A Shadow of Death

Darkness is a living thing

It preys on happiness –

Feeds on fear

It’s smooth, sleek – soft as silk

Disguises itself in warmth –

Easing its way in

Wrapping itself around you

Taking hold of mind – body and soul!

Darkness thrives –

Sucking the strength and fight from you

Leaving just enough for you to re-build upon

Ensuring your survival –

To feed on at its will!

You fight, you struggle

To keep darkness at bay –

But darkness is forever

Darkness will bide its time!

You struggle on regardless

Hiding darkness deep within

To bring it forth – to acknowledge it

Builds its strength and tightens its grip!

You cope, you survive, you exist

But you do not live

Life within darkness isn’t life –

It’s merely a shadow of death!
