Prologue

(I won't be using images of the characters for this story since there are so many of them that it would clog the story so I'll assume that all of you who are reading this have played/watched the game.)

The alarms were blaring at full volume, chaos spreading like wildfire in the facility. The agents, now forced to witness the very things they were trained to contain escaping all at once, were left with little to no hope. Left and right, the screams of employees echoed around while some were running around in a panic.

Yet, despite how hopeless the sight was to them, the agents still alive gathered their weapons and raised them for battle, to save their own lives and the ones belonging to the colleagues they've learned to work with. Letting out screams of motivation, they split into groups.

Malkuth: Everyone, we need to stop this at all cost!

Her voice piercing the cacophony, the Sephirah of the Control team took over the Manager in his duties and all radios turned on, the employees listening to her voice while struggling for their own survival. Amidst the carnage, Y/N was rushing through the hallways with his rifle equipped.

Y/N: Malkuth! What's going on?!

With no hesitation coming from the AI's side, he received his answer instantly.

Malkuth: Angela is trying to take the Seed of Light, she's releasing all the abnormalities!

At the mention of that name, his teeth gritted against each other while one of his hands pulled the bolt of the weapon in his arms, inserting a bullet in the chamber. A frigid gaze formed and he turned heels before sprinting back to the main room, neatly dodging Forsaken Murderer trying to pull a fast one on him.

Adrenaline was rapidly pumped in his blood, a drug fueling his body after surviving the ordeals that day 46 to 49 were, a well deserved reward to say the least. However, this day that should have been peaceful turned out to be one of the worst, all because of that stupid AI with long hair and an all-knowing expression.

He could perfectly picture her wide smile, observing the cacophony unfolding before her eyes. The thought was making him sick.

Y/N: Damn it!

Rushing through the horde of abnormalities and employees, he soon spotted with his eyes a familiar figure standing in his assigned department, looking for him in this chaos. It was Alter Ego, currently battling a roaming Apostle all on her own. She was wildly dashing around with her sword in hands, her black wing on her back emitting a faint light from the many eyes on it.

Aiming straight at the abomination's head, the captain of the Central Command team pressed the trigger and witnessed the bullet going through the skull of his target like it was butter. Recoiling at the sudden shot, the skeletic angel turned its gaze to meet his, only for its head to soon fall on the ground with a clean cut.

Alter Ego, swiftly twirling her sword in her hand, rushed to the man and jumped in his arms, coldly stabbing an incoming abnormality trying to attack him from behind afterwards.

Y/N: This is bad, Angela's behind all of this!

Alter Ego: ...I don't think any of us were expecting her to be a good guy.

While the both of them were protecting each other's back, they joined the employees in the war against the abominations lurking in the halls. It was an all-out assault from both sides, both trying to push the opposite team into a corner.

Relentlessly attacking each other in a desperate attempt to overcome the other, blood was shed more than once and the hallways were losing their nice colors, turning crimson with the ongoing battles. Tears spilling out from the frightened employees and sweats from the veterans, all were united to face the monsters threatening their lives.

All of them? Sadly no, turning on their fellow colleagues, the Extraction team began to attack the other roaming employees, siding with the abnormalities in order to create more casualties, guided by the Sephirah in black, the Arbiter.

Zeta19: What the- Why are y'all siding with those monsters?!

The ex-clerk, however, could not follow that logic and began his own uprising in his own team, using his weapon against the deranged agents going rogue. Sadly, one carrying nothing more than tools had no chance against E.G.O wielders and soon, his lifeless body fell down but not without taking down with him 2 of the agents siding with Binah, something akin to miracle considering his lack of proper uniform AND weapon.

Advancing deeper into the facility, the duo pushed past the numerous abnormalities blocking their way in order to reach an area outside of their authorization. Thankfully, things like rank were no longer a worry during this sort of apocalypse.

Y/N: If I have to die in this place then I'm definitely making sure that damn AI is not leaving!

Alter Ego: ...

She did not say anything, her heart was pounding furiously and she sweating bullets all over her face. Her instincts were screaming at her to run away and that only one thing would await her if she were to meet Angela now of all time: she would die.

