Chapter 8: Different perspectives
"She's not answering." Augustine sighed as he placed his phone down.
"I'm not surprised, you know how she is. I doubt she was happy when I dropped her off and I think you know the reason." Diantha huffed. Augustine leaned on his desk, his face buried in his hands.
"What am I going to do?" He asked rhetorically
"You could apologize that's a start, then you can make it up to her" Diantha answered. She had known Augustine for years and cared for him deeply, she cared so much she didn't mind calling him out.
"I know that much," he said, looking up "but how my going to do that if she won't even answer the phone?"
"I don't know but this is the sixth time you've promised to drop her off then change the plans last minute. I wouldn't be surprised if she's come to expect this by now!" She paused for a minute. "I know you can't help the fact that people need you, but you're more than a professor you're a father and your children should come first. I haven't actually seen you with Aireona all that much. I know that things come up last minute, I am an actress for crying out loud. But I also don't have kids to worry about ,you do." Diantha turned to leave.
"All I can ask is that you think of a way to try and make this up to her". And with that she left.
Augustine laid back in his chair. His eyes wandered around his office until they were caught by a glint of light at the corner of his desk. It was a picture of him and Aireona quite a few years ago. Before Aireona had even become a trainer. Things of been so different back then, he'd had time to spend with her, he had time to drop her off for her she needed to be, to play with her, to do all sorts of things. But now he didn't have any of that. No he had piles upon piles of work to do and a near teenage daughter who needed his attention, attention he just couldn't give. When he had time, he loved to play with the seven-year-old girl that was in the picture. But now ,five years later, things were so different it was hard to adjust. Aireona always said she understood, that she wasn't mad. Was she lying? Was she trying to spare his feelings, or did she just like being alone? Years ago he would've been able to answer those questions, he'd known her so well but now it felt like he didn't know her at all.
"Guess that's my fault." he muttered. He looked at his phone again, went to his contacts, and picked Aireona.
