Part 3-team skating
Karasuno PoV
The school day went slowly for everyone on the team. Lessons were boring, and in some cases (Hinata, Kageyama, Noya and tanaka) hard to follow and understand. But eventually the time of day came where they all individually headed to volleyball practice. At lunch they all sat together discussing the clothes they were wearing skating as they brought it to change afterwards. Hinata had brought his usual joggers and his T-shirt he got from the competition he placed in the year prior and kept them with his gym clothes in his bag.
Everyone worked a lot harder than normal to finish practice on time. Coach noticed and when he asked them about it they all said "we're going ice skating!" And then continued on with their work. They finished and got changed pretty hurriedly occasionally chatting about their abilities on the ice. "Hinata can you skate at all?"
Hinata's PoV
"Hinata can you skate at all?" I wracked my brain. Do I lie or just make up an excuse? I decided on just fibbing slightly "yeah I skated as a kid so I'm ok at it" I lied. If I didn't show them any jumps or get carried away I'm sure they'll believe me. We began getting changed and I put on my usual training clothes as well as a large mask and beanie to hide my hair. I'm used to being recognised at the rink and I didn't want to risk it and have them ask me to do jumps or spins. I was just going there to have fun.
"Oi Boke what's up with the mask and hat? Can barely tell it's you" "sorry Baka I like fashion" the lie just slipped from my lips before I could even think about it. "Come on guys were heading out" Daichi called as he walked out the door. The whole team scurried out of the room and we began walking to the rink me and Suga just conversing in Russian at the front of the group. "So Hinata why did you learn Russian?" "My cousin lived in Russia until about 2 years ago so I learned it for when we visited and when he moved here I made sure I could talk to him. What about you?" "Oh when I was 4 we moved to Russia for my dads work so I obviously learned the language. I still remember it and talking to you is good practice" "well I'm glad I could help. How well do you skate?" We continued talking to eachother in Russian neglecting everyone else around us.
"What are you guys even sayinggggg~" Nishinoya complained "yeah why are you talking in Russian so much?" Tanaka joined in. I just shrugged my shoulders and replied "Russian is a fun language. I like annoying the team knowing that they don't understand us." "That true but maybe we should stop and talk to them" "I guess" we giggled. "Sorry guys, just enjoying our private conversation" we laughed. "Anyway what did you guys wanna talk about?" I asked as we continued on to the rink.

We made it to the rink and I pulled up my mask trying to hide myself in such a public rink. It's usually shut for when Victor, Yuri and I practice in private so we can avoid people watching and/or recognising us. But this time I'd be infront of everyone. And even though I personally didn't think I was famous I noticed when we walked in they had posters of my winning all over the walls. Plus, according to my 'dads' I was really popular though I hadn't realised it myself and chose not to believe it.
"Shohei! Sho, hey! I mean sorry I speak fast" Yuuko corrected herself as I let out a sigh of relief. "I haven't seen you in ages Shoyo" she exclaimed as we walked closer. She knew how to act in front of people while I was incognito and I'm glad she realised who I was with. "Hi, Yuuko! This is my volleyball team we came to skate" "Hinata how do you know her?" Daichi asked. "Shoyo skated here when he was a kid I taught him how to skate and he was pretty good at it" "wow Hinata you never said you were good at this!" Nishinoya laughed patting me on the back. "Anyway I brought my own skates but these guys need to borrow some" i gestured to the team. I leaned over the counter whispering in her ear "if my 'dads' show up tell them I'm skating in a large group with a beanie and mask on. Thanks" "'dads'? That's so cute. Anyway! What size do you all wear?!" She raised her voice directing her attention at the team.
I pulled out my training skates that I usually wore when practicing so you could see they were well worn. They were white with a reflective blue rim and a glittery finish, Yuri had picked them for me as they reminded him of him and Victor as a couple and since they were my coaches it fit. I tightened them enough and stood up leaving my bag in my usual locker and headed back to the group. "You guys ready?" "Wow Hinata your skates look pretty expensive. How come you have your own?" Yamaguchi asked me. "Oh uh my ice skating teacher bought them for me ages ago. I haven't grown so they still fit" I replied shrugging it off as we walked out to the ice, Kiyoko and Yachi decided to just sit on the seats and watch as we skated.
Noya and Yamaguchi were terrible when they first got on the ice but I grabbed Noya by the arm and helped him and eventually he could do it on his own. "I actually took figure skating lessons until I was 12 so I can kinda still do it" Asahi told us. As we continued following the group he went further into the middle but still with the group before spinning similar to how I've seen Yurio spin. It was sloppy and I knew I could do it better but I was still slightly impressed. As he came closer I looked at him, complimenting his technique before giving him some pointers. The group seemed surprised but just went with it and from the corner of my eye I noticed 2 hooded figures approach the ice. My heart started pounding and I got nervous.
