Chapter 10
As midterms were fast approaching, so was the change of seasons. The nights got a little chillier, the morning with a bit of fog, and the everlasting rains throughout the week.
For some reason this year, be it global warming or the whim of the gods, the rain did not stop. To the point that the school was allowing students to leave early a few times from class. And the cherry on top, was when the power went out. The morning on friday, classes came and went as usual; students huddling under umbrellas and running to their classes. Tsu was lucky with a half schedule on Fridays so she had left early to visit her family. Your family on the other hand lived a few hours away by car, so seeing them during this storm was impossible. A few other students were in the same boat and once classes ended they hid in their dorms, dry and away from the rain.
As the day progressed, the lights flickered in a few lecture halls, the computers began to malfunction and restart, until finally the power went out. The sidewalks were slowly flooding faster than the drains could stop it. Students received an emergency text from the school saying that classes were dismissed until monday morning due to the storm and that homework or projects that were meant to be due Monday will be postponed since the Wifi service had also shut down. The students could be seen calling family and friends and driving away from their school for their safety.
You drove back to your apartment, running up the steps with your umbrella and fumbling with the keys. The rain was hitting so hard it was starting to fill up your rainboots with water. You finally get into your haven and shut the door. You lock it up and take off your purple rainboots. You frown at your wet socks but sigh as you take them off and toss them in the washer with a load of your laundry. You decided to change into your warmer pajamas: a long sleeve light blue shirt with a pastel plaid pajamas pants. You slid on your slippers and went to the cabinet of the kitchen to grab a packet of instant hot cocoa.
Just before you rip it open you hear your phone ring. You grab it and notice the caller ID says it's Tamaki.
"Hello? You okay Tamaki?"
"Hey Y/N, um... the storm is pretty bad huh?"
"Yeah, I'm lucky I got out early so I'm back at my apartment. What about you? You going to your parent's house?"
"N-No, they live pretty far..."
"Oh, do you have plans on where to stay?"
"Well, Mirio and Nejire already have people they're staying with and....um...I-I-I was g-gonna ask..."
"Did you want to stay here?"
"You wouldn't mind?"
"Not at all! I was worried honestly I was about to call and ask if you guys were okay. But yeah bring a change of clothes and come on over. The school isn't safe now and I have wifi if you have a project you're working on."
"Ok-kay I'll b-be right over!"
"Okay, see you then! Bye!" You hang up the phone and quickly try to clean up the living room. You texted Tsu to ask if it was okay if Tamaki slept in her room for the weekend, which led to a group chat of the girls asking if he and you were already together. After getting them to shut up for a second you explained why he was staying over; the girls were so bummed but tried to get you to wear makeup and something cute.
Which is when you realized you were in your pajamas and bunny slippers. Not the kind of cute you were hoping for but it was too late to change when you heard a knock on the door. You checked by the window quickly to make sure it was Tamaki before opening the door. He said a quickly hello before rushing in. You shut the door behind him and saw that he was absolutely soaked. You then remembered he didn't have an umbrella. So all throughout the day he's just been running and getting soaked.
He took off his jacket only to have his shirt also soaked. He lifted his shirt a bit with one hand to wipe his face from all the water. You saw a peak of his abs and good god was and unexpected treat. You hid your blush as he turned to hang his jacket to dry.
"Did you want to shower? I wouldn't want you to catch a cold because of the storm."
"Oh, thank you I will."
"Okey dokey, there's towels in the bathroom and some shampoo if you'd like. I'll get us some hot cocoa."
He smiled at you, always feeling calm in your presence. He felt like his life was the storm outside and you, you were the safety the calm the protects him from the storm. He nodded as he head off to shower.
You sighed as you headed to the kitchen, thinking of his lovely abs again. You look down at the lonely packet of hot cocoa and decide to make homemade instead. You pop out the unsweetened cocoa powder, milk, sugar, etc. You let it come to a soft boil on the stove before moving it to a different burner to cool. As you hear the shower turn off you start scooping the hot cocoa into mugs. As the cherry on top you grab a marshmallows and top the mugs with them.
"Thank you for the shower Y/N, I feel so relieved." He was also wearing pajamas. A simple blue and white checkered pajamas. The top was a collared and buttoned long sleeve and the bottoms were pants, also blue and white checkered. He looked so adorable.
"No problem. Want some hot cocoa?"
"Yes please." You hand him a mug and he takes a whiff of the chocolatey goodness. He lets out a soft sigh after a sip. You both decide to sit and watch a show on disney plus while you both warm up with the cocoa.
After a bit, you had a question in your mind. It wasn't a big deal, just something you were curious about.
"Hey Tamaki?"
"Yeah?"
"We're friends right?"
"I would hope so."
"It's just, I was wondering why we never had nicknames for each other."
"Do you want a nickname?"
"Yeah, I mean I call Tsuyu Tsu, and I usually give nicknames to my friends."
"I don't know what nickname I could give you. Maybe something related to desserts?"
"Hmm maybe!" He was about to give a suggestion when he saw your slippers. He tried his laugh as he saw the bunnies ears flip around as you swayed your feet.
"Are those bunny slippers?"
"Yup! They's so warm so I love them during the rainy season."
"Maybe I should call you bunny." He said jokingly. You thought about it for a minute. It wasn't a bad nickname. It was cute, quick, and affectionate (and it could double as a romantic nickname if you and Tamaki end up together but sshhhh don't let him know that).
"I like it!"
"Really?"
"Yeah! Now your turn for a nickname." He smiled as he shook his head, preparing himself for the worst possible nickname.
"What about Tam Tam?" In fact it was the worst possible nickname.
"Mirio called me that all throughout our school years." He said trying not to laugh.
"Ah so it got old. Hmmm, what about Tama?"
Now that did make him blush...
