Rain
❄️ the picture is of Saraphine ❄️
In ordered to keep her safe...he had to let her go. Little did he know...he needs her so he can he live.
❄️
The thunder was soon replaced with the rain. Feeling the tears race down my cheeks as my lip trembled. My mouth hanging wide as I had the urge to scream. The screams that once surrounded the room died out and silence was soon there. I trembled as I looked upon her, a piercing pain shooting threw my body.
Black chains wrapped around her wrist and ankles. Hanging her as if she were a puppet laying limp. Her head bowed in exhaustion as her long hair cascaded down like a stream of blood. Her black and white wings drooping lifeless behind her.
"SARAPHINE!" I screamed. Screaming her name in hope for a response. For a shine of life that could illuminate from her death like state. What...what have they done to you? What have they done!
"SARAPHINE!"
"She can't hear you darling," Mother Nature spoke coldly. Making me look at her with raging eyes.
"What did you do to her." I demanded, turning my body as we were now face to face.
"We did what we had to do. We had to teach her a lesson."
"What...lesson." I growled, my breathing becoming heavy.
"She's on a loop and only can a council member turn it off. She can't hear us and we can't hear her because the loop has surrounded her with the words she needs to hear. For all you know she could be screaming in that void."
"What...what's in that loop? What are you making her listen to!"
"Screams. The screams of every child on earth, crying out for their parents but no one comes. The scream of every child who has a nightmare or hear something go bump in the night. A scream so heart breaking...it could mess with the mind."
My eyes widened as I became pale. "Turn it off! Turn it off now!"
"No. You are in no position to give me orders."
I growled, "why! Why are you doing this?! Why her!"
"Cause she thought you were good!"
I froze, every fiber in my body becoming tense. Shocked and somewhat scared of Mother Nature's words. Her eyes were now a fiery red, looking as if she wanted to born a hole right through me.
"What?" I questioned in a hushed whisper.
"We did this..." She paused as she inhaled deeply. "...because she thought you were good. She thought a creation made from darkness wasn't a monster. We had to punish her because of you. Because she thought you could be good. She's in this mess because she believed that you could be good, that a monster was a Saint. She's in her because of you Pitch Black!"
I shook my head as she took a step forward. "No...no...no! I can be good! I'm not a monster! I can-"
"You weren't destined to be good! You were created to be the monster, the villain to every heroes story. You taint the very ground you stand on, you poison the very air you breath. You cause nothing but chaos just by doing nothing. You...are a monster! A outcast and you will never be anything else but the thing that curses the very earth with your existence!"
It was silent as all you could hear was her shallow breathing. I shifted my eyes to the ground, hiding them with in my darkness as her words echoed in my mind. I'm I really...all that she says. Am I...the monster that hides under every child's bed. The thing of nightmares, the create that creeps in the veils of the night. Causing mayhem and war. Am I...
"Let her go."
"You are in no-"
"Then let's make a deal." I spoke, cutting her off as I slowly looked up. Staring at her with hallow eyes, feeling dead inside as I remained still.
"Let her go...and put me in her place."
She rose her eyebrows, "you? Take her place, you wouldn't have the heart-"
"Put me in her place, give me her punishment. Give me a worst one if you want, torture me if it pleases you. Just please, what ever you do, just don't hurt her."
Her eyes widened. Surprised and astonished with my words. She laughed wickedly, trying to hide her astonishment quickly so I wouldn't see. But she was too late...I could already see the regret growing within her. "You can't be serious." She spoke harshly. "Monsters don't care about others. Only about themselves. Do you really expect me to believe that you would do that for her."
My eyes narrowed. "I would die for her."
Her mouth fell agape, the astonishment flashing upon her face once more. Her lips parting and closing as she struggled to pick a choice of words. Becoming annoyed by her hesitation I took several steps towards her. Making us stand inches away as I glared into her eyes.
"Let...her..go." I demanded slowly. Making her feel dumb so she could understand.
Blinking twice, she soon snapped out of he trance. Bringing her hand up as she snapped her two fingers. Turning to look at Saraphine a sound like a machine turning off echoed into the room. The black chains fading away as Saraphine fell slowly upon the ground. I ran to her, uttering her name as I rushed to her lifeless corpse. Kneeling before her as I slowly held her upper body in my arms.
