A Proposal
Dying is man kinds greatest fear. The feeling of your body turning into dust just scares the shit out of you. The silence and nothingness. It's the fear of the unknown, of the uncertain. We try to avoid it as much as possible, we would move mountains just to wake up to another sunrise. To fall asleep to a full moon, to smell the newly cut green grass, to hear the laughter of our loved ones. We fight for life, even if it's a crappy one or a happy one or maybe even a lonely one. We fight with every inch of our soul and we keep fighting even if victory is impossible.
But...sometimes the cost of your life could save the life of billions. Could save a sister, a family, a misfit of friends, a father figure, a lover. I put my life on the line so they can still have one. I put my life on the line to save the world that is still unknown to me. This is what I remind myself as their powers seep into my skin. This is what I remember as their power cook me from the inside out. My still beating heart running a marathon as it pounds in my ears. It hurts...but it's what I have to do, what we have to do.
"Accept it Elsa! You're not accepting it!" Haya screamed from the side of the room. With the outmost fear fading her eyes.
"I'm trying!" I whimpered. Not wanting my screams to escape and break their caring hearts. Not wanting to stop the process just because I'm weak! I can feel Haya's eyes on me, a piece of her breaking off as she watched me in pain. Every second killing her until she could bear it no longer. She created us and to see the people she's suppose to protect...get hurt. It just tears her up inside. She's the over-protective mother that no teenager wants but needs. So I understood why she-
"Shut it down." She muttered. "SHUT IT DOWN!" She shouted again. More convicted and the waves of pain stopped. The heat and the running of my heart fell when I collapsed to my knees. Coughing as if the wind was kicked out of me.
"Elsa!" Jack's voice was laced with guilt and regret. Running to my side before he got on his knees. Pressing his forehead against the side of my head as his hand found my back. "Just breath Snowflake. Just breath," he begged.
"We should have never done this in the first place." Haya spoke with a sternness that could break mountains. But we knew that there will always be pain in her voice. Of course she's in pain, she lost her sister years ago, her best friend since she was born.
"If you just have given me a bit more time. I could of-"
"We have no time!" She scolded, cutting me off. "If I have given you more time...I don't know what would happen to your life. I don't know if you would win and were able to contain the power. Or explode and lose. I am not risking you over some damn technique that might defeat the darkness in tooth. That might send my sister back into that cage we put her in all those centuries ago. I am not risking you over a might, Elsa."
"But-"
"The technique won't be used. That is final. Now Pitch and Saraphine, keep training. Jack, take Elsa to the infirmary and have her looked over for any kind of damage. We don't have much time, the final battle is upon us and you're not quite ready yet." With those last words she began to walk away, walking with purpose.
"Where are you going?" I asked as Jack held me bridal style. My arms around his neck as Saraphine and Pitch began to train in the background.
"I have been summoned by the Council. Just keep training, I'll be back soon."
❄️ Manny's P.O.V ❄️
"You wished to see me?" Haya questioned with her head held high. Standing before us as we sat on our golden pedestals. My wife Solaria sitting on my right as Mother Nature sat on my left a little below me. Father Time next to her as he sat below her.
"How's the training coming along?" Mother Nature questioned a bit too harshly. I send an ice cold glare her way making her shuffle in her seat uncomfortably.
"They're doing well, but we have to pick up the pace of they're going to be completely ready."
"Pick up the pace? Why? Do you have some kind of deadline?" Solaria spoke softly. Confused as to why Haya needed to rush their training.
"Because I know when Yami will attack and where." She confessed as her hands went behind her back. Looking upon us with a blank expression.
"And how do you know that?" Father Time questioned. Seeing him become stiff as he leaned forward in his chair.
"I know this because me and my sister are on the same wave length. I can access her thoughts or send her a message through mind link."
"So does that mean your sister knows of our plans?!" Mother Natured asked panicked. Scared as she thought we had just lost the advantage of surprise.
"No. If I step out of the Guardians' Hall, she has free range into my mind. But since I'm in the Guardians' Hall it stops her wave length into my mind. But doesn't stop me from entering her's."
"Why is that? Why does it work that way?" I questioned.
"I'm not a hundred percent sure. I just know it works and that our plan is safe from Yami's hands."
"What is Yami's plan?" Solaria asked. Her hand reaching for mine as she held it tight. Her fingers trembling slightly in fear. I return her grasp, her trembling began to stop as I gave her a reassuring squeeze.