We continued acting like normal people skating around the edge of the rink occasionally shoving each other mainly just showing off and talking. I saw that Victor and Yuri were skating around just chatting as well probably waiting for a good opportunity. Tanaka seemed to enjoy knocking us over and at one point grabbed my arm throwing me up in the air expecting me to fall. Instead I slightly spun in the air and landed perfectly on one foot surprising everyone and continuing to skate. "Wha-" "Tanaka-senpai don't worry about it, I just have good reflexes from volleyball I guess" I said shrugging. This seemed to encourage my dads to come over.
They weren't properly disguised but they had hoodies on with the hoods up and masks on their face so you couldn't see it was them unless you tried. Victor kissed Yuri on the cheek through his mask and spun around skating backwards. He obviously had full control but to others, it would seem natural when he skated backwards knocking into Suga-san. "Oh my I'm so sorry" "don't worry about it, wait why are we speaking Russian?" Suga asked innocently. "You speak Russian?" Yuri asked skating towards the scene. "Uh yeah, I grew up there for a few years." "I'm so sorry I bumped into you i guess I got distracted" Vic giggled before winking at me. At this point, the whole team stopped skating and we moved to the side of the rink out of everyone's way to talk.
"So are you guys all friends?" Yuri asked the large group. "Yeah we're Karasunos volleyball team, we just came here from practice. What about you?" "Huh? Oh we're uh just here to relax. We come here before dates a lot" "you remind me of someone, but I can't think of who. It's weird" Daichi cut in. "We get that a lot, unfortunately, you guys seem nice though" "that was Russian babe" "oh sorr-" "you get recognised a lot? What are your names?" Suga cut him off. I looked them in the eyes and nodded discreetly as I watched the people skating by.
Somewhere on the rink, I heard "is that Shohei Hina?" And I instinctively pulled up my mask which I think Yuri and Victor noticed. They in turn pulled their masks down and smiled at the group which got shocked reactions from everyone but me. "Hi guys" "omg are you-" "Victor and Yuri? Omg are you?" Tanaka and Noya practically jumped around. "Yes but keep it quiet we don't like to be crowded" "he said yes but don't tell people, basically don't be loud Noya and Tanaka" Suga smirked. "Ok ok we won't be loud but I have to ask,, are you really coaching someone called Shohei Hina this year? I watched him skate it's incredible!" Noya was probably gonna slip soon from his excitement but no one stopped him.
"Yes, we coach Shohei. We privately rent the rink a lot so if you ever come down and it's shut we're probably training." Yuri explained. I was still blushing from Nishinoya's statement and I could tell 'dads' were internally laughing at me. "Isn't that Shohei over there? Look!" "Is it? I'm not sure." "Should we go ask if it's him?" "Maybe we can get a photo or autograph" I heard from somewhere on or off the rink, I couldn't tell. I started getting uncomfortable not really wanting to be exposed to the team which Yuri noticed. He whispered something to Victor who turned to the group and said
"How about we show you some jumps? We were about to head out so we could show you some stuff and then leave?" He suggested. "You'd do that? Wow thank you!" Yams squealed. I nodded at them and the pulled down their hoods and masks revealing their faces and hair which immediately caught attention. Victor kissed Yuri quickly on the lips then skated off to the middle of the rink where everyone backed away to the edge. He began skating closer to or group and right as he got close jumped and completed a quad effortlessly spinning at the end and stopping in front of us. The whole rink began clapping while I just stood jealous of his talent, but relieved that the attention was off of me.
Yuri did the same and when they came back we all decided to get off the ice together. Everyone returned their borrowed skates at the desk while I went to the locker room with my 'dads' to take mine off and grab my things. "Sorry we caused a scene, we didn't want you getting found out when people started talking about Shohei" Yuri said apologetically. "No, no it's fine I was relieved, though it was weird to hear Noya-senpai praise me even though it was indirectly" "you know you should just tell your team. They wouldn't care, sure to them you are famous and amazing but they still know the real you, the volleyball you. So it shouldn't matter" "I'm just scared" I replied "I don't want to be treated differently by them. If they knew I wouldn't have worn a mask and beanie and I'd show off for them like when tanaka threw me, but they don't know and I don't know how to tell them. It doesn't make sense sorry"
"don't go apologising for nothing Shoyo. How about a sleepover ay? Your mums at home tonight isn't she." "Yeah she is" "cool so the usual after you're done with your friends?" "Sure the usual" I smiled back admiring the two adults before me. Once I was finished we headed back outside where I pretended to fanboy every now and then saying thank you to Yuuko and leaving the rink. "It was lovely to- sorry, it was lovely to meet you all, hopefully we can see each other again? I'd love to take you out to dinner or something" "Victor, at least give them our numbers or something before saying stuff like that." "Sorry love, you're right."
He took my phone and 'put his number in' even though it was already there, claiming that ' I was the most likely to be seen at the rink again' which I nodded at. We all walked down to sakanoshita, introducing the two adults to coach Ukai and then we 'headed home' though I waited a bit before catching up to Yuri and Vic. We walked to their house chatting, while I told my mum what was happening and then we spent the night eating snacks, watching movies, playing games and just talking which was nice. Though on the ice they're my coaches both on and off the ice they are my father figures and so we enjoy just sitting and talking being open and personal which we never found hard. Most others probably don't have a close relationship with their coaches but I was lucky that I did.
