nine
Waking up to the sound of voices, I shifted out of the tight ball I had curled myself into. Inhaling deeply, the scent of Asra flooded my nose, and I hummed with appreciation. The soft blanket covering me fell as I stretched, and I frowned when my hand hit something solid. Tilting my head, I found the source of my barrier was a sofa arm.
This sofa was surprisingly comfortable. I didn't even remember falling asleep on it.
Settling back into the sofa, I noticed the room had fallen silent. I turned to my left, my eyes widening as the audience staring back at me. There were three large men sat with their backs to me, but they all turned to stare like I was some kind of animal in a zoo. There was Caleb, Everett and even Rio, so something interesting had gone down.
Rio observed me with a kind smile compared to Everett, whose gaze was as hard as ever. The man never changed. Caleb's dark eyes were staring at me with interest, his eyebrows raised as he observed me. I swallowed, looking between them in search of the one who would give me context. Asra was leaning in his office chair, one elbow propped on the arm, its hand running across his jaw. His eyes softened when I finally met his gaze, a small smile gracing his lips.
"Good afternoon." He chuckled.
I propped myself up on my elbows, trying to comb some of the wildness from my hair. They drew the curtains across the window, so I assumed it was nighttime, but I felt confused. The sleep not fully left me.
Clearing my throat, I sat upright. "What... what time is it?"
"A little after ten. I didn't want to disturb you." He shrugged.
"Oh..." I muttered, glancing at his men in charge. "And..."
"We had a meeting."
I gave him a second to continue before my sarcasm kicked in. It tended too when I was tired, my brain unwilling to converse normally. His blank eyes told me he would not indulge me anymore than that.
"Right. I can obviously see that, unless this is a boy scout group. Are we about to go bug hunting?" I drawled. "Sing songs around the fire? I could never join the scouts. It surprised me we even had it in Evermore. I'm glad to see you branching out, though, Asra."
Asra's eyes dropped into a glower, his nose twitching with annoyance. I heard Rio and Caleb stifle chuckles, whereas Everett's shoulders tensed. Was this an emotion? Tensing shoulders?
"Very funny." Asra rolled his eyes.
"Thanks, it just comes naturally. I think the nap really helped." I shrugged.
"Why don't you go back to sleep?" He grunted. "Get better at it."
His annoyance only humoured me more, and I giggled.
"Well, if you just took a moment to tell me something interesting, I wouldn't have to resort to these manners." I sang, standing to stretch out my limbs.
His eyes followed the bareness of my legs and I blushed, remembering that I was only in his boxers and shirt. Clearing my throat, I wrapped the blanket around me like a skirt, thankful the other three males were not interested.
"She has you there." Rio cocked his head, eyes flicking between the two of us. "I feel Luna should know what we are discussing since it is so based around her."
I smiled triumphantly, nodding and waiting for Asra to continue. It didn't even cross my mind that he had called me Luna until my eyes met those midnight blue ones. Was I already the luna? I wasn't a wolf, so did the other wolves still class me as their luna?
"Yes, I suppose the Luna needs to know." Asra cocked his head, amused.
I glared at him, crossing my arms. He knew I was unsure of the title and rubbing it in my face was only his way of trying to get me to give into his game. I have been awake barely ten minutes and already he was annoying me.
I spared a look at the other two, waiting patiently. Now I was standing, I could clearly see the photograph of my sister lying on the desk, and I paused. A lump in my throat had me swallowing, shifting my weight as anxiety set in. It was pretty easy how quickly my body could go from one extreme to the next, and I tugged at my blanket-skirt.
"W-what's happening?" I asked softly.
Asra noticed the shift in the room, his entire posture changing as quickly as mine. He pushed his chair back, his thighs apart as he gestured for me to come toward him. I softly made my way around the desk, breezing past Rio so that I could sit on my mate's thigh. I perched on the edge facing his desk, uncertain how much I should sit on him in front of his three most-important men.
