Chapter 3
---Nick's POV---
"Jesus Tyler, you gave us a heart-attack!" I shouted out laughingly while Tyler just grinned as he jumped up onto the bench and sat right in front of Paige, who looked slightly curious.
"You know what they say about payback, right?" he just replied while he stared down at Paige. "Hello to you too." He said with a seductive smile as he winked at her. I shoved him of the table while saying, "No hitting on my sister!" He landed on the ground with a satisfying thud and I grinned as he glared at me.
"No way that you two are related, she is too good-looking for that." Tyler said while his smirk came back. He stood up and wiped of his pants. I saw Paige roll her eyes and I couldn't help the smile spreading on my face.
At she knew a flirt when she saw one.
"Care to introduce us?" Tyler said while he walked to Paige, all smiles and seduction. I rolled my eyes while saying, "Tyler, meet my sister Paige," I said while gesturing at her with a hand, "Paige, that playboy over there is Tyler." I finished with a smirk while they shook hands.
"Don't mind him, He's just jealous because he can't date you." Tyler said with a smug look on his face. Paige raised an eyebrow at him while I glared at Tyler. He just wriggled his eyebrows at me, what ticked me off.
"What the hell are you saying to her? Do you want to scare her?" I said through the mind link, while I looked worriedly at my sister. She seemed unfazed by his comments.
He just smiled at me in a taunting way and I was about to open my mouth when Paige spoke up.
"That is my brother you are talking about." She said while staring at Tyler. His smile wavered a little while he looked back at her. Jack was looking at us intently, well, more specifically Paige.
"So... what's that to you?" Tyler said after a while, trying to make sense of it.
"That means he is family," she pointed at me, "and you are a stranger." She said while poking him in the chest. "Never heard of stranger danger?" She smirked.
"Uh, what?" Tyler stuttered while he glanced at us. When I glanced at Jack to see if he understood it, I saw him grinning. What the hell?
"You'll see. Rule number one of stranger danger." He said with a smirk before he watched Paige.
"I'm not talking to strangers." Paige said with a stern voice, tilting her nose in the air while trying to hold back a smile. I grinned when Tyler looked stunned for a moment, almost shocked. Jack and I busted into laughter, hardly able to pick up on the conversation.
"Ah come one. Give me a chance-"
"Nu-uh, not talking to you." Paige said while I was trying to keep breathing until I noticed that Jack was biting on his lip to contain himself. That set me off again.
"Come on, Jack's a stranger too." Tyler tried to reason. I saw Jack calm down instantly and he gave Paige a concerned look.
"Wrong again, Jack got introduced during class and proved to be trust-worthy and a true friend." She smirked as Jack hissed out a pleased "Yes!" and fist-pumped in the air. She smiled, trying desperately to keep up the ruse before Tyler's stunned wide-eyed gaze broke her.
Tyler looked around, unsure what to do as we laughed like hyenas, cackling and erupting in more laughter whenever we glanced at one another until we finally calmed down enough.
"What the hell was that all for?" Tyler demanded.
Paige looked up at him and batted her eyelashes a few times. "You know what they say about payback, right?" She asked innocently. Tyler became red and muttered, "Shut up!" under his breath while Jack and I were grinning like idiots.
"Hey, do you really see me as a good friend?" Jack asked, having all of us turn around to look at Paige. She just smiled and said, "Of course, you saved me some death-glares from Rodriguez." She pretended to shudder. "May I ask what you did before I came into class that made him a grouch?"
Jack smirked, same as Tyler and I; dang this girl really was fitting into the group nicely. Maybe we should ask Jacob-
"Ask me what?" Jacob asked through the mind-link.
"Well, I was thinking..." I said noticing that the guys were talking to Paige while they listened in. "Since she's part of my family, can't we allow her into the pack? And the pack secret?"
I felt that the guys thought it was a great idea but before they could even comment on it, Jacob rejected the idea with a firm "NO." Even if we wanted to, we couldn't really disobey an Alpha command, well, unless we bypassed Jacob and went straight to his father.
I sighed before I dropped the subject; we would talk about this later. Going behind Jacob's back would only show that we didn't trust his judgement and make our future Alpha believe we couldn't be trusted to follow his word either.
I froze on the spot when I heard a newcomer speak up.
"Well, never thought I could see a dog fight up close." A male spoke up with an irritating, sly tone to it.
The three of us jumped up while we turned around to face him, while making sure that Paige was surrounded by us.
---Paige's POV---
I didn't understand it. One moment we were all laughing, I was listening to Jack's story about the prank he used on Rodrigues while I saw a pair of newcomers walking towards us. I thought nothing of it first; I assumed they would be friends like Tyler, making me wonder how many of the school body were in fact werewolves and how little of them were human.
