Middle of the night, 3:36 A.M.

You were sound asleep in bed while holding onto Summer. While you slept, you heard your scroll buzzing on the nightstand to your left. You slowly opened your eyes, and tried to adjust to the darkness of the room. You reached over to your scroll and when you opened it, you were blinded by the light.

Y/N's Thoughts: Hate when that happens, ouch...

You adjusted your sight, and saw it was a message from Ozpin.

Ozpin message: Y/N, we need you here urgently, something's come up. Please come to Beacon as soon as possible.

When you read the text, you cast away your tiredness, and got up from bed and began to get ready for whatever mission you were going on. While getting ready, Summer had woken up.

Summer: *groggy tone* Y-Y/N?..

You looked over to Summer, and went to her side, laying her back down.

Y/N: Hey cookie monster, look, something's come up, and Ozpin needs me right now. I might be gone for awhile, but I'll be back. It's just another mission.

Summer: You sure you don't want me to come?

Y/N: You need to stay here and take care of our Ruby. Don't worry, when I get back, me, you, and Ruby are all going to go on vacation.

Summer: Mmmm, okay.

You kissed her and stroked her hair.

Y/N: Get some more rest, I'll be back, I love you.

Summer: I love you too.

You kissed one last time, and she fell back asleep. You went over to Ruby's room, and walked up to her cradle. She was sleeping peacefully, sucking on her thumb. You kissed your index and middle finger, and lightly tapped them on Ruby's head to kiss her without waking her up. She smiled which melted your heart.

Y/N's Thoughts: I'll be back, my little rose.

You left her room, and walked out the front door. It was snowing outside, and cold. When you felt the cold air run through your body, it made you feel something. It made you felt that something bad was gonna happen. You looked back to your house, and decided to make a quick stop somewhere before heading to Beacon.

Timeskip, 1 hour, Island of Patch

Tai and Raven were sound asleep next to each other in the bed they shared. As they were sleeping, a knock at the door awoke both of them.

Raven: *Groan* Uggghh *covers head with pillow speaks muffled* Tai, get it.

He groaned and got up to get the door.

Tai's thoughts: Who the heck would be awake at this time?

When he opened the door, and rubbed his eyes, he saw that it was you.

Tai: Y/N?

Y/N: Can I come in?

Tai: Y-Yeah, of course, I'll make us some tea.

He let you in and set a kettle on the stove and went back to the living room where you were sat.

Y/N: So, how's Yang?

Tai: She's the spitting image of her mom, but she got my hair so, I'm fine with that.

Y/N: It's good to hear that things are going well.

Tai: Anyways, what's with the unexpected vis-

He's cut off by his scroll vibrating. When he reads it, before he can say anything, you cut him off.

Y/N: From Ozpin, right?

Tai: Yeah, we should get going.

Y/N: No.

Tai: What do you mean no?

Footsteps were heard, and you saw Raven coming down the stairs.

Raven: I heard talking, Y/N, what are you doing here?

Tai: Raven, get ready, we got a miss-

Y/N: I said no, Tai. Don't take this mission.

Tai: Why not?

Y/N: I can't put my finger on it, but something feels different today. I got a weird feeling, and I don't want any of you near this mission.

Raven: Y/N, we can handle-

Y/N: Yourselves, yes I know, but please, for me.

???: Mommy?

You all looked to the top of the stairs and saw little Yang there rubbing her eye from waking up. Raven went and picked her up.

Raven: What are you doing out of bed sweetie?

Yang: I heard you guys talking, and I heard uncle Y/N.

She reached her arms out to you signaling that she wanted you to carry her. You took her into your arms.

Y/N: Hey munchkin.

Yang: Hi uncle Y/N.

Y/N: You been good to your parents right?

Yang: I got in trouble.

Y/N: For what?

Tai: *sigh* We took her to get a hair cut, but she ended up hitting the barber in the face before he even got the scissors.

Y/N: You know Yang doesn't want a hair cut Tai, she likes her hair.

You gave Yang a kiss on the cheek and handed her over back to Raven.

Y/N: Please, if you won't stay here for me, stay here for Yang.

They looked at each other, and reluctantly nodded, agreeing to stay where they were.

Y/N: Thank you.

Tai: Just be careful.

Y/N: I will.

You gave Tai a hug, and then Raven, but before you pulled away, you whispered into her ear so none of the two would hear.

Y/N: *Whispers* If anything happens, promise me you'll take care of Summer and Ruby for me.

She didn't know what to think at the time, and when you pulled away, she just nodded, almost saddened by what you said, making her think that you might not come back. You gave Yang one more kiss, and walked out the door. As you were walking through the snowy forest, you felt a presence near you.

Y/N: *Sigh* You better not follow me Qrow.

Qrow stepped out from the shadows.

Qrow: I'm not letting you do this alone. No matter what you say, besides I aint got nothing to lose.

Y/N: Qrow, you got plenty to lose.

Qrow: I ain't leaving you Y/N.

Y/N: *Sigh* Just promise me, if things go bad, you run like hell.

