Chapter 2: Decisions
It was Friday again and tomorrow was the dreaded class reunion Jane was dreading now for two months as Jack seemed eager to see everyone again.
She was sitting in her hair and makeup chair, getting ready for her next cooking segment as she tried to prepare for it as she felt overly exhausted.
"Jane, I know something is bothering you." Her hair and makeup artist said to her.
"Tomorrow, I don't know why I'm nervous. I just am for some reason."
"It's okay to feel nervous or anxious about something."
"Not about this."
"Honey, you can tell me anything."
"My husband's ex girlfriend and my nemesis from high school has been irking my nerves lately."
"What does he say about this?"
"He doesn't care. He thinks it's funny because he doesn't have to put up with the fake laughs as I walk by or when I go to pick up my daughter from her practices, she's always saying how she looks like him."
"She does."
"I know."
"Well, tell him it's pissing you off."
"I've tried."
"I wish I could give you more advice honey."
"It's alright Sean. You'll always be here to hear my latest troubles."
"And I will always support you no matter what."
"Thank you!"
"You're welcome honey, now go kick some ass today."
"You know I will." Jane said as her camera director came in.
"Jane, are you ready?"
"Why not?" Jane said as they walked out onto the set and she went behind the counter.
"Ready?" The guy in the chair asked.
"Sure." Jane said as she looked around.
"Jane?"
"I'm fine." Jane said as this ate at her.
"Wait... Hold on." The guy said as he walked over to her.
"Hey! What's wrong?"
"Do you ever feel like your life is just falling apart?" Jane asked as she wiped tears from her eyes and face.
"Sometimes, but you always told us to be strong and never let ourselves be broken down."
"Well, I think I'm just trying to be the person that wants to fix everything."
"Is everything okay?" A guy asked.
"Dude, she needs a moment. Hold on you asshole."
"What am I cooking today?"
"Salmon with oven roasted green beans and vegetables."
"Can you do me a personal favor?"
"Sure. What is it?"
"Can you figure out why I am so emotional?"
"Sure honey."
"I have just not been feeling myself. All my emotions are all together and I just don't have a whole lot of energy."
"It could be depression."
"Maybe Google my symptoms."
"Okay."
"There all on a piece of paper in my laptop case."
"Alright. I will see what I can do ma'am."
"Alrighty. Let's do this!" Jane said as she smiled and the guy knew she was ready.
"Ready?"
"Yes!" Jane smiled as the production manager stood up.
"And we're live in five... four... three... two... one."
"Hello and welcome to today's show. I'm your host, I'm Jane Montgomery and today, we'll be cooking three different options." Jane talked as Jack walked over to see Sean as he looked at Nora.
"Hey man!" Jack said as Sean ignored his handshake.
"First one is one of my family's favorite breakfast options. I usually serve this on the weekends due to a rush in my house due to having two teenagers and my husband goes before I leave and drop my and daughter off at school, so I usually make homemade biscuits and chocolate gravy because my kids absolutely love them and they go and tell their friends and before I know it, I have a houseful of kids, plus my kids." Jane said as she got out her ingredients.
...
The show was wrapping up as Jack stood there and watched her cook as she pulled out a pan of baked vegetables.
"And that everyone is how I usually make my vegetables at home. So, if I can get my babies to eat them, then you can get your babies to eat them too and I hope you enjoyed today's show and tune in next week for another week of southern cooking with me. I'm your host, Jane Montgomery and I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I love you all and God Bless." Jane said as the lights and camera went off as the credits rolled.
"And... That's a wrap!" The producer said as Jane took off her apron and washed her hands.
Jack walked over to her as she heard him.
"Hello gorgeous."
"Apology flowers?"
"Last night, I said some things I should not of said." Jack said as she started to clean up.
"You think this is funny, don't you?"
"No."
"Then why on earth did you say that you might still have the hots for Nora?"
"To get through to you."
"Oh you sure did, didn't you?"
"Did the kids ask about me this morning at breakfast?"
"No."
"Why?"
"Because they were not home last night or morning."
"Where were they?"
"At my mom's house."
"Sweetheart, can we just talk."
"No, I have to go talk to Mr. Reddit about next week's segments. I don't have time for you to come in here and interrupt me while I'm working." Jane said
"I came down here to apologize."
"Whatever! Show yourself out."
"What else do you want me to say?"
"Nothing! These last two weeks have been nothing but pure torture for me. I've had to put up with the snide remarks and gawky stares from Nora Smith and all the committee women." Jane said as she started having a pain in her side.
"After tomorrow, we won't have to deal with Nora till another nine years from now."
"Maybe you should marry her and I hope you have beautiful children together." Jane said as she started putting food in containers to take home to her kids.
"Baby, what do you want? Another baby?"
"We tried for years and nothing happened."
"The doctor said that we could get a surrogate mother."
"I'm done talking about this." Jane said as she stormed off the set in tears.
In the elevator
"Jane, you were amazing today."
"Well thank you."
"Are you okay?"
"Yes." Jane said as she kept herself together.
...
That evening
Jane came home from work to see her kids doing their homework at the island as she set the groceries down on the counter.
"Hey mama." Her son said as she was off in her own world.
Connor and Raegan seen the look of sadness on their mother's face as she put a skillet on the stove.
"Mama?" Raegan questioned
"Listen... I am going to lay down for awhile."