The next thing I know is the guys all crowding towards me while they looked at the speaker in a threatening way. Wow, someone pissed off this pack. I glanced at him over Nick's shoulder, slightly curious about the newcomer, especially since he stood there completely fearless, even while being stared down by three werewolves.
The two guys in front of us were both well build but not so defined as Nick and his friends. Huh, no werewolves. And yet, not a sliver of fear. Odd...
They were both wearing a similar outfit, dark tones and edgy clothes that one would usually link to the typical goth look. Yet, the way they wore it, the calm confidence they exuded made the look seem much more than dark and depressing.
It looked...threatening.
They looked like normal teens to me, but in a town like this.... He didn't even look at me; instead he stared at Nick and the others with disgust on his face. That feeling was mutual, as they stared back with disgust till the point of pure hate. Jack and Tyler gave me a worried look, unintentionally drawing the speaker's attention to me.
He raised an eyebrow while he looked at me. "And how are you today, gorgeous? Seems like you're new around here..." He was interrupted by Nick who grunted "None of your damned business Kale. Leave her alone."
"Ooh." Kale said while he kept his eyes on me. I slightly shivered at how evil and taunting that one word sounded. "Touchy today, aren't we? I was just wondering what this lovely lady is doing here, hanging around with savages like you." He grinned evilly while he looked at Nick and the guys.
I noticed that their fists were clenched and shaking heavily. Oh crap, I recognized that stance. Jacob looked that way a split second before he changed. I was preparing myself for a slaughter when Kale spoke up.
"Ah, come now. We don't want to make a scene in front of the lady now, do we?" he said, while his eyes dug back into mine. There was something how he spoke out the word scene, like he was implicating something else. I didn't know why, but my instincts were screaming "DANGER! Stay away from this guy!"
Yeah, kind of obvious, instincts!
The boys glanced at me quickly, and I saw flashes of concern, anger and surprise roll through their eyes before they took deep breaths. They were calming down slowly when my enhanced hearing caught the sound of several feet, stomping towards us.
Kale and his silent friend noticed this too, because the guy turned his head slightly and smirked. "Oops, looks like we woke up some sleeping dogs Kale."
Kale just grinned, almost seeming pleased with himself when he saw Jacob and a few others running towards us. And yet again, a cold shiver went over my spine, because all six of the boys had their hands clenched and they looked ticked off.
I felt slightly nervous around Jacob; after all, he did chase me in a tree while trying to bite my tail off. Then again, I couldn't hold that against him, as I was just a wild animal to him at the time. Instead of worrying what these guys were up to, I decided that this whole scene wasn't worth the worry or stress and I rummaged in my bag, trying to find my roster. Where was that thing?
Ah! There it was! I yanked it out and studied it. Hmm, a double class of music, with an intro to singing. Great, yet another opportunity to make a fool of myself in front of other students. I ignored the voices and shouts of the boys around me while I plucked my agenda out of my bag and filled the rest of the week. Thinking about it, I made a small list of things to buy, like different pencils and paints.
Sifting through my bag again, I drew out some markers to color-code my roster, writing down in my agenda in the corresponding colors so I could plan the rest of the week.
"Who the hell do you think you are?" I heard Jacob ask, almost demand. I glanced up over my agenda and noticed all of them staring at me. Well, actually Jacob was glaring at me with several emotions swirling in his eyes. The most prominent were confusion, distrust and anger. He wasn't looking at my face however; he was running his eyes over my body. Men.
"I'm Paige Walker, his adopted sister," I said while pointing my marker to Nick with a smirk, "I've met Jack in art class, were he saved me from mister Rodriguez," Jack chuckled lightly and I winked at him before continuing, "and I just encountered Tyler, who failed at flirting with me." Tyler became a bright red, staring at his feet while the others gave him amused looks.
Pointing at the two 'Men-in-Black', the guys immediately tensed but I ignored it. "Those two creeps just walked over when Jack was telling about the prank he pulled on Rodriguez, causing these three," I said while looking at Nick, Jack and Tyler, " To jump up to hold a staring contest."
Jacob was staring at me dumbfounded, while I placed my agenda back and looked at the time. Fifteen minutes before the next class. I stood up and walked away towards the school and paused when Jacob shouted, "Where are you going?"
"Class!" I said while waving with the roster. "Some of us are going to school to actually learn a thing or two, you know." I finished, receiving some barely muffled chuckles from Nick and Jack. I noticed that Kale and his friend were staring at the roster in my hand and Kale's friend launched at it.
"Hey!" I said when he snatched it out of my hand. He smirked as he made a show of looking it over, with no intention to give it back. That guy was fast, but then again, so was I. As I made a move to grab my roster back, he went to side-step me, not realizing I had anticipated that and already kicked out my leg for him to trip over.
He crash-landed onto the ground with a grunt and I calmly walked over, picked up my roster a few inches from his fingers and looked over my shoulder to see the guys staring at me.