It seemed I wasn't right in my assumption, and his arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me to him. A grunt of surprise left my lips as he pulled me closer until my ass was sitting firmly on his thigh, my legs being pulled to rest over his other. I couldn't help but blush as his large hands wrapped around me, keeping me secure to his body.
So Asra had a small limit in front of his men. I wondered if such intimacy was normal in front of the entire pack. People in Evermore always found anything more than a handhold or soft peck disgusting, so I kept my intimacy toned down.
"We were discussing your sister." Asra started.
"What about her?" I looked at him, our faces inches apart. "Are we going to get her?"
He nodded, and I felt my heart race.
"When?"
"Friday." Caleb answered when Asra hesitated.
I turned to him, swallowing harshly. "So soon?"
It was Tuesday today.
"We want to get her before the full moon." He replied.
"When is that?" I wondered. "And why? I thought you were stronger during a full moon."
"We are." Asra nodded, and I looked back at him. "The full moon is in 5 days. We want to go into Evermore undetected and get her out with ease. We don't want to start a war just yet until we have an entire army."
"An entire army?" My eyes widened. "Are you going to blow the place up?"
His answering chuckle didn't sound so genuine. "I want to get the one person you care about there out before we make plans and intercept."
"What if they know she is gone and know wolves have been near?" I cocked my head.
"We plan to leave some... blood and tissue in the woods. Make it seem like she went for a walk and got attacked." Caleb answered, and I sucked in a sharp breath.
"That could work. She goes for a walk after breakfast to gather firewood." I nodded. "But I thought you said she stopped doing that a few days ago..."
"She did." Asra sighed. "If her home is unoccupied, we shall get her scent and can track it to her location. If we can lure her to a window, hopefully we can get her outside without trouble."
"Lure her?"
His jaw tensed. "With you. We can only hope she doesn't cause a scene."
I grimaced. "Arabella isn't the type. She's quiet even when scared."
I noticed Everett shift in the corner of my vision, a firm nod with agreement. I turned to him with interest, wondering why he was agreeing with me. He had never met her before. I looked over at the other two males with interest. What did they know?
"There are a lot of potential holes in this plan." I muttered, catching Caleb's eye.
His lips quirked into a grin, and he nodded. "There are."
"And you are in charge of this plan?" I raised an eyebrow.
"I am, Luna."
I ignored the way my heart skip a beat. "So don't you think there should be fewer holes?"
"You know your sister and Evermore the best. Do you have any suggestions?"
I hummed, leaning further into Asra. Caleb's eyes followed the movement, his grin only broadening when Asra's arm tightened around my stomach.
"She wakes around eight. She isn't one to get up early." I explained softly before laughing softly. "She would always read until the early hours of the night."
"Sounds like you have fond memories of her. You don't speak of her often." Asra mumbled in my ear.
"We were close growing up. I would help her read." I grinned. "Dad used to tell us off all the time. He'd go to bed in the middle of the night and catch us reading. Arabella would always get away with it because she was barely five. She would flutter her Bambi eyes and he would let her off so easy."
Asra's chuckle vibrated my side. "That's a nice memory."
"Yeah. There were some good ones." I agreed, staring down at the blanket. "I suggest we go in the night. When everyone is asleep, she will be awake. That way, nobody will see you."
"They will shut the curtains." Rio interjected. "How would we lure her out?"
"Oh, she doesn't shut the curtains." I shook my head. "Only the net curtain. She likes to look at the stars or use the moonlight to help her read when Mother would take away the candles."
"Candles?" Rio snorted. "Was it that old?"
I clicked my tongue. "My mother would turn off electric at night. So we couldn't read or put lights on. It saved money."
His humoured expression fell, and I inwardly snickered at the suddenly regretful expression. It was my past that I had grown to accept, but watching the wealthy wolves squirm was fun.
