Chapter 15: Princess Harumi Jade
2 to 3 Years Ago...
Harumi zip-lined from Borg Tower over to an apartment building that was right next to it. She landed and saw the colossus right beside her. She ran but screamed when the colossus hit the building she was on. She regained her balance and ran down the stairs.
She stopped for a moment and looked through the window. The colossus was still right beside the building. She continued to run and saw an exit. She ran towards it and frantically tried to open it. It didn't budge.
She kicked it and it opened. She was about to run down the emergency stairs but heard a cry from inside the building, "Mom, Dad, don't leave me!" The sound of a boy from the inside cried.
Harumi heard it, she hesitated to run back inside, knowing it might risk her own life. After a few seconds, she had a determined look on her face as she ran back inside.
She looked around a corner and saw a small family of three. A mom, dad, and son. The mother was pushing her son towards the elevator, "Please, take him." She said.
The young boy was crying, "No..."
Harumi's face turned into a sad frown as she saw the scene. It reminded her of how she lost her parents...
"I want to stay," Young Harumi yelled, turning back to look at her parents, "Mama!" She cried out while getting shoved into the elevator.
Harumi's mother was holding her hand, trying to reassure her, "W-We'll see you when we get down, I promise." She had a distressed look on her face. The elevator door shut.
Harumi's parents closed their eyes, starting to tear up. The building shook immensely, making Harumi's parents open their eyes in shock. They held on to each other and the building fell.
She shook out the horrid memory and ran towards the elevator. The people were shocked, knowing that she was The Quiet One. Harumi ignored their looks and looked towards the family, "I'll get you out. Together." She pulled the kid out of the elevator and the door closed, "I promise."
Not having a choice, the family followed her without question. Harumi led them to the emergency stairway. The son and father ran through immediately while the mother thanked Harumi, "Thank you." And with that, the mother ran towards the stairs.
Harumi smiled. She was about to go through herself, but that was when the ceiling above the exit collapsed. The mother looks at her, worried for the teenage girl.
Not wanting to cause any more harm to them, Harumi yelled, "Go! I'll find another way." The family nodded and left down the stairs.
Harumi panicked. She ran up the stairs that led to the top of the building, knowing that it would be wiser to be on top instead of inside the building. She got to the rooftop and gasped as she saw Skylor and Garmadon fighting over the control of the stone colossus. Skylor lost control and the sudden change made Garmadon stumble backwards while he was still controlling the colossus.
The colossus stumbled backwards and unfortunately, it fell towards the building Harumi was on. She gasped and screamed at the sudden movement. The colossus stood up from the fall and the building started shaking.
"No!" Harumi yelled. She looked around her, hoping to find a way off to save herself. She couldn't find anything. Knowing her fate, she panicked.
She then saw the Resistance a few buildings away. They were all looking at her but she was focused on Lloyd. She calmed down slightly at the sight of him.
He turned his head and locked eyes with Harumi, "Rumi..." He faintly says her name, his used-to-be-green eyes filled with worry.
Harumi looked around one last time, trying to find a way off of the building. The building rumbled again before it started falling slowly. Harumi made no sound. There was dust everywhere as she started getting closer to the ground.
It was hard to see anything. The building was slightly slanted as it fell. When it started slanting, she started sliding towards the left side of the building. She screamed as she grabbed onto the side of the building, holding on for her life.
This is the end for her. She closed her eyes and let the tears fall, "I'm sorry, Lloyd." She whispered. She lost her grip from the side of the building and fell while screaming. How many stories high left? She didn't know.
She kept her eyes closed as she fell, her back first. She landed on her back and everything blacked out for her.
People that were near Borg Tower could hear Garmadon scream in fury, "NO!" He cried out. He fell to his knees and got up enraged, "You want this city, Lloyd?" He hissed, "Then you can have it... In ruins!" He then started controlling the colossus towards them.
Everyone on the ground of the city panicked, looking for a safe place to go. The stone colossus was destroying building to building out of control. TV's around the city came on and Gayle Gossip started talking, fear in her eyes, "Everyone should leave the city at once! Nowhere is safe." She yelled right before buildings crashing could be heard, from the TV and reality.
The family that Harumi rescued got out of their hiding spot after the colossus was far away from them. The son looked towards his parents, "We need to find the girl, she saved our lives. The least we could do is save her." He said, "Maybe she's somewhere around here?"
"Mason, dear, she never got out of the building." His mother protested, "But then again, we could try looking for her." She smiled which made the boy beam.
The father looked hesitant before saying, "Okay, but hurry. If we can't find her, we'll have to leave without her."
The boy called Mason nodded and started searching around the rubble. His mother then warned, "Careful, Mason. Don't hurt yourself in the process." She frowned while searching.
"I will, mom." Mason shouted back.
After a few minutes of searching, the father was about to call it off, "She's not here. We need to go. Now."
Mason lifted up a small piece of the wall and heard something. He placed his ear close to the source and heard it again.
Breathing.
He smiled and called out to his parents, "Mom, Dad! I think I found someone." He looked back to the pile of rubble as his parents ran towards him, "I think someone's still alive under here. I can hear them breathing." He told them.
The three of them slowly and carefully pushed the rubble away from whoever was under it, and in no time, they could see the person clearly. It was indeed The Quiet One. The boy smiled but then frowned when he saw her injuries. His dad then lifted her up and tossed her over his shoulder, "Let's go. Her injuries need to be treated properly or she'll die. Come on, we need to go!"
They all ran towards a car on the street. Luckily, it was not damaged. They got in and started driving away from the city. Mason looked back at the streets of Ninjago and asked his dad, "Where do we go now?"
