Chapter 10: Reconciling

Today was the first day of marriage counseling for Jack and Jane, both were nervous as they felt like this was their actual chance to save their marriage.

Jack had just woken up to hear Jane getting sick as he rushed by her side as she laid on the bathroom floor.

"Never fails." Jane said as she laid on the floor, hoping it would soothe the way she was feeling.

"You were sicker than that with our kids babe."

"That's because I was pregnant with twins the last time honey."

"You were still sick all the time babe."

"I don't miss this part at all." Jane said as she stood up as Jack carried her back to their bed.

"We don't have to be there until ten."

"Okay."

"Now, just rest and I'll go make breakfast for the kids."

"Okay, I'll just rest, but as soon as the kids are off to school, I want to wake up and see you beside of me."

"You will, now close your pretty little eyes and rest."

Jane went back to sleep as Jack went downstairs to make breakfast for him and the kids.

"Where's mama?"

"She doesn't feel good, so she laid back down for awhile."

"So, do you need us to help you cook?"

"No, I've got it."

Connor and Raegan looked at each other like he didn't even know how to cook as he started cooking.

...

He made waffles, eggs and bacon with fruit as he served the kids and himself as he sat down to eat.

"We thought this wouldn't be edible." Connor said

"Kids, I've made breakfast for y'all before."

"Now, we have to see if mama can eat it." Raegan said

"Not with the way she's feeling right now. I doubt she'd be able to keep the eggs and bacon down."

"She needs to eat something."

"She has pregnancy cravings, so it won't be hard to depict from that."

"Well, we gotta get to school."

"Are y'all riding the bus?"

"No, a friend of mom's is picking us up."

"Okay."

"Bye dad."

"Bye guys."

...

The kids went to school as Jack cleaned up the kitchen as he walked upstairs into their bedroom to see Jane still sleeping as he cuddled up next to her.

She looked so peaceful as she rested, knowing it would not always be pleasant with the frequent morning sickness and their baby growing each and every day.

...

A few hours later, they both woke up to start getting ready for the day as Jane noticed her stomach in the mirror as she put her blouse on.

"Are you saying hi to everyone sweetheart?" Jane asked as her stomach poked out.

"How are you feeling babe?"

"Tired and still a bit nauseous."

"Well, I made something to settle your stomach."

"What did you make?"

"Chicken noodle soup with vegetables."

"Homemade or out of a can?"

"Out of a can. I'm not that great of a cook like you babe."

"You do know how to grill a nice steak."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." Jane smiled as he kissed her.

He started kissing her neck as she almost told him to stop, but he kissed a weak spot that made her feel all bubbly inside.

"Want me to stop?" Jack asked her as she wanted to say yes, but she knew they would have to anyway.

"You can if you want to."

"I don't want to, but we unfortunately have to go to marriage counselling."

"This will be good for us."

"I know." Jack said as he caressed her stomach.

"I love you Janie."

"I love you too Jack."

...

They soon arrived at the place where their counselling would take place as Jane was nervous what they'd ask them, she knew Jack was not as talkative when it came to this and hopefully, it would go good as she silently prayed.

They signed in and took a seat to see couples who were there and a few with kids and teenagers, which made her mind think of their kids.

Their names were called as Jack took Jane's hand into his and they were led into their therapist's office as they all sat down.

"Welcome Jack and Jane."

"Hello." Jack said, not as welcoming as she had been as he hated this idea, but he did this for Jane.

"Hello." Jane said warmingly.

"Let's talk about why you're both here today."

"To fix our marriage." Jane said

"What about you Jack?"

"Same thing."

"And I want to help you restore your marriage. We need figure out the steps and see what helps to do that."

"That's what I would like to do." Jane said

"First, let's talk about your lives."

"Okay." Jack said

"How did y'all meet?"

"In high school, we were biology partners." Jane said

"Were you attracted to her?"

"Very." Jack said as Jane laughed.

"What about you Jane?"

"Yeah, I was very attracted to him."

"I just looked beside me and thought "He's handsome."

"Jack, what about you? How did Jane make you feel?"

"I was so nervous that I felt tingly."

"What about when you first knew that she was the one?"

"When I took her to meet my parents over fall break that year. My mom said she could be the one and she was right."

"Jane, what did you feel when you met Jack?"

"Hopeful. I had just gotten out of a three year relationship that wasn't goin' anywhere and I really felt something strong inside for Jack."

"How did he propose?"

"In a gazebo."

"Where?"

"In a town that we first said we love you to each other."

"I was so nervous."

"He said he thought he lost the ring, but he found it."

"What attracted y'all to each other?"

"Her smile and her eyes."

"His smile."

"Do you still feel the same way about each other?"

"I do." Jack said

"I do too."

"What about kids?"

"We have two and one on the way." Jack said

"Congratulations!"

"Thank you." Jane said

"So, are your kids grown?"

"No, our kids are fifteen, sixteen in December."

"And when are you due?"

"Around my birthday." Jane said

"Well, I won't be seeing y'all that long, but we'll do what's best for you both."

