Prologue: First encounter [edited]

Keith sighed tiredly with his chin on the palm of his hand it was barely the middle of the day, and to make it worse his enemy Lotor was sitting right behind him flinging erasers at him when he had the chance.

It was already bad enough that he happened to be in one of the worst moods ever, not that it was something new though. Keith just naturally hated everything, it was a normal everyday thing. Though Lotor was fueling his anger more which was definitely not a good thing to do, an angry Keith meant a horrible day.

So basically everyday was a horrible day, and the day was barely starting. Keith grinded his teeth and clenched his hands into tight fists, he growled as another eraser bounced off his head. "Lotor I swear.." He muttered in a dark tone, another eraser top was flung at him and painfully bounced off his head.

Keith turned around to face Lotor and scowled when he saw him holding a huge eraser that read 'for big mistakes' he then smirked. "Wow Lotor I never knew they made an eraser just for you." The classmates that had been listening and watching the pair suddenly busted with laughter, Lotor blushed in embarrassment and lowered the huge eraser, he had learned his lesson.

Don't fuck with Keith.

Keith turned around and brought his attention back to the paper in front of him. "Suck a dick Kogane." Lotor's friend spat at him. "Right back at you Zethrid, though I guess it'll be pretty exhausting for you after kissing Lotor's ass." Keith replied, the class was awed.

Two burns in just the matter of seconds, and the day was just beginning! Keith was a master of comebacks, which is also another reason why nobody else would mess with him.

Zethrid bit her tongue already knowing that she could not say anything else, she exhaled and minded her own business. Keith wondered why the teacher wasn't doing or saying anything, but little did he know the teacher already heard the stories. She knew well enough not to butt in when Keith is in his burning rampage.

And so the class soon ended, Keith packed up his stuff and was met with his friend Pidge who smiled up at him. "And Keith goes for the win, the crowd goes wild." She laughed. "You're in a peachy mood this morning." She joked. Keith rolled his eyes. "Ha ha very funny." He sighed obviously taking notice of her sarcasm. "Just pointing it out." She shrugged.

They met with their other friend at the cafeteria. "Hey Keith, what's this talk about you and Lotor fighting after school?" Shiro asked as he bit into an apple. "Probably just a rumor." Keith shrugged and sat next to Shiro. "He's always looking for trouble." He crossed his arms. "Yeah, just last week he put my science book on top of a tall cabinet...i'm 5'1 guys!" Pidge huffed.

Shiro frowned. "Honestly he never quits." Keith shook his head and reached for the milk carton on Shiro's tray. "I'll deal with him later." He mumbled and grabbed the bendy straw from the plastic silverware. "Keith!" Shiro looked like a disappointed father.

Keith respected Shiro, he was like a father figure to him he first met him at middle school, Shiro was a year or so older. And Keith was a small weak boy, he was the person everyone picked on and made fun of.

He was the odd one out.

But unlike the others Shiro helped him, talked to him, and eventually they became best friends. They grew closer over the years, though there was one incident that brought them closer than ever.

It was Shiro's first year of high school, his father picked him up from school intoxicated, and they got into a horrible accident.

Shiro was badly injured, near death, but he made it through. Though he lost two things that day, his father, and his arm.

Now he has a permanent scar across his nose and a prosthetic arm, it doesn't bother him as much now. Keith has helped him cope with all the trauma and helped him with the loss of his father.

Keith looked away and slumped his shoulders sipping his milk. "You will not fight him Keith." Shiro stated, Keith groaned. "Why not? He's the one who started it, and I'm going to be the one to end it." He promised. "You will not get in trouble again Keith." Pidge ate her lunch as she typed away on her laptop. "Shiro did you forget what he did to you? What he did to me? To Pidge!?" Keith was getting upset.

Both Shiro and Pidge winced, Pidge was like a little sister to Shiro, and after her brother's disappearance she really got depressed. Shiro was with her helping her go through it all giving her all the support she needed. Lotor would always make snarky remarks and joke about his absence which greatly hurt Pidge.