"We're going back to Jamanakai Village. We should be safe there for the time being. Once Ninjago is safe again, we can go back." He explained and his son nodded.
The mother was looking for things inside the car. She was in the back seat with Harumi while the dad and son were in the front. She found her emergency medkit and smiled. She took out a clean cloth and gently applied pressure to all of her cuts. She cleaned the wound with a soft damp cloth and then removed any dirt and debris with tweezers cleaned with alcohol. She applied a thin layer of antibiotic ointment then she bandaged the cuts.
Next, she worked on her bruises. She grabbed an ice pack from the kit and wrapped it inside a towel. She placed it over top of the bruises and repeated this for the rest of her bruises. After that was dealt with, she wiped off Harumi's face paint before placing a wet towel on her forehead.
Treating all of her injuries took a very long time. So long that they had reached Jamanakai Village. Mason got out and ran towards the door of his old house. The father came to the back seat to carry Harumi over his shoulder again. The mother and father both walked towards the house.
From what they heard, some of the Sons of Garmadon like to come to villages like this to check up on the villages, so the family decided to just stay inside the house while taking care of Harumi. Fortunately, the mother was a doctor. She was used to taking care of people.
She used to work at Jamanakai, her house being a small clinic, but then decided to go to Ninjago City to become a doctor. So the whole family moved to Ninjago City in a small apartment. The mother was known as Mrs. Huxley while the father was Mr. Huxley.
Mrs. Huxley spent a very long time taking care of Harumi. Apparently, after a few tests, Harumi was in a coma. Only time will tell if she will wake up or stay in bed. Days passed, and soon it turned into weeks. And weeks turned into months.
1 Month.
2 Months.
3 Months.
4 Months.
5 Months.
6 Months.
7 Months.
8 Months.
And finally, 9 months passed by. Harumi was still in bed. Wires attached to her to keep her alive. She was a mess. Even with Mrs. Huxley taking care of her full-time and Mr. Huxley and Mason sometimes helping, it seemed hopeless.
Harumi was laying on the bed. Looking lifeless, unmoving, pale. She sometimes mumbles a few things. But most of the time, every few hours, she mumbles, "Lloyd... I'm sorry..." Inside her head, everything was just a horrible nightmare...
Or was it?
⊱ ─────────{.⋅ ✧ ⋅.} ─────────⊰
Harumi grabbed Lloyd's hand, "Lloyd. Look, I'm sorry." She pleaded, "I didn't mean any of the bad things I did or said to you. But I meant what I said at the Oni Temple. I do love you." She put more emphasis on 'do', "I still do."
Lloyd took his hand back from Harumi and faced her with a scowl, "No, Harumi. It's all a lie. You never loved me and nor are you sorry for all the bad things you did." He growled, "All the good things were a lie! The bad things you did were the true, but not the good things." He looked away from her and walked away.
Harumi paused before running after him, "Lloyd, please. I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you!" She tried but he was already out of earshot. No matter how fast she goes, he's still far away from her. She eventually gave up and fell to her knees, crying.
Everything around her was beautiful and bright a second ago, but in just a snap, everything went dark. She stood up again to find herself in a black room. She couldn't see anything, "Hello? Is anyone there?"
She took a step forward and found herself falling down a hole. She screamed but stopped when she saw that she was falling off of Borg Tower. She was in her Quiet One attire. Garmadon stopped her from falling by grabbing the collar of her shirt. She was about to sigh in relief and thank him but instead, "I never loved you like a daughter, my princess. I was only using you as a pawn to conquer Ninjago!" He sneered before dropping her again, "You were foolish to think that releasing me would give you a special place in my heart."
Her heart cracked, she was still holding on to hope. Hoping that someone still cared for her. Then she realized that she was falling again. She flailed her hands around, hoping to grab something to stop her from falling.
Everything went black again before she was falling off of another building. A hand grabbed her arm and stopped her from falling. She looked up and it was Lloyd. His eyes were shining and he had a smile. A happy smile.
She smiled back but noticed his eyes glowed purple for a second. It wasn't Lloyd. It was a shapeshifter, an oni. It shifted back into its true form and laughed mockingly before letting her go to fall again.
Her heart was at its breaking point. But she was still trying to hold on to whatever hope she had left. In another second, she felt herself stop falling and the next, she felt herself in someone's arms. She looked up and saw those green eyes she was dying to apologize to.
But before she could say anything, Lloyd beat her to it, "Stop. Save it for someone who cares." He scowled, "I'm over you. I don't love you anymore. That feeling is already replaced with something else. Hatred." His eyes were filled with anger.
He dropped her to the ground and took out something from behind his back. It was an item that belonged to her. One of her most prized possession. Something that could have been very useful to have in a fatal situation.
The Oni Mask of Hatred.
Harumi panicked, "Lloyd, no! Don't do use it!" She screamed, but it was no use. Lloyd had put on the mask and was running straight for her. She gasped and started running the other way. She closed her eyes for a second and when she opened them, she was met with darkness again.
Falling. Again.
She had never held on to anyone. All she wanted was for someone to care for her no matter what. Her parents were gone. The Garmadon she brought back had no heart. She betrayed Lloyd. No one would ever trust her again.
Even while falling, she fell to her knees and cried. She mumbled, "I'm a terrible person. It's all my fault. It's my fault I'm broken. It's my fault I'm mad. It's my fault that I'm alone, falling with no one to catch me." She cried.
In another flash, the darkness was gone. She gasped as she sat up. She found herself in a spacious grassland. Her attire was different. She was wearing a ninja gi. Dark jade green with a golden dragon. She saw golden petals around her. She smiled. She heard heavy breathing from behind her so she turned around. She saw a dragon.
A Golden Dragon.