Qrow: Ain't nothing gonna go bad, wanna know why? Because they got you and me.

Y/N: *Chuckle* You been drinking again? Because you sound drunk.

Qrow: Hey, I'm not THAT drunk.

Y/N: *Chuckle* Lets go then.

You both walked through the snowy woods to head off on a mission you were worried about.

Timeskip, at Beacon

You and Qrow arrived at Beacon, and saw a lot of huntsman and huntresses gearing up and mobilizing for the mission. Most of them you knew, and other's were quite famous ones themselves. You and Qrow walked around until you finally found Ozpin.

Y/N: Oz.

He turned to see you and Qrow.

Ozpin: So it will just be Qrow accompanying us, not team STRQ?

Y/N: I wouldn't let them, something's telling me this mission isn't what we think it's going to be.

Ozpin: That my friend is correct, something has appeared, a new type of grimm, only in some other form.

Qrow: What do you mean by, "other form?"

Glynda pulled up a picture of the grimm he was talking about. The look of the grimm could have made you turn pale.

Y/N: What is that....I've never seen anything like it...

Qrow: It's eyes are blue, not red, and it almost has no physical form.

Glynda: From the reports we've received, it's been said that this new type of grimm has been leading and controlling the other creatures of grimm to attack the villages it comes across, and so far, no huntsman or huntress has been able to slay it.

Ozpin: Which is why I've called various people and teams to come together to lead an assault against this pack of grimm.

Y/N: Who's taking point?

Ozpin: You will.

Qrow: I got no problem with that.

Y/N: Better rally up the men, who knows what'll happen.

You walked over and climber up a pile of crates, and placed two fingers in your mouth, and blew a high pitched whistle that got everyone's attention.

Y/N: Alright! You already know the scenario, got a pack of grimm following some new type of grimm we've never seen. So I don't want anything to go wrong on this mission. We stay together, and fight as one, we'll make it through no problem. I'll be leading this mission, so what I say, goes. Which means, if I order you all to fall back, you FALL BACK. I didn't plan on losing any of my fellow huntsman and huntresses anytime soon, and I don't intend on starting now. Watch out for each other, and be aware of your surroundings. Alright, lets move!

Everyone: Yes, sir!

Everyone began to fill the bullhead with the last of the supplies with haste, and soon, everyone boarded their designated bullhead, and the small air fleet debarked for the mission.

Timeskip, mission location

The bullheads landed and everyone got into formation, staying close to one another. You and Qrow were the heads of the spear, leading the group of 5 teams, and 6 individual huntsmen/huntresses. The bullheads took off, and flew away, leaving you in the forest. It was still dark, but light would shine soon, for an hour is what's left of darkness.

Y/N: Alright, lets move, bunch up, and keep your eyes peeled.

Your formation began to move, and everyone was on high alert, weapons ready. You had Incursio's Key at the ready, and Qrow fully unleashed his scythe.

Qrow: It's too quiet Y/N. I don't like it.

Y/N: Me neither....

You signaled the group to stop and everyone froze. You all stared out into the direction you were looking.

Y/N's Thoughts: What the hell, this was where the pack should've been, it's the only way to the nearby village.....

Someone felt something wet drop onto their shoulder.

Huntsman: Huh? Ewww, what the heck is this?

He touched the strange fluid, and it was sticky, then once he looked up, he saw those same red soul piercing eyes. He instantly raised his weapon in the air.

Huntsman: THEY'RE IN THE TREES!

Beowulf: *ROOOAR*

The beowulf landed on top of him, and soon, creatures of grimm fell from the trees all over everyone. You fought off the grimm that had gotten you all by surprise, and that's when you looked to your left, and saw the creature that was supposedly leading the grimm.

Y/N: There it is! TARGET AT 1 O'CLOCK! 

Everyone began to fire in that direction, and the grimm tamer turned to smoke and flew off. You unleashed Incursio, and summoned your spear. Creatures of grimm began to pour out of the forest towards you, and it forced everyone to split up somewhat.

Qrow: This isn't good! It's like it was a coordinated ambush!

Huntress: How could they even do this!? AHHHH!

Am ursa major had slashed her, making her aura deplete, and receive a cut on the arm. One after one, huntsman and huntresses, teams aura's were all failing.They were all foreced back into a choke point. You and Qrow were also almost out of aura as you two battled the hundreds of gimm that surrounded you. It was a complete mess.

Y/N: SOMEONE! GET ON COMMS AND ALERT OZPIN! IT WAS AN AMBUSH! THIS GRIMM IS INTELLIGENT! DO NOT ENGAGE! I REPEAT! DO NOT ENGAGE! 

Huntsman: YES, SIR!

He got on the radio, and after slashing a wave of energy through 6 beowulves, you saw that more and more were just pouring out from the forest. You and Qrow were drained of your aura's. You were so exhausted, Incursio's armor had disappeared, leaving the Incursio's Key in your hand.

Y/N Thoughts: Damn it! I don't have enough aura or energy to summon back Incrusio, this is a real shit show.

