29. Showdown

Zoe

I sat on my throne, my hand held in a tight grip by my King. Percy's army had all assembled in the throne room, all of them equipped with celestial bronze armour and their weapons.

"Nico Di Angelo is bringing the rebel army towards Olympus as I speak." Percy said, breaking the silence. He let go of my hand and stood up, his green eyes suddenly very bright. "And in doing so, that will be their downfall."

I watched as his army all cheered at his words, raising their weapons high in the air. My eyes roamed past all the faces of the demigods and demi-titans, until my gaze landed on Phoebe.

The ex-huntress was standing in the back next to Jessica, her hands tightly gripping the shaft of her bow. Her face was expressionless, but I knew she was thinking whether or not to stay with Percy or betray him.

A small smile appeared on my lips as I drummed my fingers on the armrest of my throne. If Phoebe decided to defect over to the rebel army, then she will die.

Percy will make sure of that.

My King stretched his arms out, silencing the cheering coming from his army. A wicked grin crossed his face as he snapped his fingers.

Black armour appeared on his lithe, muscular body, and he reached up to take the helmet off. Percy tucked it under his arm before twisting the bracelet on his wrist, his scythe materializing into his hand.

I followed his example by touching the ring he had given me on my index finger. Silver armour appeared and I unsheathed my hunting knives, laying them down on my lap.

"I have complete faith in your skills to defeat the rebel army. Zoe, my Queen, you'll be accompanying them, yes?" Percy asked, glancing at me briefly.  I smiled and nodded.

"Good. I'll be staying on Olympus, waiting for Nico's arrival. He'll have Hades with him as well and at least two other Gods to cover them." Percy took a deep breath, running his hand through his hair.

Alex and Jake looked at each other before Jake said "Are you sure you won't need backup? I know Octavian asked about that before....."

Percy leaned on his scythe, raising an eyebrow at Jake's question. "I know what I'm doing, but thanks for the offer. Now, I want all of you to get out and get ready for the rebel army. They're going to need to use the elevator to get up here."

"Can't we just intercept them on the ground before they use the elevator?" Crystal asked, frowning slightly. "Won't that be easier, My Lord?"

Percy chuckled, walking backwards to sit down on his throne once more. He placed his scythe on his lap like I did with my hunting knives before answering Crystal's question.

"It would be, yes, but I want to give them at least the chance to reach Olympus. Then we can finish them off as quickly as possible." Crystal nodded in agreement, a dark glint in her eyes. "That's a good idea."

Percy pointed at the open double doors that led out of the throne room, and with an unspoken command, the army turned and filed out. As they did so, I sheathed my hunting knives and got up, moving to stand in front of my boyfriend.

He smiled at me, removing his scythe from his lap. When the scythe had been moved, I practically jumped onto his lap.

"Whoa." Percy said as I wrapped my arms around his neck. "Are you trying to strangle me?"

I grinned and tightened my grip even more. "Something like that. I'm strangling you with my love." Percy chuckled dryly, putting his hands around my waist.

"I don't like the idea of you staying here alone without backup." I pouted. "But I know you'll be fine."

Percy nodded, looking distracted for a bit before he turned his attention back to me. "I also want you to keep a close eye on Phoebe when the rebel army comes to attack. Let's see if she makes her move."

I kissed him firmly on the lips before responding. "Of course. I've already planned to do that from the start." Percy winked at me and removed his hands from around my waist.

"Go and make me proud, my Queen."

Nico

I stood with the rebel army at the bottom of the Empire State Building, my sword clutched tightly in my hand. Standing next to me was Will, his bow out and his quiver of arrows slung over his shoulder. His celestial bronze sword was strapped to his waist.

His blue eyes were trained on the double doors leading into the main lobby of the Empire State Building, a frown on his face. I could tell he was nervous, and I was as well.

I mean, who wouldn't be nervous when we're facing an army of highly trained demigods and demi-titans, along with a demi-primordial?

"We have to go in two groups in order for all of us to fit into the elevator." Hades said, his voice ringing out amongst the anxious crowd of Gods and demigods. "I'll go with the second group, along with my son, Artemis, and Apollo. Please split yourselves into the two groups."

The crowd of demigods slowly dispersed, forming into two giant groups just like my father ordered. I hung back with Will, Apollo, Artemis, my dad, Clarisse, and a bunch of others as Athena and Atlas joined the group that would be heading up to Olympus first.

Hades used his magic to blast open the doors to the Empire State Building, and to my relief, the main lobby was deserted. Even the security guard that was usually at the front desk was absent.

Hades didn't even bother retrieving the key to use the elevator. He stalked over to the buttons, and pressed his hand against the console. His hand glowed black before the button with the number 500 appeared.

My dad pressed the button and the elevator doors opened with a soft hiss. He stood back and said "First group, you're up. When you get to Olympus, wait for us before advancing."

Athena and Atlas led the group in, the two immortals standing in the back of the elevator as the other demigods filed  in. I caught Atlas' gaze before the doors slid shut.

Hades took a deep breath before turning and looking at the rest of us who were part of the second group. "Now we wait for the elevator to come back down."

"I'm surprised Percy didn't try to intercept us before we even got to the elevator." Clarisse muttered, examining her spear. "He could've made this a lot harder for us."