She cautiously started walking towards it, "Shh, shh. Don't worry, I'm not here to hurt you." The dragon seemed calm and she gently petted its nose, "I don't even know why I'm here," She sighed, "I'm alone. All I ever do in my life ever since the loss of my parents is... Push everyone away. They care for me but all I do is push them away."
She looked away while closing her eyes. A voice snapped her out of her thoughts, "You finally realize your wrong-doings, Harumi?" She opened her eyes again and saw him.
She gasped and knelt down, "You're the First Spinjitzu Master." She breathed.
"No need to kneel, Harumi." He commanded and Harumi slowly stood back up.
"Why am I here?" She asked, clearly confused.
The First Spinjitzu Master walked around while saying, "I had brought you here."
"But why?"
"Everything that had just happened to you was a test. You finally realized that it was not the fault of others that you are alone."
"I've pushed away everyone that had ever cared for me. Hutchins. The ninja. Lloyd." She sighed, "I deserve any punishments I get. I did so many bad things in my life." Harumi fell to her knees again.
"Whoever told you that you were going to be punished?" He asked while helping her up.
"But- But I've made so many mistakes-" She started but cut off by him.
Harumi jumped since he teleported behind her all of a sudden while saying, "Everyone makes mistakes. But when we realized what we did wrong, we learn something from it. There is no big or small mistake. A mistake is a mistake. Punishing someone will do no good. As my youngest son once said, 'The greatest way to defeat an enemy is to make them your friend'."
Harumi looked away again, "Lloyd has already tried that. Lots of times. I just pushed him away." She groaned.
The First Spinjitzu Master stopped walking and teleported behind her, "Ah, yes. My grandson, Lloyd. I had brought him here a few months ago as well. I told him that endings aren't really endings. Only new beginnings. You may think that this is your end, but it isn't." He walked up in front of Harumi, "This isn't the end for you yet. You can still make amends. Correct your mistakes. Apologize to him and all those you had hurt."
Harumi looked at the ground, "He'll never forgive me. Not after everything I did to him." She frowned.
"He will. Not immediately, but you also need to forgive him before he can forgive you." He said, "The question is, have you forgiven him?" He asked, looking back at her.
Harumi opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. Only a sigh, "No. I want him to forgive me, but I haven't even forgiven him myself." She frowned.
"There is nothing more powerful than a blow to the heart. He did that to you and you did the same in return." The First Spinjitzu Master told her, making her frown even more, "You don't have to forgive him immediately, but if he doesn't forgive you immediately, then you must understand why."
Harumi's frown turned into a blank expression before she nodded in understanding. The First Spinjitzu Master started again, "If you prove to him that you changed, then he will forgive you in time." He teleported again, "The future is what we make of it. It is not too late to do the right thing." He turned to Harumi again, "Now, it is up to you. Will you correct your mistakes or will you continue your wrong-doings?" He asked.
Harumi closed her eyes shut and frowned again. She looked back to him and said, "I don't want to continue my mistakes. I want Lloyd to know that I regret every bad thing I did. I don't deserve his forgiveness. I just want him and everyone to know that I have changed." She stated.
"You learn quickly." He smiled, "There will be a time when you're needed in Ninjago. When? You will find out."
Harumi nodded then asked, "Will I remember any of this?"
"You will think it was a dream. In time, you will forget all about it." The Creator of all Ninjago placed his hand out and Harumi slowly took it while smiling. Golden petals surrounded her then everything went white.
⊱ ─────────{.⋅ ✧ ⋅.} ─────────⊰
Back in the house, Mrs. Huxley was sleeping right beside the bed. She was starting to lose hope that Harumi will ever wake up. It's been almost 10 months since the Ninja defeated Garmadon and the Oni.
Mrs. Huxley woke up from her sleep. It was 9 in the morning. She looked at Harumi, hoping to see her awake, but no. She was still asleep. She sighed and got up from the couch she was sleeping on. She opened the door and Mason and Mr. Huxley came in, asking about her state. She explained that nothing has changed and they were about to exit the room when the impossible happened.
A golden petal flew with the wind and flown across Harumi's face. And out of nowhere, her chest glowed gold before she gasped taking in air. Everyone looked back at her in surprise. She shot up from the bed and started coughing and breathing in air.
Mr. and Mrs. Huxley including Mason smiled in happiness that their patient was finally awake. Harumi took off her breathing device carefully and asked, "Where am I?"
The family came into her view and she recognized them as the family she saved from the falling building. She gasped, "I actually saved you guys. I can't believe it." Mrs. Huxley came close to her and Harumi hugged her carefully, "Thank you for saving me." She smiled gratefully.
Mason spoke up, "You saved our lives, it's only fair we help you." He beamed.
Harumi broke the hug from Mrs. Huxley and looked at the boy, "I couldn't just let you experience the same fate I did." She stated but then asked, "What are your names?"
"My name's Mason." The boy answered.
"Just call me Mrs. Huxley and call him Mr. Huxley." The doctor smiled.
Harumi got up from bed, "Thank you again for saving me."
Mrs. Huxley then came to her, "Let me help you get those off." She said, helping to take off the wires, "Do you still need to rest?" She asked.
"If it's okay with you." Harumi said politely.
"Of course, it is." She smiled while Harumi nodded her head in thanks.
After a month, Harumi decided to go back to Ninjago to try and apologize. Shielding her identity as the former Jade Princess or the former Quiet One. She got help from the Huxley's to cover her real identity. Mrs. Huxley suggested that she dyed her hair slightly different, so she dyed it golden blonde instead of its usual white blonde.
Mr. Huxley reminded her to change her name. He suggested a few names but Mason ended up saying, "How about 'Quin'?"