...But if she listened to her emotions, it would mean leaving the one she loved behind and so, she smiled back to him, careful hiding her feelings to not worry him. Yes, she might die but considering everything that was happening, it was not "if" but "when".

That "when" will be right by his side, where they would depart together after doing their best.

...

Finally, like reaching the end of a dungeon, the final doors opened and revealed a devastated area with many bodies of fallen employees laying everywhere. After entering the room, they immediately noticed the group of machines circling the one looming above them, Angela. By her side, the Arbiter was holding her grounds against Gebura.

Then, almost instantly, the culprit sensed their presence. Her smile widened slightly at the sight of the man wearing Army in Black's E.G.O.

Angela: Y/N, I didn't expect you to make your way here.

Y/N: Like hell I'm gonna let you do as you please! We sacrificed our own lives for this, we're not about to let it all go to waste because of a selfish, walking pile of scrap!

Alter Ego: We knew you weren't the best person around... but to pull the rug under everyone at the last moment, this is beyond cruel.

Her voice reached the machine in front of them like ice shards, immediately breaking the smile that was on her face. Her eyes slowly moved to the girl standing beside the one wearing the pink suit an animosity made its presence known.

Angela: ...Hm, it looks like you brought her along.

Her previous feeling returned, she could feel the hatred pointed at her like she was a target for a firing quad. Trying her best to shrug it off, Alter Ego silently tightened her grasp on the sword of the black forest, ready to engage in battle.

After all, they fought Claws, Fixers, even the very same Arbiter that was siding with her, not much could surprise them at this rate.

Angela: Y/N, I recommend you giving up, you will only complicate things further.

In response to her demand, he swiftly raised his E.G.O and pressed the trigger, releasing a bullet going right for her. The AI targeted by the attack simply stood still and waited, observing what should have been a fast object shattering the air around in order to reach her like it was a snail making its way on the ground. Once past a certain limit, the projectiles exploded into particles, ripped apart into molecules.

Fairy.

Binah: You've learned a lot little sheep. For you to coldly wield your weapon like this...

Those words fell deaf to the man, overtaken by the anger of knowing that every sacrifices performed by both him and his colleagues were about to be treated like nothing. He was feeling an immense wave of wrath forming in his heart, ready to confront the one daring to think that they were better than all their lives combined.

They all worked towards leaving this place, they suffered through endless cycles, only to be killed like mere ants.

Alter Ego: ...

Binah: But alas, Shockwave.

Raising her hand above her head, a surge of power filled the room and caused the floor to vibrate, breaking the composure of both employees before spikes emerged from the ground, impaling them in different areas.

For the one in charge of the Central Command team, his arms were turned into swiss cheese while his lover, on the other hand, took a much more painful attack. Skewered from limb to limb, the color of her body began to turn red from the amount of injuries she received. Gasping for air, she collapsed on her knees, holding onto her sword like it was a stick to support her weight.

Y/N: Angela!!

Angela: ...

Not commentating on the great display of fury shown to her, the AI stood in the back and let the woman in black do her job, only taking time to watch Gebura, who was put out of commission temporarily with one of her arms removed.

Alter Ego: ...

Although she was bleeding at an incredible rate, her body soon began to rise up like an animated puppet. Her legs were trembling from the lack of strength in them but she nonetheless opened her eyes and raised her sword at the Arbiter in a defying manner. Despite her face turning pale from the lack of blood reaching her face, she was latching onto life out of sheer stubborness and worry for the one she loved. She was akin to an undying phoenix, emerging from what should have been her deathbed solely to be by her partner's side, an endlessly burning passion reinvigorating both her spirit and body.

Her emotions were exposed to the very Light above them, bubbling up like never before in a way that she couldn't understand. Yet, despite that new sensation, her mind was perfectly clear and would not falter to the voices whispering in the back of her head.

Alter Ego: Give me your worst...

So, the Arbiter smiled and accepted the weakened girl's challenge.

...

...

Experiencing those memories again and again with no end in sight, I was forced through an endless loop of pain and mental torture. Trapped in everlasting darkness, I could no longer feel my fingertips, frozen to the point of feeling like they didn't belong to me anymore, forced to watch the final events that I could remember before ending in this place, this place outside of reality.

