A number of weeks had passed. Aireona had continued her journey with Hau and Lillie. After defeating the Grand Trial on Mele Mele, while her friends were at the Pokémon center, Aire went to professor Kukui's lab to pay him a visit before going to the next island. The moment she walked in she felt a familiar energy, the energy a Darkne gave off to alert other Darknie of their presence. Without missing a beat, the boy professor Kukui was talking with turned and looked Aireona. It was the same boy Aireona saw at the school. They both just gave each other blank stares, finally realizing what the other one was.
Professor Kukui finally broke the silence. "Oh Alola Aireona, I don't believe you two have properly met. This is-"
"Kiawe" the boy broke in.
"Oh well Alola, I'm Aireona."
The awkwardness continued to drag on until Aire turned to Professor Kukui.
"If this is a bad time I can go" she said turning to the door.
"Oh no we were just finishing anyway. What's up?"
"I came to tell you I'm headed to the next island."
"Really that's wonderful, I will finish here then meet you and your friends at the beach to see you off. Ok?"
Aireona smiled and nodded. And with that she left.

Kiawe had watched the exchange in confusion. 'Why, how? How is this possible? Other than my family there have not been Darknie in Alola for hundreds of years.'
He turned to Professor Kukui and asked "Does she live in Alola?"
Professor Kukui gave Kiawe an evil smirk. "Why? You interested?"
Kiawe gave him a cold look."No"
"I know, I'm teasing. She's from Kalos. Arrived a few weeks ago to get information for her fath- I mean research."
"Ok" Kiawe said. Something told him she would not be an easy opponent.