"She is planning to send Tooth and the mind controlled Guardians to Arendelle."
The atmosphere become tense as Father Time asked "why?"
"To terrorize the town."
A gasp fell over us. Feeling our hearts drop out of your chest to the very pits of anxiety.
"Why? Why bring the people of Arendelle into this?" Mother Nature asked, infuriated.
"Simple, she wants to grab our attention. And she believes this is the best way to do it." Haya spoke firm, almost like an emotionless soldier. Her eyes were filled with determination as she stood tall and proud. Speaking with conviction as she continued to tell us her plan. "But I believe we can stop Tooth and the Guardians in the winter woods. Right before the town limits of Arendelle."
"When, when will she attack?" Mother Nature spoke in a whisper. Her voice like wind as if no sound came from her lips.
I could tell that Haya's heart became heavy for she looked down and fumbled with her hands nervously. It was as if she was afraid of the answer. Afraid of the reaction we might give her. But...she couldn't be afraid, she wouldn't allow it. And with a snap of a finger she became stone cold and said, "Tuesday. She will attack next Tuesday."
"That's only-"
"Seven days." Haya interrupted Solaria. "Which is why I need to train the hell out of them. They're not ready."
"Maybe we should intervene." Solaria suggest as she turned her attention to the rest of us. Getting an approving nod from Mother Nature and Father Time.
"You can't." Haya spoke as she broke our little mental agreement. "You are the council, you're suppose to be the middle man and you are not allowed to choose sides. You have to be the judge and you are not allowed to be bias. No matter which side is more righteous."
"But Saraphine and Pitch and council members. Why do they get to fight?" Mother Natured said harshly. Crossing her arms as she raised one of her eyebrows.
"They get to fight because Pitch hasn't taken the Council member oath and Saraphine is the only Guardian that has light and dark within her. She was formed by both me and my sisters hands and she is the only Guardian capable of reforming the seal." Haya shouted. Snapping at Mother Nature as she made the egotistic council member bow her hand in embarrassment. Haya took a deep breath before she continued. Pinching the bridge of her nose in exhaustion. "Look, I know you want to help, I do. You are the council members, it is your job to keep the order of things. Which is why you ordered my sister to damnation, to a life full of solitude. And I don't blame you for that, she became unstable and grew up into the monster that she didn't want to become. The darkness is just too much for a good hearted girl like her to handle. Which is why she became corrupted and became the Yami we know today. But I beg of you, Council Members, to trust your Guardians and have faith in me that we will get the job done. And if Yami wins you can intervene, but please give us a chance first. I believe in them, I see my father's strength and my mother's heart in them. Please...believe in them."
Haya spoke sincere. Finally showing her emotions openly to us, to the first time ever. I don't blame her for being like ice, for being emotionless and trying to hide her heart. How could you blame her...when she's going against her own sister. Going against her bestfriend...how could you blame her for being stone cold? How?
"I believe in you and the Guardians and I know you will win. You have to win." I spoke breaking the silence. "The world's life rest in your hands and I'm glad that it does. You all make me proud, so make me even prouder and save the world you were created to protect."
"Thank you Manny, we won't let you done. We-"
I put my hand up. Letting her know that she needed to say no more. "You don't need to promise me anything. I trust you and I believe in you. Now...go train our Guardians right."
"Yes sir," she nodded with a thankful smile. Turning around and walking with a skip in her step. You did good Haya, you've always done good.
"Poor child, must be in so much pain. Having to send her sister into damnation, Again. Having to go against the only family she has left. It must be terrible, awful." Solaria spoke once Haya closed the door. Solaria staring long and hard at the giant wooden door as if she was watching Haya's whole life story. It was silent for the moment as me and the rest of the council just stare at the door. As if it had all the answers in the universe right there in front of us. Screaming at us all the reasons why, but it only made us think of more questions. What happened to Haya's parents? Why did Yami change? Why do we put the burden of the world on four, on just four Guardians? What will happen if Yami wins? What will happen if we win? How is Haya still sane? Many more questions came to mind. But we just had to sit there, sit there and believe that everything was going to be okay. That this was the way things were suppose to be. That this is the path, the only path that fate had chosen for those four. Those four young, naive, powerful, amazing Guardians. I now made deals with the facts and the truths with our situation. And with a now steadier heart, I replied to my wife and said...
