Chapter 15

"W-w-wha?!" Abby shrieked, face hotter than the Sahara desert. Devon blinked innocently at her. "What's wrong? All I did was take a bite?"

"B-baka!" She grumbled, eating the rest of the cookie and looking away, incredibly flustered.

"Hey guys, it's definitely getting dark now" sans pointed out, and Lucy frowned slightly.

"Um, excuse me for asking, but, uh, how can you know the times when your underground? And how does it go day or night?"

Sans chuckled. "King asgore can tell from the light shining through the barrier what the times are. So he passes it on to the royal scientist, who installed lights that automatically turn on in sync with when the sun comes out"

"Oh, that's very cool!" She exclaimed, and he grinned. "Yeah. But since the 'tough guys' (he made sarcastic air commas) come out when the light is low, it will be safer to get you guys to my house. You need sleep too"

"A-are you sure we aren't intruding?" Kara asked nervously, and sans laughed. "Nah, you ain't intruding. Especially since you won't even be there for long, like, a week tops. And that's a stretch" Kara agreed silently.

(Ps: their house in this story isn't really like their actual ingame house looks like. I made it this way for convenience)

They followed sans to his home, where papyrus sat on the sofa. His eyes widened when he saw the group of humans. Sans quickly explained.

"They're crashing here tonight paps"

Papyrus thought about this for a while before sighing. "Alright." Before he brightened up. "It could be fun! But sans..." He pondered. "Where do all of them sleep? We have only our own beds, as well as a spare one"

"I'll sort it out"

And so he did.

They put the spare mattress in Papyrus's room, and sorted out sleeping arrangements.
Lucy and Rebecca shared the spare mattress. Considering how large it was, Clarence, James and Mia took the sofa. Abigail and Devon set some nice thick blankets and pillows down in the living room floor, whilst Naruto chose to curl up on an armchair.

Kara decided to room with sans, flustering him before he regained his composure.

When everyone decided to go to sleep, Kara just sat on the end of the bed awkwardly with just her shirt and pants on, fidgeting. Sans shot her a glance.

"You should really get some sleep"

"I could say the same"

That caught him off guard. "H-huh?"

"You've just been standing there awkwardly, aren't you gonna sleep?"

"Skeletons don't need sleep-"

"Oh, don't give me that crap, papyrus told me how often you sleep. Besides, why have a bed if not to sleep in?"

He couldn't really muster up a response to that.

"Is it.... Is it because I'm rooming with you?" She asked awkwardly, and sans shook his head. "Oh no, nothing like that, i-uh...." He trailed off, and she noticed him grabbing his hands a lot. Then she saw. His hand creased.

"Is it because you don't want me to see what's under your gloves"

Sans' head shot to look at her, making her blink several times. Then he sighed and looked away.

"You figured it out?"

"'Course. Bones don't crease"

"Well...." He sighed. "Promise not to tell the others?"

"Of course I won't!" She assured him, and he sighed, reluctant. "Alrighty, here goes nuthin'"

She sat in suprise as he slowly pulled both gloves off, revealing skin. Then he put his hands to his head, and, after a seconds pause, pulled his head off. It was a mask.

She blinked. So this... Was actual sans?

He was human! A human boy!

He had silver hair that seemed tangled and unruly, unbrushed. He had one black eye and one blue eye, and his skin was very pale. He blushed at her stunned reaction, turning away.

"S-so your-"

"Y-yup" he sounded wistful. "A human boy"

"How old are you?" That was not the question he was expecting, but, at the same time, not the question he didn't want.

"I mean, I guess realistically I should be 25. But because I have not human, but monster magic running through me, I believe my growing pace has slowed. So I am around 17... I suppose.

"D-does papyrus know?"

"Well, yeah. But he tends to slip up and forget, calling me a skeleton. I don't mind. I just hope he doesn't end up telling random folk..."

"No offence to your disguise, but.... I mean, how has no one realised?"

"Lack of examples to reference me to. Skeletons are actually rather uncommon. In fact, papyrus was the result of a science experi-" he slapped his hand over his mouth with withdrawn pupils, implying he'd almost said something he didn't want to.

Not wanting to press, Kara just smiled sadly at him. "Well that's fine. I have no problem with you being human. A-are the others allowed to know?" For some reason, a part of her didn't want to tell them. A strange part wanted to keep his secret all to herself...

"Go ahead. Just make sure no monsters hear about it, mmk?" She nodded, then chuckled. "Now, are you coming to bed or no?"
