Chapter 11: The Map

After spending an hour around the city, Quin went back to work for her second shift. Once Quin finished her second shift, she was preparing to go home. She had said goodbye to the kids and was currently at Mrs. Huxley's desk. Giving her a scroll of instructions, "Here. Evacuate everyone in this facility tomorrow morning. Then try and evacuate as many people around the city as possible." Quin sighed, "You know of my secret. I feel them coming, they're near. Once the ninja and I leave the city, they'll find out my true identity soon enough." She looked away, "I'd hate to trick them like this..."

Mrs. Huxley placed a hand on her shoulder, "There is no other choice. You're doing this for good, Quin. If the ninja know who you are before you set off, they won't believe you." She said.

Quin nodded, "You're right. I'll do this even if it makes them hate me even more." She flipped her hood on, "It's time to prove that I've changed. It's time to prove that I'm not the girl I once was. I've changed and I want the world to know it." She looked back at Mrs. Huxley, "I will turn-"

Mrs. Huxley cut her off in a panic, "Dear, no! If you can prove to everyone in Ninjago that you are a new person, you won't have to do it." She put more emphasis on the word 'It'.

Quin shook her head 'no', "No." She said firmly, "Even if they see me helping the ninja, they won't believe that I've changed. I just want them to know that I changed, I don't need for them to believe it." Her lips turned into a frown. She closed her eyes and sighed.

Mrs. Huxley had a sympathetic look on her face as she turned Quin around to face her, "I know and believe that you've changed. I believe that others will too! But whatever decision you choose, I'll support it." She smiled.

Quin looked at the hand on her shoulder. She looked back at Mrs. Huxley and smiled, "Thanks, Mrs. Huxley." She looked at the window and saw that the sun was near to setting. She looked back at Mrs. Huxley, "I have to go."

Mrs. Huxley nodded in understanding, "I understand." She took her hand off Quin's shoulder and watched as she exited the building.

Quin looked back at her one more time, "Take care, Mrs. Huxley. Tell Mr. Huxley and Mason that I'll miss them." She smiled.

Mrs. Huxley nodded, "Of course, I will. Take care of yourself, Quin." She said her goodbye.

Quin left the building and ran to the Monastery. The streets of Ninjago were really busy. She saw that she won't be able to get back to her temporary home in time like this. She looked around to find any alternatives to get to the Monastery quicker.

Bikes? No time to get one. A bus? No, too crowded. Taxi? None in sight. Walk? Even the sidewalks were too crowded for that. She sighed and groaned in annoyance before thinking, "There has to be some way I can get to the ninja faster. I just got to think." She thought in a hurry.

She looked around again, but being calm wasn't what she was feeling right now. Panic flooded through her as she looked around. Only the sight of Ninjago Citizens clouded her view. She hit her back on a wall of a building. She slumped down on the floor and took a breather. Away from the crowd.

The sound of metal clanking stole her attention. She whipped her head towards the sound and saw someone walking down the emergency stairs of an apartment building. Flashbacks came to her mind. The panic. The mixed thoughts. The sacrifice. The fall.

She shook these thoughts out of her head. If she didn't do this, Ninjago would fall. Ninjago was at stake if she was too scared to do this. Clearing up her mind of her fear, she stood up and ran up the stairs.

"I am not afraid. I am not afraid." She chanted in a whisper over and over again while climbing to the top of the building. In no time, she was at the rooftop of the apartment. There was a building right beside the apartment, not too far.

Quin stepped back and got a running start. She ran and jumped. She landed on her feet and did a front roll to steady herself from falling. She smiled and took a deep breath before running and jumping to another building.

She kept repeating the running and jumping method as it seemed to work for her. That was until she got to a dead end. The next building was pretty far. At least, farther than the other ones. She was nearing the of the city though. After this big jump, it was the home stretch.

She closed her eyes, remembering a certain memory from about 2 to 3 years ago. She opened her eyes and took a deep breath. She looked around the building she was on. There were some taller buildings around her and there were some laundry strings connected to two of the buildings in front of her.

