Chapter 3: Fall Break Plans
It was now only a couple of days away from Fall Break as the kids were totally restless and could not wait to have a break from school for awhile as they studied and did homework most of the time. Jack and Jane were bombarded with work as they decided that a beach trip would do them and and the kids some good as they were leaving on Friday evening after the kids got out of school.
Jane sat in her makeup chair, having her hair done as she was called to the set as they walked out of her dressing room.
"And action!'' The director said
"Hello and welcome to another segment of our hometown's cooking hour. I'm your host, Jane Montgomery and today, I'll be cookin' up some recipes that your kids will enjoy over Fall Break. First recipe of the day is a recipe every kid will love and it's a classic favorite between me, my husband and my kids. First, breakfast is the most important meal of the day and this is usually the most requested out of my kids and that's chocolate chip pancakes." Jane said as she seen Jack walk in as she smiled and waved at him, which he did the same thing back.
...
"I have a surprise guest for all today and no one knows my cooking better than my husband and so honey, would you come on over here." Jane said as he walked over to her and kissed her cheek.
"Hello everyone.'' Jack said
"Now, what you will need is these ingredients: a box of Bisquick, a package of semi-sweet chocolate chips, two eggs, a can of non-cooking spray or butter like I use and one half cup of milk." Jane and Jack pointed at the items.
"You'll measure your Bisquick or flour if you prefer, your preference into a plastic or metal hand held measuring cups, the reason for this is because it's easier to scrape off any excess you don't need and if you do, then take the flat part of a butter knife and scrape the mixture you don't want off and add it to your mixing bowl." Jane said as she demonstrated the technique.
"She's totally the pro at this." Jack said as Jane smiled.
"You should see him in the kitchen.''
"Connor and I have a lot of fun in the kitchen."
"It doesn't take every dish in the kitchen to cook meals." They laugh and so does the audience.
"Except Thanksgiving and Christmas."
"Y'all go through dishes in a jiffy."
"Well, I like to experiment with different recipes."
"Another technique I learned was, measure your dry ingredients in metal or plastic measuring cups with the ring holding them and use the glass ones with the handle for your wet ingredients."
"My lady is such a natural. You should have your own show baby doll."
"Honey, I don't want cameras comin' in our house and filming everything I cook. If you want to see the recipes I make, check out Connor and Raegan's social media pages."
"I do and still baby, you're a pro!"
"Aww honey, I enjoy bein' here at work, but at home, I'm all yours."
"Okay, Chef Montgomery, show them your mad cooking skills." He said as he kissed her head.
"Hold on. Now, add a half a cup of chocolate chips to the mixture along with your eggs, milk and two teaspoons of vanilla and stir it up." Jane said as she started mixing it all together.
...
She added the batter to the buttered skillet on medium low as Jack watched his lady and he could not help but fall more and more in love with her.
"Now, another thing that I make along with these is eggs and bacon with fruit. My kids are fruit lovers, even when I was pregnant with them both, they loved it." Jane said as her smile faded at the memory as she felt numb that she might not could get pregnant again. They had tried for another baby and they always turned out disappointed in the end.
"Now, since these are done. Just add whatever you'd like to them and now, you can get the perfect pancakes each and every time." Jane said as her director flashed a five, which meant five more minutes till the camera was to stop rolling.
"And now, I hope you enjoyed the breakfast segment of our show. I'm you host, Jane Montgomery and I hope y'all have a great day!" Jane said as the audience clapped.
"And cut!" The director said as the credits rolled and he got up and walked over to her.
"Jane, that was amazing!"
"Well thank you! My husband was the real star of the show today." Jane said as she turned around to see him talking to her hair and makeup artist.
"Go rest dear. I'll see you later on.'' The cooking segment department leader said.
"Oh Audrey, I wish I could."
"Go relax honey and I'll bring your lunch."
"Fine! I might just go to sleep though."
"Do it!''
"Thank you for always having my back."
"You're welcome and you deserve it!"
"If I ever become a famous chef, I'll make you my manager."
"Sounds great!"
...
Jane was lying on her couch asleep, in her office when Jack walked in, admiring how beautiful she looked.
She turned toward the back side of the couch as Jack slowly lowered himself into it, placing her feet in his lap.
He was just about to pick up a magazine when a knock came at the door and a man came in.
"Oh hello." He said
"Hi, I'm Jack Montgomery. I'm Jane's husband." He extended his hand out.
