Chapter 19: L and R Time
Today, Irina was teaching one of her English lessons that she taught Shiniko. The art of conversation.
"Icebreakers like this guarantee a good first impression. The trick is to put yourself in the shoes of your target." Irina informed, "Kimura, throw me an icebreaker, quick!"
"Uh. Hey, there?" He said unsure of himself.
"No, no!" Irina said, making the 'X' symbols with her fingers, " You're just shifting the burden of conversation." She pointed out his mistake, "If you want a meaningful response, the other person has to feel you're pulling your own weight. Try coming at them guns blazing with an interesting observation" She explained.
"Shiniko, give my an icebreaker." She said.
"How are you doing today, miss?" Shiniko answered almost immediately.
"Good." She praised and continued the lesson.
After school was over, Shiniko stayed behind in the faculty lounge to eat her ice cream in peace while the teachers were conversing with each other. Then Irina stormed out.
All of a sudden, Shiniko heard a gasp, followed by a yelp and rushed out the door, leaving her ice cream behind. Big mistake, Koro-sensei ate it all. When she got out, she saw Irina in a snare trap.
"You catch me off guard, Irina." Someone said, getting Irina and Shiniko's attention, "Watching you babysit bunch of kids. It's like TV comedy show." He stated.
"Lovro sensei..." Shiniko murmured.
"Sir. Why are you here?" Irina asked, still struggling.
Then Karasuma showed up. He told Lovro to let Irina down, which he did. Karasuma was getting a sense of déjà vu that he already met Lovro before, but it was just him. Lovro told him who he was and what he does.
"As matter of fact, I'm the guy who arranged to bring Irina Jelavich into the mix. I'm human resources man." Karasuma went silent for a bit.
"I'm human resources man!" Shiniko repeated in her mind while mentally laughing to herself and helped Irina up.
Lovro told Irina that she can pack her bags and go because he was going to take it from here.
"Don't get me wrong: on undercover jobs, you're the best. Once your cover's been blown, however. Well, let's face it, you're no Charlotte Corday." Lovro stated.
Irina begged Lovro to let her stay, but then Lovro swiftly grabbed Irina's wrist behind her back and held his thumb at her neck.
"What have I always taught you? Everyone has their strengths and their weaknesses. A good assassin knows when to go home." He said.
Then out of nowhere, Koro-sensei came up behind them with his face half purple and orange? Or is it red? I don't remember.
"Congratulations! You're exactly half wrong and half right." He said, as he pried the two apart with his tentacles. One on Lovro's forehead, the other on Irina's nose. Then Karasuma gave him a new nickname, "Game Show", "Are you determined never to call me Koro-sensei?" He asked.
He continued by saying Irina was a crappy assassin, but she's a perfect fit in the class. To prove his point, he proposed a kill-off. The rules were whoever can kill Karasuma first with an anti-sensei knives, is the winner, but they only had all of tomorrow to compete.
"Can I join, for the fun of it all?" Shiniko asked.
"Of course!" Koro-sensei gladly allowed and Shiniko left.
The next day during PE, Karasuma told the class that there will be a few interruptions, but they should just ignore it. Then Irina started to slowly run over to Karasuma with this so called "Ice-cold beverage".
"Probably some sort of muscle relaxant. Immobilize and stab, oldest trick in the books." Karasuma said.
"C'mon Irina, he's not stupid," Shiniko said from the stairs she was sitting on, that lead down the the field, and got up and went somewhere else.
From where she was, she watch what Irina did next. She was setting the drink on the ground and pretended to fall, then she started whining at Karasuma to give her a piggyback ride.
"Have some self-respect. This is sad." Shiniko heard Lovro from below and hung upsode down from a branch so she would be next to him.
"Talk about it." Shiniko said startling Lovro and went back inside the building.
She saw Karasuma come in and she flew up to the ceiling, and stayed in the air until it was the right moment to strike. Then Koro-sensei started talking with Karasuma.
"Perfect. Two birds with one stone." Shiniko thought as she smiled to herself and quietly lowered herself down.