"Quin?" Harumi asked, "Why that name?"
"From what I know, you were the Quiet One." He put more emphasis on 'Quiet One'.
Harumi raised a brow, "And?"
"See the puzzle? Quin. Quiet One." He tried to get them to understand the pun, "I took the 'Q-U-I' from Quiet. And the N from One. To make the name 'Quin'." He said, smiling.
Harumi bent down to his height and ruffled his hair, "You're really smart, you know that?" She smiled playfully. Mason just laughed.
Mrs. Huxley smiled but then reminded, "You should probably go now. Don't want to miss your train." She smiled.
Harumi stood up and started heading for the exit of the village, "I'll see you soon. I'll come back as soon as I'm done. Goodbye, Huxley's." She waved.
"Farewell!"
"Bye!"
"We'll see you soon."
She rode to Ninjago. It took a few hours but once she got there, it was surprising. As you know, news spreads fast in Ninjago. As soon as she walked into the city, she read from the newspaper that the Ninja had gone soft and how the city was quiet from any bad guys so far.
She checked into her room at the hotel and got settled in. The Huxley's had reserved it for her earlier. She left the hotel to explore Ninjago when she saw the Ninja. They were dressed very differently from when she last saw them. She followed very far behind them when she saw them hit a dead end.
With them being ninjas and all that, she thought that they would just climb over the buildings but instead, they just asked for directions in public. She mentally facepalmed at that.
She went back to the hotel room and in just a few days, the city was being attacked by fire snakes that were being led by a female serpentine. After that fiasco, she found out that the ninja had disappeared to go on a quest to find Zane. So she waited for them to come back.
After they did, they looked a lot more fit than the last she saw them. But then, the ninja had to disappear again. She felt the energy wave and heard lots of computers saying, "Would you like to enter Prime Empire?"
She was a villain once and knew that this had to be the work of some new villain. But she didn't want to get involved, so she waited again. After a few days, the streets of Ninjago were filled with these robots with red visors and a bunch of other weird characters that look like something a game would contain.
She saw two dragons chasing each other in the sky as well. But all of that ended pretty quickly and the ninja left to the Monastery to clean up. But once again, they had to leave. Rumors said that they were invited to the Ivory City of Shintaro. She has never been there, but she has had a meeting with the King and Princess of the kingdom when she was 14.
Harumi had to admit that Princess Vania was fun to be around. She was very adventurous and optimistic. But sadly, she was too caught up in her revenge plans to even try to make friends with her. She facepalmed.
She heard something about the King, Vangelis, being evil and Princess Vania had to take over so she was now the Queen. Harumi was happy for her. The ninja came back and stayed for a while but then they went on a mission to find Clutch Powers, Master Wu, and Misako when they heard that they had gone missing during an expedition. So they left again to a dangerous island.
They returned, but not long after that happened, water started going crazy around the city. Especially after an energy wave, the water was out of control. She almost wanted to just go up to the Monastery but kept herself calm.
The ninja went on a mission again, this time underwater. It sounded amazing. Soon after they left, there was this weird guy from underwater. He broke into the Explorer's Club and was searching for this thing they called the Storm Amulet of Wojira.
Harumi had heard of the Legend of Wojira, but she thought that it was just a myth. But this is Ninjago so anything could happen. Wojira was awakened and Ninjago was flooded with the ocean.
At the time, she was just exploring new buildings in Ninjago when the flood started. It even reached the top of the building she was on. With no way off the building, she had to stay until the ninja saved the day. She saw the Bounty and had to run back inside. She peeked out the door and overheard their conversation.
Jay had a lot of seawater in his lungs and the water didn't respond to Nya. She actually felt bad for the Lightning Ninja. She saw a glimpse of all of them, but her eyes were stuck on, "Lloyd..." She whispered.
The ninja started walking into the building so she had to flee and hide again. Just her luck, the ninja were staying in the room next to her. She fell asleep but was awoken to chattering next door.
Through the window, she could see that Nya was doing something in the water. She overheard a voice she didn't recognize from the other room saying that Nya was trying to merge with the ocean. The ninja were unable to stop her and the transformation was complete.
After Nya had gone to the window Jay was at, she was about to blast off when she saw Harumi. Harumi's hair was wet and her hair dye melted, revealing her white hair. Nya recognized her as Harumi but just smiled at her and blasted off, leaving Harumi confused. The force went through the window and blasted her back.
After some things happened, Nya was able to defeat the evil guy named Kalmaar and she was also able to defeat Wojira. She saw everything go down and it was amazing. She saw the ninja's reaction to Nya having to leave, they were all sad.
Harumi felt bad for them and was able to attend Nya's Memorial without getting noticed. After a month or two passed, she returned back to Jamanakai. She locked herself up in the guest room for a few months but came out to get breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
One night, her window blew open. It startled Harumi. She went to close it but a dark face was in front of her. She recognized it instantly, "Garmadon." She said his name.
"Harumi. My 'adopted' daughter." He smiled, jumping in through the window.
Harumi gasped, "How did you-? I mean- Ahem, I'm not Harumi." She tried.
"Save your theatrics, girl. You can't fool me with a disguise like that." He laughed slightly, not mockingly but more of an amused one.
She raised a brow in curiosity, "Then what are you doing here?" Harumi asked, not scared by his presence.
Garmadon walked towards the window, his four hands behind his back, "I had a vision." He stated simply.
"What does that have to do with me? Why don't you tell that to your brother, Wu, instead?" She asked, getting more confused by the information just given to her.
He didn't move from his position. He inhaled and exhaled before saying, "My father told me that you were given a second chance of life for a reason." He smiled.
Harumi got even more confused, "What do you mean? It was just a dream and even if it wasn't, I thought he gave me another chance so that I could right a wrong." She asked.