"Saraphine, Saraphine," I chanted, patting her face lightly in hope she would wake up.
"SARAPHINE...Saraphine!"
"She needs to rest Pitch, she probably-"
"Shut up! You're the one who did this to her."
"Pitch-"
"Just...just be quiet." I turned my attention back to Saraphine. Still trying to wake her up, just to make sure if she was alright.
"Saraphine, Saraphine please wake up. Please-"
"Aah," she groaned, turning her head slightly back and forth.
"Saraphine?"
She groaned again, her head moving more slowly as it followed in the direction of my voice.
"Saraphine, look at me please. Look at me."
She inhaled deeply, her eye lids slowly fluttering open. Greeting me with pale, dull, eyes that looked like a broken mirror. She scanned my face, opening her mouth as she tried to say something. Tears fell from her glossed over eyes, making her face look more broken from before.
"P...Pi-i-it-tch," she barely spoke in a whisper. Her voice cracked and dry as she tried to speak. She swallowed, trying to regain her voice as she tried again. "P-Pi-it-tch, I-I...I-"
"Shhhh," I hushed her. Placing my hand against her cheek as I stroked her lips with my thumb softly. "Don't try to speak. Save your strength."
"B-but I..." Her eyelids began to droop with exhaustion. Sighing as she fell unconscious in my arms. My face became hard as my eyebrows knitted together, tightening my arms around her. I picked her up bridal style, holding her tightly against my chest as her wings automatically hid in her back. Standing up I turned around and began to walk out of the room. Walking pass Mother Nature as she remained still, my feet stopping as I stood before the door.
"Remember our deal Mother Nature, my punishment for her safety. Do we have an understanding?"
"Yes, our deal will be honored."
"Good...cause if I find out that you didn't uphold our agreement...I will kill you." I threatened. If she wants me to play the monster...then let's play.
"You have been warned." I told her, walking through the door as I left her in that wretched room.
❄️
"Pitch!"
She was running, her red hair flowing behind her as she looked back from time to time. Fear residing in her eyes as she glanced back at the thing that was chasing her.
"PITCH! PITCH!" she screamed my name. Pleading for my help as she continued to run. I opened my mouth to say something but for some reason the words wouldn't form. I watched her as she ran and screamed my name. Opening my mouth as I tried to scream. Trying to make her hear me just to let her know that I am here. That I was here and wanted to help. I screamed but there was no sound, I shouted but no words, I pleaded...but there was no mercy. I had stood there motionless, helpless as he attacker closed in. Glancing back in fear...glancing back at...me?
She was soon cornered, pressing her back against a black wall. Her eyes peering into the monster's with fright.
"Pitch please, please don't do this?"
Saraphine? What are you-
"And why not deary?" He spoke in a dark tone. My head had snapped to where the voice came from. Ready to kill whoever would dare to hurt her. My eyes widened as I was staring at my nightmare self. Black hair and blazing yellow eyes, he wore a smirk as it contorted in darkness. Dressed in black as a trench coat draped his body. A man with my face and body, he was me and I was him. And yet there was never a time where we were so different. His soul was nothing but darkness, he was, indeed, a create of the night.
"Cause pitch this isn't you! You're not a monster! I know you can be good."
A psychotic laugh escaped his lip. A smile so evil it could pierce the light. "Good? Good she says. Ahahah, don't make me laugh girl."
"Pitch-" he cut her short as he grabbed her throat. Pinning her against the wall as she clawed at his wrist.
SARAPHINE! I lurched at him, trying to push him off of her. Ready to fight him but to my surprised...I went through him. Fading through his body as if I was a ghost or...a distant memory. I fell on the other side of him, turning onto my back as I sat up.
"You and I both know that I am nothing but darkness! That I am a monster of my own making. That I am...nothing but the thing that you hate. I am every humans nightmare and every demons king! I am the incarnation of evil!"