...

The first session was successful as Jack scooped Jane up into his arms as she yelped in surprise.

"Jack, what are you doing?"

"I'm gonna start carrying you around."

"Honey, I'm fine."
.
"I don't want you to get tired."

"Well, I am tired."

"Then, you can rest while I make dinner."

"Okay honey."

Jack spun her around as Jane started laughing as she felt like a teenager for a moment because he used to pick her up and spin her around when they were younger.

"I love you Jane." He said as he kissed her and lowered her back down to the ground as he stood there with her, wrapped in his arms, shielding her from the cold.

"I love you too Jack." Jane said as she smiled.

"Let's go home."

"I'm craving Italian."

"Then I'll make something Italian tonight."

"With my help?"

"Of course malady."

"And after dinner?"

"A shower and bed for you.'

"I was more leaning on what we were doing before we left the house."

"Okay." Jack said as he opened the passenger side for her.

...

They arrived home to see the kids at the table, doing their homework as the house stood in a steady silence.

"How was school kids?''

"Good mama." Raegan said

"What about you Connor?"

Connor and Raegan looked at each other as Connor handed Jane a folded up piece of paper.

Jane opened it and looked at him.

"What happened?" Jack asked

"He started it."

"How did it start?"

"I was just standing at my locker, minding my own business and this new jock came up behind me and started pushing me."

"Why does it say you pushed him back?"

"They're trying to frame me mama."

"Well, I'll go to the school tomorrow and talk to your principal."

"Okay."

"Now, are y'all done with your homework?" Jack asked

"Yes." They both said.

"Okay."

Jack started preparing dinner as Jane sat at the island, staring at the piece of paper that Connor handed her.

"Where the hell do they get off on framing our son on something he didn't start?" Jane questioned as she sat down.

"I say we both go up there tomorrow."

"Honey, I'm perfectly capable of doing it by myself."

''I'm going with you tomorrow."

"Okay honey."

"I just don't understand what happened to the first person who starts it first, gets in trouble."

"Times have changed baby."

"Well, their not about to start with our son." Jane said as she got up and went into the living room to watch TV, where Connor and Raegan were watching some drama show.

"What are y'all watching?"

"The Vampire Diaries."

"Alright."

"Mama, do you want to binge watch American Horror Story with us?" Connor asked

"Sure sweetheart."

"Yes!" The kids said.

...

Jack served dinner as they all sat around the table as Jane said prayer and they started eating.

"This is good honey." Jane said

"Thank you sweetheart."

"You're welcome."

"Another thing I wanted to talk to y'all about is, Halloween is coming up and I got invited to a friend's house." Connor said

"That's not a good idea." Jane said

"Why?"

"Because there will be drinking and god knows what else there."

"So, what am I supposed to do on Halloween?"

"Well, we have our annual party here every year."

"Yes, for your co-workers." Raegan said

"I'd rather y'all be safe with us than at some party where the cops will get called."

...

Later on that night

Jane was getting ready for bed as she was brushing her teeth when Jack wrapped his arms around her.

"Yes?"

"You know how beautiful you look tonight?"

"Not at all."

"You are beautiful baby doll, whether you think so or not."

"Plus, you're glowing darling!"

"I don't think so."

"Another thing, I got a new job offer in Nashville. After what Connor told me today about people framing him for a fight he did not start, I thought it would be a good idea."

Jane at the moment, felt like she was on cloud nine, being in her husband's arms made her feel safe."

"I like that idea, work has been a hassle here lately and I think we'd enjoy being in Nashville a whole lot better."

"And we've always loved Tennessee."

"Well, I'll start looking for houses online tomorrow."

"I'm going to as well. I thought I'd take off tomorrow since it might take me awhile at the school."

"I'm coming just in case."

"Some people get under my skin."

"Mine too, especially when it comes to our kids."

"I heard Tennessee is a great place to attend school."

"I just hope the kids will like it."

"I believe they will."

"We'll see."

"I know I won't be much help and all with the moving part due to the baby, but I might just try to help the kids think of the way they'll design their rooms and how I'll design our baby's nursery."

"We're only in our first trimester, but we'll be finding out the gender of our little baby soon."

''I can't wait!" Jane said happily.

"Me either, now let's go to bed." Jack said as they laid down with her in his arms.

"We need to choose a couple of baby names.''

"What names do you like?''

"That's hard. I like a lot of names and we had a hard time just choosing the kids names."

"I like Sawyer for a boy."

"I like that too."

"Another name I like is Britton."

"Like Connie Britton?"

"We watched too much American Horror Story tonight."

"We spent some much needed time with the kids and honey, I think if we moved to Nashville, it would be more of a chance to spend time with you and our kids."

"How do we tell the kids and get them to like the idea?"

"We bribe them." Jane laughed.

"With what?"

"They'll come up with something."

"I love you baby doll." Jack kissed her.

"I love you too baby." Jane said as they turned out the light.

They cuddled up in each others arms and went onto sleep as Jane felt Jack's hand caress her stomach as she smiled.
