Chapter 27: Reaper Time Pt. 2

"Aw, shucks. Well that certainly throws a monkey wrench in my plan," The Reaper said, looking at his phone. All the students gasped.

"Mr. Karasuma and Koro-sensei!" Hara exclaimed.

"But I thought he was in Brazil for that big soccer game," Nakamura added.

"So be it," The Reaper said, closing his phone. "Plan 16." He looked over at me. "Actually, make that 16.5."

The two of them walked out, leaving us trapped.

After a few minutes of silence and very muffled talking, the ceiling to the cell opened and Koro-sensei literally dropped in. The students gathered around him.

"Hello class, I trust you're all unhurt," Koro-sensei said. "Uh, Shiniko, why aren't you in the cell like the rest of the class?"

"How the hell am I supposed to know," I lied. "I got knocked out and when I awoke I was handcuffed."

"No offence, sir, but I can't believe he caught you," Maehara pointed out.

"Huh, the bars are forged of anti-me material I see," Koro-sensei touched the bar and a tip of his tentacle melted off.

"Tricky stuff to work around to be sure, but you'll be thrilled to know my body has at last overcome it."

Koro-sensei glowed red like he was really gonna destroy the cell in a second.

"Behold boys and girls, my top secret weapon: the tongue!" Koro-sensei started to lick the bar like a dog. All the students were quite disappointed.

"Excuse me, not to interrupt," The Reaper came back with Irina and Karasuma. "But if you want their neck braces to explode, then by all means keep licking," The Reaper warned, and jumped down from the entrance.

"Okay, let's get on with it." He walked towards the cell. "This room is about to be flooded. We are in a drainage canal. When I send the signal to the control room above, water will come gushing in at 200 PSI per second, and these bars will essentially become a giant noodle press."

No wonder this place smells like shit...

"Hold on, you're not gonna do that with the kids still in there!" Karasuma exclaimed.

"Of course I am, it's too late to wait," The Reaper confirmed.

Wait, what...

"Irina, you knew this would happen didn't you?" Karasuma asked.

"I'm sorry, results are the only priority here. You wanted professionalism," she stated.

Karasuma was in a dilemma for a few seconds, until making his move.

"Here's the government's official stance," he stated and socked The Reaper's face.

Oof...

"If these kids are no more than collateral damage, I'm going to shut you down," Karasuma took off his coat.

"You tell'em Mr. K!" the students cheered.

"FYI Irina, a true professional gives a damn about the bigger picture," he said to her.

Just then, The Reaper took off, and Karasuma followed.

Irina took off the collar with ease, "Karasuma may stand apart from the herd, but The Reaper goes further." she started to twirl the neck brace around her finger. "Exhibit A: he trapped the octopus."

Then, what's exhibit B?...

Irina got a message from The Reaper on her earpiece, which was unnoticeable due to it being covered by her lovely, blonde locks. She took out her revolver and left.

Well, I guess it's time for me to leave as well...

"Koro-sensei, do you mind helping me get out of these handcuffs?" I asked.

"Oh yes, of course!" he came over and crushed the handcuffs with his teeth.

"Thanks." Then, I removed the explosive collar around my neck

"How did you...?" Terasaka asked dumbfounded, and everyone stared.

"Magic." I gave a quick, short answer with jazz hands and rushed out the entrance.

I caught up with Irina by heading towards the sound of a gunshot.

"Mind your aim, Irina," The Reaper commented from the other side.

"Oh don't worry, my next shot will definitely land," Irina assured.

"You're gonna die. You know it," Karasuma stated, holding his gun at the shooting position.

"Believe me, I'm more than prepared. I don't expect you to understand that, but some people can relate. The Reaper, Shiniko, and I are cut from the same cloth," Irina said, holding up her gun.

"She's right," The Reaper confirmed. "Do you know what I was before I was called to this work? A scared kid living moment to moment in a war zone, where every second, every breath promised to be my last. A place that taught me that you can only rely on three things: skill, money, and death. Shiniko, Irina and I know what it is to be nurtured on blood and darkness."

Not exactly, but sure...

The roof collapsed with the push of a button.

"Oh yeah, and what it means to be a pon," The Reaper finished.

Shit.

After the collapse, Karasuma was the first one out of there. I slowly, but surely crawled out of the rubble with minor scrapes.

Damn, was that lucky or what...

"Shame you're not in a position to chase me. Full disclosure, I only enlisted your associates as a decoy," The Reaper revealed. He took off to who knows where.

"No!" Karasuma shouted before taking off.

"Karasuma!" I shouted and at the same time Koro-sensei could be heard on his transceiver.

While Karasuma was talking to Koro-sensei and the class, I tried to get Irina out of the rubble, but it was more difficult than I thought.

Damn... I guess that's my limit...

At last, Karasuma made up his mind and helped me hold up the giant piece of rubble.

"Well don't just lie there, damn it. We can't hold this much longer," Karasuma stated.

Irina got up and out of the rubble, and took a seat on the ground.

"Your left arm's most likely fractured," I inspected. I got a metal rod from the ground. "Anything I can use as a substitute for bandages?"

"Here," Karasuma ripped his shirt and passed it to me.

Man's fuckin' ripped, god damn...