You began to look around. Soon, Nevermore's were circling the air. Everyone began to panic. No one was in fighting condition. The grimm tamer reappeared in front of the hoard of the grimm. It's blue cold eyes looking into your soul. 

Qrow: Y/N! What do we do!?

Y/N: I'm thinking!

You tried to think of something, but then remembered what you told all of them.

Flashback

Y/N: If I order you all to fall back, you FALL BACK.

Flashback over 

Y/N:.....Qrow, do me a favor.

Qrow: *pant* Yeah *pant* what?

Y/N:....Tell Summer I'm sorry....

Qrow's eyes widen when you said this.

Qrow: Whoa, Y/N, there's still some other choices we got here.

Y/N: We don't have time, and because I know you'll stop me...

You turned and faced one of the huntsman.

Y/N: You, order everyone to fall back. I'll hold them off.

Humntsman: But sir-

Y/N: That's an order, and make sure he goes too. Drag him if you have to.

Huntsman: .........Yes....sir......EVERYONE! FALL BACK! 

All the huntsman and huntresses began to fall back, while you walked forward. Qrow tried to stop you, but the huntsman stopped him.

Qrow: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! LET GO OF ME DAMN IT! LET GO!

Huntsman: I CAN'T! IT'S AN ORDER FOR ALL OF US! 

Qrow: Y/N! GODDAMNIT! STOP! YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS! THINK OF SUMMER! *GRUNT* THINK OF RUBY!!!!!!

Y/N:...I am thinking of them....I always do....tell Summer...I love her.

Qrow: Y/N!!!!!!!!!!!!! 

Y/N: RRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You charged into battle and began to fight the grimm off by yourself. Qrow struggled trying to stop being dragged, but other huntsman picked him up and began to carry him against his own will.

Qrow: LET ME DOWN! Y/N! Y/N!!!!!!

The last thing he saw was you cut down an small creep grimm, you smile at him, and gave him a two finger salute, before the creatures of grimm completely surrounded you to the point no one could see inside. Everyone had made it to the extraction point, and called in the bullheads for evac. When they landed, the pilot asked one of the huntsman.

Pilot: Where's Y/N!?

Huntsman: He's still in the forest! We gotta go before it's too late!

Pilot: We're leaving him!?

Huntress: His orders! Lets honor them, and get the hell out of here!

The bullheads were loaded, and everyone else made it out with mild injuries, but non-fatal. As everyone sat in silence, Qrow sat at the very end of the seats away from everyone with his head down. He couldn't drink away his sadness due to his flask being empty. He sat there and lightly sobbed, for the loss of one of his best friends. 

Timeskip, morning, Beacon Academy

Summer was on the elevator heading up to Ozpin's office. She had left Ruby with Raven, left to Beacon after finding out that you hadn't returned with the rest of the assault team. When she reached the top floor, she rushed into Ozpin's office where she found Tai, a slightly depressed Qrow, Ozpin, and Glynda. They all had hurt looks on their faces.

Summer: Where's Y/N?...

Ozpin: Summer-

Summer: WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!? WHERE IS RUBY'S FATHER!?

She began to tear up, not wanting to believe the worst had happened to you. 

Tai: I'm sorry Summer....he's gone...

Summer: No....your wrong..

Qrow: S-Summ-

He was cut off by Summer who sped out of the room using her semblance, and rode down the elevator. She ran to the edge of Beacon with tears flowing down her faces like waterfalls. She began to remember memories of your years here at Beacon.

Flashback

She spread her arms out like wings when you held onto her while flying.

Summer: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!

Flashback 2

You were stood in front of a huge hoard of grimm, standing between them and Summer.

Y/N: Summer Rose, I love you.

In the hospital when you woke up

Summer: Stay with me...please...let me stay by your side.

Y/N: Of course.

Flashback 3

You got down on one knee, and pulled out a ring that had a red gem surrounded by diamonds.

Y/N: Summer Rose....will you marry me?

Summer: *snifle* yes....*snifle* YES!!!

She jumped into your arms and kissed you as you spun her around.

Flashback 3

Y/N: Hey Ruby, how you doing?

She giggled and laughed from the tickling she got from you poking her stomach.

*Kiss*

Summer: For being the best husband and father ever.

Flashback 4

She was bumped into and fell to the ground. When she looked up, she saw someone who had (H/C) hair, and (E/C) eyes. He offered her a hand which she took.

Summer: My name's Summer Rose, it's nice to meet you!

Y/N: Your awfully cheery, I like that, my name's Y/N L/N.

Present

She stopped at the edge of Beacon crying, and yelled out loud. 

Summer: Y/N!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Her scream for your name echoed almost throughout Vale, as she began to break down and cry.

With you

You were leaned up against a tree, and watched as the grimm tamer disintegrated into nothingness. You held Incursio's Key in one hand, and an open wound on your side with your other hand. Your vision began to blur, and everything was starting to feel cold.

Y/N's Thoughts: I...failed.....forgive me.....Summer...take good care...of....our....Ruby..........................
