As the sun set, Kimi found herself in a particularly difficult situation.

"No, no, no! Please. Don't kill me," she said. It was similar to begging, but not quite there yet.

"Why not?" the boy from Eight said.

Kimi sat on her knees, hands in the air. He held a dagger at her face.

"I can help you."

"With what?"

"...My name is Kimi, District Nine. You're stressed. I can tell. Let me help you."

"Um, I have a girlfriend."

"No! That's not what I meant. Where is she? Is she at home?"

When he didn't respond, Kimi knew she needed to try something else.

"Please. I'll help you, and then you'll never see me again."

The boy was silent again, but this time Kimi knew it was because he was thinking.

"My name is Jackson. I won't be forgetting about my girlfriend. We aren't even allies, so if I see you again after we find her, I will kill you."

"Of course!"

Kimi climbed to her feet.

"So what's our game plan?"

"I honestly don't know, Louis. I'm really sorry, but I don't want to lie to you."

"It's okay, Elora. Plans don't always work out anyways."

Elora and Louis were walking through the forest.

They hadn't intended on becoming allies, but they would both probably have died at some point if it weren't for each other.

Louis had gotten water, but no food. While Elora had gotten food, but no water.

And neither of them wanted to kill either, which could be a problem later, but for now, the two were alright.

The sun had just barely dipped beneath the horizon. Color still painted the sky.

The deaths hadn't been shown yet.

"Louis! Hide somewhere! Someone's coming!"

The arena progressively getting darker, Louis hid in a bush. Once the light had gone completely, no one would be able to see him.

Louis noticed that Elora didn't hide.

She walked up to the person that was coming.

Louis couldn't see very well, but he could see that the person was a male.

Elora and him didn't share two words before the male pulled out something--something that shined even in the dim light--and struck Elora with it.

Elora fell to the ground.

Louis noticed that the male looked at her.

Elora's chest heaved.

Louis' heart was pounding, his breath shaking. But he had to be brave.

The male dug his weapon into Elora's chest. She fell limp, no more heaving.

A cannon boomed.

Louis tried so desperately to keep quiet.

The male lit a match, instantly exposing Louis.

Louis didn't move. He knew that he was found, but he didn't move.

"Come out," the male said.

Louis hesitated a moment, before stepping into the light.

He was terrified.

But he kept it hidden. He had to stay strong.

Louis looked at the male. The match didn't show him much, but he thought it looked like the male from Five. Johd? Louis only remembered his name because it was so strange.

"I'm not going to hurt you," Johd said.

"But you just--"

"I know, I know."

Louis wanted to run.

But he held his ground.

Johd was definitely faster than him.

"Just go," Johd said, shaking his head. "Ju-Just go."

Louis turned, ran, and didn't look back.

Rhys stared at the sky above her. The anthem had just played, she was trying to find out everyone that had died.

She couldn't see anything. Only trees.

So, she decided, she would climb the tree.

She started her adventure up the tree.

She quickly made it to the top of the tree.

All the faces appeared--one by one--in the sky.

The District 1 male was first, and Rhys learned his name was Gleams Alexander.

Then appeared District 3's male. Sarrium Trillion.

District 3's female was third. Angel Rave.

Guilt swelled in Rhys' face when Angel appeared. Rhys had let her die.

District 5 female. Meriten Hudson.

District 6 female. Chavelle Darling.

District 7 male. Manny Holmes.

District 10 female. Bexley.

Rhys found in interesting that Bexley no last name.

District 10 male. William Cranes.

District 11 male. Tanth Opum.

District 12 female. Elora Desmond.

10 deaths on the first day.

The most deaths usually happened on the first day, but 10 was still a lot.

District 3, District 10, and District 11 already had no tributes left.

Rhys sat in her thoughts for just a moment.

A loud cannon boom shook her from her thoughts.

And the tree she was sitting in.

Rhys was sure she was going to die.

Tree branches tore at her limbs and her face.

She screamed.

She couldn't help it.

Rhys hit the ground.

She was completely still.

Rhys blinked.

She was alive.

In severe pain, yes, but alive.

Tears leaked from her eyes, but she kept quiet. Or, as quiet as one could after falling from a tree.

Rhys was bleeding from a deep cut on her cheek--and several other cuts--and her leg felt like it was broken.

But she was alive.

Rhys had brought her backpack down with her, fortunately.

She dug through it quickly, searching for any medical supplies.

There was a wad of gauze which she applied graciously to her cuts.

But her leg.

Her leg needed a splint.

Which she did not have.

What was she going to do?

Was she going to make herself a splint?

Yes, yes she was.

It would be nothing like the one she needed, but it would have to do.

She set to work.

Kefira had originally wanted to sleep. But she couldn't. Not with no one to watch over her.

So she kept searching. For Zane and Marisa, she knew.

They were still allies, she hoped.

She had been looking since the bloodbath for them.

Hopefully, they were looking for her too.

Suddenly, she heard something.

Someone, actually.

Several someones.

She crept towards the sound, making sure to hold the throwing knives she had very carefully. She was not very good with them, but they would work.

Kefira came upon a group of about 6 people.

The Careers.

They all faced away from her.

"Well, well, well," one of them said, "What do we have here?"

Kefira tried to look around them to see what they did have here. She couldn't find out who at first, but then spotted two people staring at the Careers.

Zane and Marisa!
