Chapter 9 (Part 1)
Wearing his pyjamas, Oliver moved down the corridor with slow and steady strides. His hands dug into his pockets, and his gaze remained on the floor. Halting, his hand reached forward as he grasped the doorknob, pushing the door open to enter his bedroom.
As he steps into his bedroom, Oliver veers to the right, pulling out his chair before sitting on it. As his glance wanders, he spots a piece of mail lying on the desk. Swiftly tearing open the envelope, he seized the letter enclosed within.
With a calm and neutral face, Oliver commences reading with his eyebrows resting and his eyes partially closed. However, as he ventures deeper into the contents, his eyelids widen, and his brow furrow. Gradually, his face leans nearer the paper, parting his mouth.
Oliver releases a loud, heavy sigh, exhaling sharply. His thumb presses firmly onto the paper, forming wrinkles on its surface. Oliver gnashes his teeth as his eyes explode into fury.
"Dear Podeshire, upon learning of your relationship with Gregory Hidesine, I find myself unable to trust your love for him. After all, isn't he the son of the man responsible for orchestrating the demise of your biological family during your childhood?" he read the letter.
Fueled by frustration, Oliver tears the letter in half with a grunt. He crumples the paper into a tight ball and swiftly tosses it into the nearby bin on the left side of the desk. Panting rapidly, he closes his eyes and takes a deep breath through his nose as his chest trembles.
Oliver decides to rise from the chair. He turns towards his bed, taking slow and heavy steps towards it. Standing before the inviting warmth of the mattress, he slips his black shoes off his feet. Oliver then climbs onto the bed, lying on his back, and rests his hands on his chest. Staring at the ceiling, he gradually shuts his eyes, forcing himself to sleep.
Silence roams around the bedroom. The darkness blankets every corner, punctuated only by the moonlight filtering through the window. The air remains still as Oliver slowly succumbs to sleep.
Suddenly, Oliver's eyes snap open. His lips tighten, and he grunts, followed by a sigh. He then closes his eyelids again, urging himself to doze off.
As seconds pass, fury awakens Oliver. It causes his eyebrows to furrow fiercely, descending upon his nose. He takes a deep breath and opens his eyes, clenching his teeth.
A door opens. Oliver then steps out in his pyjamas. He peeks through the doorway, glancing left and right before marching down the hallway.
Another door swings open. Oliver enters on tiptoes with his gaze fixed upon the bed. He immediately spots his lover, Gregory, peacefully immersed in slumber.
Oliver turns his attention to his sleeping lover, gently closing the door as he gazes at him. Then, he walks forward with silent steps. Slowly, he climbs onto the bed, joining Gregory.
A gentle tremor roused Gregory from his slumber, causing him to glance at Oliver. "What's wrong?" Gregory asked as he yawned.
"I couldn't sleep," Oliver said calmly. "Can I sleep next to you?"
"Of course. I'd be delighted to have you by my side," Gregory responded, extending his arm and hugging Oliver, bringing him closer.
"Thank you so much, Greg," Oliver smiled.
"You're welcome," Gregory murmured, closing his eyes as he yawned. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight and sweet dreams," Oliver whispered, shutting his eyes and resting his head on Gregory's chest.
The night continues as the moon shines bright in the night sky. The stars shimmer as comets bolt across the vast galaxies. The wind blows through the neighbourhoods, causing the trees and leaves to dance with the breeze.
Within the dimly lit confines of Gregory's bedroom, two men slumbered peacefully on the same bed, a mere few inches apart. Their bodies lay beneath the comforting blankets, with their eyes sealed shut. Their breaths were calm and unhurried as they squirmed around the mattress.
Suddenly, Oliver's head begins to toss from side to side. His eyelids squeeze, and his face contorts as he moans. Then, his eyebrows furrow, and his lips tighten.
Oliver unknowingly hits Gregory's face with his hand, causing him to rouse. Gregory wakes up as his heavy eyes slowly open. He then looks at his lover, trying to comprehend the scene.
Using his left hand, Gregory begins shaking Oliver gently. As he shakes his lover, he cannot help but flutter his heavy eyelids. Fatigue tugs at him relentlessly, and Gregory's head gradually sinks onto the soft pillow. However, a distressed moan from Oliver pierces through the haze of drowsiness, jolting Gregory back to alertness.
Gregory relinquished his single-handed grip and employed both hands, shaking Oliver more urgently now. "Oli, Oli!" Gregory called out urgently.
Oliver gasped. He instantly woke up. He then gasped for breath as his jaw shivered. Panting, Oliver glanced at his lover with glistening eyes.
"You were having nightmares," Gregory whispered.
Suddenly, Oliver lunged forward. Then, he wrapped his arms around his lover. Oliver pulled Gregory to his body as he closed his eyes, embracing him tightly.
"I thought I lost you..." Oliver sobbed.
"Lost me?" Gregory mumbled as he frowned.
"I don't know why. I don't know why!" Oliver tightened his hug.
"Oliver," Gregory said, brushing his lover's hair gently. "Don't worry. It's just a dream."
Oliver shuts his eyes while sighing. He lays his head back on the pillow slowly. Then, he looks at Gregory again.
"It's... it's just a dream," Oliver sighed.
Gregory held Oliver's hand. "Remember, you'll never lose me. I'll be with you, from this realm to another."
Oliver feels the weight on his head vanishing. He feels relief flooding his heart. Smiling, he brushes his hand on Gregory's cheeks.
Gregory slowly leans towards Oliver. Then, his lips softly press against Oliver's forehead in a gentle kiss. Gregory pulls back and beams at his lover with a broad, glistening smile.
"I'm always here with you," Gregory stated.
The two men laid their heads on the pillows, cuddled each other, and slept peacefully.
