Chapter 11 (Part 5)
Another set of arrows launches into the atmosphere. The projectiles reach the mid-sky and fall from the heavens. Then, the groups of bolts pierce through the monsters' eyes on the ground. Blood erupts from their eye sockets as the darts impale and burrow into their skulls.
The Pyrovoidians drop onto the ground. Blinded, they screech and halt on the field. Seeing nothing around, they lost their heads, one by one, as the nearby guards and soldiers sliced through their necks.
Oliver swings his right arm upwards in front of a blinded bipedal monster with arrows stuck in its eyes. Oliver then summons a blade flying up to his opponent's neck. Victoriously decapitating it, Oliver swiftly turns around and grins. He then raises his left arm high, giving Bethany and the archers a thumbs up.
Bethany's smile radiates joy and pride. She then raises a hand to her shoulder level and gives Oliver a thumbs up. Grinning, the two nod at each other.
Oliver swiftly turns around once more, facing a new wave of enemies. He charges forward, releasing thin white elements that hover through the necks of the Pyrovoidians. Glancing left and right, he witnesses his troops gliding down with their swords, skillfully beheading the creatures.
To Oliver's left, Sophia and a group of determined men stand ready for action. Sophia swiftly ducks down and leaps up as her sword swings in front of a monster lunging at her. With a precise strike, she defeats her foe, spinning around while swaying her weapon.
Sophia's blade swiftly cuts through another opponent. Taking flight into the sky, she wields her weaponry with precision. Then, she slices through another Pyrovoidian's head as she descends.
Meanwhile, on Oliver's right, Sarrah stands alongside a group of sturdy men. She spins around, extending her hand forward with her sword pointing outward from her body. Her blade slices through four attacking bipedal monsters. Sarrah dispatches her sworn enemies with lethal accuracy, poised to behead even more. Without missing a beat, she slides through the smooth grass, swiftly slaying a monster that leaps at her from below.
Oliver's gaze intensifies as he locks onto a Pyrovoidian charging towards him. He abruptly halts his run as a smirk forms on his face. Conjuring power within the tip of his left palm, he summons a reddish-orange flaming ball that hurtles towards his target with blazing fury.
Meanwhile, Bethany keenly observes from the top of the wall how their soldiers repel the Pyrovoidians, creating a safe distance between the creatures and the city. Once, they were barely holding the line against the wall. Now, Bethany witnesses the vast expanse of land that separates the clashing soldiers and her archery team.
"Excuse me, take this," Gregory offered a green potion to an archer.
"Take this," Edgar handed a glowing orange mixture to another soldier.
"Here you go!" Gregory gave another orange potion to Bethany.
"Oh, what's this?" Bethany inquired as she peered at the burbling orange liquid.
"You'll see," Gregory winked. "Use it as a substitute for your arrows against the Pyrovoidians."
Another volley of arrows soared into the air. As they reached the mid-sky, the projectiles erupted in a spectacular display, unleashing a resounding boom and a blinding white light that painted the atmosphere like vibrant fireworks. Gradually, it transformed into swirling clouds of green and orange, and their colourful particles showered upon the Pyrovoidians below.
The hastening Pyro Void Monsters lock their eyes on the charging men. Suddenly, the monsters feel the touch of chemical droplets from above. Confusion crosses their faces as they inspect their skin, only to recoil in horror.
Their monsters halt in their tracks. Screams of agony blow out of their twisted jaws as the acidic concoction burns and sears their flesh. Gradually, they become like statues, frozen in place. Meanwhile, the deadly potion dissipates, blending away into the fresh air.
Seizing the opportunity, the soldiers and guards surge forward, leaping high. One by one, their swords find their targets, slicing through the necks of the Pyrovoidians. Then, the monsters' heads roll, spurting blood and painting the green grass crimson and violet.
Oliver lunges forward, summoning white, durable steel from his hands. He then wields his weapon, cleaving off the monster's head. As the lifeless body falls to the ground, Oliver sees a relentless march of Pyrovoidian advancing from behind. He leaps backwards, gasping in surprise.
Suddenly, muffled yells caught Oliver's attention. He turned around and looked at the city gates, witnessing the arrival of a hundred more backup troops. The doorways overflowed with fearless men, raising their swords towards the sky. Their rough, blaring voices filled the air, igniting a smile on Oliver's face.
While more troops arrive, Oliver fixes his gaze on the approaching Pyrovoidians. With a piercing glare, he forcefully exhales through his nose, stepping back his left foot while his right foot takes a commanding position in front. Extending his hands before his body, a crackling light blue ball with sparks of electricity danced between his palms, resembling miniature bolts of lightning.
Oliver hurryingly thrusts his hands apart, unleashing a tsunami of destructive air. The powerful blast generates a sonic boom that reverberates throughout the entire city. The elemental force seeps the incoming Pyrovoidians away, with some losing their heads in the violent gusts.
After the thunderous boom subsided, silence fell upon the grassland. The men stood in stunned disbelief. Their eyes widened at the display of Oliver's immense power. No one uttered a word, and no breath streamed through their mouths. Suddenly, everyone erupted into jubilant cheers.
Sophia, Gregory, Edgar, Sarrah and Bethany leap as they grin. The warriors on the walls and the battlefield joined in the cheerful chorus. Strangers embraced, united by the shared triumph as their elation flooded the air.
