Chapter 15: A Sacrifice

Angelica stepped through the wall first and she disappeared to the other side. I reached out and touched the wall, and my hand went right through. It felt thirty degrees cooler.

"Are you coming, Bekah?" Angelica asked.

"Ya," I said, walking through the 'wall.'

The cold caused my arms and legs to break out in goosebumps. There was a dark stairway leading down, it was made of stone. I couldn't see the bottom and I didn't know how far down they went. Don't be scared. I thought, Don't be scared.  I already knew what would happen if I was.

I have no idea how long we had been walking down the stairs, but with every step, it grew colder. The air started to get humid and the stairs were getting steeper. I thought we had been walking for a hour until the stairs ended and their was a dead end.

Angelica turned to me and said, "Here, put these earplugs in," and she handed me earplugs and continued with saying, "they will try to lure you near the cages to pull you in, do not listen and do not look. There is only one way out, we cannot come back the way we came. As soon as we enter this passage will become a solid wall. Just keep looking forward."

"Okay," I said, putting the earplugs in. Angelica and I stepped through at the same time. Even with the earplugs in I could still hear faint yelling and begging. I heard a few, "Let me out!" and "Rebekah please!" I knew I couldn't look, but I was dying to know what a Night Walker looked like. I couldn't let me curiosity get the best of me.

I kept walking, Angelica was in front of me by a few feet. I looked at the ground, it was the same stone as the stairs. Dark gray, cold and uneven. I looked forward again and focused on Angelica's green dress and short red hair. I noticed something I hadn't seen before; since her dress exposed more of her back, I saw something that looked like Victoria's tattoo, only it was a different design. Instead of a spade, it had a turtle.

"Rebekah!" I heard someone say to my left. It sounded like Victoria.

"Bekah, help! Crystal trapped us in here!" That voice sounded like Beatrice.

How could Crystal do something like that! It was torture! That's where Victoria and Beatrice went. I turned to my left and saw Victoria and Beatrice in a big metal cage. The bars were two inches thick.

"I'll get you out!" I said, rushing to them.

I was a foot away from the cage when I heard Angelica scream, "Bekah! No!" Even through the earplugs I could hear the Night Walkers start screaming even louder.

Victoria and Beatrice started changing. Their hair retracted into their heads and spikes replaced it. Their skin was now black and leathery. They were double the height they used to be, and super skinny. There was no muscles, fat, or organs, just skin on bone. Their eyes were pure black and nostrils were slits.

They reached through the bars and I closed my eyes and awaited death. My head slammed against the ground and I heard Angelica scream, causing me to open my eyes.

Angelica had pushed me out of the way and was now being dragged inside the cage were she started to transform.

"B-Bekah---take this---run---no matter what---I say," she said in between breaths. A white square slid across the floor. I picked it up, it was the envelope that had been under my bed the first day of school.

"I won't leave you!" I said, she was almost fully transformed into a Night Walker.

"Run..." Her voice was demonic. Her pupils started growing, until their was no white and no green left.

I started running as I heard her scream, "Bekah! I'm fine now, come back!" I realized that when she pushed me, my earplugs had fallen out. I had no protection for what these Night Walkers had to say. Angelica was not fine! She was a Night Walker.

There must've been hundreds of Night Walkers, and all of them took the form of Angelica. They were taunting me to come closer as I ran down the massive hallway. It was 50 feet wide and 100 feet high.

I reached the end of it and saw a painting. I reached out my hand and touched it, my hand went through it. Everything was a blur as I ran up the stairs, through the hallways, and into my room. As soon as I hit the bed, lights out.
