3. Reign
Percy
I lay on the bed that Zoe and I had been sharing for several years. I played with her silky black hair while I thought about what had happened these past few years as King.
I created an army of monsters and undid the mist that was placed upon the mortals by the Gods centuries ago. Then I had made the mortals my slaves. I had also started to renovate Olympus to my liking. The Gods had kept it too plain and way too boring.
I felt Zoe stir and I smiled as she turned to face me, opening her volcanic black eyes. She snugged closer to me and I wrapped my arms around her. "Good morning, love." I whispered in her ear. "Good morning, my King." Zoe murmured back as she reached up to wrap her arms around me as well.
Footsteps approached our chamber door and a loud knock resounded throughout the room. I smiled wryly and pulled Zoe's slender frame closer to me. Poseidon had his daily routine.
"Come in." I said and the door swung open, light flooding into our dimly lit room. Poseidon stood in the doorway, accompanied by one of my members from the army. Poseidon's eyes widened when he saw Zoe and I in bed, both of us barely dressed. Zoe was wearing a crop top and really short shorts, while I was just wearing pants.
"Sir, I brought him here as requested every morning." The demigod said, averting his eyes from Zoe and I. I laughed lightly and replied "Thank you, Aran. You don't need to be embarrassed around us."
Aran nodded before turning and leaving the room. Poseidon still stood dumbstruck in the doorway. I narrowed my eyes at him and gently pulled away from Zoe. "Well? What are you just standing there for? Go and do your duties!"
Poseidon swallowed before walking into the room to pick up Zoe and I's discarded clothing on the ground. I sat up and slid out of bed, before pointing my hand at the closet. The door swung open and a shirt zoomed into my hand. I slipped the shirt on as Zoe climbed out of bed as well, yawning and rubbing her eyes.
I held out my hand and one of Zoe's shirts appeared in my hand. I tossed it to her and she put it on. "So beautiful, what do you plan to do today?" I asked as she grabbed my hand, both of us heading to the bathroom.
"Aside from our daily routine? I don't know, perhaps we could go on a mini trip to somewhere in the world." Zoe said slyly as we went about brushing our teeth and washing our faces. "That sounds like a wonderful idea. I'll leave Ethan in charge, along with Alex and Jake. I'm just going to hope that they don't blow anything up." I said, remembering the last time I left those three in charge.
Zoe and I had left Olympus for about an hour to oversee the mortals and monsters. When we took the elevator back up to the throne room, I found that a giant hole had been blasted through the wall. Flames had coated the ground, and the whole ceiling had collapsed.
Alex and Jake had a fight against Ethan, which resulted in the twins of Hyperion setting everything on fire and Ethan blasting a giant ass hole through the wall that brought the ceiling down.
I smiled as I remembered how furious I had been. I had used my powers to extinguish the flames before I yelled at the three shameful members of my army.
I was brought back to reality by Zoe sighing and saying "Let's just hope they don't. Shall we leave, my love?" "Yeah." I said, grabbing Zoe's hand once again and running out the bathroom. Poseidon was over by our bed, smoothing out the rumpled sheets and pulling the bedcovers back up.
I stopped at the door to our chamber. Zoe gave me a questioning look but I ignored it and turned to look at my ex-father. "If you try anything, or ruin anything, I'll throw you in the dungeons like I've done several times. I'm sure you'll be happy to hear the painful, agonized screams of Annabeth."
Poseidon paled and he paused in making our bed. Zoe tugged on my hand and I turned and exited our chamber. Zoe and I made our way to the throne room where members of my army were assembled. They snapped to attention once we arrived, and stayed absolutely silent until Zoe and I took our respective seats on our thrones.
"I assume everything is in order and running smoothly, yes?" I asked, focusing my sole attention on Ethan and Octavian. The two of them nodded quickly, clutching their weapons. "Yes, Perseus. Ares and Hestia are doing their duties without compliant." Octavian answered with a slight grin.
"That's good. Those two are getting along nicely. I suppose I can reward them for such good behaviour unlike Poseidon." I ran a hand through my hair before I looked down at the members of my army again. "Ethan, Alex, Jake, step forwards."
The three that I called stepped forwards at my command. Ethan removed his helmet and blew his hair out of his face. "What do you need, oh mighty King?" I narrowed my eyes at him. "I will throw you off Olympus if you address me like that again." Ethan chuckled before raising his hands in defeat.
"Zoe and I are planning to go on a short trip to somewhere in the world. I'm putting you three in charge." I watched as their faces lit up in joy and with excitement. "But I do remember the last time I put you three in charge. You destroyed the throne room and set the floor on fire."
"That was an accident." Alex said bluntly. "We promise we won't do that again." I eyed them for a moment before I exhaled and leaned back in my throne. "Alright, fine. I'll give you all another chance. But I swear, if we come back and the throne room is demolished once again, I'll be glad to hear your screams as you plummet to your death.'
