CHAPTER FIVE

Tutor John's office was on the second floor of the school building, which was above the school hall on the first floor. There was a staircase leading to the second floor, which was visible as soon as you stepped into the school hall. The second floor was where the principal and all the teachers' offices were located, and my class was on the third floor.

After the assembly, I went to my class and asked Michael where Tutor John's office was. He told me, and I decided to go there during the first break to tell Tutor John about my encounter with Jessica.

A few hours of teaching passed, and the bell finally rang for the first break. I rushed to Tutor John's office, hoping to catch him before he left for his break which I succeeded in doing. His door was open, and he was sitting at his desk, working on something. I knocked on the doorframe to get his attention.

"Good Afternoon, Tutor John," I said. "Hello, Paul," he replied, looking up from his desk. "Is everything alright?" he asked, noticing the worried look on my face. "Well, that's what I wanted to talk to you about," I said, and then I told him about the encounter with Jessica.

I explained to him how she was acting strange and talking to a doll, and how Michael and Amanda had told me to stay away from her.

"That is quite concerning," Tutor John said, "I will look into it and speak to her. I don't want you to worry, though. If you ever feel unsafe or uncomfortable around her, please let me know right away." I felt relieved to hear this. "Thank you, Tutor John," I said. "No problem, Paul," he replied.

He then looked at me intently, his eyes lingering on me for what seemed like a long time. I began to feel uncomfortable under his gaze, which remained neutral, giving no indication of what he was thinking. I was about to speak up when he finally broke the silence.

"Paul, I just want to make sure you know that you can always come to me if you need to talk about anything. Even if it's something that's not related to school."

I felt a sense of relief wash over me. "Thanks, Tutor John. I appreciate that." I paused, feeling more confident now that I had his support. "I don't want you to feel like you're alone," he continued. "I'm here for you, no matter what." I couldn't help but smile at his words. It was reassuring to know that I had someone like Tutor John in my corner. I felt like I could take on anything, even Jessica.

I was about to ask him if he knew anything about Jessica when the bell rang, signaling the end of the break. Tutor John looked at his watch and sighed. "Time to get back to class, I'm afraid." With that, I left for my class.

While in class, Michael asked me how my conversation with Tutor John went, and I told him everything. Amanda, who had no idea what had happened, listened intently as I spoke. As I was telling them, Jessica walked back into the classroom and we stopped talking about her. The rest of our classes before our second break were quite interesting. We had Home Economics with Tutor Sandra, a young and vibrant teacher. After that, we had Basic Technology with Mr. Matthew.

During our second break, Michael, Amanda, and I went to buy snacks. After that, we played around and talked about everything and anything under the sun. We had so much fun that we didn't realize how quickly the break went by. Before we knew it, the bell rang and we all got up to go back to class.

As the three of us were walking back to class, I could feel someone's gaze on me. It was Jessica, but I tried to ignore it. As I was about to enter the classroom, someone ran past me, brushing my shoulder as they went by. I felt a small jolt of pain, but it quickly faded. I turned to see who it was and saw that it was Rebecca. She had stopped a few steps into the classroom, as if she had realized that she had bumped into someone.

When Rebecca saw that it was me, she glared at me and hissed before going to her seat. Amanda and Michael, who had seen what happened, looked at me with concern.

"It seems you guys have some kind of beef," Amanda said. I didn't respond. I just looked at her. "I don't know what her problem is, but she should go and fuck herself ," Michael said. "Yeah, but there's no need to use such vulgar language," Amanda replied. "You're right. I'm sorry," Michael said, looking contrite. With that, we all went to our seat.

Soon after, our computer science teacher came in. Her appearance took me by surprise.

She had a chocolate-colored skin that shone beautifully. She looked so young - more like a girl in her mid-20s - and her height and slim build made her look like a model. She had long black hair with beautifully natural eyelids that covered her brown eyes. She was wearing a beautiful long red silk gown with a pair of shiny red shoes. In her arms was a black kitten with yellow eyes.

She walked slowly to the front of the class and placed the kitten on the teachers desk. She turned to face us and smiled.

"Good afternoon, class," she said. We all stood up, greeting aloud while hitting our desks. "Good morning, Tutor Beatrice. We are happy to see you," my classmates greeted. I didn't know her name, so I just said what I heard my classmates saying. In case some of you are wondering, that's how we greeted teachers at John Felix Academy back then.

Tutor Beatrice smiled at our greetings and said, "I'm sorry for not coming to teach you guys yesterday. I was not around because I had something very urgent to do at home and I had to take permission from the principal," she continued. "But let's not dwell on that. We have a lot of interesting topics to cover today. So, please bring out your notebooks and textbooks, then turn to page 45 in your textbooks," she said.

As we all started flipping through our books, I realized that I hadn't gotten my textbook yet. Luckily, My seatmate, Amanda, allowed me to share with her.

Tutor Beatrice's teaching went on and I enjoyed it. I thought to myself, "What a good teacher." Then another thought came to my head when I stared at her kitten. I found it odd for a teacher to be carrying a pet around the school, let alone a kitten. It was my first time seeing something like that. I wondered if it was even allowed. Just then, Tutor Beatrice's kitten let out a little mew and jumped down from her desk.

He started walking around the room, sniffing at the other students' feet. One student let out a laugh, breaking the silence. Tutor Beatrice quickly scooped the kitten up.

"I'm sorry about that," she said, a little flustered. "I was not expecting him to jump out from the desk. It seems his training has not fully paid off yet. I hope he didn't disturb you too much."
"No, no," several students replied at once. "He's adorable!" one of the girls squealed.
"Thank you," Tutor Beatrice said with a smile. "Now, let's get back to business."