Garmadon looked back at her, a blank expression on his face, "I had told you that a darkness will come. One that will consume everything in its path." He started.
Harumi looked down, "The oni." She then remembered and looked at him, "You, along with the ninja, already defeated them. They're gone for good." She stated.
"No. They're gone..." He paused, "But only for a brief amount of time. They're coming back. My father told me so."
"That's not possible." Harumi gasped, "They can't come back." She shook her head.
"Oh, they will be back." Garmadon clarified while looking at the open window.
Harumi's head shot up, "When? And why does that have something to do with me? Your brother or your son is a better choice than to come to me. And anyway, everyone, with the exceptions of the Huxley's, thinks I'm dead."
"In my vision, my father told me about you still living. This is your destiny, child." Garmadon walked around her, "My brother also had the vision. There is no point in coming to him. He will be the one to have to find me." He mused.
"The oni has the power of destruction. If I wasn't wrong, Lloyd used the Tornado of Creation to defeat the oni." She gave a questioning look to Garmadon, "Does that mean they have to do it again?" Garmadon nodded, "But Nya's gone and they can't create the tornado without the Water Elemental." She said.
"And that, my child, is where you come in." Garmadon cleared up, startling Harumi.
"Me?" She gasped, "What am I supposed to do to help the ninja with the Tornado of Creation? I'm not an elemental master, let alone a ninja!" She complained to her former adopted father.
"You will have to figure that out yourself. You will have a feeling inside of you when the oni are coming, before then, you have to come up with a plan to help the ninja create the Tornado of Creation." Garmadon asserted.
"How am I suppose to do that?" She questioned. She was about to say something else when she realized that Garmadon was no longer in her room. She looked around her room when she heard his voice again.
"You planned my resurrection all by yourself. Finding a way to help the ninjas shouldn't be hard for you." Were Garmadon's final words before disappearing off to the darkness again. Harumi looked through her window and saw Garmadon vanish into the dark.
She sighed and closed her window before going to bed. This was her chance to help the ninja. "How do I do this? Should I find a way to transfer the Element of Water to someone else? Or maybe I should find a way to defeat the Oni without the Water Elemental? Or the obvious one... Find a way to bring Nya back." She thought in her head. She beamed mentally, "That's it! I just need to find an artifact. It's most likely an artifact that only little is known about. Just like the Oni Masks. I found a way once, and I can do it again."
"It'll take lots of research, but it'll be worth it. I'll do it to prove to the ninja and everyone else that I've changed. This is why The First Spinjitzu Master gave me another chance. This is what he meant. I can't let him down. I can't let anyone else down after what I did." She took a deep breath and shut her eyes.
The next day, she finally left her room and spent some time with the Huxley's before leaving to the Library of Domu to find any sort of artifact that could reverse the effects of Nya merging with the sea. Harumi explained to the family of what Garmadon told her but Mrs. Huxley wasn't sure if she should trust him, "But what if it's all a trick?"
"Do I have any other choice?" She asked. She closed her eyes and sighed before opening them again, "Look, I need to find a way to get the ninja's trust back. This is might be my only shot. Perhaps, this is my destiny..."
Mason stepped up, smiling, "If you think this is the best choice, then I say just do it. If you're destined for this task, you must not fail."
"Thank you, Mason." Harumi smiled gratefully.
Mr. Huxley nodded in approval which led to Mrs. Huxley sighing, "Okay. Just be careful. You can go."
"Thanks. All of you. I'll see you later when I come back with a plan." She smiled before leaving while whispering, "Bye, Huxley's. I have to succeed. Even if it kills me." She vowed, determination in her eyes.
She spent days in the Library of Domu, searching for anything. She checked every scroll she could find. Every book she could find. Even any pictures or posters she could find. But nothing helped her. She double-checked everything she found so far, but there wasn't anything helpful.
She sighed, wanting to give up. She got up and walked to the door when she saw a poster of the ninja together, smiling. That made her smile too, "I'm sorry. I couldn't-" She got cut off when she saw Lloyd in the picture.
Her chest glowed gold for a second before something in her just started leading her towards a shelf. She took the books out carefully and found a vault behind the books. She gasped and started trying to pry the lock open. She pulled on it and hit it but it didn't budge.
She groaned in frustration before something shined in her eyes. She looked towards it and saw something shining in between a page of a book. She opened the page and started reading it. It was the library's blueprint with a golden key on the page.
She took the key and smiled but not before reading the page, "Carefully insert the key into the lock of the golden vault behind the book decor of the southern shelves." She read quietly out loud. She checked and sure enough, the vault she found was in the southern shelf.
She placed the book back in its spot and followed the instructions. The vault wasn't golden though, but she tried anyway. She inserted the key and rotated the key to the right. As soon as she did, the vault turned to gold and it opened. The contents were a few special books but only one caught her attention.
Ancient Artifacts.
"This seems promising." She thought to herself as she smiled.
She checked out the list of chapters in the books and chapter 107 read, 'Reversing Effects'. She sighed in relief and was about to flip to the chapter when another chapter intrigued her interest.
Chapter 367: Oni and Dragon.
Curiosity got the best of her and she read through the whole chapter. She flipped through the pages of the chapter and a certain artifact caught her eye.
The Crystal of Oni and Dragon.
Her eyes widened in surprise and she started reading the description. The Crystal of Oni and Dragon has the power to create and destroy, just like the Oni and Dragons. The Crystal was created by The First Spinjitzu Master in the war between Oni and Dragon. When he fled from the First Realm, he brought the Crystal with him.