"Exhilarating being the kill-ee, isn't it?" She heard Koro-sensei asked.
"Oh, it's a barrel of laughs. Wait a second..." Karasuma said.
That's when Shiniko made her move. She folded her wing up, allowing her to fall, but before getting to the ground, she poked Karasuma in the back, making him turn around. At the same time, she threw two anti-sensei knives at Koro-sensei, successfully taking out two of his tentacles. Before Koro-sensei could even notice his tentacles are missing, Shiniko swooped down and cut off all his bottom tentacles. Koro-sensei started to panic as his two tentacle arms regenerated.
The two teachers were staring at her.
"Congratulations, Shiniko, you're the first one to 'kill' me" Karasuma said.
"Thanks, and Koro-sensei, I won't kill you alone. There's a lot I need to discuss with this class as well as the teachers. By the way, next time you want my food just ask." Shiniko stated and walked off.
Later that day, when everyone was in class, Shiniko sneaked off into the staff room. It was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. Irina was in deep thought, Karasuma was working, and Koro-sensei was in there too.
Then, the door slammed open and Lovro came charging in at Karasuma with the anti-sensei knife in hand.
"He's taking him head-on?!" Irina and Shiniko both thought.
Karasuma grabbed Lovro's wrist and crashed it into the table, making him drop the knife.
"That's gonna leave a mark." Shiniko thought.
In one swift movement, Karasuma's knee was right in front of Lovro's face, shocking him.
"You've got skill, but frankly the years haven't been kind." Karasuma picked up the knife with his free hand, "Until recently, I was in the Elite Special Force." He stated, Lovro and Irina stared at him, speechless.
"Hey, wanna win?" He said pointing the knife at Irina, "Step up your game. You've only got today." He said, causing Irina and Koro-sensei to scream. "FYI: with a good knife, I can strike five times in a second. So, should be fun." He said before leaving with a mischievous smile.
Shiniko looked over at Lovro to see that he's hurt.
"Lovro sensei, you're hurt." Shiniko exclaimed and Irina gasped.
"I suppose I can't expect to kill today in this condition," Lovro stated and Koro-sensei gasped, and got into a cheerleader uniform and tried to motivate him. Shiniko secretly took a picture of the dressed up octopus.
When Lovro left, Shiniko left with him, "Lovro sensei, do you need any help with your injury? It looks quite bad." Shiniko offered to help.
"If you don't mind helping, that would be great." He accepted her offer and they went to the infirmary.
Shiniko got a gel pack from the freezer and gave it to Lovro to put on his injury. Then, she looked through the cabinets to find the gauze. When her back was turned, Lovro noticed the 'wing design' on the back of her shirt twitch a little when she was digging in the cabinets.
"Are the wings real?" Lovro asked, still holding the gel pack on the, now less swollen injury.
"That was something I wanted to tell you," Shiniko said and stopped searching and turning around. "But you mustn't tell anyone. Yes, they are in fact real." She said letting then loose, shocking Lovro once again, leaving him speechless.
She flew up slightly and continued her search for the gauze, finding it with ease this time. She finished helping Lovro with his injury and left.
When she went back to the class, she joined Karma, Nagisa and Kayano. They were having lunch, until Karma mentioned that Karasuma was eating outside and Kayano added that he's been eating outside a lot.
Shiniko looked out the window to see Irina standing by him with an anti-sensei knife, it looked like they were going to 'chat' for awhile. Then, Irina took off her coat and dropped it on the ground. Shiniko smiled knowing what's 'bout to go down.
"What're you smilin' 'bout?" Karma asked.
"Oh, nothing," Shiniko replied.
Irina went around behind the tree, then she sprinted out and her coat was attached to Karasuma's leg, pulling him flat on the ground. The second before, he could process what was going on Irina was on top of him, panting from exhaustion. She was about to stab him, but Karasuma grabbed on to her hands to prevent it from happening.
"When it comes to strength, and heck even stamina, the woman's hopeless," Shiniko thought as she heard a few comments from the guys.
