4. Lunch Date

Picking colleges in the United States and in the United Kingdom were similar yet different. Emilia applied to seven different colleges in Texas to study astrology. Six colleges accepted her and she got waitlisted in another. While it didn't matter in the end, applying to college seemed easy.

For the UK, it was hard. And for an international student, it was even harder. Deadlines were not as common and rolling, and there were more programs that had earlier deadlines. For an international student, she also had to transfer test scores from high school to their version of college entrance exams, and make sure her transcripts were sent to the colleges she tried applying for. It was a big headache, and Emilia didn't know if she could do it before she moved to Scotland. When her feet set foot in Scotland, Emilia had applied to four colleges in the UK and gotten into three.

It was now a month living in Scotland and Emilia was getting ready to travel to the University of Glasgow to check out the campus. The university was the closest university to the base, which was the best option for her. Her family wanted her to stay with them on-base just in case something popped up. Logan offered to drive her from the base to the city center. Even though it was around a fifteen minute drive, Emilia couldn't resist.

Logan picked up Emilia outside the base. When Emilia walked to the car, she noticed a figure sitting in the passenger seat. Logan got out of the car and hugged her.

"You alright?" Logan asked.

Emilia still couldn't get past that greeting. "I am. You?"

"Pretty good. My friend, Angelina, wanted to come with us if you don't mind. She's in the car if you want to meet her."

Emilia walked to the other side of the car. The passenger door opened and a girl walked out. She was around Emilia's height and wore leggings, a hoodie, and a jacket.

"Hi love!" the girl said. She wrapped Emilia into a hug. "I'm Angelina!"

Emilia hugged back. "Hi!"

Angelina walked around Emilia and opened the rear passenger. "Take the front seat! I'll be okay!"

Emilia smiled and opened the passenger side door. She got into the car and closed the door. Logan pulled away from the base and drove to Glasgow. The drive was short, but the amount of poor drivers on the icy roads made the drive feel even longer. It snowed in Scotland for the past two days, and everybody seemed to drive defensively or forgot how to drive. There was no in-between.

The snowy skyline of Glasgow looked hazy in the clouds. Mini snow mountains were pushed to the sidewalks. The line of traffic going in and out of the city hardly had a standstill, and there were no big crowds pushing into the streets. The snow and ice changed Glasgow into a peaceful, winter paradise.

Logan found a parking garage near the university. All three got out of the car and they carefully walked to the university. Angelia locked arms with Emilia as they reached part of the campus. The campus was built in the middle of Glasgow and had multiple buildings scattered around the city. Half of the buildings, such as the library and auditorium had medieval, Gothic architecture while the other half of the buildings, such as the student store looked more modern.

Emilia found the astronomy building. The building was two stories and looked very modern on the outside. Inside there were various classrooms and a big open space filled with chairs and tables. On the walls were pictures of space.

"Astronomy?" Logan asked. His voice echoed off the walls.

"Yeah. Contrary to popular belief, it's not because of my military upbringing," Emilia said. "I've always liked science and astronomy was the one subject that I truly bonded with. It's amazing looking up at the sky and seeing thousands of years already created."

"That sounds cool," Logan said. "Really cool. I imagine you'll be a great astronomer."

Emilia blushed. Logan walked next to her and offered his arm. She rested her hand in the crook of his arm. In that small interaction, both of them forgot about Angelia.

"Alrighty. Are you guys hungry?" Angelia asked. "We can go get some sushi. I know a great place."

"That sounds good," Emilia said. "Lead the way.''

The three of them left the astronomy building and walked around Glasgow to find a sushi restaurant. Emilia's hand stayed in the crook of Logan's arm. Angelina found a restaurant called Yo-Sushi and pointed to it. Both Logan and Emilia nodded their heads and Angelina opened the door.

The restaurant was one level. In the middle of the restaurant was a conveyor belt that had different types of sushi weaving around. Around the conveyor belt were tables and chairs. Waiters walked through the available space carrying different items. A hostess led the trio to a booth.

Angelia slid into one booth while Logan and Emilia slid into the other booth. Angelia and Logan both took out their phone and hovered it over a QR code. Logan placed his phone on the table, so Emilia could see the menu. After scrolling through, Emilia picked different types of sushi and some beef teriyaki.

As different types of food traveled on the conveyor belts, the three of them talked.

"So, tell me about yourself," Angelina said. "Logan mentioned some things, but I want the full picture."

"I moved here a month ago because my family is part of the military," Emilia said. "I'm from Texas, and I'm studying astronomy. What else do you want to know?"

"Everything!" Angelina said. "I want to know why Logan is fully interested in you."

Fully interested? That's interesting.

A plate of sushi stopped at their table. Emilia grabbed it and placed it on the table. She took the lid off the plate, grabbed some chopsticks, and began eating. Logan grabbed some chopsticks and grabbed a bite. Emilia smiled and playfully pulled the plate away.

"You both are so cute together," Angelina said.

Emilia blushed. She nudged Logan. "I need to go to the bathroom."

Logan got out of the booth. Emilia got out of the booth and went to the bathroom. As she freshened herself up, Emilia thought about what Angelina said. Her and Logan had been friends for over a month. Did Angelina know something she didn't?

She left the bathroom and walked back to the table. As she approached the table, she heard Angelina whisper something to Logan. She locked eyes with Emilia, and smiled. Emilia slid back into the booth, and brushed against Logan.

"What have you guys been talking about?" Emilia asked.

"Nothing serious," Angelina said. "I promise. Now tell me about you again."