Saraphine shook her head in disbelief. "No, no! You don't believe that, I don't believe that! Come back to me Pitch, please. You are good, you are light. This ain't you, this should have never been you. Please...don't do this. Please...I lov-"
"Sorry deary, but..." He pause, raising his left hand as he made his nails grow into sharp like talons. Blades that could pierce through stone. "...there is no going back!" He growled, bringing his left hand to her chest.
SARAPHINE!
"PITCH-" she was cut off as his talons sank into her chest. Making her crane her neck back as she looked up at the sky. Her mouth open as she gasped sounds of pain and death. He turned his hand as it remained in her chest, gripping something tight as he was about to pull. Blood caking his hand and clothes as he kissed her neck softly. Whispering...
"Good bye Saraphine." And with those words he ripped out her heart. Holding it in his hand as her blood dripped from it. Taking a step back he allowed her blood covered corpse to flop to the ground. Staring down at her once beating heart...there was no remorse. No shame, no regret, and most of all...no compassion. He just stood there, blank like a hollow vessel. His hand tightening on her stolen heart as his eyes fell upon me.
"This was what they wanted."
What?
"This is what they wanted us to be! This...they made us this!"
No! No this is not me! You're not me!
"You are me and I am you. We are us! And this is what you'll you be! This is what we'll be!" He declared throwing his head back as he let out an evil laugh.
No! No!
"Ahaahaahahahah"
No! No! NOOOO!
"NO!" I shouted, lurching forward in my chair. My breath heavy as my eyes snapped to my hands. No blood. I looked up, frantically scanning the room. My eyes landing on Saraphine as she laid asleep in her bed. I sighed with relief, falling back into my chair. Pinching my nose bridge as I tried to calm down.
"It was only a nightmare, only a nightmare." I whispered. Inhaling deeply as I removed my hand from my face. Placing it on my heart as it beats slowly began to steady.
You...are a monster!
My mind was blank, but those words were the only thing that remained. Monster. Outcast. Dark. Evil. I have been called only these things and these things alone. Except...one has called me...something else. Good. Light. Nightingale.
I looked at Saraphine. Swallowing hard as that nightmare was still fresh in my mind. Will that...be me? If I'm push far enough will I become the thing I hate most. And will I kill...the one I love most. Do I push her away so she...can be safe from me. Do I have to leave the one good thing in my life so she can live. Must I be this way? Why? Was that nightmare my destiny...or was it a possibility? Is what I am...who I am set and stone? Can't I change for her?
Why can't I be with her.
If I must leave...
"Pitch."
My thinking was cut off as I heard a voice softly call my name. Saraphine smiled, her eyes showing life as they peered into my worried ones.
"S...Saraphine." I spoke in a shaky voice.
"Pitch," she spoke with happiness. Sitting up as I rushed to her side. Sitting on the side of the bed as I wrapped my arms around her. My arms had longed to hold her slim body. Yearned for her hands as she claws the back of my shirt. I bury my face in her shoulder, acquainting myself with the sweet smell of her.
"Pitch, Pitch, Pitch," she repeated frantically, wanting to make sure if I was really there. Wanting to believe that I wasn't a cruel figment of her imagination. Tightening my arms around her I began to stroke her hair softly. placing my lips against her forehead as I spoke against it.
"I got you. I got you." I whispered. Feeling her nod against my shoulder, she was trembling. Afraid and so was I. My little birdie, my Saraphine I don't want to leave you but...
If I must...I must force myself to.
There was a knock at the door. I sighed, already knowing who it was and what they wanted. Sighing, I reluctantly let go of Saraphine. Standing up as she looked at me confused. Her hand grabbing mine tightly as her eyes peered at the door.
"Come in." I spoke. Two guards walked into the room, both dressed in suits. Manny and Mother Nature walked in, Manny standing next to Saraphine as Mother Nature remained at the door.
"It's time Pitch," Mother Nature spoke. Casting her eyes to the floor as she refused to look at me.
"Very well then. Take me to it." I replied.
"Pitch...w-what are they talking about? Where are you going?" Saraphine asked, making me having to let go of my hand. I don't want her to see what happens next. I don't want her to follow me out that door. I looked away from Saraphine, shifting my eyes to Manny as my face contorted in pain.
"Manny..." I spoke grabbing his attention.