She ran and took a leap of faith. She swung herself from the first string to the second one and to the third one. She swung herself from the third string and landed on a ladder at the side of a building. Unfortunately, the ladder was out of shape and as soon as force hit it, it cracked.

Her eyes widened in shock and fear. The drop-down from where she was to the ground below was around 5 stories high. The ladder squeaked as it started breaking. Quin looked around, desperate to find something to grab onto.

Nothing.

The ladder finally gave out. She closed her eyes and prepared for the fall. But it never came. She felt someone's hand holding hers, keeping her from falling. They lifted her up onto the platform and she was speechless. The shock of her almost dying still in her. She crouched and looked down at the fallen ladder.

"You should be careful. It's not safe to be swinging yourself like that." A familiar voice spoke up. She turned to the source of the voice and was met with a familiar pair of bright green eyes.

"Lloyd!" She exclaimed, shocked from her near-fatal experience and from Lloyd's sudden appearance, "What are you doing here?"

"I should be asking you the same question, Quin. Me and the guys have been worried sick for you. It's almost 5 p.m and you told us that your second shift ends at 4!" Lloyd said, worry plastered on his face, "What were you doing jumping on top of buildings anyways?" He asked.

"The streets were too crowded. I had to find a way to get back to the Monastery and jumping on the rooftops was my only choice." Quin explained.

Lloyd looked down and then looked back at Quin, "Well, don't do it again. It can be dangerous, even for someone who's used to it." His eyes turned dead serious, "Trust me. I know." He frowned as he looked at the drop.

"And you know because..?" She started.

Lloyd looked at her, "What just happened to you," He gestured to her jumping from string to string and to the ladder, "Happened to me once. Not even my friends know about it. I was alone with Rumi when that happened. Thankfully, she saved my life." He smiled.

Quin smiled back, "Then I guess I was lucky that you came at the exact right moment." She grinned sheepishly and sighed gratefully, "I'm sorry about that. I just had something important to tell you guys back at the Monastery." She turned to him.

Lloyd looked back at her, "What kind of important thing?" He asked.

Quin gave him a look, "I'll explain at the Monastery. Now come on!" She started jumping to another roof.

Lloyd looked at her, "Hey! Wait up!" He called to her.

After a few minutes of jumping, they climbed back to the ground and started walking to the Monastery. Soon enough, they made it to the top of the mountain and opened the doors to the Monastery.

"Why is the Monastery located at such a high ground? Couldn't they have built it somewhere lower, or at least built a way to get up much faster?" Quin complained and asked at the same time.

Lloyd shrugged, "It's good cardio. Anyways, I'll round up the guys in the living room. We'll be waiting when you're ready." He wiped his forehead and looked at Quin's, "Maybe we both should go and take a shower first." He winced at his choice of words as he whispered, "That didn't come out right..."

Quin nodded, "Sure. If you and the boys aren't there yet, I'll wait." She smiled and walked into the Monastery. Lloyd was looking at her. Correction, staring at her.

Lloyd let out a breath he didn't even realize he was holding. He also walked into the Monastery.

After he finished showering, he slipped on another gi on. He left his room to go and find the other boys. It took him and Quin 20 to 30 minutes to get to the Monastery. So now it was almost time for dinner. He figured the boys would be in the dining room.

He opened the door and saw Kai, Cole, and Jay waiting for Zane to finish cooking. PIXAL was either cooking with Zane or inventing something new in their secret base. The 3 boys in the room noticed Lloyd's arrival and waved to him, "Hey, Lloyd." "Hi."

"Hey, guys. Where are PIXAL and Zane?" He asked.

"Zane's cooking and PIX is probably helping him." Cole answered.

Lloyd nodded, "You guys mind coming to the living room? Quin said she has something to show us."

The Fire Master, Earth Master, and Lightning Master looked at each other and shrugged.

"Sure."

"Got nothing else to do."

"Why not?"

They all replied at the same time. Lloyd smiled, "Great! When Zane's done, tell him and PIX to come as well."

He closed the door and walked to the living room. He slid the door open and saw Quin sitting on the couch, reading something. Curious to what it is, he snuck up behind her and tried to read it. Keyword, 'tried'.