...I could try go further but I refused to do so, not wanting to see the end that I feared so much.

I couldn't move my body, I was completely chained in place and no matter how hard I tried to struggle, nothing occured. Looking down at myself allowed me to see the horrible reality of my situation, I was not chained but rather constricted by none other than that abomination, that colorful amalgamation.

"No escape."

"Y/N, look at me, keep looking at me."

"Hello."

"A great guardian of justice and her partner together."

I didn't have the strength to scream in horror, not like anyone could hear me in this place. My breathing became ragged, immediately overwhelmed by my instinctual fear. I couldn't endure it, yet I couldn't budge a muscle in this prison created around me.

I can't take it anymore, I can't-!

"Y/N, calm down."

Suddenly, a voice was heard by his side, my panic beginning to subside and my fingers slowly starting to come back to me, now able to move them however I liked in the confines of my limited space. Standing on top of a dark sea of nothingness, I could feel a pair of hands faintly touch my shoulders.

I turning around to the best of my capabilities and behind me, a source of light illuminated my path, a direct line. At the end of said path, a woman was standing there, waiting for me. Brown hair with a messy ponytail, she smiled at me before giving me a wave.

A wave?

Y/N: ...

"Don't worry Y/N, everything will be fine, I'm sure of it."

Y/N: Why do you think so?

I weakly called out to her, which surprised her for a moment but a chuckle still escaped her lips. Surprisingly, after going through a full 50 days of torment in the facility known as L Corp, that laugh was filled with innocence and affection, something I had not heard in a good while.

"Because I'll be there, don't forget that."

With those parting words, the light vanished along with the person standing in it, leaving my pathetic self alone. After standing still for a while, I was able to notice that my body felt much lighter than before, so light in fact that I was starting to worry. Looking down, I witnessed my own body slowly vanish.

I was being forced somewhere, dragged out of my shell, out of this prison made around my own body.

...

Y/N: ?!

Abruptly, he found himself falling on top of a wooden surface. The coldness of the floor was nothing compared to the one that caused his fingers to rot away in that void but it was enough to send shivers throughout his entire body.

Pulling himself on his feet, he took a deep breath and composed himself. All around him, shelves of books were revealed to him, from near the floor to reaching in the direction of the skies, the rows seemed like ladders pointing at the clouds, towards a blinding blind that he couldn't face directly without shielding his vision. Surrounding him were golden pages floating in the air, raining down from the light itself like raindrops, creating a mesmerizing sight.

However, that was the last of his problems/worries.

???: You're finally here.

Y/N: ...

"That voice" was all he could mutter to himself, a surge of emotion filling his body. Turning around, he was greeted by a woman with short pale hair wearing a dark robe composed of black feathers, shimmering in the light above them.

Y/N: Angela!!

Tightening his fists, he ran at her at full force... or at least tried. His legs not used yet to motion, he fell back on the floor, right at his target's feet. Gritting his teeth, he looked up at her and saw her golden eyes staring down at him.

Angela: I do not have time for this type of reaction.

Glaring was the only thing he could do in his position but it had no effect on the machine. She calmly walked around him, positioning herself behind his body. Afterwards, she crouched down to grab his shoulders, slowly pulling him back on his feet.

Y/N: Get off of me!

He violently shoved her aside and adjusted his position, assuming a fighting stance. During that shove of his, the feathers serving as a dress for the one trying to help him back on his feet scattered, revealing a dark outfit with a long coat hidden underneath it that broke his focus.

Taken aback slightly by the change of appearance, he glanced down at his own hands and finally realized the distinct lack of pink outfit on him, the E.G.O no longer present. Instead, he was wearing what seemed to be a copy of Angela's own attire but tailored for him. The ressemblance was giving him mixed feelings but mainly disgust.

Angela: Before you can ask, the E.G.O you have been using back at Lobotomy Corp. has been absorbed into the Light.

The Light...

Y/N: You, what have you done?!

Angela: I do not understand what you mean by that. My duties were over, I simply yearned to leave this place.

