Almost there. My head was pounded, sweat running down my cheeks and lips. This was it. I was gonna get him. I was gonna save him. I ran with all the love in the world and cried the moment my hand felt the tip of his blue sleeve.

"Jac-" My voice died off with a sharp gasp. My world had stopped. My hand on Jack's shoulder as I looked down at the jagged dark blade that pierced through my spine and out my stomach. A pool of my blood forming around the blade and down my body. My blue dress getting stained by my crimson red. I gasped for air as I tumble back onto the snow. Coughing up my own blood as I gasped for air.

I saved him.