He hid the Crystal somewhere in this realm, but the whereabouts are unknown even to this day. The First Spinjitzu Master knew how powerful this Crystal was. It also has the power to summon the Oni or Dragons. But he limited the power to only a three-time use.
She stopped reading until that last sentence and turned back to the list of chapters. She turned to chapter 107 and started reading. Granted, it took a day and a half to do so but it was worth it.
She found a few reversing artifacts but they were useless for Nya's situation. But after reading it for a day and a half, she found a promising artifact.
The Pearl of Reversal.
She read its description. The Pearl of Reversal is an ancient artifact created by some unknown sea dwellers. The Pearl is powered by two elemental magic. It contains the power of water and it has the power of time.
Though the Pearl doesn't reverse age, it does reverse effects. Say, if you were to get spelled, this artifact has the power to reverse its effect, but only for three times. The map to the Pearl was first hidden by The First Spinjitzu Master underneath the Northern Mountains. But it was found and was moved to be hidden somewhere in Ninjago City.
Harumi stopped right there and thought to herself, "The Pearl of Reversal. The Pearl of Reversal. The Pearl of Reversal. I think I know where to search." She smiled.
She knew where most maps to important artifacts were hidden in Ninjago City, so she knew where to search, but she still needed a plan. She can't just go galloping off to find the map and find the Pearl herself if the Oni are coming. No. She needed to bring the ninja with her. But how?
Luckily, Harumi is a mastermind at planning things just like this. She had planned something very similar to this when she sought to resurrect Garmadon for revenge on the ninja. If she had done it once, she was sure that she could do it again.
"I need to find the map. Get the ninja to somehow trust 'Quin'. Give lots of hints to whoever I'm closest to. And then set off to find the Pearl." She thought quickly. She sighed, "Better than nothing." She said out loud.
She placed the book back in its place in the vault. Locked up, covered the vault with the fake books. Then she placed the key back into the book she found it in and packed up. She cleaned up any messes she made at the library before thanking the workers and leaving.
Garmadon told her that she will know when the oni will come. He said that she will have a feeling inside of her. Everything still seems normal so she took that as a sign that the oni are still far from crossing over to this realm.
After a long time of debating, she decided that it would probably be best to up her skill in combat again. Mrs. Huxley said that she was already well enough from the injuries from the fall to do intense training again. She even said that it was a miracle that she recovered this quickly.
Having permission from her personal doctor, she trained. As the Quiet One, she was able to sneak out of the Royal Palace every now and then. She would sneak out to go to the underground subway base. It was pretty hidden, which is why she chose that spot to hide the Sons of Garmadon's headquarters. She came there very often to learn combat and to up her fighting skills. She wasn't as good as the Green Ninja but she was able to defeat him because he had a soft spot for her, which she used to thought weakened him.
After not practicing for almost two years, she was kind of sloppy at first. She practiced punching, elbows, kicking, and kneeing at first, since those were the simplest fighting techniques in the book. She remastered those pretty quickly, only in a day or two. Next, she practiced flips such as frontflips, backflips, aerials, layouts, tucks, and pikes. The flips took way longer to remaster than the simple techniques. The total period of time took about a month or so.
After flips, she practiced different types of martial arts such as karate, taekwondo, krav maga, and a few others. Some were easy to master or remaster and some were harder to master, but in the end, it took around two to three months. After the whole self-training was done, she did want to learn spinjitzu. She heard that even non-elemental masters could learn it so she tried learning it without a sensei.
Spinjitzu seemed simple when you watch someone else do it, but when you try it yourself, it comes out as a disaster. She was practicing that one martial art for almost a month but to no luck, it was really hard to master. She got the stance correct but she couldn't seem to get the spinning correctly. She followed the instructions thoroughly but without someone to guide her, it was nearly impossible to learn.
The first thing you need to do was either just spin around right away or do a backflip. She tried spinning around itself but it didn't work, so she tried backflipping then spinning. She succeeded in getting the tornado to form, but she couldn't really control the spinning. She tried again and again, but there wasn't a professional that was assisting her, so she couldn't master it.
She gave up after a month of learning it and decided to just go to phase two of her plan. She knew enough fighting skills to try and locate the map of the Pearl, so she just went with it. For the third time, she left the Huxley's to go to Ninjago again. She spent almost two whole months trying to track down the whereabouts of the map before getting a surprise.
The Huxley's decided to move back to Ninjago in their apartment again. Harumi was happy to have the company and help instead of having to do everything by herself. Another month was lost after failing to pinpoint the map again, so she took a break for a week. She was still disguised as Quin and one day, she and Mrs. Huxley went to the daycare. Mrs. Huxley was going there to visit a friend. She left Ninjago for about two years and hasn't seen her friends that lived in Ninjago for so long. Harumi was just there to accompany her, it was the least she could do after the Huxley's saved her life.
They were all currently in the main part of the daycare when Harumi heard something. Crying. She looked to the source of the cry and saw a little girl that looked around the age of 9 or 10. Harumi gave a sad frown at the kid and looked at Mrs. Huxley's friend. She was about to ask if she was going to do something about it but she looked to be having fun, reunited with Mrs. Huxley, so Harumi didn't interfere. Instead, she decided to gently approach the little girl and try to help her.
"Hello?" She started and the young girl looked at her with teary eyes. Harumi gave a warm smile, "Hey there, little one. What your name?" Harumi asked.
The girl sniffed before saying, "Amelia."
"That's a beautiful name, Amelia. My name's Harum- Ahem, Quin. My name's Quin." Harumi corrected at the last second. She was still getting used to telling people her fake name. Amelia seemed to smile for a second before sniffing again. Harumi frowned, "Something seems to be bothering you..." She stated, "What's wrong?" She asked kindly.