After awhile, Karasuma just gave up and let her land the knife on him. The whole class cheered. Then, she saw Lovro walk up to Irina and said a few things, after that, Irina started laughing. Before lunch was over, Karasuma and Koro-sensei went back to the staff room, only to find a suit of armour.
"Hey! The hell's with the suit of armour?" Karasuma asked angrily.
"Nothing in our little bet prohibited basic self-defense." Koro-sensei answered.
After school, Nagisa, Karma and Shiniko overheard that Koro-sensei was going to see the new Sonic Ninja film that released in Hawaii and their faces lit up.
When Koro-sensei was about to leave, the three students ran out of the building.
"Koro-sensei! Wait up!" Nagisa shouted, "We want to come with you. Please?" He asked.
"Oh-ho! Fans of the franchise?" Koro-sensei asked.
"Oh, yeah. We've been waiting for the sequel, for, like, ever." Nagisa answered.
"I'm a little surprised you're into comic books, Karma." Koro-sensei said to Karma.
"It's actually not my thing." Karma stated, playing with his hair, "I really dig the director, though. It's his first genre film." He said, avoiding eye contact.
"And what about you, Shiniko?" Koro-sensei asked.
"My friend recommended the comic to me, and I really liked it," Shiniko answered.
"I'd like to come, too. If you don't mind. I hope I'm not bothering you." A familiar voice said and Nagisa pulled out his phone with Ritsu on it.
"Um. No offense, Ritsu, but what are you doing in my phone?" Nagisa asked.
"I took the liberty of uploading myself into everybody's mobile devices." She said happily.
"Aw, shit. Does that mean she knows..." Shiniko though as she started to get anxious.
"This way communication between students is streamlined, and I'm fun-sized! This version of me is called Mobile Ritsu!" She exclaimed, "Ah! Shiniko, I didn't know that you had con-"
"Don't say it! Don't tell anyone what you know, please!" Shiniko exclaimed with worry.
"As you wish. If it's not too much trouble, I'd love to know what's it like soaring through the air at Mach twenty. I can even take aerial photos for Koro-sensei's dossier!" She said.
"Well then, children, let's go to the movies!" Koro-sensei exclaimed, "Brace yourself for a flight through the stratosphere at super-sonic speed!" He said cheerfully and picked up the three students and used his uniform as a pocket to insure their safety.
"Okay. I know we asked him on a whim, but I'm kinda having second thoughts. What'd we just signed on for?" Nagisa asked worriedly.
"Yeah, well. If we survive, maybe next time we'll think of safety first." Karma said.
"Come on, it's Koro-sensei we're talkin' 'bout, he won't let us get hurt," Shiniko said.
"That's right, I'll accelerate gently so as not shock your systems." Koro-sensei said and took off, while Karma and Nagisa screamed, but Shiniko didn't.
"Uh, okay!" Nagisa said still a bit worried.
Karma chuckled, "Wow! Check it out: the Pacific Ocean!" He exclaimed.
"I'm surprised there's not more wind or whatever." Nagisa commented, "Is it because you're using your head to deflect most of it?" He asked.
"The secret, you see, is my aerodynamic skin. Normally, my head is soft and squishy. When exposed to high pressure, however, it hardens like a shell. That's how I can withstand the effects of Mach 20 speed. Did you know that something very much like my skin, plays a role in your day-to-day life? To explain," Koro-sensei started to teach them a lesson about dilatancy.
"This could be your best chance to assassinate him, Karma, Shiniko. He's distracted juggling two things at once" Ritsu said.
"Except we don't want to die." Both, Karma and Shiniko said at the same time.
"We're over open water at the speed of sound; physics doesn't support that plan." Karma stated, "Koro-sensei has us right where he wants us. We've got no choice but to listen and learn."
When they arrived in Hawaii, Koro-sensei finished his dilatancy lesson and changed into his human disguise that somehow fooled everyone.
"Man, it's freezing in here." Karma said.
"It's an island thing. They're all about cranking the AC." Koro-sensei informed, "Let's bundle you up so no one catches pneumonia. Here!" He said and handed a pink blanket with hearts with his face on it to Karma and a plain pink to Nagisa. Karma and Shiniko shared the blanket since Koro-sensei only had two on hand, or tentacle.