Quin all of a sudden spoke up, "There you are, Lloyd." Startling the Green Ninja, "I was wondering when you were going to show up. I was starting to think you went to bed." She smiled as she refolds the scroll and placed it on the coffee table in front of her.

"How'd you know I was right behind you?" Lloyd asked.

Quin chuckled, "The door. When you slid it open, it creaked a bit." She looked at him, smiling.

Lloyd rubbed his neck shyly, "The guys are waiting for Zane and PIX. They should be here soon." He replied.

The door slid open again and 5 figures walked into the room. Kai, Cole, Jay, Zane, and PIXAL. Quin smiled at Lloyd and mouthed a 'Thank you'. Lloyd gave her a nod as to say 'You're welcome'. Everyone walked into the room and sat on the couch.

"I heard there is something you want to tell us." PIXAL spoke up.

Quin nodded. She took the scroll that she placed on the table and unrolled it. The content showed to be a map.

"It's a map?" Cole asked.

Quin nodded in confirmation, "Correct."

"What does it lead to?" Kai asked, taking the scroll from her hands, "Zane? PIX? Can you analyze?"

Kai handed the scroll to the nindroids. It took a few seconds for the robot couple to reply. They shook their heads, "No, we can't."

Lloyd turned to Quin, "Quin?"

She perked up at the mention of her name, "Hmm?"

"Do you know where this map leads to?" He finished his question.

Quin looked down. It looked like she was debating on what to do. She finally shook her head, "No." She simply said, "All I know is that it leads to the Endless Sea."

Lloyd nodded. Jay sighed, "Guess that means we have no leads... Oh, well."

"I still don't get it." Lloyd spoke, making everyone direct their attention to him, "How is this map important if you don't know what it leads to?" He asked.

Quin shook her head, "I don't know. I just have this feeling that something's gonna happen. Something bad." She admitted.

"Gut feelings are usually correct. So I'm suggesting we go and find out what this treasure is." Kai smiled which made Quin smile.

Lloyd seemed hesitant, "I don't know. Who'll protect Ninjago while we're gone?" He asked.

Zane looked at him, "It's been pretty quiet this past year, Lloyd. There are still some criminal activities from now and then, but it's nothing the police can't handle." He assured.

Jay nodded, "It's been quiet. I'm up for an adventure. Who else is in?" He asked, putting his hand out.

Kai slapped his hand over Jay's, "I'm in. It's about time we go on another adventure." He smirked.

Cole cracked his fists, "Let's do this!" He placed his hand in the pile.

"I'm in." Zane declared as he rested his hand on top of Cole's.

PIXAL came towards them, "If Zane's in, then I'm in." She set down her metallic hand on top of her partner's.

Quin positioned her hand over theirs. She turned to Lloyd who still looked hesitant, "Come on, Lloyd. Please?" She pleads.

Lloyd looked at the pile of hands. He looked away for a second before placing his hand on top of theirs, "I guess I'm in." He smiled weakly at Quin who smiled brightly at him.

"We leave tomorrow at dawn. Are we going to bring anyone else on this trip?" Quin asked, hands still piled on top of each other.

Kai thought of it for a moment, "No- Oh, wait! Can Skylor come along?" He asked like a child asking their parent to buy them a toy.

"Sure! Anyone else?" Quin agreed.

"If it's okay by her," Cole started, "Can Vania come too? If she can come, that is." He smiled.

Quin nodded, "The more the merrier." She beamed.

Lloyd smiled at the sight of her being so happy and excited, "Okay. We leave tomorrow at dawn." He pushed everyone's hand down before yelling, "Ninja..."

"Go!" Everybody in the room yelled, breaking the hand pile while jumping and cheering in excitement. Their dinner was brought to the living room to celebrate.

Once they were done, everyone started to depart from the living room until the last ones there were Quin and Lloyd. Quin was at the door, about to leave, when she gave one last glance at Lloyd, who smiled. Quin smiled back and said, "Goodnight, Lloyd." And she left, leaving the door open for him.

He had a warm smile on his face as he slightly looked up and closed his eyes, "Goodnight, Quin." He whispered, satisfied with his day.
