Beep, beep, beep...

Someone slammed on the alarm and it stopped beeping.

"Shiniko...wake uuupppp," Shuu mumbled.

"...It's a school day...isn't it..." I mumbled back.

"Yup..."

"Ugghhhh..." I groaned.

"Sheesh, I get it, you're smart, now get out of my room we need to get ready!" He pushed me off his bed and I landed with a quiet thud.

I dragged my feet out of Shuu's room and back into mine.

As I left, I remembered that today was my first day of school, and just the thought of it immediately charged me with energy.

When I got into my room, I noticed a uniform on the bed.

Hmm... This must be the school uniform... Uncle Asano must've put it here last night...

I got dressed, the uniform fitting perfectly.

Aannnd done!

I caught a whiff of a sweet aroma when I opened the door. I went downstairs to the kitchen and dining room, and saw Uncle Asano making pancakes.

"Good morning, Uncle Asano!" I said cheerfully.

"Good morning, Shiniko, just sit down for now, Im almost finished."

"Ok!"

"Something smells good! Mornin' dad!" Shuu said as he entered.

"Morning."

"Shiniko, how did you get here so fast?!" Shuu exclaimed.

"I'm excited for school, duh."

"Right...hehe." he laughed awkwardly.

"Pancakes done! Enjoy!" Uncle Asano set the pancakes on their plates.

"Thanks!" me and Shuu said at the same time.

As usual, after breakfast, everyone got their bags and left for school.

"So, what did you do on Sunday?" Uncle Asano asked.

~Flashback~

It was Sunday morning, so of course everyone slept in. Except for Uncle Asano, he had to run errands all day.

Shuu woke up first and started to study. I woke up to the sound of pages flipping and a moving chair, so I decided to see where it was coming from.

I found the room where the sounds were coming from, I knocked on the door which startled Shuu.

"...Come in."

After getting permission, I slowly opened the door, only to find him at his desk with a stack of books.

"Shuu...make some food I'm hungry~..."

He sighed before replying, "Alright, alright, what do you want to eat?"

"Uummm...how 'bout...eggs and bacon?" 

"Ok...."

"Yay!"

Shuu sighed once again and got started.

"Thanks for the meal! It was delicious!" I complimented.

"No problem... So now what do you want to do?" he asked.

"Uummm...how about we play games all day and read before bedtime?" I suggested.

"Sure!"

"Shuu~...I'm hungry, make some dinner..." I said as I got hungry again.

"What do you want to eat then?" he asked.

"I don't care as long as I get something to eat..."

He sighed, "Just go take a bath, when you're done, so will the food."

"Kay!" I said happily, knowing I was able to get a taste of Shuu's cooking again.

"That was soooo yummy! Your cooking is the best! Teach me how to cook someday, Ok?" I asked energetically after finishing the meal.

"Thank you! And of course I'll teach you how to cook! And that's a promise." Shuu promised.

"Yay!"

"Go read some books now, I gotta clean."

I went into Shuu's room and stared at the bookshelf.

What should I read tonight?...

I chose a book and started reading.

"So what did you choose for the books this time?" Shuu asked when he came in.

I showed him the book covers.

"Those are good books."

We continued to read until we fell asleep. As always, I fell asleep first.

At that time, Uncle Asano came home and found them sleeping on each other again, so he tucked them in and left Gakushuu's room.

~End of Flashback~

"Sounds like you guys had lots of fun."

"Mhmm!" I hummed.

"Yup!"

"Just in time, we're here. Gakushuu, take care of Shiniko and both of you try to behave."

"Sure."

"Ok Uncle Asano!"

"Dad didn't tell you this, but we have to try to be the best in everything, and right now I'm first out of all the first graders." Shuu said as we were walking towards the building.

"Well that shouldn't be that hard, after all I have you to help me, right?" I asked.

"Yeah, you do," he reassured.

When we entered the classroom, it was filled with chatter.

"Hey, did you know we're getting a new student?"

"No, do you think that's her?"

"If she's new, why is she walking with Asano?"

"Maybe she got lost and he helped her."

Shuu took me to meet the teacher, "Sensei, this is Shiniko, she's the new student." he introduced.

"It's nice to meet you, Shiniko. Where would you like to sit?" she asked.

"Can I sit at the back next to the window?" I asked quietly.

"Why would you sit there when you could sit next to me?" Shuu asked.

"What's wrong with sitting in the back?" I retorted.

Shuu just sighed in defeat.

"There's nothing wrong with sitting at the back. In fact, there's an empty desk right there you can sit at," she pointed to the seat. "Do you want me to introduce you to the class?" the teacher asked.

"Ok."

"Class, listen up, we have a new student." Everyone took their seats. "This is Shiniko, please be nice and welcome her into our class."

"Hi Shiniko!" The class greeted with smiles and waves. I waved back awkwardly.

"Alright class, settle down. You can take your seat now, Shinko."

During break, all the students got up and gathered around my desk to introduce themselves. They were all very friendly.

I was starting to get overwhelmed by all the attention, but I kept calm.

Gakushuu didn't really do much, except studying. Until, his friends: Ren Sakakibara, Teppai Araki, Tomoya Seo, and Natsuhiku Koyama, also known as the top five, gathered around his desk and started asking questions.

"Hey Asano, why did you walk into class with the new girl, Shiniko?" Sakakibara questioned.

"She's my sister, well adopted sister, and it turns out she might be smarter than me," he answered calmly, not taking his eyes off his book.

"W-what!?!!" The group looked over at Shiniko in shock.

"Shocking, I know."

"Class, take your seats, break's over. The lesson is going to begin," the teacher announced.

During the lesson, I paid attention, until I realized I already learned about the math lesson and started on the homework.

After I was done, there was nothing else to do. Everyone else was still working, so I gazed out the window and of course fell asleep again.

"Shiniko!" the teacher yelled.

"Hmm..." was all I could say in my shaken, half asleep state.

"Please pay attention."

"But I finished the work already..." I said as I handed the work to the teacher.

"H-how...and the answers they're all right!" The teacher was shocked as she scanned the sheet.

With that said, I went back to sleep, but was woken up later with the sound of loud chattering and a thud on the table.

"...Huh?" I lifted my head and looked up, blinded by the lights.

"It's lunch time, here," Shuu said and pushed the lunch towards me.

"Thanks," I mumbled.

There was some whispering between some female students nearby.

"Who do you think Shiniko is?!? Getting lunch from Asano! Ugh, I'm so jealous!"

"Yeah, who does she think she is!" Another girl emphasized her question. "I have an idea, we should pretend to be her best friends to get closer to Asano!"

"Good idea! Let's go."

They walked over to Shiniko.

"Hey~, Shiniko! You wanna eat lunch with us?" they asked with fake smiles on.

"Ugh..." I looked over at Shuu. He nodded and joined the rest of the big five. "Sure!"

And thus a new 'friendship' was born.
