6 cannons had went off.
At least, that was how many Rhys had counted.
Rhys hadn't seen anything of what happened at the cornucopia. She'd just ran. She ran until she couldn't bare to run any longer.
Huffing and panting, Rhys slightly regretted not grabbing anything.
She had nothing.
What was she going to do now?
Suddenly, she heard the crashing of waves.
Water.
She needed water.
But she was certain that all the other tributes would be searching for water too.
She decided to go and follow the sound of the water.
"I'm probably close to the border of the arena..." she thought aloud.
In past years, tributes had died just by touching the arena with a fingertip. She didn't want that.
How could she avoid that?
She stopped to think.
She tore a twig off of a tree, and threw it forward.
It didn't hit anything, so she walked towards it, and threw it again.
This time, it caught on something.
Bolts of electricity came off of what seemed to be the water she'd heard earlier.
She tried to figure out what had happened.
Her stick was completely charred. She had thrown the stick into the border.
The border was camouflaged to look like a lake.
It was a trap, she finally figured.
The water wasn't real. Anyone who heard the water and was thirsty would attempt to go towards the lake.
But they would be electrocuted by the border and die.
Clever.
Cruel, but clever.
Rhys wasn't going to fall for that.
She heard footsteps coming towards her, practically stomping through the forest.
Panicking, she hid herself behind a tree.
"Why am I so thirsty already?" a young girl's voice loudly called out.
Rhys already didn't like this. This girl was much too loud.
"Is that... water?" the girl asked.
"Ugh, stupid Hunger Games making me have to get water for myself! The other tributes should be bowing down to me!"
Rhys peeked out from behind her hiding tree.
The girl looked to be young--probably 12, like Rhys.
Rhys thought it was the girl from Three. She had a lot of stuff on her... A huge backpack and a bow and arrow that was much to big for her.
Rhys hid back behind the tree. She should warn the other girl about the border, right?
Rhys hesitated. She wanted to help, she always did. But the girl from Three was loud, whiny, and overall not a good ally.
Plus, if Rhys was smart enough to figure out the trap, shouldn't she be too?
A loud zap and an even louder shriek entered Rhys' ears.
Thirdly, a cannon boom.

During Training, the Careers had noticed the attitude of just about everyone. And several people, they decided, would make a good addition to their team.
Standing at the cornucopia was Harper, Cole, Clara, and their additions: Manny and Rachett. They had asked Johd to be on their team as well, but he had refused. So Johd was against them.
"So Gleams is dead then?" Harper said.
"Yeah. That little girl from Seven killed him," Rachett hissed, "I say we go after her first."
"Does she have allies?" Clara asked logically.
"The boy from Four I saw," Cole mentioned.
"In Training, I think she talked about allying with someone from Eleven," Harper said.
"The boy? The boy is dead so I don't think we'll have to deal with that," Manny said, almost proudly.
"Sounds good then?" Cole confirmed.
"Yep," Harper said.
"Boy from Four and girl from Seven, here we come," Rachett grinned.

"I still can't believe you volunteered because of me..."
Evie mumbled to herself. She was referring to her boyfriend, Jackson, who had volunteered after she had been picked as a tribute.
But she and him were separated now.
The cornucopia had been a mess. She had tried to get to him, but had been forced away when two boys had started fighting in between them.
She had to find him.
She wanted to start screaming out his name to look for him, but knew that that would get her killed.
She only hoped he hadn't been killed in the bloodbath.

Link paced back and forth.
He had no allies at this point.
He had plenty of food, no water, and a bow and arrow. He wasn't the best with any weapons, but having one certainly helped.
He suddenly heard a scream.
It sounded like it had come from a little girl!
A bit hesitantly, he followed the sound.
As he came closer, he spotted what caused the commotion.
The Careers.
He quickly--and quietly--hid in the bushes.
Link could've sworn there was more Careers than there should've been. 2 Career Districts, 6 Careers.
They surrounded a little girl, the one from Five.
"Please, let me go!" the little girl begged.
"Why?" one of the male Careers said. Link thought it was the boy from Twelve, but that couldn't be right.
The girl from Five only whimpered softly, having nothing else to say. She looked around for any means of escape, but she could not find one.
Link readied the bow, pointing it at one of the guys that he thought didn't belong.
He leg go of the string.
The arrow soared past him, completely missing the target.
However, the Careers were so focused on the girl from Five that none of them noticed.
He was wasting arrows.
But one more shot couldn't hurt, right?
The girl from Five screamed, but he paid no attention.
Link readied the bow once again.
His mind was razor focused. His mind was far too focused to hear or see anything but the bow, the arrow, and the target.
Too focused to hear a cannon boom.
He held his breath, and let go of the arrow.
This time the arrow found itself in the neck of the target.
The male Career fell to the ground, blood dripping from his throat.
"Manny!" the girl from One cried out, dropping next to the Career that Link had shot.
A cannon boomed, snapping Link from his focus.
Link took just a second to see the chaos unfold.
The first thing he noticed was that the girl from Five was dead. That was why she had been screaming. They had killed her.
The second thing was that he needed to run.
Now.
Link turned, and just ran.
He didn't know who was chasing, if they were chasing him at all.
Link wasn't the fastest of runners, but he wasn't the slowest either.
He just really hoped he was faster than whoever decided to chase him.