Ethan, Alex, and Jake paled before I burst out laughing. "I'm just kidding. I won't kill you guys, you mean a lot to me. But seriously, don't do anything stupid."
"You can count on us." Jake said, giving me a salute as his eyes twinkled warmly. I nodded before saying "Dismissed. Go back to your regular duties." The members of my army turned and left, and I looked at Zoe with a smile. "Come on, my Queen. We still have our duties to fulfil before we can have that mini vacation."
"I enjoy doing our duties, though." Zoe said playfully as we both stepped off of our thrones. "Yes, I know you do, and so do I." I replied as I teleported us to the dungeons. We made our way to the last cell where a girl with dirty blonde hair and a scarred face greeted us. Her clothes were in tatters and whip marks and scars littered her bruised and bloody body.
The girl heard us approaching but her head remained down. I frowned as I opened the cell door and stepped inside. "Good morning, Annabeth. Did you have a lovely sleep?" Zoe asked wickedly as I held out my hand. The cabinet doors opened and a dagger appeared in my hand. I smiled as I pressed my hand against the sharp point of the dagger.
The dagger glowed bright green before I held it up to examine my work. Annabeth remained silent, and that made my Queen angry. "Answer me when I'm talking to you!" Zoe yelled as she grabbed Annabeth's chin and lifted her face violently. Annabeth stared at Zoe, her dull, gray eyes lifeless.
I don't know why I restored her eyesight. I guess I wanted her to see my face as I taunted her and tortured her.
"Answer.Me." Zoe said harshly as she tightened her grip on Annabeth's chin. Annabeth grimaced and she muttered "I can't sleep in-in these conditions." Zoe smiled smugly and she released the daughter of Athena. "I know you can't, honey. That's why I asked you."
Annabeth didn't respond again, but Zoe turned and looked at me, a gleam in her eyes. I nodded and stepped forwards, the poisoned dagger clutched in my grip. Annabeth noticed what I held and she shrunk against the wall. "No, please. Please-" Her pleads fell on deaf ears as I reared my arm back, sinking the knife straight into Annabeth's stomach.
Annabeth arched her back and screamed, her throat already raw from screaming these past few years. I left the dagger in her stomach, the poison working it's way into her system. That wouldn't kill her, though, The ichor in her veins would repel the poison.
"We're done for today. We have to go check up on Reyna, Hestia, and Ares, and then go and see how Jason and Frank are doing their jobs." I said. Zoe nodded before grabbing my hand. Our bodies dissolved into mist and we appeared in the training arena for the demigods and demi-titans in my army.
A girl with messy black hair was standing off to the side, restrained by two demigods as a demi-titan practiced their hand to hand combat on her. The girl had tears running down her face and her expression was contorted into pain.
"Just make sure you don't kill her, Crystal." I said to the demi-titan. Crystal, a daughter of Oceanus, smirked and flipped her long hair over her shoulder. "Don't worry, chief. I'll take special care of our dear friend."
Reyna growled angrily but she couldn't do anything as Crystal delivered another punch to her stomach. Reyna groaned in agony and the two demigods holding her laughed cruelly.
I looked around and saw Ares and Hestia delivering weapons to other demigods and demi-titans. I smiled at that. Ares and Hestia were less rebellious than the other slaves and prisoners I have in my care.
"Everything is in order here." Zoe murmured as she wrapped her arms around my waist. I sighed and nodded. "Indeed. We have to go and see Jason and Frank and then we can visit dear old Thunder pants."
Zoe chuckled at the nickname I had given Zeus and our bodies dissolved once again, appearing in the hallways leading to the Olympian throne room. I spotted a blonde male sweeping the hallway with a broom. Jason stiffened and looked up, his eyes narrowing as he saw me.
"Ah, that's no way to look at your King." I said wryly. Jason growled but he remained silent. He bowed his head towards me in greeting, though I could clearly tell he hated it. I grinned smugly and continued "Are your doing your duty well?"
"As well as I ever could." Jason said through gritted teeth. I shrugged before turning to face the other hallway. Zoe was standing there, talking to Frank.
Once she was done, I grabbed her hand and teleported us to Mount Othrys. As soon as I regained the feeling in my body, I saw Zeus struggling underneath the weight of the sky. I stepped towards him and saw that sweat was pouring down his face, and his knees were digging painfully into the ground. The muscles in his arms were bulging.
"Hello, Uncle." I drawled as I summoned a square of ambrosia. Zeus merely glowered when he saw me. I flicked my wrist and the square of ambrosia floated out of my hand and over to Zeus. "Open up like a good child." Zeus seethed with rage but he knew he would need the strength to continue holding the sky. He opened his mouth and the ambrosia flew straight into his mouth.
Zeus nearly choked on it, but he managed to chew and swallow it. He glared at me but I laughed and turned to my beautiful Queen. "Are we ready to go, my love?" "Of course." Zoe whispered into my ear.
I grinned and wrapped my arms around her, both of us disappearing into thin air.
