Maya stared at me as I've grown an extra head, with her eyes wide and her jaw set in O shape, the pen on her hand dropped on the table with a small click which dragged her out of her reverie.
I dreaded her next words, I intently looked at her facial features to twist and double over in laughter, instead, she shook her head and asked "are you taking drugs?" Here we go!
"No Maya, I'm not taking any drugs," I answered with a sigh, I knew that I'm going to regret this and I'm right.
"Are you an alcoholic? Heavy drunk?" She asked while taking a notebook from her drawer and writing something on the paper, most likely writing my whereabouts to turn me to an asylum.
I blinked hard, ostensibly, I bought this on me, yikes!
"I don't drink, look, doctor, I know it's not every day you meet someone who can see the future of other people but yes, whatever I said is true," I laid it out.
She struggled to maintain a straight face, holding back all the replies she removed her spectacle and said, "what do you see in my eyes?"
"I'm not lying Dr. Maya, everything I said is true," I pressed with a blank face.
"Okay, then look into my eyes Aini, tell me what the future holds for me," she featured with a small mocking smile creeping on the edges.
With a swift drag of the chair, I stood up and said in a bored tone, "bye doctor," and started towards the door when a nurse entered the room with a tray of medicines and medical instruments.
When I was supposed to pass through the threshold, the unknown nurse grabbed hold of my shoulders, effectively making me look into her eyes.
I was pulled inside, the happy scene unraveled from her eyes, carving a small smile in my depressed heart and she fell to the floor, with the tray flying in the air, pulling me back to reality.
Dr. Maya rushed to the nurse and tried to carry her, screaming someone for help, I nodded at her and took hold of the nurse's left shoulder while she lifted the unconscious nurse from the right shoulder.
She placed her on the chair and grabbed the water bottle, I didn't know what I was supposed to do but smile at the scene.
Dr. Maya stared at my non-helping happy smile and giddy gestures and uttered in disgust, her face scrunching up at the corners, "you need immediate physiological assistance."
I couldn't reveal to her what I saw, but the doctor assumed the worst of me so I grabbed hold of the notebook she was previously scribbling and wrote what I saw while she glared at me, tore the paper, and handed it to her. She slapped the paper on the table, dismissing it altogether.
Her attention turned towards the unconscious nurse, she tapped on her cheek and sprinkled a few drops of water on her face. The nurse stirred and slowly opened her eyes.
Maya checked for her pulse and relaxed, with a smile on her face she announced to the nurse, "congratulations Lara, you are pregnant."
The nurse's eyes went wide in happiness, a face-splitting smile carved its way through and she thanked Maya, after a few exchanges of what she had to do, she said that she needs to inform her husband and hurried out of the room.
Maya turned towards me, I mouthed at her the letter! And pointed at it with the finger.
With a threatening glare, she took the paper and read it aloud in astonishment, "she is pregnant."
Blood drained from her face, with confusion she glanced at me, her eyes shone with curiosity as if I'm her next scientific experiment.
"How did you know?" She asked slowly, her voice a bare whisper.
"I saw it in her eyes," I stated with confidence, the doctor knew what I could do, a small part of my brain said that I'm doing the right thing.
"You couldn't see anything from my eyes," she asked in doubt, still not accepting the truth.
I couldn't blame her, so I confessed "I can only see the future of a person at the extreme happiness or ultimate doom."
She moved towards her chair, from the movements of her head, I could tell she was trying to comprehend the situation, "sit please," she said and pointed to the opposite chair.
"Why didn't you tell me beforehand?" She continued her interrogation.
"If I tell them, it won't happen," I stated as if it's obvious.
"Can you please elaborate?" She asked, relaxing a little into the conversation, her doctor's instinct kicking in.
"Is this confidential?" I asked instead, I don't know her.
"Yes, this is confidential, we can arrange the documents and I will sign them if it assures you of me," she replied calmly.
It was just a day since I met her but this doctor knew more about me already and part of me said that I trust her so I nodded my head and narrated.
"I was met with a small breakdown at the age of sixteen when my puppy Tony died, it was hard for my teenage self and I fell sick, resulting in me staying in the hospital unconscious for a day.
When I came back home, that's when all of this started, I came across an old lady in the street, drinking water from the plastic bottle, her lid fell on the ground and I helped her to retrieve it.
That's when it happened for the first time when I returned her the lid, I- I was drawn inside her eyes, trapped in a trance that I couldn't blink it away, I saw the old lady sitting on a rocking chair, dead!
That scared me, it was living hell, I muttered a sorry and ran home like a crazy woman, the next day I found an article in the newspaper with the same lady's picture, it read she was found dead at her house while reading a book while sitting on her rocking chair.
Apparently, this woman was the mother of a famous businessman so the news spread for a few days.
I was traumatized at the news, I refused to come out of the room for a few days, I skipped school until one day when one of my friend's sisters Noel visited, I foresaw her marriage and she was married in less than three months.
It started getting better, occasionally I experienced a vision, sometimes good and sometimes bad, until one day I happen to reveal to a sales lady about her future, I said that she was about to experience wealth from a lottery.
That's when I knew that, if I tell them about it, it won't come to fruition, the sales lady ended up jobless. I tried to fix her situation by sending her a lot of vacancy offers from the companies I know." I looked at the doctor, she was listening to every word as intensely as she can, trying to write the information now and then.
When I stopped talking she looked up from her notebook and gestured for me to continue. I offered her a small smile and continued...