Asra, shifting his weight, had me fall into his lap and my eyes widened at the solid bump of his dick in his pants. I looked at him with raised eyebrows, but his expression was smooth. He smirked at me, his eyes full of mischief as he ground his hips into mine when he moved again.
"So, we go in the night and hope she is awake reading?" Rio repeated, looking between the two of us.
My heart was fluttering, and I shook my head to calm my mind. "Even if she is asleep, her curtain will be open."
Plus, we had a secret knock, but they didn't need to know about that.
"That's done then. Tomorrow night, we will go in the early hours of Friday morning." Caleb nodded.
"How come you want to do it so soon?" I wondered.
There was a brief silence as Asra and Rio shared a look and I felt my alarm bells ring.
"I know how much she means to you." Asra shrugged.
I hummed, crossing my arms. "Sure, that's the reason."
He chuckled, squeezing me tight so that my breath got caught in my lungs. I grunted, smacking his arm to be released, but he didn't budge. I glared at him, curling my fingers to pinch him a warning. He recoiled, releasing me with a laugh.
"You are lucky I want to go to bed and cannot be bothered by the strange looks." I poked his chest. "So, is this boy scout meeting over?"
Asra growled. "Yes, we will re-discuss tomorrow."
The three stood up, muttering their agreement. I watched them filter out of the room, saying a thankful goodnight as they bowed their head. As soon as the door shut, I snapped my gaze to Asra, crossing my arms.
He smiled. "Yes, Tulip?"
"Rubbing me along your dick?" I rose an eyebrow. "In front of them?"
"I can't help the way I react when you take charge of my men."
I stumbled over the scoff that left my lips, a bark of laughter escaping instead. "That makes me sound so..."
Asra laughed, my body shaking with his every breath. "Not like that, Tulip. You took control of the conversation, and it only made me want to stake my claim again."
I flushed, unable to stop the laugh. "I am not a piece of meat."
"But you are delicious." He grinned.
I groaned. "Ugh, Asra."
"That's my name, baby." He growled lowly.
Goosebumps rose on my flesh, and I pressed my palms to my eyes to calm down. I was tired. This was not the time for my body to be reacting to some damn words coming out of his mouth. No matter how sexy it sounded with the growl, or how heated they made me feel down below...
This bond was mad. It was like I couldn't get enough of him.
Asra inhaled deeply, running his nose along my arm until I dropped my hands. He kissed me softly, lasting only a few seconds before pulling away.
"I would take you in front of the entire pack if I could."
"That will not happen."
"Then I shall fuck you in the dining hall right now, so when everyone goes in for breakfast, they will know you are mine."
"I think they know that already." I patted his chest sarcastically. "And I would rather keep my bedroom smells private."
He shrugged. "It still lingers in here and inside of you."
My eyes widened, a soft groan escaping me. "So this whole time... They knew what we did?"
"Yes."
"All of them?"
"Yes."
"Do you care?"
He frowned, cocking his head. "Sex with your mate is normal, Tulip. It makes me proud to have your scent of arousal all over me. One day, I hope it will make you proud too."
I flushed, dropping my eyes from the intense honesty in his. "Sorry, I didn't realise you were being serious."
"It is okay." He squeezed me again. "You are just a human. There are still so many things to learn."
I agreed, resting my head on his shoulder. "And you are just a wolf who needs to learn what a normal bedtime is."
Asra laughed, lifting his wrist to check his watch. "Very well, little mate. Let's go take this to the bedroom."
He scooped me up in an instant, so we were chest to chest. It forced my ankles to lock behind his back. I groaned as he carried me out of the door and flicked the light off with one hand. Trying to ignore how hot it was that he could hold me to him with one hand, I pressed my face into his neck.
"I mean for sleep."
"Yeah, me too." He agreed, shutting the door behind us.
I laughed softly, shaking my head until I could land a nibble to his throat. He tensed, growling at me, and I replaced my teeth with my lips. His fingers flexed on my skin as he exhaled shakily, carrying me up the stairs.
That would teach him what teasing could do.
