Five: Isolation, a good solution?

—————-

"Goodbye." Wendy left an astonished Erza in the woods. There was no purpose for the fight. No goal. Nothing.

"I'm never going back." Wendy swore to herself. "Never."

Now she was a wanted criminal. Not really, she drew the mustache on certain posters, so it totally wasn't her! Mwah ha ha!

'Am I doing something wrong? Nah.'

Everywhere she went, she saw the same wanted posters. As a response, Wendy kept drawing silly mustaches. This is what she wanted, and now she'll face the consequences of her actions.

Unless...

"May I stay? Pretty please? I haven't found a home yet." Wendy pouted. The couple glanced at the odd girl. They thought she looked well fed for someone who was supposed to be 'homeless'.

"Sure... only for a day," the man replied. Wendy finally found a place to stay. For now. What if they bail her out?

The girl pretended to be a nice guest when she received dinner or offered certain commodities. After she received them, she would cackle out of nowhere.

"If they're going to pester me like this..." Wendy sighed. "But hey, I'll get free food. Worth it!"

At night, the bluenette planned her next course of action. Which was surviving, duh. Her room was small, yet comfy. Laying down on the bed, she tried many sleeping methods, but instead her own memories haunted her.

In her vision, she looked like herself, except her guild mark was gone, and her face seemed covered with her bangs.

"Is that how I really look like... it's horrifying..." Wendy shivered at the thought.

"I'm you. If you weren't such a baby, maybe you would..."

"No— yes!"

"I didn't finish! So you're saying you would do anything to make everything better? Even if it takes your life?"

Wendy thought about the question. She didn't want to reply, to then regret her answer later on. Logic.

"I—" Wendy's voice cracked. "I don't know yet. I'm trying to figure out what's going on with me. It's like I'm not even in control of my own body... by you!"

"I'm helping you reach your full potential. Using my own methods, of course! You'll do as I say so!"

"Mhm. Whatever."

Still, she found herself crying in her sleep, waking up in the middle of the night. Maybe she should reconsider her decisions, but for today, that won't happen.

The next morning, she expected to see civilians living their lives. Turns out, it was a ghost town. The couple that allowed Wendy to stay at their shed was gone.

"My my, am I really that scary?" The girl stared at the table in confusion. She prepared herself some oatmeal, so she doesn't get too ill, and decided to inspect for more villagers.

"Isolation... it's the easy solution. Nothing would bother me here. Yet why..."

After what it felt like hours, Wendy noticed a group of thieves stealing from houses.

'Maybe they're from a dark guild?'

Again, none of her business. But here she was, walking up to the group of thieves, as if she were their friend. A cocky grin in her face.

"What brings you here? This is my town, so back off..."

The thieves didn't move. Instead they kept stealing more objects of value. Perfect opportunity to attack!

Wendy punched one of the thieves out of nowhere. It felt like the right thing to do. Next, she proceeded to do the same to the rest.

Until...

The adrenaline got the best of her, and all of her senses. Of course, she hoped she doesn't lose her control, or else this would turn into a bloody situation. On the other hand, no one would hear them or plead for help. She had the advantage.

One of the thieves fought back, and took a hold of her wrists, yet Wendy managed to break free. When he wasn't looking, the bluenette stole a sword from his satchel.

The katana felt heavy on her hands.

'Was this the right choice?'

Wendy instantly dropped the weapon. It didn't felt like her 'preferred method'. Perhaps this really wasn't her place after all. The thief disappeared,

She just watched the events. The bandits started fighting each other over who knows what, and went back to where they came from.

"All of this luck for nothing. Being evil is so difficult," she sighed dramatically. "So much pressure."

Dawn is nearby. Wendy felt the necessity to yell that she's free. She walked all over the town, as if she owned it. Which she did.

Since when? Today, obviously.

Isolation seemed like a temporary solution to her conflict. No distractions, no one to interrupt, sounds amazing, right?

Wendy should be euphoric, having a town all to herself. She could do whatever she wanted anytime, anywhere.

Although it got boring after a while. Maybe this was her biggest regret.
