Chapter Fourteen

(Shaun's pov)

I woke up to this God awful migraine. I opened my eyes to see that everything was blurry. Where was I right now?

"Good, I see you're awake," a raspy voice spoke.

"Hmm?"

"Come on, wake up."

I blinked my eyes a few times, clearing my vision up enough to see than Sam was standing in front of me. I tried speaking to him, but my words came out muffled. It took me a few minutes to realize that I had something stuffed into my mouth.

"Here," he said as he walked over to me, pulling whatever had been stuffed into my mouth out.

"S-Sam? What did y-you do to m-me?" I asked, my words slurring.

"Just a high power sedative," he said, holding up a bottle.

"W-Why?"

My body felt so heavy, I couldn't move. My mind was so fuzzy right now, I was having trouble focusing.

"Because I don't need you anymore, that's why. You did what I asked of you. Your job is done now."

"You fucker."

"Aw now, don't get all bent out of shape," he said, moving closer to me.

"That's all you ever were, Shaun, just another one of my disposal pieces."

"I'm going to kill you," I slurred out, causing him to laugh at me.

"Yeah, sure," he said, walking away from me.

"So everything you said was nothing more than a lie?" I asked.

"Not entirely. I do regret how I raised you and Elliott. I shouldn't have been so hard on the two of you, especially Elliott," Sam said, his voice full of regret.

"Then why? Why are you doing this?"

"Because I have a chance to redeem myself."

"Redeem yourself?" I asked.

"Yes, with my grandchild."

My eyes widened at his statement. He can't be serious. He promised me he was going to help Phoenix and her baby. This isn't what he promised me.

"But you said,"

"I said I would protect her and the baby, which is what I'm doing," he said, interrupting me.

"How?"

"How what?"

"How are you going to do that? Because if you try to turn that baby into what you turned us into, then I can't let you do that," I said, trying to sound as threatening as possible.

"She's probably had the baby by now. So I did what you asked of me. I kept her safe."

"And her baby?"

"I'll be taking the baby."

"She won't let you take her child from her," I said.

I knew Phoenix. I knew her well. She would rather die than let him take her baby from her.

"Well, if she's dead, she won't have a day, so in the matter now, will she?" He said, causing my blood to run cold.

"Don't you fucking touch her," I weakly yelled out.

I tried moving from where I was at, but it's like I couldn't get my limbs to do what I was asking of them. Why couldn't I move? Why wasn't my body responding?

"I see the drug is starting to kick in."

"D-Drugs?"

Sam reached into his pocket and held out a bottle filled with this red liquid. I didn't have to read the label to know what it was. We call this drug the silent killer. We call it that because this drug is untraceable, the drug makes it look like the person died in their sleep.

"You won't be an issue for too much longer," Sam said as he stared down at me.

"Anything you want to know or tell me before you die?" He asked.

I stared at him, my vision going in and out as I tried to focus.

"That story you told me about my parents. Is it true?" I asked. There was a moment of silence before he finally spoke.

"No it's not."

"I want to know the truth."

"I see," he said as the room when quiet again.

"The truth is, you're my son, but Elliott wasn't biologically mine. You see, my wife at the time was having an affair. A few months later, she ended up pregnant. I was happy, thinking we were finally going to have a child, until she told me she was cheating on me. After he was born, we did a paternity test, only for it to come back that he wasn't mine. I decided to put it behind us, and choose to raise him as my own, even though there was always that little voice in the back of my head that kept reminding me that he wasn't really mine. Then you came a long, after I had my affair," Sam said.

"Then why lie?" I asked.

"Because."

"Because why?"

"Just because," he said, but I could tell in his voice he was hiding something from me.

"You said you'd tell me, so why are you lying?"

"Even with the drugs in you, you're still sharp as ever, I see," he said, chuckling.

I started gasping as my lungs tightened, cutting off some of my air supply as my throat felt like it was closing up on me. I could feel my heart start to beat at a slower rate.

"Because you were so weak when you were younger, Elliott was so much stronger than you, so I had no choice but to make him head of the family, but you surprised me though, that day when you were still in your teens and you put me on my ass. You only grew stronger from there. Maybe I shouldn't have given up on you so fast."

By now, my vision was completely gone. I couldn't see anymore. I could no longer move. My limbs might as well be non existent at this point. My breathing has slowed to a few shallow breaths every so often. I knew I only had a few seconds left. If I was lucky, maybe a minute or two.

I could hear Sam walk across the room. He opened a door before he left. I listened until I couldn't hear his footsteps anymore. So this was it. This is how it ends for me.

I guess it was fitting after all the wrongs I've done in my life. At least this was a peaceful death. It could be worse. Sam could've tortured me to death. I breathed in my last few gasps of air before my lungs completely shut down. I laid there, feeling my heart pump out its last beats. It was every going to make, before everything finally went black.
