An attack

It has been a month since the USS Musk left the earth's major spaceport. You are assisting Captain Daniel Krikalev. He has asked you to help him with trying to settle a debate between two warring factions of Klingons. You get the feeling that it is a little more complicated than it needs to be. There is a loud thud on the table as one the leaders storms out. Daniel is stunned.

"I don't get it," Daniel muses. You can tell that it is getting nowhere and fast.

"I think you should let me try Captain," You offer. It is the least you can do. After all, you think you have the issue sorted. It may backfire but you get the feeling that it may be the best course of action.

"I wish the Klingons would put their honour aside and let us do our jobs but if you think you have a chance number one then by all means go for it," Daniel responds.

"With your permission Captain I will try and talk to Morg alone," You ask. You know he will let you do what you need with or without permission.

"Go for it," As soon as he gives you permission you head out towards Morg. You find him muttering in Klingon about the issues of using some starfeelt officers. You clear your throat. You get to work on insulting his honour which to your amazement works. You soon join the Kligon at the table. After another thirty minutes of brutal negotiation the Klingons have finally reached an agreement. After another ten minutes of making sure they deliver you are finally able to leave the planet. You head to the shuttle. Thankfully it should be an easy ride back to the Musk.

"I can do the flying if you want to relax a bit," Daniel offers.

"It's ok Captain I will relax in the holo-deck once I've returned.," You get to work on carefully piloting the shuttle back. You have never understood the desire to automate everything and that's why you always make the effort to fly the shuttles manually.

"Elliot to Musk are you ready to receive?" Daniel remarks.

"Ready to receive Cap," Comes the response from your chief tactical officer. It doesn't take you long to land the spacecraft in the spacious shuttle bay. You soon find yourself on the bridge of the USS Musk. You are talking to the chief science officer. She is explaining what the Klingons were fighting over the planet.

"Believe me you and Krikalev were lucky that you even got an agreement," The replitan remarks. He is right your strategy barely worked but it did.

"I know Maxim. Anyway you are welcomed to join me in the holo-deck if you want," You respond. You get the feeling that he will say yes depending on the program. It's also a good thing that you know the crew schedule.

"What program will you be using?" Maxim asks.

"Duchene program five or six," You respond. The reptilian's demeanour chances. It's a good thing that you found someone else on the ship that shares an interest in ice hockey.

"I'll join you soon. I've just got to finish some stuff for Krikalev," He confirms. Five minutes later you have made it to the holo-deck and you are thinking about whether or not you want to do a shoot out or a game with Maxim. You have decided that you would prefer to do a quick shoot out.

"Computer start holo-deck program Duchene six," You give the computer the command. The scenery changes to a small ice hockey rink with some equipment layed out in front of you. As always the net is guarded by the goaltender. It doesn't take you long to get ready. You put Maxim's stuff to one side and you get to work on getting around the goaltender. You slam the puck over the goalie's head.

"You've been dealing with Klingons again. Haven't you Ilsa?" The goalie asks.

"Yup. Jones their honour system makes things difficult," You reply as he passes the puck to you. Thankfully Maxim joins you. After fifteen minutes of play you are disturbed by the boatswain whistle of the comms system. You end the holo-deck program and then you answer the call.

"What can I do for you Daniel?" You ask. You get the feeling that there is something extremely wrong otherwise he would have left you alone.

"I need you and Maxim in my ready room as soon as possible," Daniel remarks over the comms system. Well that confirms the fact that something has gone wrong. It only takes you and Maxim two minutes to get to the Captain's ready room. All of the department heads are there. Daniel fills you and Maxim in. You hear something halfway between a sigh and a mumble from the reptilian.

"I suggest that we take the Eliot and get a closer look," Your chief tactical officer says.

"What about the Casper? It's basically a shuttle with fighter capabilities," Maxim offers. You are not surprised that his suggestion is met with annoyance from the Chief tactical officer. After five minutes of bickering between the officers you and Daniel are getting restless.

"Marner select three of your best men and meet Ilsa and I at the Casper. Maxim if you could spare me a science officer and James would you also join us?" Daniel gets to work on delegating the orders. You get the feeling that responding to the emergency hails may not be the best idea but orders are orders. You head to the Casper. Your thoughts are occupied by the fact that the only thing left of the ship is the life support and one crew member. At least it doesn't take you long to get the shuttle ready. Now you just need to wait for the others. It also doesn't take the long to join you.

"Are we good to Captain?" You ask as they all file in.

"Take us out," Daniel gives you the order. You carefully pilot the Casper away from the Musk. You can feel the tension radiating from the other crew members. You skilfully pull the Casper alongside the other ship. The comms system crackles to life.

"Captain Krikalev you have permission to bring the shuttle into the shuttle bay," The mysterious crew member announces.

"Roger that," Daniel responds. You manage to get the shuttle into the shuttle bay. It is a lot smaller than the Musk's. It doesn't surprise you. After two minutes of making sure everything is safe You and Daniel head to the bridge to find a disgruntled engineer. She is trying her best to get the computer up and running. Daniel is clearly impressed at how she was able to get the ship to federation space. At least it doesn't take the girl long.

"Sorry about the wait Captain Krikalev. The ship's computer comes and goes," She explains as she pulls herself up from underneath the main computer console.

"Don't worry about it," Daniel responds. He double checks the computer. Something doesn't feel right. Maxim enters the bridge. He has the same look of apprehension that you do. You join him at the science console. He is trying to pull the data from it but you can tell that he is not having much luck.

"Maxim, can I try?" you ask because it bothers you when you see someone struggle. Maxim gives you some space so you can try. Your fingers move nimbly over the panel. You only manage to get some of the data but it is a jumbled mess which makes no sense to you.

"I'm afraid that whatever took my crew also scrambled the data," The remaining engineer remarks. After eleven minutes of double checking the bridge you haven't uncovered anything aside the scrambled data that would suggest that the ship has been attacked. That fact is bothering you for some reason but your thoughts don't last long because the team on the bridge is joined by the security team.

"Did you find anything Marner?" Daniel asks.

"Nothing that could give us any clues, how about you Cap?" Marner responds

"Just some scrambled data," You beat Daniel to the response. It doesn't take long for everyone to head back to the shuttle. You are still bothered by the fact that there is not much in the way of evidence. Ten minutes later you have made it to your quarters and you get to work on decoding the data. You are a little peeved that there isn't much to go on but you understand why. Bingo. You have worked out the data but it is not good. You find yourself running to the bridge. Thankfully you don't have to run far.

"Captain there is another attack imminent," You remark as you enter the bridge. You can feel the questioning looks from the rest of the bridge crew. As soon as those words fall from your mouth the ship shudders as if it has been hit by something. It was probably some kind of particle weapon.

"Marner what was that?" Daniel asks. The computers start to go haywire.

"I don't know but whatever it was it sent the ship's computer crazy," Marner gives a quick report.

"All hands red alert," Daniel calls out. There is a flurry of all out chaos as alarms start wailing. You are hit by the sudden feeling of dread. The ship groans again. This time a strange energy surrounds Daniel. You can feel Daniel's look of horror pierce your thoughts. As soon as the energy takes Daniel the barrage stops.

"Commander. Everything is back to normal," Marner announces as the computers reboot. There is something about this attack that is bothering you.

"Thank you Marner," You respond. You will definitely have to contact starfleet command about what just happened.