"She has pain. But She is strong, she has to be strong. For he didn't let her be that way, he wouldn't allow her to be weak. Her father taught her to be strong for he knew...this time would come. He knew and he made sure she could handle it. In the end her strength saved
her. There is no doubt of how strong she is, but the true question is...are we strong enough?"
❄️ Elsa's P.O.V ❄️
"If she just let it continue a bit more, I could have done it. I could have-"
"That technique was stupid, the very thought of trying it was stupid! How could we be so foolish!? We almost cost your life over a damn
technique."
Me and Jack argued as the doctor worked on me. She was a female rabbit, she was like the female white version of the Easter Bunny except with a few differences. She had no stripes and had a little tuft of fur right between her ears. The tuft acted like bangs that she would have to blow out of her eyes every now and then. Her eyes were a vibrant green, the color of the greenest grass. Since she was a doctor she wore the regular doctor attire. Blue scrubs with a white coat that almost reached her ankles. Her coat had a shirt pocket on her left where she kept all her pens. Above the pocket was her name, Dr. Jackie, written in black. Oh, did I forget to mention she had antlers. Like deer antlers. Yes if you haven't figured it out by now Dr.Jackie is the infamous and legendary Jackalope. And I don't mean just a Jackalope, she was the Jackalope. Don't know why the Guardian's made her this why or how she was chosen for this job in the first place. But I bet it's one hell of a story! I wonder if she ever met Easter, I bet they would make one hell of a couple. Now that would be a sight to see. Maybe when this is all over and get his mind back in order. I might just play a little match maker. But besides all that, I was glad she was just tuning us out as she treated the burns on my back. My back facing Jack as he sat in the chair behind her.
"But the prophecy-"
"Prophecies are just things that could happen, not will happen. And that technique is not what we're going to do! We'll be fine without it."
"We have to, it's the-"
"Don't you understand Elsa, YOU WILL DIE!"
"DON'T YOU THINK I KNOW THAT!" I screamed at him and he fell quite. I put my hand up to my forehead, rubbing it with my finger tips as I was just utterly exhausted. Well this is quite awkward, fighting in front of a doctor as if she wasn't here. I felt bad that we were just plainly ignoring her. Making her be purposefully in the cross fire, figuratively and literally. Which is why I was glad Jack stopped talking while she worked on me. Allowing her to work in peace as she let out a sigh of utter relief. She hummed a little tune as she finished up my bandages. Making sure they were nice and secure so they wouldn't lift or fall off during training. That would have been really really bad.
"Your burns have been taken care of Mrs.Dellen. Come back in two days and I'll check the burns again, but they should be healed by then. Your heart and body is still in great condition, which means you will still be able to train." The doctor said, holding a clipboard that had all my charts.
"Thank you Dr. Jackie."
"It was my pleasure dear. You may go whenever you wish." She spoke as she signed my release papers. Putting the pen back into her pocket before she continued. "But I suggest that two should stay for a bit. It seems you two have a lot to talk about. This would be a private and safe place to do that."
"Thank you Doctor."
"Thanks doc," Jack replied, still sulking in the corner.
"I'm not Bugs Bunny boy, thank me probably!" She snapped at him. Earning a little laugh from me as he jumped back from her sudden sternness.
"Thank you Doctor Jackie!" He said, giving her a apology needed look.
"Your welcome Jack Frost," she smiled victorious. Putting her hand in her doctor's coat while she held the clipboard with the other. "Also good luck to you both. We're all counting on you. Happy training!" She said encouraging walking out the door and closing it behind her. Giving me and Jack the privacy we needed.
I like her, she's got spunk. I thought before I decided to address the elephant in the room. I turned my body, facing Jack as I sat on the edge of the bed. Biting my bottom lip nervously as I looked at him. Jack was sitting in the chair, crossed arms and a look that could be classified as nothing else but pouting. He always looked so cute when he pouted.
"I know I could have died. The prophecy even said that was a possibility. A very big possibility." I spoke as Jack looked at me. His eyes filled with pain as I told him the whole truth about the Prophecy. "I knew the risks. But I was willing to sacrifice my life to save yours because I love you. I love you so much to put my life on the line. To save the world that you live in so you can keep living in it without fear. I wasn't ready to die, if it meant leaving you I'm never ready. But if it was between saving you and saving myself, I will always save you Jack Frost, always. But now I'm sitting here wishing that I never found that damn prophecy. Because I want to live and I want to spend the rest of my eternity with you. But it's the only answer we have to defeat Yami, the only clue that was given. And I'm scared, practically terrified. I don't want to die, I want to be with you and only with you. But I can't be selfish, I don't have the right. The world comes before me, that is a duty of the Guardian." I explained and tears of pain and loss ran down my cheeks. Meeting my lips with their salty taste.
