ALTERNATE ENDING: The Wolf with the Iron Jaw, Chapter 35

So some of these stories had different endings when I initially wrote them, but as I edited, I realized they wouldn't work.

That was the case with the very first book. I originally introduced the character of Daphne much earlier in the plot.

Here's the original ending to The Wolf with the Iron Jaw:

He smiled and gave a nod. Trinket let her eyes wander across the street, a strange, warm, fluttery feeling in her chest. However, the feeling faded into the background and her brow furrowed as she caught sight of something odd. Up ahead was a woman staggering through the street. Drunk? As they drew closer, though, it appeared that she was clawing at her throat, gasping for air. There was something strange on either side of her neck. They looked like...gills?

Her body stiffened, her eyes searching for someone else on the street, trying to see if anyone else noticed this strange woman. A sign, any sign that this was real and not her imagination. She finally tugged at Booker's sleeve.

"Do you see that?" she asked hesitantly, nodding towards the woman.

A smile slowly spread across Booker's face. "Oh yes. Yes I do."

"It almost seems as though..."

"She's drowning?" Booker suggested. "Drowning in the middle of the street."

He glanced down at her, raising his eyebrows playfully before pulling her closer and running straight towards the woman with gills gasping for air in the middle of a calm, warm, winter day.