"Mama, you're ignoring us." Raegan said
"Blame your father."
"You said that yesterday." Connor said
"Well, it's his fault."
"What did he do?"
"Ask him." Jane said as Jack walked in.
All three of them turned their attention to Jack.
"What is going on?" Connor asked
"Yeah, what's going on? You two have been avoiding each other and I don't like it." Raegan said.
"Your father has something for another woman."
"What?" They both said
"Kids, that's not true." Jack said.
"Then, what's the deal?"
"I would like to know too." Jane said
"Your mother has clearly lost her mind."
"And you lost something else."
"I have something special planned for her tomorrow night and she clearly thinks I have feelings for another woman."
"Then why have you been coming home late and missing dinner every night with me and the kids."
"Because I wanted to surprise you."
"By staying out late?"
"No, by this." Jack said as he got down on one knee.
"A marriage proposal?"
"Aww daddy." Raegan said
"Jane Ann Wilson Montgomery, will you marry me again?" Jack asked as Connor took a picture and Raegan watched the sincere moment.
"Yes!" Jane said as Jack slid the new ring on her finger.
"Baby, I know we said some things we did not mean, but I would never do anything to hurt you."
"It's alright now baby, I just had a rough week."
"After tomorrow, we don't have to worry about jealous ex girlfriends or someone trying to ruin everything between us."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
...
They had dinner and the kids were in bed.
Jack and Jane decided to take a bath together as he kissed the places he soaped and washed on her back.
"When you came onto the set today and apologized, I just didn't know what to say."
"Besides what you said."
"Yes and we forgave each other."
"And that's all that matters."
"Let's start trying again." Jack said as Jane had doubts.
"What if I'm too old to have another baby?" Jane questioned.
"You're not too old baby." Jack said.
"Yes I am."
"Not to me."
"That's not how my body works. I had our babies in my late thirties."
"You were thirty six."
"We should have had them earlier in our lives."
"God has a place for everything and if he wanted us to have another baby, then we will."
"Baby, it's too late. I know we always wanted to have our third baby, but I'm happy with the two we have."
"I know and I am too."
...
They got out and got ready for bed.
"Maybe Connor and Raegan will make us grandparents one of these days." Jack said, which earned him a look from Jane.
"Not any time soon. They're fifteen and in their first year of high school."
"They have a show called 16 and pregnant."
"Don't make me lose my mind."
"I was just saying."
"The kids got an earful when they started high school."
"What? By lecturing them."
"They also have a mandatory classes to teach them about the pros and cons of sex."
"Health class can be a joke."
"To you it may, but I don't want to become a grandma just yet."
"One of these days, we'll be grandparents."
"Just hopefully not soon."
"Kids are so easily pressured by things. That powerful "no" word does not always work."
"Are you trying to give me more to stress about?"
"Let's not fight."
"You're the one who wants to be a grandpa."
"Not yet."
"Let's go to bed, I have an early day tomorrow and I don't need this to pile up on the list of things to stress about." Jane said as she turned out her lamp.
"Okay."
...
Around the dawn of the early morning, Jack woke up to the sound of something going on downstairs as he got up from the bed.
He grabbed his baseball bat out of the
cor, which I only use in a case of protection.
I walked downstairs to see Jane at the kitchen table, doing paperwork with her reading glasses on.
"Honey?"
"Yeah."
"Why are you doing paperwork so early in the morning for?"
"I just want it to be done early."
"Are you upset about something?"
"Is it obvious?"
"By the way your body language is, yes."
"Do you know that you have to kiss her tomorrow."
"I won't do it."
"It's tradition. You did it while we were dating."
"When?"
"Homecoming. I had a flashback of that day while I was asleep and I jolted up from sweating and that's why I am down here, doing paperwork at the crack of dawn."
"Jane, I don't want this to come in between us."
"If she came runnin' back to you, which would probably happen. What would you do if I had kissed another boy in high school if I was elected Miss Georgia Peach?"
"I don't know."
"Is that you're favorite phrase?"
"You're asking me things when I'm half asleep. What do you want me to say?"
"How about you don't lock lips with her tonight and if you do, then I'm not marrying you again."
"Why are you suddenly so upset about this?"
"Because you're kissing another woman."
"It's not like she'll stick her tongue down my throat." Jack said as Jane's face went pale.
"I'm done."
"What?"
"I said I'm done. I'm not going to the reunion tonight." Jane said as she went to walk out of the kitchen.
"You're being foolish."
"I hope you have a great time Jack, because when you get home, I'll have your bags packed for you, sitting on the porch." Jane said as she walked off.
"Jane?" Jack called out.
"Sleep on the couch." Jane said as she slammed their bedroom door shut.
Jack went into the living room as he laid down on the couch and drifted off to sleep.
...
Jane laid in bed, tears down her cheeks as she felt a wave of nausea swoon over her.
"Why the hell am I feeling this way?"
"Maybe stress or that my nerves are all frazzled right now."
After a few minutes, Jane drifted off to sleep.
Author's Note: You know? When you have a lot of great ideas and all of a sudden, you feel like your books are motion pictures in your mind. Yeah, this chapter reminds me of a reunion in a movie where the ex girlfriend wants her ex back and he's married. Who should play Nora? Maybe Jessica?
NxnsxgnorsDxmon and JessicaLangeLove, I need y'all's help? Please? ❤
