Chapter 7: Are You?

A month had already passed and before they knew it, it was already October and the festivities were upon them and everyone was enjoying the time while they could.

The kids had their last game a couple weeks ago as they hated seeing their sports season end so soon as they got interested in other hobbies.

Connor took up the photography club and loved being able to create his own pictures, with Jane’s help, he learned it all really fast and Jack’s editing skills, he was set.

Raegan took up choir as she learned how to play the guitar and piano already. Jane was her teacher when it came to rhythmic sounds as a child up until now.

Everyone was trying to stay busy so they would not run out of anything to do during the upcoming holiday season as it would be a busy one.

Jack was editing one of his new editorials when Brynn walked into his office.

“Jack?” She questioned

“Good morning Brynn.”

“Jane is on the line one and she sounds upset.”

“Alright. Can you close the door on your way out. This might take some time.”

“Okay. I hope everything’s okay with her.”

“I’m hoping so too.” Jack said as Brynn shut the door on her way out as he picked up the phone.

“Hello?”

“Jack?” She sounded like she had been crying.

“Jane, what’s wrong?”

“I got my test results back today.”

“What results?”

“Remember when we went to go see what was going on with me last month after we got back with the kids from the beach?”

“Yeah?”

“Well, I got them back in and… I’m shocked, happy and in disbelief at the same time.”

“Honey, what’s wrong?”

“Honey, we’re pregnant!” Jane squealed in excitement over the phone as Jack dropped his.

He sat there for a moment and just thought to himself as Jane was calling his name through the phone.

“Jack?”

He picked his phone up again and cleared his throat as she wondered if he was even excited about becoming a father again.

“Jack!”

“Sorry honey, I’m here.”

“Are you excited?”

“I’m in shock.”

“I am too.” Jane got excited all over again.

“Are you sure you read your test results right?” Jack asked as he was not really as excited.

“I’m sitting here at my desk right now, looking at them.”

“On the computer?”

“No!”

“Jane, what happened to only wanting to have two kids.”

“We planned on having one more Jack. Now, I’m going to ask you again, are you excited or not?”

“Yeah honey. I’m excited about this.” Jack was more worried than pleased.

“Well then, act like it.” Jane said as she slammed her phone down.

Jane was in the middle of a segment when she got the urge to throw up while explaining what she was about to cook.

“Excuse me!” Jane held her stomach and ran to the nearest bathroom.
She sat down in front of the toilet, the biggest stall and threw up everything she ate the night before.

“And daddy thought mommy wasn’t pregnant. Just know that mommy loves you so much and I don’t care what anyone says.” Jane said as she caressed her stomach and made sure she was okay to stand up. She flushed and made sure she was stable enough to walk to the sink without tripping or falling.

She made her way to the sink to watch her mouth and hands as she felt ill, like the kind that makes you go home. She washed up and made herself look presentable again, but she was ready to go home and rest.

She told everyone that she needed to go home because she was sick and made her way back to her office when her boss walked up to her.

“Jane, are you okay?”

“Oh yes, just feeling ill and so, I’ll have Garrett come in to replace me.”

“I understand, but I just wanted you to know I found my replacement.”

“Oh, that’s wonderful.”

“Yes, I’m retiring at the end of the month, which is next week, so they will be here after Thanksgiving.”

“Well, it is a male or female.”

“The agency didn’t say because of that confidentiality crap they make us go by when someone gets hired by a temp agency.”

“I’m happy you found someone and hopefully, they’ll do good during their interview.”

“I hope so. I just still wish it was you. Having any second thoughts before my replacement comes in Jane?”

“Not at all Mr. Redditt. I’m confident in who the temp agency and you hire into making this company a successful place.”

“Well, we’ll see after this week.” He said.

“Yep, we will.” Jane said as he walked off and she headed to her office to grab her things.

She arrived home to find Jack’s car already there as she hoped he came to his senses about her being pregnant again because she was happy.

She walked in to see that the downstairs was empty and quiet as she set her stuff down.

“Jack honey, I’m home!”

“I’m in my office.” He said

She walked upstairs as she opened the door to see him, sitting there, still working as he looked at her and back at his computer.

“Well?”

“What?”

“Jack?”

“Jane?”

“Are you excited?”

“No.”

“What?”

“Jane, I have my reasons to not be happy about this.”

“Jack, I thought you wanted more kids like I did.”

“Not after all this time, I wanted more kids then.”

“What’s so different about now?”

“Because we’re older.”

“Jack, I realize how old I am.”

“Then, maybe you should have thought of that before hanging the phone up on me.”

“Jack, whether you like it or not, I’m pregnant and you can either choose to be by my side or leave.”

“Good idea.” Jack said as he got up and gathered his things.

“Where are you going?”

“I’m leaving.”

“Why?”

“Because I don’t know how I feel right now.” Jack said as he walked out the room and into their room to pack.

She followed as she slammed the door shut.

“Jack, what is wrong with you?”

“What about yourself Jane?”

“Tell me!” She said as she never would believe he would do this until it happened.

Jack turned around and slapped her as she fell to the ground and before she knew what to do, her face immediately reacted with pain and hurt began to set in throughout her body.

She sat there for a moment as her eyes started bubbling up with tears as she held her burning cheek.

“Oh my God!” Jack said after he realized what he had done as he crouched next to her as she looked away from him.

“Baby?”

“Just leave.” Jane’s voice cracked in sadness as tears fell.

“I’m so sorry!”

She ignored him as she felt broken and defeated. Never once did he hit her in their whole marriage, until now.

She cried as she felt like disappearing, but her kids needed her.

An hour rolled by, Jack left as Jane was sitting at her vanity, covering the bruise that Jack’s hand left on her face as she knew she’d have to tell their kids, about the incident and the baby.

“I hope your okay baby. Please don’t let me lose you too.’’ Jane said as she felt awful about what had happened earlier.

The kids arrived home from school as Jane was in the living room, reading a book to get everything off her mind.

“Mama?’’

“Yeah sweetie?”

“What is that right here on your face?”

“What?’’

“It’s purple and a couple of other colors.”

“I wrote something on my hand at work and it must have got on my face while I was sitting here.” Jane said as she got up and went into the kitchen.

“Did you buy that?” Raegan asked Connor.

“Not for a second.” Connor said as they walked into the kitchen to see Jane get something out of the fridge.

“Mama?”

“Hmm…”

“Where’s dad?”

“He had to work late tonight.”

“Mama, is that a bruise on your face?” Raegan asked her.

“No.”

Connor and Raegan looked at each other and knew exactly what had happened, but wanted their mama to slowly tell them.

“You don't have to lie to us mama. Just tell us.”

“Is it?”

Jane sat down as the kids asked the most dreadful question of all.”

“Mama, did dad hit you?” Connor asked her as she looked at them.

      To be continued…

Author’s Note: This wasn’t my plan to write this as a chapter, but I did want a bit of drama in here, but I always do like proposals, marriages, babies and stuff like that, but no one really talks about this because their afraid of writing stuff like this and it is hard, but this is my story and I don't want people coming at me like I don't know what I'm talking about because I do.

There will be two parts to this, so I hope you enjoy.