"I-I lost my p-parents a while a-ago in an a-accident," She paused to sniff, "When there w-was t-this scary giant s-snake that f-flooded N-Ninjago." She explained with teary eyes, "I-I feel like it's the n-ninjas fault b-but... It f-feels w-wrong to blame t-them." She admitted while sniffling.
Harumi gasped quietly while thinking, "I can't let this innocent little girl make the same mistake I did." She thought before saying, "I don't think you should think such thoughts." Harumi said as gently as possible.
Amelia looked up at her, "Hmm?" She sniffed.
Harumi smiled, "I also thought that once. I blamed the ninja for my parents passing, but I was wrong." She started, "I held onto anger that the ninja were at fault, but that only led to my downfall. My anger only caused pain to others and mostly," She paused, "Myself."
Amelia quirked a brow in confusion, "How did you cause pain to yourself like that?" She asked quietly.
Harumi chuckled lightly before answering, "An old friend once told me, 'Holding onto anger is like trying to throw a hot rock, only you get burned'. And what she said was true. I tried to get revenge on the ninja but I almost perished in doing so." She stopped to take a breath and smile, "I was given a second chance and I'm not about to make the same mistake twice," She turned to Amelia, "And I'm not about to let someone else make the same mistake." She finished.
Amelia smiled and wiped her tears away before stating, "Wow. I guess I was wrong to think bad thoughts about the ninja." She said.
"Everyone makes mistakes, even the ninja. But when we realize our mistakes, we learn from them." Harumi summarized.
Amelia nodded, "Thank you. I don't know what would've happened if you didn't tell me that." She smiled as she thanked the former Quiet One.
"You welcome, little one." Harumi patted her back as she got up and walked towards Mrs. Huxley.
"That was incredible, Quin." Mrs. Huxley wowed.
Her friend nodded, "You're really good with kids. Have you ever thought of getting a job at the daycare? We could really use some help here."
Mrs. Huxley nodded in agreement, "I've come here lots of time and I've never seen anyone help a kid in a stage of loss like that before." She beamed.
Harumi smiled while looking away feeling flattered, "I just know how she feels. I just don't want her to make a mistake she'll regret for the rest of her life." She answered truthfully.
Mrs. Huxley's friend just scoffed, "Please. Don't be so modest. You're amazing at this job." And Mrs. Huxley nodded, "You'll get paid for doing something you're really good at. It'll be fun."
Harumi looked at the ground and thought about it. She looked back at her doctor's friend and said, "When can I start?" But then she added, "But if it's possible, I would prefer to get just a part-time job, not a full-time job." She smiled.
Huxley's friend nodded, "Sure, of course, you can. It's your choice." They all walked towards the main office and she asked, "What day are you free?"
"Hmm, any day is fine." Harumi replied.
The friend typed in something and printed out a small piece of paper before handing it over to Harumi, "Then I look forwards to seeing you here tomorrow."
Harumi looked at the paper and nodded in approval, "Thank you. We'll be leaving now." She smiled before she waved goodbye along with Mrs. Huxley.
Ever since that day, Harumi always came to work on a weekly basis. After a month passed by, Harumi remembered when she used to feed the poor. At the time, she thought that she was only doing that to get Lloyd to fall for her, but she was wrong. She really did enjoy doing it, so she decided to continue it.
After that month had passed, Harumi likes to bring two bags filled with food and/or presents. The one filled with both food and presents is for the kids at the daycare while the one filled with food was the one she shared with the poor.
On the days she isn't working at the daycare, she worked on locating the map. The Huxley's would help her sometimes if they're free, but if they're busy, Harumi usually does it alone. A few more months passed now and Harumi had searched almost the entire city of Ninjago. She was on the verge of giving up, but Mason liked to remind her that she shouldn't quit. Harumi had once told Mason how she wanted to be a ninja when she was younger, she still does. And Mason used that card against her, he told her that 'A ninja never quits', and that encouraged Harumi to keep going until she can finally find it.
Another month passed by and now it had almost been a year since Nya made her sacrifice, just a week left and it would be the first year after Nya's disappearance. Everything was going fine until she felt something. Something dark.
The Oni.
They were coming soon. She had to speed up the process of finding the map. She checked all the places she had searched on a map of Ninjago. She crossed out everything until she finally found someplace that she hadn't thought to check yet. She felt really unintelligent to have not thought of that place first.
The Royal Palace, also known as The Palace of Secrets.
She used to live there and it contained an Oni Mask. She really should have thought of checking that place first. If it had an Oni Mask, then it must have lots of other important artifacts. She made a plan to sneak into the palace and search for the map. She told the Huxley's about her plan and about how she felt the Oni getting closer to the realm.
The Huxley's agreed to this plan and Harumi told them that after this week, she would go and search the palace. She promised to be careful and to try and avoid getting the police involved. The week passed pretty quickly and it was finally the night she would break into her old home. She wore all black so that she could blend in with the shadows and hopefully not get caught.
The operation started smoothly. She snuck in through an open window in her old bedroom, tiptoed down the halls, and once she made it to the hall of artifacts, it started to go downhill. She searched the whole hallway and she found a picture of a pearl on a scroll. She smiled.
She forgot how artifacts are always kept with lots of security and she foolishly grabbed the scroll while triggering a security system. It alerted the police nearby and she could hear the yells of two police officers coming into the building.
She panicked when she heard the footsteps of two officers. She looked around frantically trying to look for a way out. "Freeze!" The yell of an officer could be heard from a few feet in front of her.
She froze, but as soon as the officer came towards her, she ran. "Hey! Stop right there!" Harumi clutched onto the scroll while running. She didn't even know where she was running to. She kept running and running until she remembered something.