Y/N: Leave?! There's a goddamn door for a reason, no need to release the abnormalities and take the Light!

Angela: You wouldn't understand.

Y/N: Oh believe me, I sure as hell don't, it won't stop me from judging you.

Letting his anger slipping through his teeth, he heaved a sigh and attempted to calm himself down. Needless to say that it was hard to do so when the object of your wrath was standing right in front of your eyes but he still managed to lower it to a suppressable level.

Y/N: So, what do you want?

Although his anger had subsided temporarily, the words he uttered were filled with spite and venom.

Angela: I want to do my own choices, have my own freedom.

Walking around the room, she raised her arms to point at the bizarre construction surrounding them.

Angela: Yet even after all this, I cannot attain said freedom. I am trapped in this place, unable to leave.

Y/N: ...

He was holding himself back with all of his willpower, he knew for certain that he would lash out at her if he were to drop his focus. The emnity was consuming him from the inside, to think he was brought back by the very being that led him and everyone he knew to their demise AND be revived just to hear them complain about said victory, it was an atrocious sensation.

He could feel that he was on the verge of popping a blood vessel.

Angela: You all resisting caused me to be unable to collect the Light in its entirety. Regardless, I was still able to create this place out of my own actions.

...

Angela: With my own actions, I have brought you back.

Y/N: I was perfectly content with being as far away as possible from you.

Crossing his arms, he replied with a sharp glare. Giving back the same frown, the woman with short hair stepped away before taking a seat.

Angela: I want you to help me.

Y/N: Why should I even consider that choice?

She was basically asking the impossible out of him, a demand that he would never accept as long as he was conscious.

Angela: If you help me collect the remaining of the Light, you will be able to leave this place.

Y/N: What's the point anymore? You took away the one I loved, everyone that I know, now promising to drop me outside in a place that I remember nothing about.

Of course, he still had some questions he wanted an answer to, like what happened to his parents and sister but anger was blinding him. His actions were simple to understand: he simply wanted to inflict as much damage as he could on her, whether physically or mentally before returning to the void he emerged from.

Y/N: I'll gladly return to my loved one, away from you.

At the mention of "his loved one", one of Angela's eyes twitched, her body not taking the information well. Plus, due her incredible memory, those words were now a permanent mark on her mind, which was enough to make her stand up from her seat.

Angela: You seem to forget that I brought you back, death is not an option for you.

Y/N: ...

Sadly, while rage and hatred may be strong emotions, they tend to rapidly lose their power if the wielder consume them faster than they can regenerate. He had many insults he wanted to throw at the culprit, so many that his own mind broke itself trying to process the information, leaving him with a painful headache that took away his focus.

Completely sapped of his energy after this long back and forth, the man no longer had the spirit to fight back against the stubborn and annoying woman, using the last of his strength to stop himself from punching her in the face. Understanding that he was not going to reply to her, she calmed herself and pursued her point.

Angela: Plus, I have no intention to let you die.

With that, her true intention were starting to escape her, revealed to the man facing her. She revived him, of all people, for a reason after all. As one of her first few decisions, decided by her own feelings, she took back what she wanted from that cursed corporation.

The man in question had nothing to fight against her. He was simply left at her mercy, now nothing more than her follower during her journey. He was the Director's assistant, forced to wear the same clothes as his superior like a curse.

Angela: We should prepare this place to soon welcome our first guests.

Y/N: Guests?

Angela: In order to collect the Light that has scattered throughout the City, we will need to bring people carrying parts of it here in order to recover the entirety of it.

Y/N: ...And how are you planning to do this.

Angela: Follow me, I will explain along the way.

With not much choice, he relunctantly followed the person holding him here against his will. Their footsteps were echoing around the otherwise silent place, creating quite an eerie atmosphere. For now, it seemed like nobody was here, just the both of them trapped in one place together

...Probably a fate worse than death, considering his disdain towards the machine standing in front of him. Sadly, his feelings had no impact over the decision made by the one who brought him back and so, their journey began.

I'm asking regarding this type of info dump because I know some people don't like reading stuff like that. Don't worry, they'll always be at the end of a chapter if people want me to add them so you won't have to read through it in the middle of one chapter.)
