I wake up in a warm bed that smells like Toby. I bury my face into in and breathe. I just want to sleep. But, I get up. I look around the room. Dirty clothes and trash are everywhere. I sigh. I throw myself out of bed. I run my fingers through my hair. I open the door. About the same time, Dreams opens hers.
"Good morning." She whispers.
"Hey. Good morning."
I hear talking downstairs.
Dreams whispers, "Let's eavesdrop."
We kneel near the beginning of stairs. I hear arguing.
"...watched her for weeks now. I am sure. What about you? You knew Dreams for a week before you decided to marry her!" Toby argues. Jeff sighs.
"It's different."
Toby raises his voice. "What's different? Love is love. And I love her!"
The front door slams. Dreams walks downstairs. Jeff hugs her.
"He doesn't understand. He's lovesick."
"She loves him. I saw it in her eyes."
I walk downstairs. Jeff sees me.
"Hey, Toby made you breakfast. It's on the counter."
A steaming plate of waffles sit on the counter. I walk up and see a note.

For a girl as sweet as syrup.

Then, Toby walks in about thirty minutes later.
"Hey, wanna go to the park?"
"Yeah."
We walk to the park. When we get to the park, I see a picnic laid out on a cliché red checkered blanket. We sit crisscross. He hands me a chocolate chip waffle and some cheesecake.
"Mon cherie"
"You know French?"
"No, me and Jeff watched a romantic comedy last night."
We laugh. His laugh is more beautiful than... everything! We leave everything there. He said he'll get it later.
"Race me?" He asks.
"Bring it."
We run and he may be a bit faster but, I begin to catch up. Then, he trips and we roll to the ground. He winds up on top of me. We both laugh nervously. He leans in and kisses me. I taste the syrup on his lips. I kiss him back. He picks me up and carries me like a baby. I can smell his cologne and more syrup as I bury my head into his shoulder. I fall asleep to him humming a sweet melody.
He kisses my forehead and whispers, "I love you."
I nuzzle my head into his jacket. "I always have."