"This is the Palace of Secrets! I can just use a secret door!" Harumi thought. She smiled and kept running until she found a secret door she remembered.
She kept panting as she was chased. "You!" One of the officers' yelled, making Harumi look back for a second while still running, "Stop right there!"
She didn't want to reveal her gender so she just shook her head 'no'. Harumi kept running around the halls until she saw a room. She remembered that room. It was the first secret door the Emperor and Empress showed her. She smiled and thought to herself, "Finally!"
She turned to the room and could hear the officers panting as they stopped running. Harumi didn't wait for them to come in and just pulled a secret lever that was disguised as a flower pot, the bookshelf slid open. She walked in and closed the secret door.
She let out a breath of relief and sighed, "That was a close one." She walked further and finally found the way out of the secret passageway. It took her a long 15 minutes though. Unfortunately, once she got out, she heard quiet footsteps and gasped quietly. She saw a support beam she could hide behind and hid there.
She could see the figure clearly when the moonbeams shone on his face. The police called for backup. Because now she has a bigger problem if she wanted to escape.
Lloyd was here.
He walked through the hallway and saw that a curtain fell out of its holder. She mentally facepalmed at herself for leaving her trace behind. She saw that Lloyd found the way to open the door and he looked inside whilst quietly mumbling, "That must've been how the culprit escaped from the room." She could hear him.
When he peeked inside, Harumi started walking towards him. This would be risky but she had no other choice. She was going to try and distract Lloyd. This could either end up good or bad.
Just as she was about to do something, he swiftly turned around and grabbed her wrists. She gasped in surprise, "I knew this was a bad idea. I should've just ran." She thought.
"Who are you?" Lloyd asked her.
Harumi stayed silent at his question as she tried to wriggle out of his grasp, but Lloyd was too strong as he kept his grip firm. Lloyd roughly pulled her towards him again, "I'm not gonna ask you this again. Who are you?" He asked with a bit of annoyance and anger hinted in his voice.
Harumi started trembling. She has never seen Lloyd be so rough on anyone. He has always been careful and gentle unless he needed to engage in combat. She stayed silent at Lloyd's question when he suddenly let her go of her wrists.
She looked slightly confused on why he let her go. She was about to say something before Lloyd sighed and asked one more time, "Who are you? What's your name?"
She stayed quiet for a while before reaching for her hood and lifting it up. She heard him gasp. This gave her a sense of deja-vu. It was like that one time Lloyd thought she was kidnapping the Princess. She lifted up her hood and he gasped.
Back to reality, Lloyd asked, "Have we met before?"
She had to keep her identity a secret so she lied, "No, I don't think we have." She replied in a shy voice, but her mouth was starting to curve into a small shy smile. "Maybe we have? But I haven't been in Ninjago for about a year or two..."
"Really? Well, my name's-" Lloyd started introducing himself, but she cut him off.
"Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon." She slightly shrunk back shyly at her sudden voice, "I know. I've been here before and you are famous." Lloyd smiled bashfully as she continued, "The last time I was here was when Lord Garmadon took over." She lied again.
Lloyd slightly frowned at the mention of his father, "That was about two years ago. I'm guessing you fled when he took over?"
She hated lying to him as she frowned, "Y-Yes. You can say that. It was... complicated." She forced herself to say that.
Lloyd noticed that she looked uncomfortable, so he decided to ask, "Why did you break into the palace? Was it for crime's sake or..."
Her head jolted up when he mentioned that, "Oh! No, no, no. I wasn't here to steal. I mean no harm..."
Lloyd cocked a brow in confusion, "Then why did you come here?"
"I was looking for a scroll..." She admitted as she showed him the scroll in her hand, but she didn't open it.
"Were you close with the royal family?" He asked, getting slightly curious.
"Yes. Yes, I was." She answered.
He decided to ask this question, "Did you know Princess Harumi?"
She slightly tensed at her name, "You could say we were close..." She scratched the back of her head nervously, "I was very ashamed that she turned her back against Ninjago..." She admitted truthfully.
"You and me both." Lloyd mumbled, but she heard it, "But still, she didn't deserve to die."
Harumi then mumbled, "Maybe I should've died. I'm only here today to make amends..."
Lloyd thought she said something and asked, "Did you say something?" She shook her head 'no', he sighed, "I'm pretty confident that I could've helped her..."
She looked at him, "What do you think of her?" She asked, curious as to what Lloyd thought of her.
"What do you mean?" He didn't understand her question.
"I mean that, what do you think of her? Of Harumi? Before she, you know..." She explained.
Lloyd was slightly taken aback by the question, "Oh. Harumi and I? We had a good relationship before I found out that she was The Quiet One. I really liked her, if not love her... I still do. But that can't happen since she's gone." He sighed, "I still feel guilty because I always feel that I could've done something to save her from that building, instead of just watching her die."
Harumi looked away in guilt, "I'm sorry for your loss, Lloyd." She said and at the same time, she thought to herself, "He still loves me..."
"It wasn't your fault, nor was it hers. She was just misguided by grief, she never meant any of this." He stated, "I know that she betrayed me, but I still see the good in her. Maybe we could've been something if she was still alive, but she's not so, I gotta let go of her someday. But right now, I'm still holding onto her..."
"I can't believe that Lloyd thinks that. Even after everything I did to him..." She thought as she nodded, "You don't have to let go of her right now if you can't but... Someday you'll have to, you'll find someone else one day." Lloyd chuckled, making the Harumi ask, "What is it?"
"Sorry. It's just that, my friend, Jay, said the exact same thing earlier before I came here." Lloyd said, making her giggle, "You know, I never got your name."
They both stood up and started walking towards the exit, "Oh, my name? It's Quin." She answered.
