Prison Paradise
"If you let me go I won't tell anyone!" I desperately tried to bargain.
"Look lady, we've been over this. I can't let you go. If can't do the time, then shouldn't have done the crime" he simply stated.
"But come on! Living the rest of my life on a secluded island!? Isn't that a bit overreacting? I mean it was only attempted murder! And it had a good reason too. But if-"
"OKAY LADY! ENOUGH!" He yelled, clenching his fists " we'll be there in ten minutes. So shut up!"
"My name is Julie" I said in a quiet voice. I sighed and leaned back, so I was pressed against the cold metal of the helicopter . I stared down at the metal cuffs, binding my hands. It could be worse right? I'll only be stuck on a small, probably snake infested island, by myself. Forever.
The stupid government thought it would be a good idea to ship all of the criminals isn't the states to separate islands, since the jails were filling up too quickly. Each island had an electric fence around it, to prevent anyone from leaving. You know even though there was, like twenty kilometers of shark-infested water surrounding it.
"Okay we're here, strap her in, Mark!" Yelled the pilot. I guess Mark is the name of the guard I annoyed earlier. Muscled arms stretched across me, and the seat belt rubbed against my arms. We looped around the island, giving me a view of my new "home". We slowly descended, and I closed my eyes, trying not to cry. Mark remained silent, obviously sensing that I was going to cry. The helicopter shook as it landed on the soft sand.
Marked helped me down and led me away from the helicopter. I couldn't control myself anymore, I fell to the ground, and started to bawl. After a minute, Mark grabbed me by the arm and lifted me up. He uncuffed me, and gave me a hug. I looked at him shocked, and hugged him back. It was going to be the last touch from humanity I would have, possibly forever. They might send another criminal to stay here, but I doubt it.
He let me go, patted my back, and went to help the pilot unload my supplies. I looked around my prison. It had a little beach, but was mostly forest. A few trees were leaned over, possibly from a storm and one tree was split completly in half. There was a large mountain in the middle of my island, that looked similar to a volcano. A stream led from the top of the mountain, down to the ocean, so there must be a fresh water pond or something.
Birds returned to their chirping, and squawking, as if I wasn't there.
When I looked back at the helicopter, I saw that the guys were finished unloading the stuff. I went over, and said bye to them, even though I had only known them for a couple of hours. They walked back to the helicopter and took off. I ran to the boxes, eager to see what I had to work with.
There were four boxes, varying in size. The largest one had all of my food in it. The wooden crate contained a large bag of rice, one of beans, canned food, thankfully a can opener, beef jerky, and dried fruit. That should last me a while, I thought to myself. On the bottom, I almost missed a small bottle of cheap beer. "Woo!" I yelled, I was twenty-four, over the legal drinking age, but to be honest, I would drink it regardless. I put it aside to save it for when I was really desperate. The other boxes just contained a tarp, a pot, one set of utensils, an old pair of my clothes, ten feet of thick rope, flint and steel, and a machete.
I thought about what to do. I had watched my fair share of survival shows, and picked up numerous tips, so I decided to make shelter first. It was already about noon, so I didn't have much time.
Using one of the leaning trees that was near the start of the forest, I slung the tarp around it, making a peaked roof. I then used the machete to cut down rods that were similar to bamboo, and I used that for a raised floor, since the land was slanting towards the ocean. I moved the crates so they made a back wall, and used them as storage. I tied everything together, by untwisting the rope, giving me five thinner pieces of rope. By the time I was done, it was well into the night.
Using the flint and steel I started a fire near my base and cooked some rice, using salt water. Throwing on the extra set of clothes over the ones I was already wearing, I tried to get some sleep.
I woke up the next morning, with barely any sleep, bug bites everywhere, and the still-smoking fire choking me. Yeah... this was going to be great.
