Chapter 20: Me, You and Dinner For Two!
Thanksgiving, Connor and Raegan's birthday and Christmas had already passed and now it was a new year. The kids were now fully licensed drivers and that worried Jane to death but she knew they had to have some sensibility of freedom.
Jack and Jane were invited to his work for a dinner celebrating the company's milestone year but Jane said she felt like everyone was going to stare at them especially since she was five months pregnant and already it felt like her stomach got all the stares and gasps.
"Your co-workers are going to be staring all evening." Jane said going in and out of her closet, trying to pick the perfect evening attire.
"Let them stare baby."
"All the ladies ask me when I come there to meet you for something "Why I got pregnant at my age."
"You're not that old baby."
"I just don't wanna take the spotlight away from you, with my belly showing and him bouncing up and down, I feel like I should stay here."
"Sweetheart, I want you to come and you know what, those ladies are just jealous because I'm married to the most beautiful lady in the entire world and they can't find anything else to do beside meddle into our life." Jack said as he kissed her.
Jane wanted it to last longer so she moved his head so his lips kissed her neck.
"Dinner will be cold by the time we get there." Jack said as they laughed.
"Force of habit. Do you think this dress would be formal and fitting enough to attend this party?" Jane asked him.
"You look beautiful darling and I love the way that dress molds to your body."
...
They soon arrived at the event and everyone seemed to be staring at them and Jane felt uneasy.
"Oh my goodness Jack, this must be Jane?" A lady asked as she hugged Jane.
"Yes this is my beautiful wife Jane Montgomery."
"It's nice to meet you." Jane said.
"Jack has talked about you everyday since y'all moved here."
"I hope all nice talks."
"Of course honey. Now, I know you can't have alcohol so what would like?"
"I'll take Sprite or ginger ale. Either one will work honey."
"Speaking of which, what is your name?" Jane asked.
"Rachel, I'm on Jack's side of the production team and I also help him with coming up with future projects when he needs them."
"I love your ideas and thank you for helping Jack. Between my job and our kids, he asks me what I think about what advertisement y'all are doing and I throw him ideas and I try to help him as much as I can." Jane said.
"Sometimes we need help because people come and go out of the company and it gets crazy."
"Tell me about it. People just expect to be handed something that they've never done in my department. I'm not letting someone who can't even boil water around the kitchen on my set."
"I love your programs. I watched that one with Jack on your segment and those chocolate chip pancakes were a huge hit for my family."
"My kids love them and I make them on Friday mornings to kick off our weekend after school."
"How many children do y'all have?" Rachel asked as Jack was standing around with a group of his work buddies as Jane smiled as she walked around and talked to Rachel.
"We have three children, two boys and a girl." Jane said as she rubbed her stomach.
"I have two girls."
"Is your husband here?''
"He's the third man from the left from your husband."
"Does he work in your department?"
"No, he's over our website, social media pages and keeps up with all the latest news."
"That's amazing."
"He likes photography and that's why he takes a lot the pictures for all the papers, post them online and he's the main technical engineer because he fixes any technical issues we have if anything goes wrong."
"My son loves to fix old electronics too."
"Well, what if he comes to our technical summer summit we're having?"
"I might just talk to Jack about it and we'll talk to him about it."
"Good."
...
Later on that evening, the dinner part of the event was served as Jack got Jane something as Rachel sat beside her and her husband sat beside him along with the president of the company and the close associates and their spouses.
"How's the project idea for the billboard coming along?"
"Really good sir. We'll have it finished next week and hopefully have it up the following week."
"Jack, I have to ask your wife a question."
"Go ahead."
"Jane, your over the cooking segment of the broadcast and advertising company in a fine company. What takes a great team leader to stay on top of a stressful department when the people have little or no experience at all when it comes to what you do?"
"In the company and department I work for, you have to have balance and structure. You have to have those two steps to make sure if something goes wrong, you find a solution to fix the problem before it easily gets out hand. One of the first steps is to identify the unique and equal contribution my team members so we can have organization and easy problem solving skills with the problem that could be solved." Jane said as she felt like she was in a business meeting instead of an event.
"Go on."
"One of the main criteria problems that me and my team in my department work on is how to solve the problem before it turns into a bigger one."
"What is your main focus on fixing a problem?"
"To see where the problem first started and we try to come up with solutions that help us and we just follow the steps it takes to work on the problem till it's solved."
"What main criteria do you emphasize on?"
"Infrastructure and ability to solve the criteria area."
"We could use some of your ideas during meetings."
"I'm sure you could." Jane said as she took a sip of water.
...
The dinner ended as they headed home.
"I felt like I was in a business meeting instead of a dinner party." Jane said.
"You were amazing honey and he only did that because he doesn't know one thing about how to solve a problem when something messes up." Jack said.
"You really think I did good?"
"Baby, you were the smartest person at that table and you really handed it to him."
"He seemed like he was only there to get some ideas on how to organize and form a business meeting."
"He only knows how to one thing and business meetings are not it."
"What is he good at?"
"Giving me and my business associates a headache."
"Did I give you one?"
"No baby, I'd rather you talk than him any time."
"What if I'd rather do something than talk?" Jane asked as he pulled up in the driveway.
"Wanna stay right here or go inside?"
"Right here is fine." Jane said as she unbuckled her seatbelt.
"The backseat is more comfortable." Jack said as Jane started kissing his neck.
"One motion at a time baby." Jane said as turned on the radio.
"I remember listening to this when we we moved into our first place together."
"That little house on the corner edge of town."
"You could here the water tower from the far distance."
"And the distant sound of a train coming down the tracks."
"I love you." Jack said.
"I love you too." Jane said.
"You and me."
"And dinner for two."
