Chapter 12 (Part 2)
The bright full moon ascends slowly in the starless night sky, sending a gentle glow to the surroundings. The atmosphere has reached its darkest phase, with no constellations visible amidst the expanse of black space. The city's bright yellow lights bring a warm radiance, offering warmth despite the chilling breeze that howls like an icy wind.
Carriages roll as men and women stroll around, their silhouettes reflecting on the building windows. Inside a restaurant, multiple sets of rectangular tables occupy the space with two chairs. Red curtains hang between the tables, providing a sense of privacy for the customers. Above, chandeliers with three lit candles grace the ceiling, casting a soft and inviting glow.
Seated at one of the tables are Oliver and Gregory. Oliver wears his usual green outdoor attire, while Gregory sports a black coat with brown trousers. They relax in their cosy, sofa-style chairs, engrossed in perusing the menus that cover their faces. A male waiter, dressed in a white shirt and black pants, stands by their side, ready to assist.
"So, steak, medium rare," Gregory confidently placed his order.
"I'll have the same, please," Oliver added.
"And we'll take two bottles of red wine, too," Gregory ventured, glancing at the attentive waiter.
The waiter swiftly jotted down the order. "That'll be served in approximately five to ten minutes, gentlemen. Thank you for ordering," he stated politely.
As soon as the waiter departed, the lovers engaged in a conversation.
"Wow. Thank you so much for bringing me to such an expensive, luxurious restaurant," Oliver expressed his gratitude as his eyes wandered around the ceiling.
"You're welcome, though I've been working hard to earn enough money for us to enjoy moments like these," Gregory replied.
"Greg. You know I can make enough money for both of us to dine here every night," Oliver responded.
Gregory gasped. "What? No. As the man in this relationship, I should be the one who must provide for you."
"Oh, you're so sweet," Oliver smirked. Suddenly, his eyes widened. "Wait, you're the man in this relationship? So, I'm... the woman in this relationship?"
"Perhaps...?" Gregory responded timidly.
"Pfft, mhmh," Oliver giggled. "I'm a man."
"Well, so am I," Gregory raised his chin as he smirked. "Now, I wonder how your father would react if he learned we're in a relationship. Like... more than friends?" Gregory wondered.
"He's fine about it," Oliver answered as he continued giggling.
"Wait. Sir Albert Podeshire?" Gregory tilted his head.
"Oh! Him! My biological father?" Oliver stated. "Well, I couldn't say. But I can assume he would be... I guess... fine about it? Especially if my two brothers were still alive."
"That's good to know," Gregory smiled.
"Now I wonder how your father would react if he learned we're in a relationship," Oliver asked, pointing at Gregory with a wink.
"Oh, ho, ho! Let's not talk about that," Gregory panicked. "Let's change our topic."
"Oh, uh, okay. So, what do you think would our life be like in the next ten years?" Oliver inquired.
"Perhaps, in the next ten years... we will be one. And we'll have many... many children together. We'll live our best lives, free of problems, as our world advances and transforms. Villages are transforming into towns, and towns are transforming into cities. And this city would become a single nation soon," Gregory guessed.
"Hmm... how many children do you want, though?" Oliver asked as he smiled, laying his face on his palm.
"It's up to you to decide," Gregory smiled as he closed his eyes.
Oliver smiled back.
As the two men smile at each other, two wine bottles unexpectedly obstruct their gazes, placed by a waiter. Finally, food has arrived. The attentive waiter then carefully places the plates of sizzling steaks before Oliver and Gregory.
The cork on a wine bottle pops open. Then, the wine gently flows into the awaiting glasses. Oliver takes his drink, relishing the aroma before taking a small sip and closing his eyes.
When Oliver reopened his eyes, time seemed to blur as the effects of the wine became apparent. His head pulsed with a tightening ache, and his knees trembled, struggling to bear his weight. Supported by Gregory's firm arms, Oliver navigated the hallway until they reached their destination.
Entering the bedroom, Oliver and Gregory approached the comforting embrace of the warm bed. With utmost care, Gregory guided his drunk lover onto the mattress, removing Oliver's shoes and placing them on the floor. Exhausted from the evening's indulgence, Oliver drifted into a deep slumber with his eyes screwed shut.
Gregory begins to unbutton Oliver's waistcoat, but a surge of desire hastens through him, tempting him to explore his lover's naked form. Gregory shakes his head vigorously, refocusing his thoughts and summoning his willpower to resist the temptation. As he regains control, he winces his eyes and sighs.
"Goodnight," Gregory whispered into Oliver's ear before quietly leaving the room.
"...Ngg~" Oliver smiled in his sleep, feeling love and trust surrounding him.