She went on with her teaching, but I couldn't stop thinking about how strange it was to see a kitten in a classroom. But I had to admit, he was pretty cute. The bell then rang, signaling the end of her class. She then left the classroom with her Kitten.

While waiting for the next teacher, I queried Amanda and Michael about Tutor Beatrice.

"How many years has she been teaching here?" I inquired. "Around a decade. That's what she mentioned," Amanda responded. "She's quite popular among the students."
"Hmm, that's quite a long time and she seems very young. I'm curious about her age. Nevertheless, I can understand her popularity," I remarked. "She's really engaging and makes the material interesting."
"Yeah, she's fantastic," Michael chimed in. "As for her age, it's a bit of a mystery. I'd guess she's in her mid-30s. But setting that aside, she excels at conveying even the most complex concepts. She's patient and ensures everyone grasps the material. Undoubtedly, one of the finest teachers I've encountered."

Just then, the next teacher walked in and we all turned our attention to the front of the room. I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed that Miss Beatrice's class was over.

After the next class ended, it was time for the second break. I was looking forward to having some time to relax and chat with my friends. I met up with Amanda and Michael in the school courtyard. We sat on a bench, chatting about our classes and what we had planned for the weekend. I had never hung out in the courtyard before, but it was a nice change of scenery.

As we were chatting, I noticed Rebecca and her friends sitting on another bench nearby. I saw her looking over at us, and I tried to ignore her. But I couldn't help but feel a little uneasy. The tension in the air was palpable, and I could tell that something was going on. I tried to focus on my conversation with Amanda and Michael, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen. Was Rebecca planning to do something to me? I tried to put the thought out of my mind, but I couldn't help but feel a sense of dread.

As I was lost in my thoughts, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching. I turned around to see Rebecca and her friends walking towards us. I noticed Rebecca was at the front of the group, a smug smile on her face.

As they got closer, my uneasiness turned to fear. What was she going to do? I could feel my heart pounding in my chest.

"What do you want?" I asked, my voice trembling. I tried to sound confident, but I could hear the fear in my voice.

"Oh, I'm just here to chat," Rebecca said, her voice dripping with malice. I glanced over at Amanda and Michael, and they both looked as nervous as I felt.

They were both looking at me with concern. I wanted to tell them it was okay, but I was too scared to speak. Rebecca and her friends stopped right in front of us, and Rebecca stood there, staring at me. The silence was deafening. I could feel my hands shaking as I gripped the edge of the bench.

"Aren't you going to say hello?" Rebecca said, a mocking tone in her voice. "Or are you too scared to speak?" I hesitated, unsure of what to say. I didn't want to give her the satisfaction of knowing she had scared me, but I also didn't want to say the wrong thing and make things worse. I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came out. I felt my face turning red with embarrassment. Just then, a voice broke the silence.

"What's going on here?" It was Mr. Adebayo, our principal. He was walking towards us, his face stern. I felt a rush of relief, knowing that he would help me.
"These girls are bothering me," I said, pointing at Rebecca.

As I pointed at Rebecca, I saw her smirk. She knew she had me cornered, and she was enjoying it. I could feel my anger rising, but I tried to stay calm. Mr. Adebayo turned to look at Rebecca.

"Is this true?" he asked, his voice firm.
"Of course not," Rebecca said, feigning innocence. "We were just having a friendly chat with him. He is the one who's making a big deal out of nothing."

I could tell that Mr. Adebayo wasn't convinced. He looked back at me, his eyes questioning.

"What really happened?" he asked.

I hesitated for a moment before answering.

"Rebecca wanted to be friends with benefits with me, but I refused. She started throwing insults at me because of that, and ever since then, she has been holding a grudge against me. She obviously came here with malicious intent."

I tried to keep my voice steady, but I could feel the emotions welling up inside me. I had been holding this in for long. I knew that I had to tell the truth, no matter how hard it was. "I'm scared of her, Mr. Adebayo," I said, my voice cracking. "I'm scared that she'll hurt me or my friends."

As I said the words, I felt a rush of relief. It was like a weight had been lifted off my chest. I finally felt like I could breathe again. Mr. Adebayo's expression softened, and he put a hand on my shoulder.

"Thank you for telling me the truth," he said. "I'm going to talk to Rebecca and make sure that she understands that her behavior is not acceptable. I won't tolerate any bullying in this school. I want you to know that you can come to me if you ever have any problems, okay?"
"Yes, sir," I said, feeling a sense of gratitude.

I knew that Mr. Adebayo was a fair and kind principal although he seemed very strict and scary to approach most times. He always looked out for the students, and I was grateful to have him in my corner.
I also knew that he would handle the situation with Rebecca in a fair and just way. I felt a sense of peace, knowing that I could trust him.

He then commanded Rebecca to follow him to his office. Her friends dispersed. I and my friends were left alone.

A few minutes later, the bell rang, signaling the end of break time. We then went to our next class. The lesson went well, just like the day before. We had math, social studies, and English. Before the bell rang to signal the end of the school day, we were given assignments.

As soon as the bell rang, a student from another class came up to me and said that the principal wanted to see me. I went to his office with my bag and he gave me my school uniform, sportswear, and school books that my mom had paid for on my first day of school. With that, I left his office and went to the compound where Michael and Amanda were waiting for me.

We walked through the school gate, Amanda took her own direction home, which was different from ours. Michael and I waved goodbye to her and then walked home together. We talked on our way home about the upcoming weekend, which was Saturday, the next day. We talked about our plans, and then we said goodbye as we reached our separate houses.

I was glad to have a friend like Michael, who was always there for me.

As I entered my house, I felt a sense of contentment wash over me. It had been a good day, even with the excitement of the kitten in the classroom. I looked forward to the next day, and all the adventures it would bring.
