Chapter 1 (Part 3)

In the meantime, far away, the sun stretches its radiant fingers across a humongous city, painting the horizon in a golden hue. The buildings stand tall, their white facades gleaming under the warm caress of sunlight. Vibrant red asphalt shingles adorn the roofs, emitting a fiery glow against the cityscape.

Within the labyrinth of streets, residents and vehicles weave through the roads, their paths converging and diverging. Their wooden sandals echo as they step across the worn and weathered cobblestones. Red ornate archways stand in every corner of the city, infusing the areas with vibrant colour.

Donning simple robes and rice hats, people venture onto the streets, ready to commence their labours. They strain their arms as they pull wagons brimming with wheat and grains. Others guide carts carrying tanks filled with tilapia fishes. Meanwhile, affluent men and women, dressed in colourful, multi-layered clothes with their hair tied into a bun, stroll along the promenade, unburdened by any responsibilities other than walking with their heads held high.

Melodies flow from the birds' songs, harmonizing with the incessant barks of dogs. Laughter fills the air as children gleefully chase one another, engrossed in lively games of tag. Whispers and gossip permeate the vibrant atmosphere of the bustling marketplace, intermingling with the joyful chatter of women congregating between the stalls.

Farmers venture into the expansive farmlands, kneeling in knee-high water as they plant and harvest rice. A group of women sows their crops into the soil, one by one. Across the farm, fellow farmers wield their machetes, chopping down mature plants and ensuring a bountiful harvest.

In the middle of the vast city stands a grand court, expanding like a colossal colosseum. At its centre stands an awe-inspiring white and gilded building, its red gable roof soaring high, almost touching the flight of birds. It is none other than the city's Government House.

Inside the Government House, politicians convene in a spacious chamber, wearing their pristine white robes. Encircled by majestic red pillars, everyone drops to their knees, settling on the red carpet. A man stands before the others, unfolding a scroll and clearing his throat before commencing the reading.

In the neighbouring woods, mighty cherry blossom trees with delicate pink foliage stand proudly. Serenaded by the peaceful songs of birds, a sudden shift occurs as flocks take to the sky, casting captivating shadows upon everyone on the streets. Heads turn, and residents and passersby gaze upward, witnessing millions of birds soaring in unison.

In the meantime, a politician commences his speech inside the Government House, his deep voice ringing through the hall. However, an ominous occurrence disrupts the atmosphere as specks of dust gently descend from the ceiling. A faint noise accompanies the sight of a crack forming in one of the red pillars.

One of the politicians inside the room glances upward, swiftly nudging the other men on both sides. Their gazes fixate on the ceiling as they alert the others, causing a flurry of widened eyes. As more men stare at the high ceiling, more specks of dust fall from above.

Meanwhile, on the crowded streets, people remain fixated on the birds' flight until none cast their shadows. As the birds disappear on the horizon, an earth-shattering boom reverberates from below, shaking the foundation. Chaos ensues as everyone loses their balance, dropping to the floor while screaming in disbelief and terror.

"Aaagh!!"

Buildings fall to the relentless force of the tremors. Deep cracks paint across their structures, revealing the vulnerability beneath their imposing facades. The streets, bearing witness to this seismic upheaval, become fractured and disjointed, mirroring the chaos above.

Meanwhile, the tree-lined avenues quiver with an unsettling tremor, causing a shower of vibrant leaves to descend on the streets below. Slowly, the thick roots of the majestic trees emerge from beneath the soil. Then, the towering trees topple onto the roads, leaving a trail of destruction and loss in their wake. Blaring screams fill the air as girls and women unleash their horrified cries.

"Earthquake!!"

Household foundations splinter and rupture, triggering the collapse of homes. The desperate cries of families inside their households mingle with destruction. Residences crumble as the streets crack and fall apart.

As the chaos occurs, politicians inside the Government House scatter, hurrying across the unsteady ground towards the nearest exit. The unstable terrain impedes their movement, causing them to lose their balance and fall upon their backs. As the tremors escalate, the sturdy pillars around the room crumble, shattering into fragments that crush and mangle anything in their path. The fabric of the hall splits and cracks, leaving a trail of debris and stones that block the pathway to safety.

The Government House crumbles, falling apart like sand and pebbles. The foundation of the structure cracks into innumerable pieces. The once-imposing building collapses, engulfing the ground floor. A pall of brown smoke rises, obscuring the land, while the terrified voices of nearby men and women fill the air with cries of fear and disbelief.

"Get out of the way!!"

The ground finally ceases its relentless shaking, but the piercing screams persist, echoing through the air. The anguished cries of women ring out, reaching even the heavens. The sounds of sobbing infants and shouting men mix, creating an overwhelming blare that floods the ambience.

The once-vibrant city has been reduced to a desolate wreck. Every building has crumbled and collapsed, leaving not a single house standing. Scattered stones and shattered remnants of wood flood the streets. Debris and broken materials lie haphazardly, forming alongside the lifeless bodies that litter the landscape.