After Keith's outburst Shiro stayed quiet for a while before opening his mouth to speak. "Just..." he hesitated and shook his head. "Don't get caught on school grounds." Keith nodded, Pidge returned to quietly typing on her computer deleting the mistakes she made. "...make him pay...." Shiro muttered and stood from his seat to throw away his apple core.

Keith drank the last of his milk and stood from his own seat. "Don't let them get to you Pidge." The freshman nodded. "Sure thing, don't kill the guy okay?" she looked up at Keith with pleading puppy dog eyes, Pidge honestly hated violence so of course it was going to be hard for Keith not to kill the guy. He couldn't say no to that pouty face and sighed in defeat. "Okay fine." He agreed and stomped off.

He threw away his empty carton and ended up bumping into his other friend Hunk. "Hey Keith, I heard about your day." He laughed. "Ugh don't remind me I'll feel bad." Keith muttered. "....did Pidge get to you again?" Hunk asked with a 'you fell for it again' smile. "Oh come on we all fell for those eyes at least once!" Keith exclaimed with a blush of embarrassment.

Hunk laughed again and patted his shoulder. "You're right about that, especially Shiro, but I'm pretty sure Allura does more damage. He instantly falls head over heels for her when she does or says anything." That was absolutley right, Allura was student body president and Shiro was vice president. He admired Allura, looked up to her and he absolutely idolized her.

Whenever she passed by them during passing periods Shiro looked like a blind man seeing the sun for the first time, it was obvious he had some sort of deep feelings for her. "Don't say that in front of Pidge, she'll get super jelly." Keith warned. "Yeah I'll be careful, oh and before you leave." Hunk grabbed his backpack and pulled out a first aid kit.

"I heard the rumors, so it's just in case someone gets hurt." He stated with a twiddle of his thumbs. "Ugh really?" Keith whined, Hunk made huge pouty lips at Keith. "....fiiiinnneeee..." Keith groaned and took the kit. "I'm only taking it because it has an awesome color." He mumbled. "It's red." Hunk stated. "Exactly." Keith responded with a smirk as he pulled up the collar of his red jacket.

The bell rang signaling the end of the short lunch period.

He stuffed the kit in his backpack and trudged off, Keith was both feared and admired by most students. He was the school's 'badboy' the 'cool' guy. Many girls swooned over him, as he walked down the hall girls giggled to their friends and whispered into their ears with red faces and guys rolled their eyes, though there were some that gave him quick nods at him as if to show respect or greetings.

His next class was chemistry the class almost went silent as soon as he entered. "What?" he frowned, sure he was used to all the attention, but they weren't saying anything and that made him uncomfortable. "Mr.Kogane I just introduced the class to our new student in the back." The teacher explained.

Keith brought his attention to the back where his seat usually was, sitting at the huge blacktop desk was a brown haired boy who had a dry erase board in front of him. "Great.." Keith muttered, the boy was sitting at his desk. "Ooh Keith's gonna snap." A guy snickered. "Poor boy." A girl shook her head as Keith walked toward the boy. "He's so dead." Another gasped.

He was now standing in front of the boy. "Hey kid, you're in my seat." He stated, the boy jumped and quickly moved to the seat besides Keith's. "No hello?" Keith asked, the boy suddenly lit up and searched through his backpack taking out various dry erase markers.

Was this guy literally ignoring him?

The boy happily smiled when he found a dark blue marker. Keith didn't know why or how, but his smile was....cute.

He adored the boy's dimples and sunkissed skin, he also seemed to have light freckles over his cheeks, and amazing blue eyes.

But he was still ignoring him!!

Keith stared at the boy in front of him. "Are you deaf or what?" he sneered, the brunette grinned and scribbled on his board he then showed it to Keith. "Nope, but I'm mute." It said with a winky face at the end, and then there was more writing. "By the way I'm Lance, but you can call me..."

It continued on.

"Anytime 😘"

That was the first time Keith smiled in months. And the first time he ever talked to a cute boy.

Well...sorta talked.