"Bull shit," Jack said through gritted teeth. Getting up as he stood before me. Cupping my chin in his hand, tilting it up to make me look at him. "Now you're going to listen and you're going to listen good." He said stern but sweet. His other hand wiping away my tears as they kept coming. My hands clutched the bottom of his hoodie, clinging onto him. "A Guardian's purpose is to protect the world and to protect the people in it. But a Guardian's purpose is also to find any possible way to win and to save as many people as they can. If our number one win...cost the life of you, then there's no way in hell we are going to do to. If you die, you'll kill me. My life without you...would be nothing, it would be worst than death. Colors would turn grey, the singing birds would no longer exist, and every breath I would take...would be painful and restricted. For if I can't hold you, kiss you, breath you in, look into your eyes, if I can't do that...I might as well end my own life. For I rather die with you...than trying to live without you. Do you understand?"
His voice was filled with pain and the fear of loss. My eyes filled with the same feeling as the tears just seem to pour. My heart aching and yet pounding so fast at the same time. My heart filled with pain...but also filled with love.
"Do you understand?" He asked again.
I nodded, my lips barely able to speak. Yes.
"Do you still want to use the technique?"
I shook my head. No.
"No more death?"
Nod, Yes.
"Do you want to find another way to defeat Yami? A way that allows us to stay together?"
"Please," I begged. "Please."
And with that...he crumpled and fell to his knees. His head buried into my shoulder as he clung to me for dear life. My hand entangled within his hair while the other clutch the back of his hoodie . Holding him tight as we both cried through heavy gasps and hearts that ached as one. We were both just scared children that just wanted to love and live our lives. Children who only wanted to live and lead happy lives.
"I'm sorry," was the only thing I could utter. The only thing that kept me afloat on this tidal wave of the pain. The only thing that made Jack hush me, look me in the eye and say, "it's not your fault. It was never your fault. You were just trying to do the right thing." We sat there and cried some more. Giving us time to climb out of the gorge of haunting thoughts. Of images and possibilities we wish not to see. We gave ourselves time to breath. And when he was good and ready he moved out of my shoulder, grabbed my face and kissed my lips tenderly. Reminding me how far his love went and how massive it was.
"I have to tell you something," he said sincere as he pulled away. His eyes completely love struck as he looked into mine. That look made me smile, he always made me smile. "I know this isn't the right time, it will probably never be the right time. But I can't wait any longer."
"Jack, w-what are you saying?"
"What I'm saying is," he paused as he got up and scooted back. His hand rummaging through his hoodie pocket as his tongue sticked out one corner of his mouth as he try to find the thing he was looking for. His face doing an "ah ha!" moment as he pulled his hand out of his pocket. My heart skipped a beat, maybe two or three. There in his hand...was a box, but not just any kind of boxer. It was fairly small, but quite tall and it fit right in the palm of his hand. It was colored a navy blue with a white snowflake like pattern bordering the edge of the box's top. The pattern shimmered in the light, dancing like artificial starlight in the night sky. It was a ring box.
Jack took a deep breath and with all the courage in the world he began to kneel. He kneeled on one knee before me, his other leg forming a perfect upside down L with his foot in between mine. Holding the same old pose that every man held before they popped "the question". He opened the box and my breath was taken away. The ring had a silver band that was laced with tiny crystals all the way around. The band split in two on each side of the main diamond that seemed to hold all the colors of the world. Around the diamond was a hexagon shape that framed the diamond, giving the ring a snowflake figure as smaller crystals were placed on each corner of the frame. It was the most beautiful diamond I had ever seen.
"Elsa Dellen, love of my life, holder of my heart..." he paused as he saw my breathless expression. The blush that kissed my cheeks and the hands that try to stop my heart from jumping out of my chest. My expression had only showed him my true happiness. And because of that he smiled like a fool who just loved love. His smile...was a beautiful smile. That most beautiful smile that Jack Frost has ever given to me.
"Will you marry me?"
