Rain
If Clarke could use one word to describe herself, she knew exactly what it would be: curious. She was a curious soul, and no one could stop that.
The first time the rain came on Earth, Clarke wasn't eve in camp. And still, it was the curiosity buried inside of her that made it appreciate it all the same. Even though she didn't get to revel in it with the whole camp.
The rain came at night then, when she was on her watch. Clarke had turned her face to the treetops and waited for the rain to fall. She had heard the thunder, and knew what came next.
The first drops had made her smile--there in the woods as she kept watch over her companions.
And so Clarke found herself outside the drop ship when it rained again. Clarke had been the first to notice the dark clouds approaching.
"It's going to rain!" She had told Bellamy, who was watching the sky hesitantly.
Thunder roared overhead at her words, as if nature itself was agreeing with her.
"No," Bellamy told her, turning his head to look at her. "It's going to storm."
He was right, of course.
"I'll get everyone inside," Bellamy had said.
Clarke nodded, as the first drops of rain had begun to fall. "I'll be right back."
She had tried to turn away, but Bellamy's hand on her arm stopped her movements. "You're not going out there, Clarke."
She had felt like a small child then, one who was trying to get away with something. "We need to collect it," was her feeble reply.
Bellamy cocked his head to the side. The rain was coming faster now. "Clarke, don't be stupid."
Clarke had almost stayed. The pleading tone of his voice had started something. "Get them inside. I'll be back in ten."
Bellamy had known better than to argue.
And so Clarke found herself outside during the curious thing that was a thunderstorm, pretending to set up collecting buckets.
Really, she was reveling in the way the rain made her feel. Whole.
Her hair clung to her in ringlets, but Clarke barely noticed. She turned her face to the sky and breathed. Let the rain roll down her face.
She hadn't noticed his footsteps. abut all of a sudden, she heard his voice.
"I know you aren't here collecting rain."
She turned. Blinked away the drops of water that had collected on her eyelashes.
The two of them were soaked. Their clothes clung to them like a second skin, and each was trying desperately to ignore that fact.
Clarke focused her eyes on Bellamy's face. There was no need to notice his soaked clothes.
"No," she admitted at last. She paused. "Is that a bad thing?"
Bellamy chuckled. Thunder roared. "Want some company, princess?" He answered her question with one of his own.
Clarke turned the idea over in her mind. At last she spoke. "Do you mind getting wet?"
Bellamy laughed, the noise echoing off the forest and landing straight in her pounding heart. "I'm already soaked, princess."
Was that his hand reaching out to her?
Was that a smile on his lips?
Was that her heart, beating so loudly?
Was that her, taking his hand and letting him lead her to sit?
Of course it was.
Somehow, as the rain continued to pour, Bellamy's arm ended up around her shoulders. Clarke didn't mind. She leaned into him, their soaked, chilled bodies pressed against one another's.
The rain came in torrents. The buckets Clarke had put out were flowing over.
"Why did you come out here, in the first place?" She asked him, looking up at his wet face.
He squeezed her, pulling her closer still. "Someone has to keep an eye on you."
Clarke hummed and nodded into his shoulder. Somehow, in that moment, she reached up and kissed his wet cheek.
Bellamy smiled.
---
When the rain came next, Clarke found herself again outside the drop ship, in Bellamy's arms.
"Why'd you come this time?" She asked into his shoulder. "You know I can take care of myself."
Bellamy chuckled. "Of course I know that." He paused. "Maybe I just decided I like the rain."
He loosened his grip on her, so she could see his smirk.
Suddenly, Bellamy kissed her cheek. Clarke fought off a smile.
---
When the rain came again, Clarke didn't ask Bellamy why he had come.
Bellamy didn't reply.
Their lips were otherwise engaged.
AN: I hope you enjoyed this one-shot I wrote. I was gong to write one that happened in present day, but then I thought of this one, which occurs before the Ark came down.
Basically, when everything was kind of okay. Lol.
I am planning on writing a one-shot that occurs in the present day sometime soon. Nevertheless, I would love to hear what my readers would like to read.
That being said, if you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!