"Hello Mr. Montgomery, I'm Jane's personal assistant."
"I believe we've met before."
"Once, it was last year at our annual Christmas party. I met you and both of your children."
"Mhmm... Jack?" Jane asked.
"I'm here baby."
"Oh, hey. I thought you were at lunch?" Jane asked her assistant.
"I was and then, I wanted to know if you needed me to pick up anything for you while I'm out?"
"No thank you honey. I'll be okay, he usually gets me what I want." Jane said referring to Jack.
"Well, I'm off. You have a great day Jack and I'll see you later on dear."
"Okay." Jane said as he left her office.
Jack stared at her as she stood up from the couch and walked over to her desk.
"Honey?"
"Yeah."
"I don't remember him."
"You met him last year, at the annual Christmas party."
"He said the same thing, but I was making sure."
"Honey, he's a friend of mine."
"I wasn't saying anything."
"You're bein' awfully jealous."
"I was not."
"Okay. Now, the kids are looking forward to Friday evening and I can't wait to get away from here."
"Do the kids know about what beach we're going to?"
"We're getting on a plane for awhile, so Raegan will be more thrilled about it than Connor."
"Plus, I think it'll do us some good to reconnect with one another."
"Like how?"
"Jack, you know with us and the kids. And the the fact that our personal needs don't exactly get fulfilled like they used to.''
"Baby, we both work long hours and sex is the last thing on the menu."
"That's what I was talking about.''
"Jane, I know I haven't been good in that department for awhile, but the kids are gonna want to have separate room like always. You with Raegan and me with Connor."
"Then, while the kids are at the beach, we sneak some time in or they can have a hotel room to themselves and we'll get one together."
"I want things to change after this trip and a lot of them too. This trip is simply for pleasure, not business."
"Jane, new stories come to me all the time."
"Jack, please?" Jane said as Jack looked at his phone.
"Listen honey, I gotta get back to the office. I'll call you later on." Jack said as he kissed her cheek and sauntered out of the room.
Jane sat there for awhile as someone knocked on the door.
"Come in." Jane said as her assistant came back with a coffee and a bag of food.
"Honey?"
"I think Jack might be taking pleasure elsewhere."
"No!"
"Yes."
"How could he?"
"The way he looked at his phone just a moment ago told me something was up."
"Men are assholes dear." He said as Jane looked at him.
"I can be one too." He said.
"I'm just hoping that our Fall Break plan will be in effect on this trip, because I don't want my marriage hanging on by a thread."
"Everything works out in the end dear, now eat and be happy." He said as he took out her food and she went right on to eating it.
...
Later on that evening, things came to a close as Jane made it home with the kids doing their homework at the table as she smiled at them.
"Mom?" Connor questioned
"Yeah."
"Are you okay?"
"Yes baby, I'm fine."
"You don't look it." Raegan asked
"I had a long day and I'm happy to be home."
"We can prepare dinner." Connor said as him and Raegan stood up.
"Go relax mama, we got this."
"You deserve it." Connor said as she hugged them.
"Okay, there's chicken in the fridge, so think of a recipe to prepare it with."
"Okay, now go on pretty lady." Raegan said
...
Jane took a shower and laid down on her bed as the door opened up to reveal Jack.
"Honey?"
"What do you want?"
"Today, in your office."
"Who is she?" Jane asked
"Who?"
"Don't play that innocent card Jack. Who is it or who is she?"
"There's no one."
"I can sense the lie written all over your face.''
"Jane, I was working on this week's newspaper articles."
"Yeah right."
"Baby, I don't won't anyone else." Jack said as he started kissing her neck.
"I love you."
"And I love you too baby doll."
"Now, let's have our own fall break fun."
"Now?"
"Why not?"
"Why don't we wait until we go on our trip or when the kids are no where around."
"But I want you."
"I want you too, but let's go do something other than frighten our kids."
"Okay." Jack said as she led him upstairs.
...
Jane rested her head on his chest as he read to her while she listened, but was also halfway asleep too.
"I love Hallmark." Jane mumbled
Jack chuckled as he put down his book as he played with her curls and kissed her head.
"When we get back from our trip baby, I promise you everything will be different." Jack said as he easily reached over and turned out the lamp and got settled into bed while her head still rested on his chest.
"I love you baby." She mumbled
"I love you too baby doll. More than you'll ever know." Jack said as he kissed her head.
