Chapter 23. He Won't Be Able To
"I can't believe this! Why would the castle be stealing magic?" Makarov put down his special wooden mug.
"We don't know, we talked about it last night, but we didn't think of anything," Meredy said. The door creaked open and Gildarts sat down. He seemed to have heard what was going on.
"When I was away on my mission, I might have not went very high up in status there but, I did hear something about Hisui," He smirked.
"Don't hold it in, spit it out!"
"Where the hell is their boss?" Levy asked Romeo as she looked at Raven Tail's arch.
"Over there?" Romeo guessed as he pointed. Levy looked closer and could slowly make out a shadowy figure. She was surprised that Romeo could see him and that the master was really trying to hide himself.
Levy looked down at the arena and watched Laxus approach the middle. She remembered the shock on her face when his name was called out. Alei was the member he was up against. He was a master of illusion and shikigami magic.
She looked down at Fairy Tail Team B as the match started. Mira was cheering for him with all her heart. Levy smiled to herself. Even though Laxus spent little time at the Fire Palace, he spent most of his time with Mira. Levy didn't know exactly how they met but, she could tell, Mira had a huge crush on him.
She saw Mira's face fall. Levy quickly looked at the arena with wide eyes. It was the first time she saw Laxus on his knees with a bruised faced. Alexei had his foot on his chest and was glaring down at him. At least, Levy thought he was glaring. She couldn't tell from the mask he was wearing.
Alexie was torturing him.
"Why does it feel like I'm losing when I'm winning?" Laxus muttered to himself. He could hear the crowd trying to cheer for him.
Try.
He figured he must have been losing. With all his pride and arrogance, he thought he was fooling himself into believing he was winning. But he was pretty sure he was.
The golden armour was chipped away in huge bits and the clothes underneath was ripped. Laxus smirked at the bruises he could see. Alexei slowly took off his mask.
"Now, now. It's not good to laugh at your dad when they're hurt, let alone when you're the one hurting him,"
Levy watched as Mira covered her eyes and brought herself to look away. Levy closed her eyes as well and looked at Team A. Natsu was fuming red and Gray was trying to cool him down. She understood hat Natsu was feeling. It was his cousin after all.
She quickly looked at Romeo and sighed in relief. Romeo always wanted to be like Natsu, she expected him to be halfway down the stairs by now.
Laxus was bleeding and it was only 10 minutes into the battle. "What is he doing?" Makarov asked. Laxus was also his Grandson. He was both afraid for him and disappointed in him.
She sat down on the nearest bench and took out some paper and a pen.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Laxus sneered.
"What? Prince of the Thunder Palace not happy to see the Long Lost King?" Ivan asked his son. Ivan was meant to be the next in throne when Makarov was when he stepped down. But, he was always the foolish Prince. Now, only Laxus was there as Prince and some small advice from his grandpa. He was only a small Prince with a hate for weaker being.
"No, I'm not. I guess you're the reason why it sounds like I'm losing," Laxus scowled at him.
"Yes, I'm making an illusion to make me win, if you want I can change it," Ivan said.
"What do you want?" Laxus asked. He took one step back and got into a fighting stance. He was ready to pounce with one wrong word.
"For you to step down,"
Levy looked at Raven Tail as she put away her pen and paper. They were somehow fading but regained their colour. They looked like illusions but...
What would be the need for doing that?
"You want me to step down?" When Laxus thought about it, they were both alike. They both wanted more power like it was a normal serving in breakfast. But, one thing that set them apart was Makarov. Laxus still loved his grandpa but Ivan despised his dad.
Laxus could never hate someone that raised him. That's why he'll do as he asked.
To become friends with Natsu Dragneel.
"I'm nothing like you," Laxus chanted outloud as he slowly took steps forwards. The chanting had become louder and louder. He stopped and looked up. Not only was his dad there, but, the whole team. He shrieked out and set lightning out.
"He's winning?" Levy tilted her head. The bruised blonde man suddenly appeared in a separate area as Ivan fell. The other match slowly dissipated. Ivan was knocked cold on the ground and his team members were flat on the ground.
"I knew he could do it!" Makarov let out a grin.
"You knew it was an illusion?" Romeo asked the master and he nodded.
"What kind of grandparent would I be if I couldn't tell my own family apart?"
"They said that Raven Tail is disqualified for two reasons. One, for all members on the field at once, and two, for the master for participating," Laxus said.
"And?" Laxus let out a big grin. Natsu may seem daft at times, well, all the time, but, he could see through anyone.
"We could take all their points of we combine our teams. They need an even number, so, we need to come up with the ultimate team for tomorrow. For today, we get to think," Laxus smirked.
He knew Natsu wanted to be in the ultimate team and Laxus wanted him to be in it. But, he had a bad feeling.
A feeling he won't be able to.
