Chapter 24: End-of-Term Time

Finals were coming up, and Koro-sensei's been tutoring the students during his free time outside. He explained how every time one of his tentacles got chopped off, his speed decreases by 10%.

"Those of you who get the highest scores on your finals, and or the best ranking in each individual subject are vouch safe the right to obliterate exactly one tentacle a piece." He proposed, making all the students gasp. "This is how we do finals here, boys and girls. This is  the assassination classroom. Ask yourself: are you prepared to inch ever closer to the grand prize?"

"Guess that's his way of motiving us," She thought and continued studying on her branch.

Later on in class, Sugino got a call from Shindo. He told them that A Class was having a study session in one of the conference rooms lead by "The Big Five". He started announcing who they are in a bizarre way, Shindo told them he always wanted to become an announcer.

"The man with a genetic disposition to lead. Student council president, Gakushu Asano." Shindo finished.

"The principal's only son," Sugino added.

"There's also a girl named, Shiniko Kuroshira. She got 100 on all subjects on midterms, taking top spot," Shindo added.

"Yeah, we know. She's in our class," Sugino informed, as they kept on talking.

As Kayano, Karma, Nagisa and Shiniko were walking out of school Isogai jogged out the building.

"Hey guys, wait up." Isogai said catching up to them.

"What's goin' on?" Nagisa asked.

"You guys wanna hit the books at the main campus library tomorrow after class?" He asked, "I reserved us a spot. Actually I've been holding onto this for while. Normally, we're dead last on the waiting list, so this little miracle is like a platinum ticket."

"Count us in!" Kayano, Nagisa and Shiniko exclaimed, Karma yawned and strolled away.

"Me too!" Nakamura joined in.

As planned, the next day after class, Isogai, Nakamura, Okuda, Nagisa, Kayano, Kanzaki, and Shiniko were in the library studying. Everyone was studying the material for the exams, but Shiniko. Like, it's not a surprise anymore since she's a smart-ass. She was studying at her own level, which was far from being even close to junior high level.

"Well, look at that. It's the E Class crew." Araki said with the rest of the Big Five behind him, excluding Asano. "Why even bother? This place is wasted on you. Pearls before swine, as the saying goes."

"How cute. They're studying. Hey scrubs, play times over. The big kids need their spot." Seo said making the shooing action with his hand.

"Hey, do you mind?!" Kayano's book fell onto the table, revealing a book about pudding, "We're tryin' to fill our heads with knowledge!" Kayano blurted out loud.

"Well what do we have here, fellas? Are the hard-luck cases deifying their upperclassmen? I mean, I knew they were stupid, but this is a new low." Koyama smack talked.

"Hey, he said these were ours!" Okuda exclaimed.

"What?!" Koyama blurted.

"You're not the only ones allowed to have good grades. Everyone has a right to them if they work hard! Try bossing us around when we kick you're butts on the finals!" Okuda defended.

"Not everyday you see this side of Okuda, huh?" Shiniko thought as she was studying, not caring about the argument, but still listening.

"You sure have some gol talking to me like that you little twerp! And nice glasses by the way, they make you look like a total nerd." Koyama insulted, "Ha! Am I right?" He turned to Araki.

"Koyama." Shiniko said, not looking away from her book, getting their attention, "You have glasses too." Koyama didn't say anything since she was right and because he knew who she was.

"Don't be so quick to judge," Sakakibara said, playing with some of both Kanzaki and Shiniko's hair. "Look at them. Oh my, pearls before swine indeed." Shiniko pushed his hand away and his attention went to Kanzaki, "Hey there, something tells me you're the sort of woman who get her thrills from a sonnet. You make me wonder if my standers aren't too high."

"Um, could you get out of my ear, please?" Kanzaki asked politely, but he kept talking.

Koyama darted his eyes to each student. "Oops, sorry. Turns out these aren't you're everyday dumbasses! They actually have some academic chops." He said knocking Okuda's head with the back of his fist.

"Well as long as we're all here, why not make it even more interesting and wager those chops against stakes higher than bragging rights? Whoever scores lower has to do what the other class says. Sound fun?" Araki said with his hand on Isogai's head.

Seo walked over to Nagisa and used his shoulder as an armrest, "C'mon, don't be a wuss. Where the hell's that attitude all of a sudden? If you wanted to, we'd even put our lives on the line."

