Chapter 1: An Unexpected Beginning
Hello fellow readers!!! So...... A bit more about muah, I am a typical farm girl from the state of Tennessee, I LOVEEEEEE books dearly!!! And have many hobbies. Random fact, my favorite color is purquoise, I will leave that to you to figure out what that means. :) Anyways, toodle ooooo.
It was a warm summer evening as Kindle walked briskly down the sidewalk, she had just stepped out of her favorite coffee shop, Momma's Java, they had the best coffee in the city. The slight wind made the blooming crêpe myrtles sway gracefully. Kindle was in completely bliss, the day couldn't have been better. The sun was just setting, the birds were chirping softly, and there was a calm stillness on the city. Kindle took her time walking back to her house. She didn't have to walk very far, because her house was just 10 minutes away from the shop, so it was easy for her to go back and forth between the two locations. When Kindle got home, and opened the door, she realized she was hearing strange creaking noises. She looked around apartment but saw nothing. After Kindle was satisfied, and was determined there was nothing out of place, she set about puttering about the kitchen, as there was not much to do, Kindle took a quick shower. Even though it was shorter, it was still satisfying as the gentle spray eased her body. Midway through her shower, though, Kindle could have sworn she heard someone singing. She felt a little bit more paranoid as these new occurrences in her surroundings shifted to a more eerie feeling. When she had finished, and had changed into a plaid shirt with skinny jeans, Kindle took a glance at her phone, it read half past eight pm. A sudden thought emerged in her head, she was supposed to be going to her friends house that evening. Kindle rushed to finish getting ready, grabbed her keys. On her way out, Kindle took one last gaze over her apartment, and something strange grabbed her attention. A small piece of paper was waving like a white flag. It had been stuck halfway through the window, and the wind sent it flapping like a banner. Kindle walked over to the window and slid the folded piece of paper carefully out of the opening. At first, she couldn't read it, then realizing it was written backwards, she scrambled to her bathroom drawer and held it up to the paper, it read,
"You read this note with glass of reflection,
Look for the clues in that of perfection
But that which you find, do not leave behind,
As you might be tempted with that of the mind.
I give you a small warning so beware of the luring.
There are those of the twin and those within,
With that, I end with the marking of pen."
What was it supposed to mean? The whole thing made no since. Did it have some connection to the noises she was hearing, or was she just going mad? These questions flooded her head, almost making her forget her prior purpose. A vibration went off in her pocket. Mechanically, Kindle drew her phone out of her pocket.
"Ugh, I am going to be late!" she yelled out loud.
She looked out the window that overlooked the city, to the sight and sounds of the unusually busy street traffic down below. Kindle grabbed her purse and ran down the road. Macie's house was close to Kindle's, but she ran fast, and arrived breathless at Macie's front door. Macie opened the door and looked with surprise at her friend, gasping for breath.
"What's wrong, Kindle?" It took a moment for Kindle's heart to stop racing.
"Sorry, I realized I was late and there was a lot of traffic, so I ran all the way here. Also, a few weird things were happening at my house. I was on my way out the door when I saw a piece of paper, here."
Kindle rummaged through her purse and finding what she was looking for, handed the crumpled up paper to Macie. Her friend's eyes scanned over the paper.
"Do you know where it came from?" Macie asked. Kindle shook her head.
"Well, there appears to be some sort of a hint other than the words. Look at the bottom right corner." Macie pointed to a small symbol, barely legible. Kindle had been in such a rush, she hadn't thought to look for any other details. Kindle peered down and saw what Macie had noticed, it was a hawk with a thorn vine twisting around it.
"I wonder what it means?" Macie pondered the mystery in her head.
"The real question is why someone would have written it."
"Well, I say let's not ruin our evening worrying about this." Kindle agreed with a nod. The rest of the evening went well. Macie and Kindle talked about family, school, and of course, boys.
"So, who do you like?" Macie questioned. (This was the question that was asked at practically every girl's sleep over.)
Kindle paused briefly then spoke. "I do like a guy, but I don't think he feels the same way."
"Who is it?"
"Promise you won't tell?"
"Don't worry, I can keep a secret."
"Well, it's Micah."
"Micah Brinston?! He's only like the most popular guy at school. Not to mention the hottest. Isn't he like 17?"
"Yup, he is 4 months older than me." Kindle giggled at her friends over ecstaticness. (Yes, that is probably not a word, but I have my own dictionary, it's called my head)
"I hope that works out okay."
"It probably won't though, because he's Mr. High-and-mighty, and I am just nobody me. But enough of me , I have already said who I like, your turn."
"Ugh, well, I might have a teeny tiny crush on Sam."
"Oooh, Sam from band?"
"Maybe."
Kindle started laughing.
"What, what's so funny? He isn't that bad."
"Nothing, it's just that just yesterday, he told me he had a 'keen liking to you"
"Only he would be the one to say it quite like that," Macie sighed happily with rosy cheeks.
They both burst out laughing. These were her favorite moments. Times with her
best friend. Kindle's watch beeped 11 o'clock am.
"Wow, time passes quickly."
"Yup."
"Well, what do you want to do?"
"Hmm, we could raid my pantry to see if I have anything worth eating while we relax
and watch a movie. Then again, we could just sit around twiddling our thumbs from
boredom."
"I think I like the former better than the latter."
"Okay," Macie smiled in amusement.
Kindle pulled herself up and followed Macie into the kitchen. The normal things
stacked the kitchen wall, pasta, junk food, junk food, and more junk food. Once they
had picked out a few snacky foods, they went to the bonus room to start a movie.
The picked a movie, slid the DVD in, and plopped on the couch. They watched the movie until
they both fell sound asleep on the couch.
(Poor little couch potatoes. I have plenty of excitement for them coming up, oh, it's so pleasant being able to manipulate my characters. *laughs evilly*
So, this is a rather new story that I am working on, hope you enjoy. I will take constructive criticism. :) Though, take it kinda easy, I am new.
Okay, I'll be quiet now.)