"How did you do that?" Nick asked, while the others had their mouths hanging open. "Didn't Kath tell you that I'm into free-running?" I asked him and I saw the understanding starting to dawn on the faces around him. "You have to react on your surroundings for that. He acted, I respond," I stated before I walked back at school, ignoring the shouts behind me.
I found my way around school until I was at the class. Still five minutes early, but hey, better that than having to stay around Jacob and those creeps.
---Jacob's POV---
I was still stunned that this girl just mouthed me off and then kicked a hunter to the ground, all in the span of less than five minutes. My confusion quickly turned into anger. Who was she to talk to me like that? I was the next Alpha!
A soft chuckle caused me to glare at Kale, who was staring at Paige's retreating back. "I think I like that girl." He said with a smirk. It immediately caused most of us to growl, for different reasons.
"Stop harassing my pack, Kale!" I growled at him while a slight shiver run over my spine. He just gave me an amused look.
"One; she is clearly not one of your mutts, nor mated to one and two; she just talked-back to you, which is something none of your pack would dare to think of... Which means she's fair game." He smirked at Nick and Tyler who were growling in unison while a few pack members held Jack back.
"Let me go!" he growled.
"Jack, calm down. She won't be harmed." Kris said in a soothing tone.
"Man, is she your mate or something?" I asked Jack, slightly curious to his respond.
He glanced at me while Nick and Tyler gave him looks. "No, she isn't. But she's...special. She won me over after five minutes."
"Three; it's our job to harass you." Kale smiled at me with a cold look in his eyes, bringing me back to his monologue. " And trust me, I will find a way to drive your little pack of mutts out of here and I'll keep your head as a trophy." He said while he motioned at Damon, who was dusting himself off with a ticked-off look in his eyes as he glared at Paige.
They both walked back to the school, immediately followed by a few of my pack members.
"Find out what classes your new sister has. It seems she has attracted unwanted attention." I said to Nick before ordering the rest of the pack to go back to their lessons, while we walked back to the school.
Nick nodded while he looked slightly concerned. He sighed while muttering "Day one and they already want to use her as a way into the pack."
"Hey man, don't worry. We'll keep an eye out for her. As a matter of fact, I've got the same class as her right now." Jack said, causing Nick and me to spin around.
"How do you know that?" I asked him, noticing that we were in the school halls.
"I looked over her roster in our Art-class. She has a double lesson of music and singing now." He shrugged.
Music? Singing? Art? Is she some kind of hippy or something?
Nick glared at him, "Then why are you standing here while she's at the class! Get going before she's kidnapped by those freaks!" he nearly shouted, causing Jack to growl slightly while he ran off.
I glanced at Nick with a smile on my face. "You know that you are whipped by a stranger, even though you have no intention to woe her, nor is she your girlfriend?" I smirked while he turned around. He just glared at me, causing me to laugh. Eventually he joined me while we walked over to class.
"Jack was right, you know. Once you get to know Paige, you realize she's something else." Nick said while we walked into the classroom and took our seats at the back of the class.
I chuckled lightly. Yeah she was something else. Although I refused to let her in the pack just because she's adopted into it, I was wondering if I had made a mistake. She didn't know that I was the next-Alpha; therefor she didn't know that she had to treat me with respect.
But then again, she had guts to stand her ground against nine werewolves and two hunters while she's only human. A good-looking human too; I couldn't help myself when my eyes had dropped down to gaze over her body. She was slender build, with her muscles showing, but not in a bodybuilder- kind of way. She had curves in all the right places and overall, she was good-looking.
That just makes me sound shallow as fuck...
Nick smirked at me while he raised an eyebrow. Crap, I forgot that he could probably hear me through the mind link. I sheltered my thoughts from him, so I could at least enjoy them in peace.
I was only curious to one thing; why did she looked tense and concerned while I was around? She didn't look me in the eye while she talked, she just glanced at me before she looked away. I couldn't remember that I did something wrong to her. Hell, I haven't seen her before.
"Still perving on my sister Jacob?" Nick said in a mocking tone. I rolled my eyes at him.
"I admit that you have a good-looking sister, but I'm not going to stoop down to human-level. Who needs humans when you can have a werewolf mate?" I smirked at him just to piss him off and get off my back.
"And what if your mate happens to be human?" he asked while he seems angry with my sneer towards humans. I snorted at his idiotic suggestion.
"Then I'll find a werewolf who would be a better mate." I stated while I saw his anger rise. "You know that it's an Alpha's job to look after the pack. I can't have a weak mate. A human mate leads to weaker wolves, weaker offspring and a weak Alpha. We can't let that happen."
"Sure, sure, whatever you say." He said in a sarcastic and ticked off tone.
I almost groaned out loud. This was going to be a long day. I just had to make sure that I avoided Paige for the rest of the day.