"Thanks," I took it and started to tie the rod to Irina's arm.

"Anywhere else you feel pain or discomfort?" Karasuma asked.

Right after asking the question, Irina had a nosebleed.

"Hey, you're bleeding!" Karasuma exclaimed with concern.

"I'm fine," Irina assured. "Seeing you shirtless just has me hot and bothered, that's all."

After seeing that, who wouldn't...

"I was worried there might be some head trauma. It's good to know there's a status quo for you," Karasuma deadpanned.

"He's back," I informed the two, as I felt the eerie presence of The Reaper return.

"The kids figured he would be," Karasuma added and stood up. "Listen to me, E Class is a far cry from the world you grew up in, but, what the hell, I'll come right out and say it; o-our world really needs you." Then, he took off.

The Reaper appeared a moment later.

"Irina, Fallen Light, where's Karasuma?" he asked.

"No idea, he was already gone when we came too. Pretty underhanded stunt by the way, did you have to try and kill us too?" Irina responded.

"Sorry, it couldn't be helped. My hands were tied, couldn't make an omelet and all that. There may be honor among thieves, but assassins travel in deception."

"What do I care? Who am I to talk? I'm just a bitch who switches from one man to another," Irina held up her fractured arm and smiled.

Karasuma took The Reaper by surprise and put him in a waist lock, and jumped down further in the sewage system.

Jesus crust, I hope he doesn't die...

I turned on the small built-in camera I had custom made into my gear to record everything before I jumped down after them. I saw The Reaper break free of Karasuma's hold just before they got to the bottom.

"Don't get me wrong, your skills are on point. you just don't have any endgame strategy. Huh?" Karasuma noticed a mask floating in the water. I followed his line of sight and saw it as well.

"You certainly dressed me down," The Reaper said after getting up and boy was his face not human.

How...

"Faces are a handicap in this business. It's much easier to customize disguises without one," he explained. "Your's will make a delightfully rugged one for my wardrobe."

The Reaper and Karasuma continued to battle. I kept my distance with my camera still rolling.

"I feel like I should tell you Mr. Karasuma. I might have overstated the tragic circumstances of my childhood. As a matter of fact, I might have made the entire thing up," The Reaper admitted.

"When I was just a boy, an assassin killed my father. I wasn't particularly torn up about it, however, seeing the way his killer moves, so swift, so sure, it did give me something to think about. I said to myself, 'what beautiful skill'." The Reaper dropped his blades and pulled out a rose from God knows where.

"I was captivated. In that moment, I knew, assassination is high art." The Reaper threw the rose into the air. "And the culmination of that art..." he made a finger gun with his hand, "Let me show you."

A tiny bullet shot out of The Reaper's finger and shot Karasuma in the heart.

Aannnd, he's been shot... Ain't that fantastic...

With a bullet that small this can't end well...

The Reaper went on with explaining his hidden weapon, or scythe, as he likes to call it. As if on cue, after he was done explaining blood came gushing out from Karasuma's chest.

Oh, and what is this? Is that... Is that a very visible, yellow tentacle behind Mr. K?

I noticed it coming from behind Karasuma.

Karasuma dropped to his knees and The Reaper walked closer, assuming he's nearly dead. Once he was close, he noticed the tentacle.

Karasuma took this opportunity, and kicked him in the most sensitive area known to men; the crotch.

The Reaper jumped back as he held his area, as it is now in pain. Karasuma held the tentacle out of the way as he stood up.

Hahaa... serves you right for the wrong you've done...

"Nice to see The Reaper has the same weak spots as everyone else," he said as the 'blood' was still gushing from the tentacle.

"Sorry friend, you screwed up. Messing with my students and my colleague is a bad idea," Karasuma stated firmly.

"Wait! Who else can conceivably kill him if not me?" The Reaper asked in pain and possibly anger.

"You'd be surprised at what a classroom full of motivated kids can accomplish," Karasuma said before completely knocking out The Reaper.

I went back to the cell to free everyone. When I got there, I kicked the cell door open and left. Once everyone was together again, we circled around The Reaper.

How did he do that to his face? Even his nose is missing...

I was in deep thought as I took a closer inspection, but snapped out of it when Koro-sensei placed a tentacle on my head.

I looked up, only to see Irina sneaking off barefooted. The class chased after her, it was a short chase.

Once Yoshida and Muramatsu got a hold of her, she started spewing out random nonsense.

"Just shut up and come back to school tomorrow like always. No more takin' off for days at a time," Terasaka exclaimed. Some of the other students tried to persuade her to stay.

"They're right, you know," Karasuma said, holding up the rose that The Reaper threw. "For you, and before you ask, nobody put me up to this. Consider it taken from a vanquished enemy in your honour. Happy birthday, sorry if I'm a little late."

Irina accepted the gift, "It's lovely."

They were so happy, but Kurahashi was on the down side. Thankfully because of this, no one questioned me about anything, yet.

I can feel it though... The tension between us when I freed them... Even now, it feels like their eyes are always on me...

Who knows, maybe they do suspect something or they're just not willing to ask, knowing I won't give them a proper answer anyways...

Koro-sensei told Karasuma he doesn't want something similar happening again where the students are in danger.

We were all taken home safely that night and the next day everything seemed to go back to normal.