"He's mocking us. He thinks he have no chance of defeating him, so he lets us get to the elevator first." Artemis growled, her silver eyes flashing with anger. "Arrogant male."

Apollo remained silent, a thoughtful look on his face as he played with the string of his bow. He finally raised his eyes to meet his twin's, a small smile appearing on his lips. "Hey, I'm not complaining. At least we get to even reach the elevator."

The Moon Goddess huffed but didn't give a response to Apollo. I glanced at Will and stretched my arm out, touching him lightly on the shoulder. He flinched in surprise and looked down at me.

"Hey. We'll be fine. I won't let anything happen to you." I murmured, earning a strained grin from the son of Apollo. "That's a hard promise to keep, Mr. Di Angelo. Especially in this war. Anything could happen."

My eyes widened slightly before glaring at him. "What's that supposed to mean? You're not going to die on me, I won't let you!"

Will raised his hands at my outburst, arching an eyebrow. "Hey hey, calm down. I'm just saying that anything could happen in a war. Wars are unpredictable."

I swatted him on the shoulder just as Hades called out "Let's go everyone, the elevator has returned."

I turned away from Will to look at the elevator doors sliding open. The demigods headed inside, pressing against the back of the elevator to make as much room as possible. Will and I were the last ones to enter, and as we did so, the doors closed.

The elevator started to move up, and as it did, some very evil-sounding music came blasting from the speakers. "Perseus has horrible taste in music." Apollo grumped. "I can't believe he replaced my old soundtrack!"

Artemis sighed heavily and muttered something about insufferable twins.

I felt Will edge closer to me, and his shoulder lightly bumped against mine. I looked at him and he gave me a wink.

Some of the tension disappeared in my shoulders, and I playfully stuck my tongue out at him. Nearby, I heard Clarisse snort at our actions, making me resist the urge to smack the daughter of Ares.

As the elevator doors opened, I saw the first group of demigods facing the front doors leading to Olympus. They were all pale and sweaty with fear, but their eyes shone with determination.

Athena and Atlas greeted us as we met up with the first group. "Perseus must know we're here, where-" Before she could finish her sentence, the doors to Olympus were flung open, and out marched the first few demigods and demi-titans from Percy's army.

I watched as more and more of them spilled out from the castle, calmly walking down the steps to face our army. They all wore armour as well, and they all carried some type of weapon.

Watching as their numbers slowly grew larger and larger, I tightened my grip on the hilt of my sword. I knew Percy's army would outnumber ours, but I wasn't prepared to see that happen in real life.

Soon, the last few demigods and demi-titans left the castle to join the group, and as they did so, silence echoed throughout the two armies. I shifted uneasily from one foot to the other.

Suddenly, I heard approaching footsteps and fury bubbled up inside of me as a girl with long, black hair made her appearance, walking out of Olympus to stand on the steps behind Percy's army.

Zoe Nightshade smiled mockingly at us, pulling out two hunting knives from the sheaths strapped to her waist. She wore the same silver armour from the time she attacked Olympus.

"Finally ready to play?" The ex-huntress asked. "We've been waiting for a long time."

"If you weren't always relying on Perseus, I would have already put an arrow through your head." Artemis snarled at her. "Fight us without him, and let's see how long you can maintain that mocking smile!"

Zoe's eye twitched, the smile disappearing from her face. "I do not always rely on Percy." She spat. "You know nothing, Artemis."

The Goddess grinned at that, her own hunting knives appearing in her hands. "Oh, what I do know is that you're a coward. Hiding behind the army, and hiding behind Perseus."

Zoe gave a feral snarl before shouting "SLAUGHTER THEM ALL! EVERY SINGLE LAST ONE OF THEM!"

Percy's army charged forwards at Zoe's command, clashing with the first few demigods from our army. I went to attack as well, but before I could reach any of the opposing demigods and demi-titans, someone grabbed my arm and yanked me back.

I glanced back to see Hades glaring at me. Standing next to him was Artemis and Apollo, and when I saw them, I suddenly remembered the plan.

"Sorry!" I shouted, reaching out to grab Apollo's wrist. "I forgot!"

Hades rolled his eyes before touching Artemis on the shoulder, both of them dissolving into shadows. I was about to do the same for Apollo, but paused when I saw Will shoot down two opponents at once.

Apollo noticed that, and he yelled into my ear. "Come on, we can't have distractions right now! We need to stick to the plan or else we're doomed!"

I gritted my teeth, turned my back on Will, and gripped Apollo's wrist. As I did so, I focused my energy into the shadows surrounding us. I felt Apollo and I being pulled away by an unseen force, and before I knew it, we were inside Olympus.

Hades and Artemis were standing in front of us, both of them glaring at something, or someone. I followed their gaze, and my heart nearly stopped.

Standing in the middle of the hallway, blocking our way, was a familiar raven haired teen with cold, merciless sea green eyes. He was wearing black armour, and a large, deadly scythe was clutched firmly in his right hand.

Percy Jackson's eyes swept over our small group before landing on me. He smiled, leaning on his weapon.

"Going somewhere?"

Another one of my books is coming to an end. I'm sad.

Also because I don't know what to write about next.