Out of instinct, everyone got the closest item and held it less than a centimetre away from the Big Five's eye or neck, frightening them, "I'd be more careful betting my life if I were you." Shiniko said and walked out.

The Big Five scurried out of the library back to their class. Shiniko hide her presence and stood in the corner by the entrance/exit of Class A.

"Uh, I know it was stupid, but... Look, I was only tryin' to make a point, okay? C'mon, I never thought they'd actually take us up on it." Seo explained the situation to Asano who looked irritated.

"It's alright, you're not in trouble. In fact, this might be a good way to inspire A Class. But for now, let us focus on clarifying the terms. We don't want confusion down the road. I propose the winners be allowed only one demand, to be specified after finals are done." He stated.

"Not to rock the boat, but seriously only one?" Koyama questioned.

"Yeah. Not a lot we can do with that." Sakakibara added.

Asano opened up his laptop, then started typing with one hand like a madman. Within less than a minute, he had finished. When he showed the Big Five the contract, they were all shocked. He started to summarize what he had written.

Shiniko went back to the library and told them what A Class was up to, they were surprised that a single demand could consist of fifty clauses.

During class, Koro-sensei had a "Special Enhanced Lesson". Everyone was studying, except Karma, he was sleeping with his book over his face.

"Blasted all, Karma. Wake up and get with the program!" A red Koro-sensei scolded at the lazy redhead. "Apply yourself for heaven sake! You could get the best over all score."

"Calm down, Teach." He said, lifting his book up a little, "You and I both know I'm gonna do fine. My laziness is a credit to your study method. We can both afford to relax, you especially right now. I mean, look at yourself, you're starting to come off as a regular teacher: uptight and boring." He said and Koro-sensei stopped. "We've already got a plan of attack, right? You should have a little more faith in it. Are you that worried about A Class winning this?"

"Still, you should study. A Class won't back down from a challenge. Keep up this laziness of yours and you won't even be able to beat out Asano for top spot. Your score might even lower than you'd expect." Shiniko stated never leaving her eyes from her book.

"Correct," Koro-sensei had a circle on his face. "But how about this," He started and went to the front of the class, "I say we force them to relinquish their pride and joy." He held up the school pamphlet. When he turned it to the front everyone gasped. "You're already, well acquainted with being the low men on the totem pole. But I want you to experience what's it like to fight ones way, to the nail, all the way to the top. An assassin aims high to bring his target low." He explained and continued to help the class.

During the evening, both Asano and Asano Jr. weren't home. Shiniko sneaked into the main campus and went into the A Class classroom, where she knew her brother would be. Shiniko went behind him, who was currently working on his computer. She grabbed him by the shoulders making him twitch and turn around.

"Oh, it's just you," He said feeling relieved, "What're you doing here?" He asked.

"You guys weren't home, so I figured this was where you might've been," She answered.

"Hey, can I ask you something regarding E Class?" He asked and Shiniko nodded, "What's up about it?"

Shiniko knew he was suspicious about it, he never did stop asking her about it, "The only thing up about it is..." She looked down and stayed quiet.

"Go on," He anticipated.

"Is... Our grades, when we beat you tomorrow!" She answered cheerfully, as to not conjure up any more suspicion.

"Alright then. Well, I'm finished here, should we get going?" He asked.

"Yeah!" Shiniko said with joy.

The usual stuff happened when they got home: make dinner, shower, study and get ready for bed.

The next day, Nagisa, Nakamura and Shiniko were walking to their designated classroom they're taking the finals in. They ran into two of Nagisa's former classmates who were talking about the bet they made with A Class, so Nakamura took both her pencils, stuck it into the student's nostrils and pulled up, causing him to bleed out a river.

When they arrived at the class, an unfamiliar face was sitting at one of the desks.

"Who's that?" Nakamura and Nagisa questioned.

"Ritsu's proxy." Karasuma answered, leaning against the doorframe. "The principal said an AI taking the finals was against protocol. Hey, at least the man was okay letting us use a stand-in. Ever have to deal with him giving you that look. You know the one, right? It's so... I don't know, it's like he can't even be bothered to pity you." He ranted.

"Anyway, Ritsu and I have a little message for you guys: Do your best." He wished them the best of luck.

"You got it." Nagisa said confidently.

When the bell rang, the finals began.