"This is so cool! I've never been to a movie theatre!" Ritsu cheerfully exclaimed and she was wearing a winter coat with gloves.
"Don't they cut out a bunch of stuff for distribution overseas? We gettin' the real deal here?" Nagisa asked.
"Where's your sense of adventure? It shouldn't be all that different than what we see back home once it comes out over there." Koro-sensei stated, "And if it is, so much the better. It'll be like seeing the same artwork from different angles. Here. My tentacles could be used as earphones." He said and held a tentacle near the students and told them what they were for. Shiniko kindly moved it aside since she wouldn't need it.
"Now, sit back and enjoy the show!" Koro-sensei said and gave the students a drink and popcorn. As the lights dimmed out, he looked over and saw Karma and Shiniko share the blanket, and he wrote something down in one of his little notebooks.
After the movie ended, Koro-sensei took the students back to the school building. Koro-sensei started crying because it was so cliché that the villain was the protagonist's bother.
"Thank you for taking us with you, sir." Nagisa thanked.
"Yeah, thanks." Shiniko thanked as well.
"G'night." Karma said.
"Yes, yes, goodnight, children. Be careful on your way home. Oh, and I'd like you to write a detailed synopsis of the film in your own words for tomorrow." Koro-sensei assigned.
"Woah!" Nagisa jumped back upon hearing the task, "You're giving us homework?" Nagisa questioned.
"I mean, we do owe him one for taking us to see the movie, all the way to Hawaii none the less. So I think it's quite fair." Shiniko said.
"She's right, so I'll be expecting three, well written summaries tomorrow." Koro-sensei said.
"I'll be right back, you guys go on ahead," Shiniko said and running off to the classroom window. Leaving the three of them confused and speechless.
When Shiniko got to the classroom, she went over to her desk, pulled out a notebook and pencil, and began writing out her synopsis as fast as possible. After she finished, she left it on Koro-sensei's desk and ran back outside without breaking a sweat.
By the time she got outside, Karma and Nagisa had already gone and Koro-sensei just blasted off somewhere. When she started walking down the path, she heard some muttering, so she went to check it out.
"Did your eyes follow his course?" The voice belonged to a mysterious man in white robes, there was a pause. Shiniko looked around him and saw a boy her age squatting on a branch.
"Good. Then you can kill him." The man in white said.
"You mean...him?" The boy questioned.
"Yes. Your brother. Though as of tomorrow, he'll also be your teacher." The man stated, "Now. It's time to reap vengeance for what's been done to our moon."
Shiniko started to slowly fly down the path, and stayed very close to the ground. She held her bag in one hand, while the other was in a fist over her mouth, thinking.
"That voice, it seemed familiar, but at the same time not. Could it be... No, it couldn't be, but it's possible. Besides, what business does he have here? Well he did mention kill, so he's probably here to assassinate sensei. But then, who's the boy? He does look very familiar to me... Maybe I-" She bumped into something, snapping her out of her thoughts, her wings quickly folded and she fell backwards.
"Owww..." Shiniko groaned and look up to see two people looking at her, "Sorry guys, I wasn't looking at where I was going." She apologized.
"That's alright," Nagisa said and helped her up.
Shiniko thanked him and dusted herself off. The trio continued to walk home together, until they had to go their separate ways.
When Shiniko got home, she did her homework, made some dinner, showered and went to bed, but before that she talked with Ritsu.
"Hey, Ritsu?" Shiniko said.
"Yeah?"
"Do you know if there's going to be a new or transfer student joining E Class?"
"Absolutely. His name is Itona Horibe. He and I were supposed to transfer together, he would handle close range attacks and I would do long range attacks. Together we could've driven Koro-sensei into a corner, but I was told I didn't have the capacity to support him and he needed to work out a few kinks before letting him loose."
"I see, well thanks for the information Ritsu. Have a good evening."
"You too!"
After ending their conversation, Shiniko just laid in bed.
"Heh, Itona Horibe, huh?" Shiniko thought and fell asleep.