"Manny if you really do care about us. If you really do care about me..." I paused as he remained silent. "...please...do not let her follow me. Do not let her see what she doesn't need to see. Please for me."
He nodded, his eyebrows knitting together. "I will and...I am so sorry."
I shook my head, "there's nothing...to be sorry about."
"Pitch Black..." A guard spoke as he grabbed all our attentions. "...it's time." I nodded, walking forward as I allowed the guards to escort me.
"NO! DON'T TAKE HIM! DON'T TAKE HIM!" Saraphine protested. Getting out of bed as she ran towards me. Fortunately Manny grabbed her from behind, wrapping his arms around her waist as he held her there. She struggled against him, but she was unable to get free as I continue to walk to my punishment.
"NO! DON'T TAKE HIM! PITCH! PITCH!"
We walked out the door. It pained me to not answer to her cries, but I must do this. I must do this for her.
"PITCH!"
❄️ Three Weeks Later ❄️
She snapped her fingers. Making the chains fade away as I fell to the floor. Kneeling on the white polished floor as I tried to regain life again. Taking deep breaths as I could feel my power flow back into my body. I heard her black heels click as she walked, standing before me. Slowly she kneeled before me, staring into my eyes with the most pissed and relieved look.
"You foolish Nightingale." She spoke softly. Her lips parting with a sigh as she looked at me with loving eyes.
"I told Manny not to let you see," I spoke in a whisper.
She looked down, "I told him if he wouldn't let me see you I wouldn't join the council. He was more than willing to show me after I made that threat."
"You sly girl you." I replied, a bit annoyed and happy. We laughed, catching me by surprise as her arms wrapped around my neck.
"I missed you," she spoke in a whisper. Placing a kiss on my cheek.
"I missed you too," I replied shaky. Wrapping my arms around her and once again...I am aquatinted with her smell for the last time.
"Saraphine..." I whispered.
"Yeah?"
"We need to talk."
❄️
Standing under the cherry blossom tree...I told her everything. My gift when I was younger, the ability I had. I told her about my parents and my two half siblings. I told her what Mother Nature had said, what they all had said. I told her why she was being punished, that it was my fault. I spoke of the nightmare I had, the one when I killed her. I showed what I saw in my punishment. But when I told her I had to leave...she couldn't take it. Her eyes were filled with pain as if her heart was shattering. Which it was. Her lips parted with denial as she shook her head. The first rain drop falling upon the ground.
"No, no you're not going."
"Saraphine-"
"No!" It began to sprinkle. But we remained under that tree, uncaring of what was going on around us. We only cared about each other and that...was our strength. But also...our greatest weakness.
"I don't want to go, but I have to. I have to keep you safe."
"Safe? From who?"
"From me. In case I go dark. I don't want to kill you..." I grabbed her face in my hands. Staring into her eyes deeply as I can already see her tears. "...I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I did something to you. If anything happened to you. I wouldn't want to go on living."
"You won't go dark. You...you won't hurt me."
"You don't know that. I can and maybe I will. If I do...I need to be as far away from you as I can."
"Please..." It began to drizzle. Her bottom lip trembling as she grabbed my wrist with her shaky hands. "...please I beg you. Please don't leave me. I don't want to be without you."
"I want to be with you, I need it. But I have to go...I don't want to kill you."
"You don't have to go."
"I must."
"I love you," she whispered. Her cheeks stained with tears. Her breath heavy as she thought the urge to sob. I exhaled unsteady, feeling my heart become overwhelmed with joy, but also empty with pain. I took in a deep breath as I placed my forehead against hers. Grazing my nose against her's softly, hearing her breath hitch. Barely brushing my lips against her's. Whispering as I spoke against them...
"I know...and that's why I have to let you go." I paused, slowly pulling away as I placed my lips against her forehead. Letting them linger there as if to give my permanent imprint on her.
"Good bye My Little Birdie." I stepped away, her presence leaving mine. Turning around as the rain poured down on us. My feet leaving the ground as I began to fly away. Using the wind and rain as I cloak, to escape out of her sight and mind. The rain...my only friend. Please...look after her, for she...is the only one I'll ever love.
"PITCH!"
