3: "Trying is too much effort"
~Tuesday~
Riley Waters's (female) POV :
"Shut up Frank!" I yell from my room at my loud stepdad. Every freaking morning he has to yell at me for being late, but the truth is I'm not late.
"Don't take that tone with me you brat. I'm the reason your sorry ass has a roof over your head!" He shouts back. I could hear his big feet coming closer, so I throw my bag over my shoulders and plug in my earphones. I swiftly jump out my window, my house is one story, so it wasn't a high jump. I start running to my bus stop. Before I turn the corner I look back at Frank who is still looking out my window and flip him off.
He's a liar.
Let me explain why. When I was born, that was the first and last time I've ever met my father. He left as soon as he saw me; like most people. Years past my mom ment Frank, and blah blah blah. Anyways so I guess one day my mom found my dad and declared he pay child support, or she would take him to court and make a really really big deal of him leaving her on the streets with their child. My father being the bitch he is said no at first until my mom mentioned that his new happy family in New York didn't know about us here in California. Blah blah blah, and now my mom recives about 5,000 a month for me. And of course that goes to rent, bills, food, and stuff like that.
Plus Frank doesn't have an actual job, he just goes when he wants. He's lucky his boss is his cousin. My mom does work as a cook at a small restaurant, so that's cool. If only she wasn't wrapped around Frank's chubby finger then she would have been amazing rasing me.
"Riley! Riley! Get your ass on the bus already!" Crystal shouts at me knocking me out of thoughts.
"Shit, " I hiss as jump on the bus. The bus driver gives me a nasty look before slamming the doors shut.
Geez, she's only been here for a week a she already hates me.
I continue to walk the middle of the bus. I rise an eye brow as I approach my usual seat near the fire escape door. Usually it's just Crystal and I from our friend group who ride the bus, but for some reason my friend, Abigail Aero, is here.
"Let me guess, slashed tires again?" I ask as I take a seat next to her.
"Yup." She replies rolling her eyes.
"Fucking jerks." I mutter.
Crystal throws her feet onto the entire seat, and look me with a pout. "It's okay Riley, really it's not like I saved this seat for you." She shrugs.
I chuckle and shake my head. I look around and quickly look away when I notice someone looking at me. I'm not exactly good with socializing with people outside of my friend group. Why? Because either I end up embarrassing myself, or I end up fighting someone.
I know I have problems.
"So Riley, did you hear?" Abigail ask me with a smile.
I look at at her confused. "Hear what?" I ask squirting my eyes at her through my seeing glasses.
"That Colton Private School is shutting down today." She answers with worried face.
"And that's my problem how?" I say rolling my eyes.
I honestly hate those kids. They think they are all that and practically swim in money. I remember last fourth of July they had a huge party on beach, and left so much trash. Luckily for them a trash crew picked it up for them. Plus they think that money can solve every problem in the world.
"Well most of them are coming here to Anchor High." Abigail says with a smile.
"Don't joke with me Abby." I say narrowing my eyes at her.
She scoots farther ever so slightly. "I'm not, it's true. Mr. Brown told me so."
"Ugh, I hate those kids." I sigh.
"I don't know, I think it will nice to have new kids." Abby smiles.
"I agree with Abby, I met some kids the other day and they seemed really nice." Crystal buds in laying her head on the back of our seat from her seat behind us. I lightly growl to where no one can hear me, and took out my laptop.
"Riley leave that laptop for a bit." Abby says in her motherly hispanic voice, but I didn't pay any attention to her. I just typed away, and put my brightness down so that only I can see what I was doing.
I hacked into my biological father's daughter's Instagram account yesterday. I was finally able to find out who she was. I plug in some earphones, and see a video so I decided to see what it was about. I click on it. The girl around my age smiles at the camera showing off her perfect teeth. She seems happy and complete as she talks about her day. As she walks around in large house smiling, she bumps into someone who smiles at the camera. His blue eyes sparkle as he looks at his perfect daughter.
"And this is my amazing father!" She shouts as she hugs my biological father.
"Hey princess, how's it going?" He asked her. I bit the inside of my cheek hard stopping myself from feeling the pain in my chest when hearing his words.
Princess? I was never called princess as a kid. It was always just Riley. And she seems to be my age, but he still calls her princess.
"He's my dad, and only my dad." She gushes and kisses his cheek. He smiles and hugs her tightly with so much love and care. The video ends ready to play again, but I quickly stop the video.
I feel like crying so bad, but I can't. I don't have any tears left to cry. The bus comes to a stop, and I quickly unplugged my earphones. I place everything in my backpack ready to get off.
"Riley, are you okay?" Abby ask me her eye brows frowning. Both Riley and Crystal look at me in worry, so I blink my eyes a couple of times; and shrug.
The reason I hate those rich kids, because my father's new family in New York is rich. As soon as he left us, I never had a normal childhood.
"I'm fine. Just move please." I reply giving Abby a straight face, but Abby didn't move intead she stays in her seat.
"Not until you..." I cut her off. The seat infront of us is empty, so I carefully jump over the seat, and get off the bus. I walk into the library and sit down, pulling out my laptop.
For a moment I just sit there staring at my laptops surface. I slowly trace my fingers around the outline of the stickers I placed on there a long time ago. I smile remembering the Christmas my aunt bought it for me. The way she understood me and loved me was everything I could ever ask for, but sadly life isn't fair and took her away from me.
"Riley?" a female voice ask from behind me. I froze in shock to hear her, Hayden Gray.
I quickly blink way the threatening tears, and turn to look at her. "Yeah?" I ask causally in a flat tone.
"Look I know that you don't like me because I accidentally started a bad rumor about you, but I need some help." Hayden says with a sugar coated voice, her blue eyes looking at me with fake sorrow.
"Accidentally? You said I was lesbian and would pay someone five dollars to fuck me." I say rolling my eyes at her. I begin to put my stuff away, but she stops me.
" I know, I'm honestly sorry. I made it up already though, why do you think it stop the same day it started." She say looking at me with sad eyes. I narrow my eyes at her, trying to determine whether or not she was lying.
"And how did you do that?" I ask crossing my arms and leaning back into my chair.
"I told everyone that it was a lie, and that you had a boyfriend." She says looking proud of herself.
"But that was another lie. I've never had a boyfriend before." I sigh.
"Eh, it was a long time ago. Plus they believed it, I'm not going thought it took some convincing. Don't get me wrong, your not exactly good with socializing, but you do have a pretty face behind those big glasses. You just got to try." She giggles patting my face.
I push her hand way, and glare at her; she frowns. "Trying is too much effort, I'm not trying to impress anyone." I say and with that I place my laptop into my backpack and stand up.
"Riley, I am truly sorry, and I understand if you don't help me. But please just forgive me?" She pleads with actual sorrow in her eyes.
I sigh in defeat. "Fine whatever, meet me here at lunch." I mutter and walk out the library, leaving her there with a smile.
