Chapter 12: Big Moving Day!
Both Jack and Jane woke up that morning, ready to start a new life in a new city and new state as Jane yawned when she noticed her stomach in the mirror.
"Now, I'm starting to really show now."
"You look beautiful today."
"Well, thank you." Jane leans in to kiss him, but was interrupted when Connor and Raegan came in and started jumping on their bed like if it were Christmas already.
"Kids, y'all are acting like it's Christmas, settle down." Jane scolded them.
"It feels like Christmas!" Raegan said
"We already got everything in our rooms packed up."
"Everything?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, well we still have to get dressed, so give us some time to get up."
"Okay." Both of them jumped off the bed.
"What a great way to get woke up." Jane said as she sat up.
"I guess their excited to move."
"I am too, but my excitement is having to be put on hold right now." Jane said as she got up.
"I have a baby bump now." Jane said happily, walking by the mirror in their bathroom.
"I still think we're having a boy." They both stood there, brushing their teeth.
"We'll find out what we're having soon darling."
"Are we going to do a gender reveal?"
"Everyone says that's not a good idea."
"Why not?"
"Honey, people are going to judge."
"They always do."
"I just want our close family and that's it."
"No friends?"
"Who are we gonna invite?"
"Brynn, your hair and makeup stylist. Some more close friends."
"Well, if their willing to drive from Atlanta to Nashville, they're more than welcome to come."
"Well, all this talk about food is making me hungry."
"Are you pregnant too honey?"
"That would be quite impossible my dear."
"I have actually seen a pregnant man."
"Where?"
"On TV a few years back."
"Imagine how painful it'd be if that was possible."
"It was painful to me to begin with."
"Hopefully it won't be too bad this time around."
"Yeah right." Jane said as she walked off.
...
She almost made it downstairs when a knock came to their front door as Raegan answered it.
"Grandma!"
"Hello darling."
"Great! Your mother is here sweetheart." Jack whispered sarcastically in Jane's ear.
"I know honey, I can hear her loud and clear." Jane smiled and talked through her teeth.
He mother stepped inside, over the threshold to see her daughter as she sighed like she always did when she visited.
"Jane, why aren't you dressed?" Her mother asked as she noticed Jane's white, silk floral print robe.
"Mom, I just woke up."
"And he's not wearing pants, just a robe."
"Hi Mary."
"We just woke up mom." Jane said as her mother walked through the house and into the kitchen.
"What brings you by Mary?"
"Well Jack, since you're moving my daughter and my grandchildren away from me, I just thought I'd let you know how our family feels about it."
"Mom, it was my decision." Jane said
"Jane, you have so much going for you here in Atlanta, there is nothing Nashville that you don't have here, plus you don't have any family living there."
"Mama, Nashville is wonderful and the kids are so excited."
"So, when will be the next time I'll get to see my grandchildren?"
"At the party we're having to reveal your new grandchild's gender."
"A gender reveal? Jane, those are so silly."
"It's just a party, plus we'll be biting into cupcakes to reveal the gender."
"You should not eat sugar when you're pregnant."
"It's not my fault mama that I crave random things."
"Jane, have y'all bought a house yet?"
"Yes mom, we have and it's beautiful."
"How far is Nashville from Atlanta?"
"Three hours, minus rest stops." Jack said
"Three hours?" Mary asked
"It's not like we're moving to Europe mom."
"You belong here in Atlanta, Jane."
"Mom, I'm leaving today and you can come visit any time you want to."
...
A few hours later, Jane walked around the house she once called her own as so many memories were made here.
"Babe?" Jack asked as he seen Jane gently stroking the archway of the door they had measured the height of how tall the kids had gotten.
"I need a few moments honey. I'm not ready to say goodbye yet."
"Take your time baby, we're in no rush."
"The kids might be."
"They have their phones and earbuds with music and Netflix, their good babe."
"Do you remember the day I found I was pregnant?"
"We had no idea we were going to have twins."
"That was a surprise. I was constantly sick and could not keep anything down."
"I thought you had the stomach flu."
"I've had the flu before, but nothing compared to what I experienced with the kids."
"I took plenty of pictures of the kids and us in and out of house for the baby."
"I'll miss this house, it's been great to us."
"With a few minor repairs."
"Like when the pipes busted in the basement?"
"I hope it never gets that cold in Nashville."
"I heard it hardly snows in Tennessee."
"That's a good thing."
"I love you."
"I love you too baby."
Jane sighed as she looked around her former home as she felt Jack's arm slip around her waist and kiss her head.
"Are you ready to go?" Jane asked him.
"Yes."
...
They were now on the road as Jane took one of her pregnancy naps as the kids were asleep too.
They had about an hour left before they would be finally settling down in Nashville.
Jane woke to see the view as she smiled, she loved visiting Nashville on business trips.
"How much longer?" Connor asked
"We're almost there bud."
"Sorry, I'm just impatient to see the new house."
"How many bedrooms does it have?"
"Four bedrooms and two bathrooms."
"One for us, you two have your own bedroom and the nursery."
"I'm hoping to have a sister."
"No way! I want a brother."
"We'll find out the gender soon y'all."
"It's exciting moving to a new place. I've got all the addresses to each place close by where we live so we can just drive there with no directions once we get familiar with everything."
"Before we go to the house, I need to use the restroom."
"I do too." The kids said as Jack pulled into a gas station as he sighed, making sure that they entered the convenient store safely.
...
They were close to the house when all of a sudden, Jane felt like a cricket ran across her stomach.
"I think the baby just moved."
"Can we feel?"
"Hold on kids, we're almost home." Jack said as he smiled at Jane, knowing she was happy about their new home and new lives here in Nashville.
"I'm still saying it's a boy."
"How so?"
"You craved one sweet thing since we got pregnant."
"And you're glowing baby."
"Plus, your hair is still thick and you have no acne."
"And I seen you eat crackers, pickles and salted caramel ice cream together."
Everyone shrugged at how gross it sounded.
"I'm not even pregnant, but mama you make me not want to."
"Keep it that way." Jack said as he pulled up to the house.
"Alright, let's go!" Connor said as they wasted no time getting out of the car as Jack unlocked the door and picked Jane up bridal style and carried her over the threshold.
"So, when have y'all decided to renew your vows?"
"Well, we haven't yet sweetheart, but we will."
"Before or after the baby is born?"
"I was thinking before?"
"How about next weekend?"
"Honey, that can't be done in a week's notice. It takes time to plan every single detail."
"We'll plan it out soon."
...
Later on that night, Jack was reading the newspaper he had picked up while he was in town, getting dinner as Jane opened the bathroom door.
"Honey?"
"Yeah?"
"I was thinking about our vow renewal at supper and maybe it's best if we just have a simple one." Jane said getting in beside of him as she laid her head on his chest and he played with her hair.
"Then, that's what we'll have."
"Although, it will be ridiculous seeing me big as a barrel when I'm further along."
You will not be big as a barrel."
"You think so?"
"You looked beautiful when you were pregnant with Connor and Raegan, that hasn't changed, pregnant or not."
"Aww honey, you're handsome too."
"Are you ready for bed?"
"Yep." Jane said as Jack kissed her.
"I mean as in sleep honey."
"I was talking about sleeping baby doll."
"Yeah right." Jane said as she rolled her eyes.
"Goodnight baby."
"Goodnight honey."
"Well, baby this is our new home." Jack talked to her stomach.
"I love you baby doll."
"I love you too baby." They kissed and turned out the lights as they drifted off to sleep.
